So I'm jumping ship - EVO Shift 4G General

So I got my first shift on launch day. I was so excited to get away from my Moment. I got it from best buy and got the Black tie protection. I thought I got black tie in conjunction with the sprint insurance. Less than a month later, I drop the phone in the sink and take it to BB. They send it off to their repair ctr and I'm stuck with the Moment for 3 weeks before I get a new Shift. 3 weeks is a long time to wait for a phone, so I cancel the best buy insurance (thinking I still had sprint's.)
Then less than a month later, my down volume rocker stops working and i take the phone to the sprint store. Turns out, best buy canceled the sprint insurance and so not only do they not repair/replace the phone, they take pictures of the broken solder points on the volume rocker, circle them, and show me exactly where the hardware defect is that they wont fix! So I call Assurion pissed about this and get my insurance reinstated.
A couple weeks later, I take my phone to another sprint repair center and they tell me that my phone has been added to a "Do not repair" list and that they cant do anything about it. Furious again about this situation, I call sprint and they give me some crap about how the insurance didnt start til after the phone was placed on the list, so they cant fix the phone.
So I gave up. I cancelled the insurance again and just used the phone on vibrate all the time. Well, last week, my screen shattered and I was just gonna buy a new screen and fix it and the broken solder on the motherboard at one time. they wont fix it anyway right? But then my fiance suggested that I call sprint and complain again.
Well I did, and this time told them that as soon as the Nexus Prime came out, I would be leaving sprint (to whom I have been a loyal customer since 2001) for verizon and now all of a sudden, they're apologizing for the way they treated me. The rep said that they cant fix the shift because it was on the Do-not-repair list, but he could give me a brand new Epic Touch for $30 and I was still eligible for my upgrade in January.
Moral of the story is, Buy a case for your phone.

Either way you look at it, its time for an upgrade... Go with what makes you happy pal,, best of luck to you

Omg that hella sucks balls. They gave me that phone at bestbuy for a loaner while they tried to fix my hero. Then the refurb hero came in and it was stuck to a bad esn so they gave me a new shift. That sammy inter sucked worse then my hero ever did. I dont see any way in hell bb or sprint could send you an inny for a shift! This phone rocks way more socks. If you "paid" $30 bones for that i would raise hell worse then a nercomancer! Hope all ends and pays off for you and you took names and employee numbers!

Call Sprint raise Hell, and the mention the "V" word. They hate hearing that. Seems like once you mention Verizon, it changes their attitude. Well at least that's my experience .

Damn....I'm sorry. Call sprint, tell them you want to cancel and they"ll send you to 'rententions' (or they used to anyway, coulda changed in the past few years) and raise hell. You can prob squeeze out some major concessions if you mention verizon a few times

Well now we know why it was only $30 . sorry though thats horrible. my mother has the intercept and if she didn't need a phone i'd chunk it out the windows, skip it like a rock in the pond, and see if it would work as a speed bump for cars.
It's possibly the worst phone sprint carries "not to discourage the fun times you'll have with it"
but I would call sprint and (like everyone else said) raise hell as much as you can. hopefully you did take notes and kept track of this. and like prboy said make sure you mention Verizon that'll get em to do something.
I feel for ya, me and that phone hate each other, and even the custom roms and kernels don't help that much.

Need to Vent!

So... TODAY, I finally got my fascinate exactly how I want it.
Im running SC2.9.2V... Midnight Steel Theme... All my apps set....
everything running great. Best its ever been.
So, what happens...
The phone is sitting on the console of my car... Minding its own business... Some guy cuts me off and it falls between the small crack between my seat and the console. So, I park... get out of the car... and start to move the seat back and i hear CRACKKKKKKK......
So, I start moving the seat forward... Somehow, get my hand under the seat and pull out my phone... Screen is completely Cracked... ARGHHHHH
I have the Bestbuy insurance, so they will replace it, but now I have to start all over again.. Rooting... Installing... blah blah blah...
Ok... I feel slightly better now...
Gonna call Bestbuy now and start the replacement process
...good luck with that, most insurance policies through retailers don't cover cracked screens...
OK.. more VENTING
So, I call BB...
1... They tell me my plan was cancelled back in Dec... The Credit Card I had on file had expired and they couldnt bill it
2... They can not re-instate the policy because its over 3 months since cancellation
3... I had planned on telling them that I lost the phone, but it turns out that they dont cover loss or theft..
Man... This sucks
So, turns out, I am do for an upgrade on my account. I can get a new Fascinate from Verizon or maybe I just go for the ThunderBolt.....
Hmmmm.... Now it gets interesting
CPO fascinate was going for $39.99. If you don't want to spend all that money on a Thunderbolt.

