[Q] Samsung Gear with LG G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a LG G2 with AT&T that I love. I also have the Sony Smartwatch 2 which is good but doesnt really compare against the Samsung Gear (for my needs).
I would love to keep the LG G2 (I switched from a S4 and compared to the LG G2, the screen on the LG G2 is much better, my opinion)
I did a search and noticed that this question was asked before but it has been a while.
I know the Gear has been working almost flawlessly with the HTC One. I am wondering if anyone has tried it with the LG G2 lately with any luck?
The last thing I want to do is switch back to the S4 just for the Gear.
Thanks

I just want Google to come out with a Nexus watch so it can work with any Android smartphone. I don't know if Samsung in the 2nd generation of the Galaxy Gear will open it up to all Android devices or keep it to themselves to make it exclusive so that you have to buy a Samsung smartphone.

They'll keep it exclusive, because that is what apple would do.

I concur. Why limit your potential clients. It's not like there is anything advanced going on there. I'm sure the software and programming is hacked to hell first, to make it work, and second, to keep it exclusive though. Might make it very difficult to make it universally open. We'll have to see what happens, though I won't be picking it up. I hate Samsung hardware.
I'm sure LG will jump on the boat. Apple, Samsung, Sony, and Motorola all have watches in the pipe or being released soon, so it's just a matter of time.

I have the Sony SW2 and paired with my LG G2. The watch is... well.. Ok. I really hope LG release something with their Flex screen technology and one that is more functional than the SW2. :good:

Funny you mention the flex screen. This is why I have almost no doubt a watch will be released. Rather than have a slab for a screen, they can create a watch that curves with the wrist. In addition, the ultra low power requirements of OLED screens will lead to outstanding battery life.

I would definately prefer a Nexus watch or LG watch (assuming they are better than the Gear). I have the Sony SmartWatch 2, and its very very weak comparing to the Gear.
It may not be that easy making a smartwatch. Look at Sony, they are a Monster company that has been making some pretty smart watches for at least 50 years. I would have thought they would have the best smartwatch. But its Samsung who currently hold the crown.
Back to the topic, Anyone tried getting the Gear to work with the LG G2. We seriously dont get that much support here for the G2 vs HTC One and S4 etc.

With a tear in my eye I announce that I went out and bought a Samsung Gear and Samsung S4. I have retired my G2 and will sell it on craigslist (along with the Sony SmartWatch 2). Going from S4 to G2 to S4 really makes you appreciate the G2. Hopefully someone figures out a way to get the Gear to work with the G2 in the next month or so. Oh G2... you will be missed.

g2 or g2x?

