Well my Slide crapped out on me for the second time, and since I pay the $5/month protection I called t-mobile to get my free one. Catching me completely offguard, the representative said t-mobile was having a limited time offer and I could upgrade to a mytouch 4g for free, or get a refurbished slide if i wanted. Well of course I took him up for the free 4g phone. Why would t-mobile ever do this if they still have refurbished Slides? I'll take it though
Seriously? What tips/talking points did you use, that might help the rest of us get a similar result?

Similar story here except I don't pay for the extra t-mobile protection. My slide has a hardware issue so the store offered me a refurbished slide or I could pay for a MyTouch 4g for 250$. I denied and told them to just send me a refurbished slide. 5 mins into the call and the T-mobile lady helping me out tells me that they are just going to send me a refurbished 4g. I told her that is great and I hope shes not pulling my leg! She look shocked and said "nope!". I called T-mobile the next day to confirm and sure enough a 4g is on its way to me.
Well I am in a chat right now, will see if I can make that happen. My wife has a Slide and would LOVE a MT4G.
EDIT: Ok I need some help. Do I only mention warranty covered issues? Or do I say the screen got cracked or something? What did you guys do. The guy in the chat gave me Asurion's contact info and sent me packing.

Hey just received my 4g today. Basically I went to a tmobile store and showed them my phone ( front buttons unresponsive). Once the tmobile clerk called customer care to send a refurbished 3g, they informed her that I could just get a refurbished 4g. I agreed and the deal was done.
I don't think a cracked screen counts to be replaced though...since that isnt hardware failure.
However, you can let customer care guy know that your friends were offered a free upgrade to refurbished 3g's ( if it is hardware related ) Good luck!

People had mentioned having the $5 insurance thing, so I assumed since they mentioned that they were invoking an insurance replacement, not a warranty replacement.
Maybe I will try again. My wife's phone actually isn't cracked or anything, but it does have a few actual issues that I think would/should be covered under warranty.
If I try again, I will let everyone know the results. I of course never mentioned anything about anyone else getting the deal. I'm hoping it's an issue they are already aware of internally, maybe they are out of refurb Slides...

Well that was less fruitful than I would have liked... I went through the whole process of troubleshooting and the rep indicated that she would have a replacement sent to me and said it would be a Mytouch Slide... GRRRR
Oh well, such is life.
My GF brought up something I thought I should mention. It's possible that it's region specific. Just an idea
I've been haggling them for a 4G on the basis of the lack of updates for the Slide. A rep told me last night that she didn't know if an update for the Slide would ever be released. They offered me a loyalty upgrade (not free, but not full price) everytime I called. With all of this urgency to offer the 4G to Slide customers, I think the Slide has officially been kicked to the curb by T-Mobile.

Yeah, they send me the 4g and I just put the Slide it the same box and send it back, pretty painless. I'm not sure how the offer worked, I didn't haggle or whine or anything, as soon as I told him my phone wasn't working he instantly offered me the 4g. He also made it seem like it was an offer for everyone that had been going on for a little while. I'm guessing they go through quite a few refurbs since the phone is so crappy, maybe they're running low and the new stock isn't coming in for a while? They might not even make new Slides anymore.
I think its only for the black? Is that so?

My slide was black and the 4g I received was black as well. They did mention that since my phone was black and I had to be given a black 4g.

Damn, my H key has been unresponsive every once in a while and I haven't felt like going through the return process. So after reading this I called them almost immediately.
No luck They are sending me a refurb slide. I even asked if there was any 4g upgrade offers going on and he said none that he knew of.
OP, is this the first time you returned your slide? I've had mine since launch week and this is my first time getting a replacement.

My friend has tmobile and he got two mytouch 4gs. He's in the 14day period to cancel so hes going to cancel and go to sprint. I have a my touch 4g as well. However it is a little dinged up and I was wondering if I switch one of his new phones out for mine if they will say anything when he returns it? What do u all think?

You're probably good to go, I don't think they would notice. If they do say something about the imei being different just tell em you had two and must've sent in the wrong one. And don't pay any attention to the people claiming it as dishonest, I see no problem whatsoever

That's pretty abusive. Anyway it probably won't work because they'll notice the serial won't match. Never seen a return like that work without atleast swapping casings or serial/imei labels.

I'm almost certain it will not work. I'm a dealer and I can tell you that we make sure all numbers on receipt, phone and original packaging match before we process the return. The phone also has to be in the same condition that you bought it in.

Wont work, when they receive it and the imei does not match they will treat it as the device not being returned at all...and your friend will get a restocking fee of about 400.00

I know this is outdated and all but is Sprint still going to be doing this for the rest of 2011. If so I am going to upgrade my phone TODAY to a Photon, my epic took a tumble and the loud speaker is broken and I dont know if sprint would fix it!

If it's just the speaker is blown and no other physical damage inside, a repair location can fix it. It takes like 15 minutes to do.
This is no longer being done. It ended in July and out of the box upgrade resets are done for as well. Resets are non existent right now unless it's a valid reason such as Sprint error or 30 day returns.

It just really sucks when I switched to Sprint in November and the yearly upgrade factored in my decision. Sprint should at least honor 1 upgrade. After that I could live with losing it. Oh well. I would be happy if Sprint would just replace my phone with screen separation.