Certified Pre-Owned. Phones that come with nothing but a Battery. Also no manufacturer warranty, as far as I know.
Check them out on Verizon's website. Mine came with battery, charger, 16gb sd card, and 1 year warranty. I have had zero issue's, and the phone looked brand new.

I actually called Verizon and added the $5/month insurance...
Their insurance offers a replacement for lost phones.. the deductible is $99 for smartphones.
I cant make a claim for 30 days.

Its gonna be a long 30 days looking at that stupid spiderweb crack all thru the glass.
Does it still work?? You can always make a backup in Clockwork/get your new phone/use your SD Card/Root and restore.

Phone works perfect. And that is totally the plan... I just need to get the new (or CPO) phone.
Its funny... I keep thinking about the guy that cut me off... The only reason I was on that road at that time, was because I happened to go to sunglasshut and bought my wife a new pair of sunglasses... She recently broke hers and was complaining that she wanted new ones. I was gonna surprise her tonight with the new pair.
See what I get for being UNSELFISH!
Had I just headed home after work, none of this would have happened. I better get some action from her tonight !

CPO phone is actually great. People might think it is bad because someone previously owned, but I bought one in January and its running smooth as my brother's Fascinate. I actually do recommend it.

My car likes to eat my phone all the time, take a turn like Jeremy Clarkson and it goes OM NOM NOM. I think my case and zagg skin have saved it from a similar fate.
Squaretrade. Warranty service is far superior to any extended warranty. Accidental drops and handling. Water damage also covered. $99 for two years coverage with $50 deductible. They will replace your broken phone with a brand new one, or give you up to $499 for a new one.

Classic I know how that goes.
No doubt a cpo will work just as well but its a shame to renew a 2 year contract for a facinate now. Yea the facinate fing rocks after flashing new kernel, rom, radio, and voodooing the filetable to ext. But is this really a good time to lock into a two year contract for a preowned facinate?
E#verytime I have my phone exactly how i want it something new comes out like a new kernel or a new something and then i end up temp bricking my phone and starting all over... I guess your worse off having to get a new phone... but on the other hand you'll have a new phone!

Epic is Toast

So, after over a year without any major issues with my phone and no replacements, my Epic is ready to be replaced. My charger port is no longer charging correctly. Sprint said that Epics are on backorder and it may take a week and have offered me an Evo, Evo Shift, or Nexus as a replacement. I actually LOVE my Epic thanks to all of the developers on here and custom roms available. What would you do?
get the nexus or wait a week?
I highly recommend the Nexus S if you enjoy having the latest&greatest roms, and active community.
However, if you are attached to the Epic, then wait a week. This phone still has a lot to offer once it get's Gingerbread, and though that seems like a long time from now, I'm sure your patience would be rewarded one way or another.
Getting the Evo or Evo Shift is pointless due to its lack of Odin or ADB. In my opinion, rooting and flashing roms on an HTC device is risky.
So those are my two options for ya. I recommend the Nexus, but I hope the Epic still persuades you to stay with the community. It would be unfortunate for another member to go, however do not feel like that should hold you back.
Nexus. I love my Epic but I could live without the keyboard if it means faster updates

So, I decided to get an Epic replacement and already told them to place the order in. I really do love this phone and the community around it. I considered the Nexus seriously, but decided I wasn't willing to give up on this phone yet. It's been the best smartphone I've had yet.
I would seriously like to see a non-FC GB release though lol, EH17 and below have driven me crazy! I hope Samsung and Sprint don't leave us behind with the Touch out.