title says it all, but just to expand...
my contract just passed the 22 month mark, but im wondering if it would be a smarter idea to get the g2 and see what happens after the potential merger and what promotional deals i could get (if any). or i could be safe and get a g2x and be able to use both frequency bands of att and tmobile. I do realize that the g2x has a dual core, hdmi output, etc, but honestly specs dont matter that much to me; im perfectly content with the g2's good speed. theres also the fact that the g2 has a keyboard, while obviously the g2x does not. i currently have a g1, and i find it hard to switch to virtual keyboards. So guys, input?
reposted from q&a, idk how to delete a thread.
well, i personally love hard keyboards but after getting use to swype, i can honestly say I can do without a hard keyboard. I'd prefer the g2x simply because it will set you up for the future. I'm waiting for my upgrade and switching to the g2x. I love the g2 and all but soon enough, apps and all will be updated to support multi cores. Plus i think the g2x's screen is better, looks better i mean. Up to you
At this point, the G2 shouldn't even be on your short list of phones to consider. It's old technology. Phones like the G2X and other upcoming dual core superphones like the Galaxy S II (or Galaxy S Pro if you want a keyboard) should be the ones you're looking at.
I see no value in buying a phone that came out in October last year at this point. Don't get me wrong the G2 is an awesome phone and I really like it, but there's no reason to buy this old of a phone with all these great ones coming out.
You just have to ask yourself, could you really see the G2 being relevant this time next year? I think a phone that comes out this month has a much better chance at that.
So little love for the G2 already? I'm shocked.
I have had mine for 5 months or so now but I honestly think If I was to upgrade from my old handset RIGHT NOW, I would either get the still G2 or wait for something else to drop from HTC with a hardware keyboard.
My last handset was a Hero and for the entire 8-10 months I had that I always regretted not getting a G1 ... (a) for the kb.... (b) for the dev support!!!!! There was always more going on with the G1 than the Hero.
I think I'll be content with my G2 for another 12months yet.
My wife just got a phone last week. We went into the tmobile store and personally i dont see anything better then a g2. g2x doesnt even count imo... it isnt in the G family on so many levels.
G2 is working great for me so she wanted a g2 also. Shes very happy with it, but then again she came from a motorola cliq lol.
You posted the same question in the Q & A subforum.
Cross posting the same question to multiple subforums is against forum rules, and unnecessary.
I have a G2 since December and my girl just got a G2 now. The reason she wanted a G2 was because she was switching to t-mobile and wanted a phone with a keyboard. We decided that the G2 was good enough for her as it was quick for what she does and has swype as well.
She got the G2 for free with no dataplan required so it was a good deal.
Sure a dual core phone would have been nice, but it would be overkill for her. Front facing camera is a nice feature, but she won't be using it much, or even at all. She didn't want to drop $200 for the latest phone and pay $30 dataplan for the next 2 years.
She just love to text, email and go on facebook. She came from an iphone 3G so it was a big upgrade imo.

He using a G1 currently... do you honestly think the G2 is outdated compared to his current phone? It will a GIANT improvement over a G1 and you get to keep the qwerty kb. Trust me, I even fired it up the other day and it was unbearable.... The G2X has nice guts but looks like a plastic pos from LG (typical) and the extra frequency won't freaking matter for 3 years+ The stupid merger will be blocked for a year and a half (at least) and another year and a half before your 3G towers are gone (you still have 2G after that). By that time, 3D phones will be becoming mainstream (or at least more popular) and dual processors will be improved while quads are arriving on tables. The G2 is a good choice for a couple of years. Hell, you can overclock to almost 2GHz! That's plenty fast for now and the near future. The only issue I see is RAM is low compared to newer high end models but the cpu makes up for it with a little OCing...

Consider that this gentleman is still on a g1 which at this stage is genuinely outdated some two years after release. I think if he moved to the direct successor to this venerable handset he would be quite pleased. The brief overlay between release and the present day has merely allowed the dev community time to support the device. Instead, if he did what you suggest and get a g2x (which lacks a hard keyboard, something he seems fond of) he would have to wait some months for it to be cracked and the dev community to support it.
Not to mention that dual core phones are still relatively new tech. Even if the hardware is screaming fast, every dual core phone released so far has some sort of software issue and do you really genuinely believe that the carrier or vendor will be quick to patch these issues? Consider the Engadget review of the LG Optimus2x
Where we were left disappointed, however, was in the company's software execution. Neat little tweaks to Android's default interface failed to obscure the fact that the Optimus 2X is neither as responsive nor as stable as it should be. You might be able to rectify those flaws by installing one of the inevitable avalanche of custom ROMs that this device will benefit from, but we're here to review LG's own performance and we find the failure to deliver a reliable platform inexcusable.

