anyone notice the launchers aren't as fast on 2.3 as they were on 2.2? i mean on 2.2 launcherpro was super smooth switching screens and opening app drawer. its so slow on 2.3, same with zeam, go launcher ex, etc. i might have to go back to 2.2...............
no problems here...
for LP, try messing with the animation/transition speeds...
ok flashed the latest nightly seems to have fixed my prob, i was running #30 before
On the stock Gingerbread they still lag with anything above 5 screens.
its been posted before that gingerbread is not smooth with different launchers. most say that hopefully an update to the launcher may fix it, i.e. launcher pro updated to work better with 2.3.3.
ADW launcher 5 screens and smooth
I have ADW launcher 5 screens and smooth for me
i flashed yesterday's nightly and my launcher pro is super smooth again now before i was using a pre rc1 nightly and it was laggy
Might have to do with the launchers; when using Go Launcher and having around 8 screens loaded with icons, the phone lagged and stuttered when switching.
Now I use Zeam with 5 and it is silky smooth aand everything is very faster.

Google made some changes in 2D mode, so the app must be updated, or it will got poor performance 2D like launcherpro 0.8.3 does.
But there is a good side: in the benchmark, graphics score increased by 5times.
Also looks like google made 2d refresh rate locked on 30fps.
I also experienced this issue when I was using Zeam, but I recently switched back to LauncherPro and I'm silky smooth again. Like a previous poster mentioned, you are probably going to have to mess around with the transitions and speeds. Im running CM7 RC2.

what do you mean they locked it at 30 FPS? currently on 2.2 the FPS is around 50FPS for most UI elements like screen swiping and transitions. why would they go backwards...
I have the Go Launcher Ex, and I don't see anything slower than in 2.2, it's even faster.
But, the app drawer, in my opinion, is a bit slower than in 2.2

I have noticed that some benchmarks on 2.3.3 gots stable 29fps vs floating 50fps~ on froyo.
UI not so smooth too, i guess they did it to decrease a power consumtion.
But on other side - on nexus S all runs smooth like on froyo, so im not sure if im right

So, I'm running Fresh 2 beta 2, with OC kernel.
It's pretty fast, and I'm really impressed.
HOWEVER.
I have always had, and continue to have, issues with the scrolling in my apps folder.
If I scroll up and down, it judders, stops and starts scrolling, lags behind my finger.
Does anyone else have this issue ? It's just not smooth at all.
Yep, had the same thing with the OC rom.
Couple of issues with it really.
Random Rebooting. Helix and Sense both choppy.
Linpack and Neocore scores where great, but day to day use was "ehh" at best.

Are you using A2SD? If so, what class specification is your SDCard? If your card is to slow, that could be your problem..
Also.. Download Overclock widget or SetCPU and make sure you are in fact running at 767Mhz.. I know that sometimes my phone has been pegging @ 480, so I just fiddle with SetCPU and get the speed back to 767 and have no issues at all.
OS uses a crap load of CPU resources just for scrolling. Hell I'm starting to think it's the OS and not the hardware that makes scrolling so laggy. Open up the System Panal app and scroll the active apps up and down real fast and watch the CPU percentage sky rocket to 70-75% and watch the CPU clock pretty much maxes out...WTF :O. I did the same thing on my Hero and it maxes out 99.9%. When I scroll slow and the CPU spikes the phone lags. So it's not the hardware it's the horrible optimized OS.
I think the way its setup it doesn't use the graphics chip to render graphics on the homescreens. This is why some stuff is choppy. I think they changed this in Froyo though as it is blistering fast no matter if you have live wallpapers running or whatelse is going on. After going from 2.1 to 2.2 update on my Nexus it was like night and day difference, Froyo will send the EVO over the top, can't wait to see an update!
Android is a parts bin product made by a bunch of google developers....ya it's a joke.
Ya, get a froyo rom.. its soo much faster. And its also the developers of apps that fail. I watched some Google I/O videos the other day about optimizations, ListView in particular. If developers keep creating more views as users scroll down, instead of reusing the ones that are no longer on screen, scroll speed would improve dramatically. But like i said, froyo is where its at. Get the Evolution v8 rom with RevA, its extremely fast and stable. Camera support will be coming soon im sure though.

So why do you even bothering commenting on a board that's obviously about people who like Android?
I'm going to assume it was sarcasm
I have been trying a number of clock widgets lately, and they all seem to make scrolling between home screens lag a bit. I am currently using Simi widget and cm7 rc1, and when I drag over to the screen that has the widget on it, the dragging motion gets choppy.
I know this is a minoor complaint, given that the overall performance of this phone is stellar, but it still gets to me. Does everybody else get this to a noticeable degree? I can see why some lag is to be expected, but are some widgets better than others?
Hmmm another vague post. Which kernel and what rom? run it at 1017mhz using interactive and you won't have any lag matter of fact I tested it on 368mhz, 768mhz and still no lag in my end set at ondemand.

I mentioned in the post that I am using CM7 RC1, and I am using whichever kernel comes with it. I will try fiddling with setcpu settings to see if I can get an improvement.
I turned on the adw scrolling cache, which most people recommend not doing, but I think it may have made things smoother.