Wait is this through the replacement program? If not is it exchanged for free? I have the same issue with my charger port.
i had this same issue and when i went to take it into the sprint repair center they didnt even look at it and told me that i had to file a claim for the insurance. 2 weeks a 2 damaged replacement phones later im still stuck with a phone that i cannot charge or flash. Asurion sucks make sure they send you a new one and dont take no for an answer!!!

If you're already at a year, why not just wait until you have an upgrade available? Than you can def keep your epic.
Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I'll keep my Epic for another year. It's treated me good. I picked it up the day it came out and I've loved it. My replacement comes in tomorrow. Let's hope it lasts another year and by then a new phone will have my heart.

I got my Nexus in 2 days. It was so easy that I expected to get a bunk phone or an,Evo "by accident" but it was probably the easiest most pain free call I have made to Sprint yet

I should get my Epic replacement today. I just couldn't go with the Nexus. Little things like the lack of an LED really bother me, as I explained in another thread. Taking away features that should be so basic on every phone just IRKS me.
Personally, I would check and see what phone has the highest value on eBay. Check the completed auctions to see. If Epic isn't one of them consider replacing with the highest priced one and then sell it and buy an Epic 4G on eBay or like I did, on Craigslist.

I have insurance on the phone. I'd rather keep a replacement from them so I can keep the insurance on it. I don't have the money out of pocket to replace it if it's broken again. The insurance has already paid off with my need to replace it once.
I picked up my new Epic today. I finally don't feel disconnected from the world around me.

Early upgrade for high value customers...

Fyi, till December 31, in corporate retail stores sprint has a targeted offer to allow upgrades many months in advance for "high value" customers. Basically I've seen customers with bills averaging over 130 getting upgrades available as early as 9 months before true eligibility. Only way to check is to actually go in to a corporate retail store and have them look at your account. Under offers for your line it will say early hup. Manager has to override price but you could hit the upgrade lottery
This will NOT be reflected online, on the phone, or through any other method than physically setting foot in the retail store. Just FYI. Good luck.

Yeah I feel the same way.. sure, I can roll the dice and see if I can drop 200$ on an early upgrade E4GT, but it's not THAT much better to burn my upgrade so early.
I got my daughter the epic touch; it is pretty nice. ROMs are still maturing though.

I just found out about this and walked out with a new Epic touch for the wife and I.
I called sprint to see if I could get around the $36 activation fee. What we ended up doing was the allowed me to buy out my term for $45 each then he credited me $100 on my account and waived the activation fees!

Yeah, as much as I like new toys to play with (root, rom etc.) there's nothing available that would even tempt me out of my $200.. now if Sprint gets the Galaxy Nexus in the next couple days.. that might be a different story (my buddy keeps sending me pics and updates about which roms he's flashed etc.. he just got the damn nexus today.. lol)
Our account is just over $130/mo with taxes and such... 2x (SeroP + 4G + $8 TEP). Anyways, my wife has been complaining so much about her Evo, and won't let me root/rom it that I want to get her an iPhone just to shut her up...
I managed to pick up an epic touch for cheap without using my upgrade, but I have to say I would hold onto my upgrade if I didn't have other options. Phones in 2012 will be quad core, amoled hd, and lte. But if you are desperate, it is another option for you.

I am happy I didn't jump on the upgrades a few months ago when I could. Now my upgrade comes in July right when the new LTE phones come out. So everything works out if you let it

got mine the epic touch; she had the htc shift. she is all now.
haven't rooted it yet, letting the roms mature a bit before putting anything on it.
it is very nice, the sgs3 though is looking like a sweet phone, i'm waiting to see what all unfolds next year.

Am I being petty, pebble blue finish not perfect

Just got my blue SGS3 today and I've noticed one area where the finish appears scratched, but UNDERNEATH the glaze. Hard to photograph with my crappy old phone, but the photo makes it look less noticeable than it really is.
Should I keep it or send it back? Anyone else got this prob?

PCadvisor is reporting that the Blue version of the SIII won't be available for a few days yet.
Got mine today in Australia. Finish is perfect as far as I can tell, has none of issues shown by op. Send it back.

^^ this. For a phone that costs $700, I'd think anything that looks like it shouldn't be there warrants a replacement.