Though speculating on the end product that HTC will produce is nothing more than conjecture at this stage, these types of commentary lead me to believe that despite the frankly staggeringly good physical hardware, albeit lacking the desired keyboard, the current iteration of dual core smartphones aren't really ready for the consumer market. Their battery life is acceptable, but that goes away when you really are trying to utilize the benefits of having a dual core setup in terms of snappy multitasking.
Get the G2 man. You'll be holding onto it for a while and whatever crop of phones ATT comes out with assuming this merger goes through will probably not live up to the high quality you'll find in the G2. Even now the Dev community is still supporting the G1 so as to if the G2 is going to be "relevant" in a year, that is a silly question. What about all those people who wish to stay off contract yet desire a decent handset at a cheaper price since it is a used model? Dismissing a handset offhand as being "old" and "outdated" despite obvious evidence against this assertion is both shortsighted and closed minded.

the g2x hasnt even come out yet, that was the optimus 2x, which had its own lg skin over it.
this phone, with the g in the g2x, is mostly stock android with a bit of bloatware put in. you cant say it has a small mod community when it hasnt even come out yet.
Here's really what it boils down to: do you need a physical keyboard or not? A physical keyboard is an absolute must for me, and regardless of the hardware specs I need that keyboard. Right now there just aren't a ton of options on the market, for whatever reason, for a great phone with a physical keyboard, but the G2 is a fantastic one, and easily the best on the market next to the Sprint/HTC Evo Shift (since it's the same internals as the G2 anyway). Remember, even flagships like the Xperia Play have nearly the same exact hardware as the G2, so it's not like it's a crappy phone or something, just not cutting edge any more.

Hardware wise its the same phone and will be the same subforum .just like the g2 AND desire Z , HTC leo AND the HD2.
Sure the specs on the G2x is amazing, but i would perfer my G2 over the G2x anyday. What I love about my G2 is that it has a beautiful qwerty keyboard & personailly the g2x looks like plastic. The G2 looks like a ****ing Rock. So which one do you rather have a big peice of crappy Plastic or a nice tough looking Rock.
Like others have said here is my list of importance.
1. physical keyboard (i must have it, i cannot do without it)
2. android os (duh...)
3. spec (finally my 3rd i would finally have to start looking at speed and memory)
Maybe the keyboard isnt important to you, if that is so then you have a much larger selection.
G2!
G2 all the way!
Once you've gone hardware keyboard you cant go back. The keyboard is really a big draw the phone has. There aren't really any negative traits about the G2, besides that it's just slightly older. The 800 mhz processor isn't a negative trait about the phone. HTC makes much higher quality phones that LG (in my opinion). And there is not really anything that the G2x has that the G2 doesn't, aside from being game-focused (or at least the T-Mobile website makes it sound game-focused.
My vote is for the G2 for sure.

I came from the cliq... I feel her pain. Dont get me wrong, that phone was like a better iPhone sacrificing the High-End games. But man if its 1 thing I learned from that lesson. Its patients, timing and the right manufacture.
The G2 has a few things no other phone tmobile to date has to offer. Total Openess. Means long community support. G1 still fully supported cause its pure google. Only other phone is the Nexus S which lacks Keyboard, no SDCard, and is Samsung.
Not a single Dual-Core phone is pure Google yet or even a popular HTC for that matter (Like the EVO). Now the Evo 3D would be a good by because itll be way ahead of every1 else, be purchased by many, and its HTC. Most importantly translate to a large Community Base/Support.

[Q] Aren't you a bit skeptical about buying this phone since it's made by LG?

I've never used an LG phone before. I've always had a Samsung. And it hasn't exactly disappointed me so far.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone "recommend" any LG phone. I'm only buying this one because of it's uber specs and it's ultra low price (I can't afford a phone of this stature otherwise). Also maybe because I need a new phone. I'm currently using the Galaxy 3 (not s3).
If I buy this phone I'm going to have to get it from the US through a relative or a friend. Which basically means no warranty. And it's LG. And its battery is non removable.
What are your views on this?
Also, can someone convince me to buy this phone?
LG makes great hardware, but ruins it with their software support. Moot point here, as Google brings the updates. It's a win-win
This phone looks to have a solid build. Reminds me of the Blackberry 9900 Bold Touch, pure metal black finish.
Sounds like you don't have any experience with LG handsets. They make good hardware according to most reviews I've seen.
Just because you've never heard anything about LG handsets doesn't mean they are crap. You should go to the store and check some out for yourself.