My bad confused you with the other guy who posted in this same section well ATM I manually removed ADW and replaced it with ADW Ex. But I tested it and do remember running it even at 368mhz with no lag. Revert back to the original setting and then use interactive governor beyond 768mhz depending on how intensive your widgets are. You can do it from CPU settings if you don't want to install SetCPU.
I'm using fancy widget for my clock. I don't see any lag between screens with it. I'm also using cpu tuner to set my profile triggers.

My Desire HD is nearing perfection.
I have flashed Android Revolution HD 5.1.11 without sense and honeycomb theme by he_stheone64. Even without HTC Sense I tried to make my phone even more LEAN by freezing several unwanted and unneeded processes and apps (LEAN is important for me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_manufacturing)).
I flashed the CRT screen off animation and HTC Trace for swiping.
I bought ADW launcher EX and personalized is with several themes and icons.
My avarage benchmark scores with Quadrant are 2149. With smartbench 1784 - 1531.
Now I'm curious about your phone! What is perfection for you?!
I flashed ARHD too and i just love my DHD now! Perfectly smooth ROM. The only annoying thing is that i have battery drain since i flashed latest version. Applied HSPA+ patch and hope it fixes drain.

I run ARHD 5.1.11 with Sense and also flashed Sense 3.0 all-in-one. Only improvement I would like is a built-in volume improvement. For now I use Volume+ which works fine. I am sure we will be amazed when 5.1.12 appears with the improvements that makes.
I am not seeing any battery drain problems with 5.1.11 and can only think it is down to each individuals customized setup beyond the base ARDH ROM.

Ok, ok you win.... My DHD is running at 1.22 Ghz, yours probably way above that.
But what matter to me also is my DHD is very smooth and with normal use I can streych it to 3 days. Normal use includes around 3 maybe 4 hours of listening to music each day, update mail several times a day calling and sms/what's app.
hello,
I use CM7 Nigthly 115 + LorDMoD UE 5.0
with Go Home
I use these parameters all time : BRAZILIANWAX governor at 230MHz - 1536MHz
In quadrant standard I obtain 3132
With that I have never bugs or freeze, and the battery take 2 days to be empty
I tested in Performance Mode at 1843-1843 ah have just 2821
Scores do not mean anything, we once made a ROM that could reach 3900 points in quadrant, but was quite laggy in daily use. Do not look at benchmarks, but overall system smoothness. If you like a ROM, then keep it

I fully agree with you. If your ROM is as smooth as a hot through butter then the benchmarks don't matter.
Optimization is the key.

Hi all
i used a lot of ICS roms here but it seemed to be bad in gameing and not fast as the GB ..
Is this the problem of ICS ????
when I use GB i play a heavy games with no problem , but in ICS it is laggy and i need to overclock the cpu to play .. even though still laggy ..
also in the performance , i see the GB is much better and smooth than ICS ..
I am now back to GB but I missed the ICS ..
It will be better if there is a hyberd rom that is contain GB and ICS togather ..
so in your opinion : what is the problem ??
is it from ICS ?? or the arc is weak to get good ICS ???
Neither the arc, nor the arc s is too weak.
Let's take my HTC Wildfire S as instance:
600 MHz SC CPU
512 MB RAM (400 useable, btw this is more than on arc (s))
CM9 runs perfectly smoothly. Also the new xperia lineup has 800 MHz phones which have the new timescape gui and ICS.
I think the problem are insufficient drivers or just a *****y programming with memleaks.
The amount of free RAM is also a reason.
everyone has their own definition of what is smooth. as for me, i define it as:
1. Fling of homescreens and applications on stock launcher is solid iPhone-like even with widgets on a non-live wallpaper. The smoothness that would not let you think of Jelly Bean at all.
2. Basic applications critical for phone use like Contacts, Messaging, Browser should also be as smooth as number 1 above.
3. Temple Run Brave while in the gameplay, no lost frames and instant response on swipes. Reason is not for gaming, but means the phone will behave smoothly on heavy processing.
Since everyone has different opinion on smoothness, nobody can tell that their phone is smoothest.
What I can say though is that on any ICS ROM I have tried, nothing meets my 3 criteria above. Hence I stick with Gingerbread.
I am critical and allergic to laggy interface / phone. Destroys the experience, makes you insecure of other phones.
I installed "Jellybread" by omenHTX today and it's great Gingerbread Stuff! You should give it a shot
After so many bad experiences with ICS I am really glad someone focused on GB again
Greetings!

I was thinking about it and I think the problem is from Sony itself
maybe they give us a garbage update to feel that our phone is outdated to Chang it ..
UI Smoothness is more than acceptable on Arconium ICS but the phone is simply just too slow in the performance department, so it lags a lot - on both ICS and GB. Stock GB was just a small tad faster than Arconium ICS and significantly faster than stock ICS.
The biggest difference was the animation smoothness though, because the phone lacks performance under GB too - the processor runs at 100% for a few seconds until it launches some heavier apps, and with ICS even basic apps like youtube became heavy.