Well I've called up my service provider and they've agreed to replace it with another new one - only problem is that they aren't getting another batch in for 2 weeks new one won't arrive til 27th June...
I can still keep this one til then, but it means I have to baby it/not take it out for fear of dropping it/not root it, basically treat it as a loaner.
I'm half tempted to say f*ck it, I'll just keep it - but you're all right, this is an expensive machine, I don't want a faulty paint job! Who's to say it won't get worse as well, since it's a prob with manufacturing process.
Get a replacement and ask for bill credit for your trouble... you're going to have to re input all your apps and info... worth a shot

Already ahead of ya - they've agreed to waive the 2wks fees (£17) that I'll be without my "own" S3. I thought about going ape and demanding a whole month (£34), but took pity on the girl in the call centre in India.
Plus it's not really Three's fault, it's Samsung's fault. Three haven't been too bad to me so far, so I won't be an a**hole difficult customer to them until it's warranted

I'd recommend that you tell them your situation that you'll keep it till the new stock arrives and they ship it to you. I remember having a similar issue with my Motorola razor v9 flip phone (att USA). They sent me a new razor and asked me to return the defective phone once I've received the new one. This should work for them.

True, but do you honestly think they are going to open every box and inspect for bad craftsmanship? If they were part of the assembly process then sure, but they merely order en mass and then either drop ship to their customers or reship from their warehouse.
I think the OP is doing the right and ethical thing by not blowing this out of proportion. To many people these days try and milk every little "mistake" that cross their path. But to each their own, the important thing is that he is getting a replacement with no down time and a few bucks for his troubles.

I like the pebble blue colour, a lot. I much prefer it over plain black or white

Think it has something to do with Apple, whether they want to admit it or not. Had a black version been available, I'd have gotten that one, but I've settled with the white version for now(was going for the blue version, but after seeing it in person I'm glad I went with white when the former was delayed).
It'll probably not be that long lived if the Note 2 gets released in October.

Going to Sprint this morning to return my EVO LTE for the gs3 on day 11 of my 14 days. Never actually returned a phone before so let's hope this goes as planned.

I asked them friday if I could get the EvoLTE then change to the GS3 and said no, the first batch will be for people buying the phone and the second batch could be for phone swaps. Needless to say, Im going to a store also and buying the phone today.
This is why I went to bb for the 30 day return period. I don't like the evolte myself and can't wait for 2 more hours to have the gs3 woohoo

The stupid thing is the policy states you can exchange the phone, but the employee who originally sold it to you will get dinged for the exchange (even though you are going still have a phone). Also, some stores have an in-this-store-only policy to only allow new sales with contract (you know - the ones that they make commission on) for the first run of phones so they reserve the inventory to those that make them money.
Sprint doesn't like these type of exchanges because they now have to make a $550 phone into a refurbished phone, losing the subsidy for it (whether it's done in BB or corporate stores) and because of how much it affects the salesperson's overall numbers, it's become a huge deal just to take advantage of the policy.
Best advice: Don't be a crybaby about policy, stay cool and keep calm. If you start getting mad or demanding your money back, you're going to have a bad time. Bring all the crap that came with the evo (box, manual, charger and cable) and if you buy accessories from them for the GSIII, it might help sway their decision.

Yeah just when you get there lied that you are a new activation, I can't believe I had to say that at tmobile store to exchnaged my one s, I just told them if they didn't have it I just wanted a refund, and somehow they had the phone

Well back from the sprint store disappointed,I was greeted with 'we can't do exchanges until tomorrow" ...so I came close to asking for a refund and going to T-Mobile...but my nosey gf convinced me to wait until tomorrow. On a positive note, I actually got to play with it for a while and man does it blow away the EVO lte ....And I'm definitely getting the white, the blue just didn't appeal to me.

I was told that they couldnt sell it because first batch was only for new lines or upgrades... I called account management and they told me they couldnt do that, so they talked to the employee who then called the store manager who allowed the guy to sell me the phone... yup, Im another proud owner of a Galaxy S III phone.
Now a proud owner of a white gs3 ...Took only 10mins, got to say the sprint rep was very easy going and didn't make it difficult. Loving the phone so far, I think I'm so use to Samsung phones now and that was probably why I couldn't appreciate the Evo lte