In China, LG is fine.
I can't believe you liked Samsung's quality. From their crappy phone days they've never made a solid looking phone. The only thing that prevented me from getting a Nexus earlier is that they were made by Samsung. I'll throw in my money and gamble with it.

Bugs will not be LG's fault
I'd only be worried about it if it weren't a nexus device. Every LG phone that's had problems has always been OS related from what I've seen and heard.
to be honest I am never going to buy samsung cause of ther crappy build body. I used note, S3, S2 and all of them had a crappy plastic body. Samsung doing it wrong look it your S2, S3 or Notes especially the body part, I am happy that google pick LG but I most expected Motorola

Bugs is the wrong word, I mean hardware faults, bad batches etc.
All devices will have some of those as well. Lg hw does not have a bad rep but every mass produced device has issues. The 7 had more than I can remember for a device in recent memory though.
The glass on the back will most likely by the thing everyone will complain about. Because it will break.
For example I think it was either Anand or Brian's iPhone 5 that actually had the screen separated from the device. He pushed it back in and it clipped in place. Later it came off again.
I have a reason to be skeptical about another lg phone. As a previous owner of an lg g2x, I was not happy with it. And yes the lg g2x was a Google phone with pure android and it sucked, lg support for it was horrible.

LG = Decent hardware, wank software support.
Since Google are dealing with the software, this should be pretty good.
in my country, this phone will have 0 resale price.. why?
coz its from lg..
and arabs are dumb enough to pay 1300$ for an iphone 5 they dun even know how to use..
on the bright side, my first lg jus got sold for this phone.. software sucked with locked bootloader..
but build quality was AMAZING
even better than my evo3d
LG makes good quality hardware, but the software isnt great and the ui lg uses is like using touchwiz 3.
But as software is handled by google, im willing to buy this one!

Have you owned an LG phone before?

I own an S3 (Galaxy Nexus before the S3) and can't decide if I want this Nexus 4 or not. I have been reading a lot of complaints about LG phones, specifically shoddy hardware. So I'm curious if anyone in here buying the N4 have actually owned an LG phone before. I've been an Apple/Samsung guy for the last 4 years so making the switch is a little unsettling after reading some feedback on LG on XDA. It's a Google OS as vanilla as it gets, and that is a good thing. However after your return policy is up it will be LG supporting this device and backing the hardware, that's what concerns me.
Never owned an LG before ( except a fridge maybe?) but it's a nexus. Sometimes I even forget that it's made by LG.
Yeah it's a Nexus, but it's not made or supported by Google. That's my concern. The Nexus 7 is a Nexus and that has to be one of the most shoddily made devices I've ever owned. I went through 5 before I could actually use one without the screen lifting up.
No, and if this wasn't a Nexus, I would never buy it (someone said Optimus G?).
Because this is an LG, Google checks the device a million times and warranty is buy Google.
So I guess the only thing we need to worry about is how good does LG check devices coming from the factory. (just want to say I think HTC don't do it well.. they should sell their devices will a soldering kit to fix wifi / gps
Anyway, I own an LG Smart TV, and its awesome! No problems at all!
Used to have an Optimus 2x i changed out with a Galaxy Nexus after a year or so, it wasn't bad but the software support was awful, heck they haven't even done ICS for it yet, but it was atleast better than the Nexus which i got scratches on after a few months.
Sold that and changed to the SGS3 which i would've kept if it hadn't pinktinted my display, now i'm gonna get it repaired under warranty and sell that if there is nothing to the claimed issues with the Nexus 4 performance/heat conductivity.