So, after over a year without any major issues with my phone and no replacements, my Epic is ready to be replaced. My charger port is no longer charging correctly. Sprint said that Epics are on backorder and it may take a week and have offered me an Evo, Evo Shift, or Nexus as a replacement. I actually LOVE my Epic thanks to all of the developers on here and custom roms available. What would you do?
get the nexus or wait a week?
I highly recommend the Nexus S if you enjoy having the latest&greatest roms, and active community.
However, if you are attached to the Epic, then wait a week. This phone still has a lot to offer once it get's Gingerbread, and though that seems like a long time from now, I'm sure your patience would be rewarded one way or another.
Getting the Evo or Evo Shift is pointless due to its lack of Odin or ADB. In my opinion, rooting and flashing roms on an HTC device is risky.
So those are my two options for ya. I recommend the Nexus, but I hope the Epic still persuades you to stay with the community. It would be unfortunate for another member to go, however do not feel like that should hold you back.
Nexus. I love my Epic but I could live without the keyboard if it means faster updates

So, I decided to get an Epic replacement and already told them to place the order in. I really do love this phone and the community around it. I considered the Nexus seriously, but decided I wasn't willing to give up on this phone yet. It's been the best smartphone I've had yet.
I would seriously like to see a non-FC GB release though lol, EH17 and below have driven me crazy! I hope Samsung and Sprint don't leave us behind with the Touch out.

Wait is this through the replacement program? If not is it exchanged for free? I have the same issue with my charger port.
i had this same issue and when i went to take it into the sprint repair center they didnt even look at it and told me that i had to file a claim for the insurance. 2 weeks a 2 damaged replacement phones later im still stuck with a phone that i cannot charge or flash. Asurion sucks make sure they send you a new one and dont take no for an answer!!!
I have the insurance and yes, it's free. They are on backorder though, so I have to wait some extra time.
It's crazy, I thought it was the roms I was using not charging right, but turns out it was my phone.

If you're already at a year, why not just wait until you have an upgrade available? Than you can def keep your epic.
Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I'll keep my Epic for another year. It's treated me good. I picked it up the day it came out and I've loved it. My replacement comes in tomorrow. Let's hope it lasts another year and by then a new phone will have my heart.

I got my Nexus in 2 days. It was so easy that I expected to get a bunk phone or an,Evo "by accident" but it was probably the easiest most pain free call I have made to Sprint yet

I should get my Epic replacement today. I just couldn't go with the Nexus. Little things like the lack of an LED really bother me, as I explained in another thread. Taking away features that should be so basic on every phone just IRKS me.
Personally, I would check and see what phone has the highest value on eBay. Check the completed auctions to see. If Epic isn't one of them consider replacing with the highest priced one and then sell it and buy an Epic 4G on eBay or like I did, on Craigslist.

I have insurance on the phone. I'd rather keep a replacement from them so I can keep the insurance on it. I don't have the money out of pocket to replace it if it's broken again. The insurance has already paid off with my need to replace it once.
I picked up my new Epic today. I finally don't feel disconnected from the world around me.
So I got my first shift on launch day. I was so excited to get away from my Moment. I got it from best buy and got the Black tie protection. I thought I got black tie in conjunction with the sprint insurance. Less than a month later, I drop the phone in the sink and take it to BB. They send it off to their repair ctr and I'm stuck with the Moment for 3 weeks before I get a new Shift. 3 weeks is a long time to wait for a phone, so I cancel the best buy insurance (thinking I still had sprint's.)
Then less than a month later, my down volume rocker stops working and i take the phone to the sprint store. Turns out, best buy canceled the sprint insurance and so not only do they not repair/replace the phone, they take pictures of the broken solder points on the volume rocker, circle them, and show me exactly where the hardware defect is that they wont fix! So I call Assurion pissed about this and get my insurance reinstated.
A couple weeks later, I take my phone to another sprint repair center and they tell me that my phone has been added to a "Do not repair" list and that they cant do anything about it. Furious again about this situation, I call sprint and they give me some crap about how the insurance didnt start til after the phone was placed on the list, so they cant fix the phone.
So I gave up. I cancelled the insurance again and just used the phone on vibrate all the time. Well, last week, my screen shattered and I was just gonna buy a new screen and fix it and the broken solder on the motherboard at one time. they wont fix it anyway right? But then my fiance suggested that I call sprint and complain again.
Well I did, and this time told them that as soon as the Nexus Prime came out, I would be leaving sprint (to whom I have been a loyal customer since 2001) for verizon and now all of a sudden, they're apologizing for the way they treated me. The rep said that they cant fix the shift because it was on the Do-not-repair list, but he could give me a brand new Epic Touch for $30 and I was still eligible for my upgrade in January.
Moral of the story is, Buy a case for your phone.
Either way you look at it, its time for an upgrade... Go with what makes you happy pal,, best of luck to you

Omg that hella sucks balls. They gave me that phone at bestbuy for a loaner while they tried to fix my hero. Then the refurb hero came in and it was stuck to a bad esn so they gave me a new shift. That sammy inter sucked worse then my hero ever did. I dont see any way in hell bb or sprint could send you an inny for a shift! This phone rocks way more socks. If you "paid" $30 bones for that i would raise hell worse then a nercomancer! Hope all ends and pays off for you and you took names and employee numbers!

Call Sprint raise Hell, and the mention the "V" word. They hate hearing that. Seems like once you mention Verizon, it changes their attitude. Well at least that's my experience .

Damn....I'm sorry. Call sprint, tell them you want to cancel and they"ll send you to 'rententions' (or they used to anyway, coulda changed in the past few years) and raise hell. You can prob squeeze out some major concessions if you mention verizon a few times

Well now we know why it was only $30 . sorry though thats horrible. my mother has the intercept and if she didn't need a phone i'd chunk it out the windows, skip it like a rock in the pond, and see if it would work as a speed bump for cars.
It's possibly the worst phone sprint carries "not to discourage the fun times you'll have with it"
but I would call sprint and (like everyone else said) raise hell as much as you can. hopefully you did take notes and kept track of this. and like prboy said make sure you mention Verizon that'll get em to do something.
I feel for ya, me and that phone hate each other, and even the custom roms and kernels don't help that much.