Google does not warranty this device and where is your evidence that Google checks the device a million times. As it is Google has sent out review samples that are getting results all over the place. That doesn't instill a lot of confidence in Googles checks.
I'm not trying to crap on LG here, but I also don't want to blindly buy a device I know nothing about just because it's a Nexus. Like I said, the Nexus 7 is a Nexus and that has horrible build quality and quality control issues. When you have problems with a Nexus 7 after your Google Play return policy you are dealing with Asus, not Google for warranty issues.
I've had a G2x for a year and a half, and and although the software on it was horrible, the build quality was excellent. Their devices don't feel cheap at all.

i had the Optimus 4X, and it is yet to be opened by LG. it has alot of security checks to make sure no one tries to abuse their licenced hardware functions.
they have the bootloader locked on the Tegra3 platform like Asus do on Prime, and no unlocking available.
If they follow their current strategy around sourcecode and proprietary code with security checks around the binaries being in place, i would stay far, far, far away from this device by LG.
It will never get any good support primarily because LG is behind it, so no Gold'LOL'Star from me for this release. It will probably fail long before it ever becomes a success.
exception is if Google agreed to keep this partnership with open sources, it might be totally differenty and LG is not using any special hardware which is closedsource NDA based. so probably based on buying a techkit from an electronics store where no licence is to be paid.

Evidences? No problem. Google checked the Galaxy Nexus and found out a serious bug at the emmc (or something like that). Then Samsung used it in the Galaxy Note (first one) and they got bricks...
And about warranty, at an Israeli forum we contact Google to ask them about warranty, and they said they are responsible for it..

I owned a LG Optimus One (p500) . Pretty good device. Now my mom uses it with CM9 without any problem
Owned a G2x and it was freaking terrible. I read all of the forums where people complained about random reboots and overheating and ignored them all. About a week or 2 after I purchased it I started getting reboots and my phone would get hot too. Don't just take my word for it. Remember LG just let the phone die and never really tool responsibility for it. They wrote the G2x off.
I'm not one of those uber-geeks who demands 0 light bleed or care if I can root it right away but after my G2x experience I vowed to never buy another LG phone again. But here I am. I too am torn between my horrible experience with LG vs. my love of Nexus phones. I think in this case, I'll wait a few weeks to see how the forums sound with first adapters and go from there.
My last five phones have all been LG. I had two dumb phones; the same dumb phone, actually. I used to be really horrible with cell phones (my record is eleven phones in one year) so after that particular phone had enough abuse, I bought it again since I liked it so much.
My first smartphone was the Optimus M from Metro, followed by the Optimus V on Virgin Mobile. When I joined my mom's family plan on T-Mobile, I stuck to what I know and got the G2x (Optimus 2X).
The hardware is nice. It's solid built phone with great specs. It's actual performance, though, was lack luster. I expected a lot more from that phone and I had issues with it that I didn't have on the two low end Optimus devices I owned prior. However, rooting the phone made a HUGE difference in performance and made my phone so much better. Also, I"m sure different users have difference experiences with that phone. My mom has the same phone, but has never had a single complaint about it like I have.
I was in the whole "LG never again camp, but it was confirmed LG was making the Nexus and it was being sold for the price it's being sold for. I'm hoping that, being a Nexus, I won't experience the same problems that I did with my G2x. Despite my history with the G2x, I am more than likely DEFINITELY going to buy the Nexus 4. I will, however, wait for the early adopters to get theirs so we can have some real reviews by real people before I spend money on it, but I'm pretty sure I will own it by December.
My original plan was just to get the Galaxy Nexus to hold me over until my contract was up in July, then either check out the latest and greatest from Android or switch to Windows Phone. Since the Nexus 4 is being sold for the same price as the Galaxy Nexus, though, I'm just going to buy that, then move myself to a contract free plan in July.
So, yeah... this is going to be my sixth LG phone in a row. I've only had ONE bad experience with them and Nvidia can actually take part of the blame for that so it isn't all LG. Still, with the right ROM (currently running CM10 Paranoid Android), I do enjoy my G2x. I'm almost confident that Nexus 4 will by fine out of the box and it will definitely be a noticeable upgrade for me.

[Q]about the LG

Lots of my friends told me LG phones is in poor quality with a short life.
Anyone bought it before?
Any advice?
Cause I'm considering buying one as it looks lovely.
is this a good device?
compared to my S2?
My previous device was LG GT540. Served me for two and half years and works for now, I just changed its capacitive digitizer some day and thats all. They make not so good quality phones, but they worth more than you pay for them.

It's all about what you want to pay for. LG phones are relatively cheap for the functionality they offer, but the build quality might be lacking somewhat.
For the prices at which LG currently offers their Optimus L series, it's certainly good value for money.
If you want more features, such as higher screen resolutions or a faster processor, you might be better of with a different phone, either by LG or a different manufacturer.
A general rule of thumb is: when something is cheap, it usually feels cheap. Having said that, it doesn't always mean it's bad quality.
Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S2, the LG Optimus L series is built a little less well, but it does offer some functionality the S2 doesn't have, like NFC. I'd advise you to take a look at what you expect of a phone, then determine a budget and after that, search for the phone that fits your specifications and budget best.
God Bless LG
got a hardbrick for three times in 4 months...
and they save my L3 with machine changing...
still have guarantee? they wouldn't ask you any cost even for 1¢...
God Bless LG

Upgrading to LG V10

I Didn't know where to put this thread so I am simply putting it here in general tab.
Do you guys think upgrading to LG v10 is a good idea?
thing sounds really cool except the processor (snappy 808) which is kinda making me think that its just not the time. Especially now that I know exynos chips are providing way better performance but I really like the features and all. Always have been a power user but ended up buying crappy devices. Every device had its down point somehow. Lg g3 has 2k too much for processor scenes and like that.
I don't want Knox so I don't wanna go down Samsung road if there is no development. After all XDA is what keeps devices newer even after 4 years :')
How many of you think/are considering that upgrading is a good idea?
They should wait with "Premium" device for new Snapdragons. Or atleast use 810 v2.0
That's why im waiting for 2016 flagships
Imagine how good the G5 will be, that's my next phone
The best time to upgrade to a newer device is at the beginning of a year. If you're thinking about buying a new device now, manufacturers are going to release their premium flagship devices in about 4 months.
This means that you'll be happy with a new phone now, but you'll want to swap it in 4 months. If you wait, you'll at least get a whole year on a really nice premium device, or if you're like me, 2 years so the upgrade actually feels like a big leap forward
Geme geme
Just Pre-Ordered the V10, Got the G3 on DAY 1 as well, so this will be a Leap Forward me...LOL

Knox is already in Lollipop..at least parts of it. Knox doesn't stop root or development. Locked bootloaders and DM-verity are what is killing Samsung Development. When the 2 biggest carriers in the US lock down their devices so as to make permanent root as of yet impossible, developers will leave for something else. Marshmallow will be even tougher. If you want a future proof device then you should look at Nexus devices. Otherwise wait and see how root and development turn out for the G5.
My lg g3 sucks at lollipop due to minor transition lags in notif tray and stuff, which i dont like. I will leave Lg asap
I am confuse about V10 position.
It is not a PRO like G PRO 2.
It is not a LG G5.
I will wait for LG G5.
I am waiting for lg v10.. This phone is the best phone till now
Exactly , it's a good idea ....indeed
It's upgrate the camera , memory, processor and the screen ...

I would like to check this one out but I have to wait on my company to test and approve the phone before I can request it (corporations...). My G3 is more stable, fast, and usable than ever on XenonHD 5.1.1...
Pisses me off royally that sprint isn't getting the V10, I want it bad!

Probably wait for the v20 and see what that looks like. G3 is still getting the job done for me.

After i bought my G3 i tested stock rom for about 10 Minutes and in the next 10 Minutes i saw CM booting it up - in my opinion so much better then stock isn´t comparable
But it´s your decision
Skipping this generation. Next year will upgrade

I was thinking seriously about getting the V10, and even went to the AT&T store to check one out. But considering the $700.00 price tag to buy one outright, I think I'll get the 32GB Moto X Pure Edition instead.
