My Desire HD is nearing perfection.
I have flashed Android Revolution HD 5.1.11 without sense and honeycomb theme by he_stheone64. Even without HTC Sense I tried to make my phone even more LEAN by freezing several unwanted and unneeded processes and apps (LEAN is important for me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_manufacturing)).
I flashed the CRT screen off animation and HTC Trace for swiping.
I bought ADW launcher EX and personalized is with several themes and icons.
My avarage benchmark scores with Quadrant are 2149. With smartbench 1784 - 1531.
Now I'm curious about your phone! What is perfection for you?!
I flashed ARHD too and i just love my DHD now! Perfectly smooth ROM. The only annoying thing is that i have battery drain since i flashed latest version. Applied HSPA+ patch and hope it fixes drain.

I run ARHD 5.1.11 with Sense and also flashed Sense 3.0 all-in-one. Only improvement I would like is a built-in volume improvement. For now I use Volume+ which works fine. I am sure we will be amazed when 5.1.12 appears with the improvements that makes.
I am not seeing any battery drain problems with 5.1.11 and can only think it is down to each individuals customized setup beyond the base ARDH ROM.

Ok, ok you win.... My DHD is running at 1.22 Ghz, yours probably way above that.
But what matter to me also is my DHD is very smooth and with normal use I can streych it to 3 days. Normal use includes around 3 maybe 4 hours of listening to music each day, update mail several times a day calling and sms/what's app.
hello,
I use CM7 Nigthly 115 + LorDMoD UE 5.0
with Go Home
I use these parameters all time : BRAZILIANWAX governor at 230MHz - 1536MHz
In quadrant standard I obtain 3132
With that I have never bugs or freeze, and the battery take 2 days to be empty
I tested in Performance Mode at 1843-1843 ah have just 2821
Scores do not mean anything, we once made a ROM that could reach 3900 points in quadrant, but was quite laggy in daily use. Do not look at benchmarks, but overall system smoothness. If you like a ROM, then keep it

I fully agree with you. If your ROM is as smooth as a hot through butter then the benchmarks don't matter.
Optimization is the key.

What is the " with dec s uncapped kernel clocked to 768. Using battery tweak, juice defender, jit enabled, surface dithering disabled, home locked in memory" you are refering to?
I currently use set cpu to overclock to 691. I currently am only getting just under 3 mflops and just under 400 on quadrant.

Decad3nce has an uncapped Kernel - the stock cm6 one is capped so users with older chips (without the "With Google" branding) can boot.
Battery Tweak by Dec and Collin_Ph improves battery life by installing a small user defined service (I can't remember what exactly it does)
Juice defender is an app in the market that controls battery use of apps.
JIT - "Just In Time" compiling - very techy stuff here but more or less gives you more MFLOPS - but our Heros dont have enough ram for it to truely be effective.
Surface Dithering is a CM6 option that makes the screen look better. Google the term and see what it does for photos and stuff.
Home Locked in memory keeps the OS from flushing it from cache and causing a few issues, like hitting the home button and all the screens being blank for a second while it populates them.
So the above statement is just his lits of configs that make the device run best for him. But remember MFLOPs and Quadrants aren't everything Alot of it is feel.
Wow that was nice and detailed explanation. I'd up vote it if I could.
I haven't used the uncalled kernal. I have with google branding. I think I'll try it anyway.

I gave up using Fresh ROM because it was getting laggy and we haven't had an update since August, so I finally made the switch to Cyanogen's RC1. Overclocked to 768 mhz, I've been getting 438 consistently on Quadrant. Linpack has been giving me varying results around 3 MFLOPS. The best I've gotten was 3.25.

why dont you just root it and apply OC kernel and get rid of the bloatware? mine runs smooth as hell on stock rom
i'll 2nd the mikshift rom and also the bcnice oc kernel (& setcpu) after loading the rom
the processor runs at 250'ish mhz when not being used then jumps up to a nice snappy 1.5ghz undervolted any time its being used
the speeds are completely configurable go as high or as low as you like under certain conditions or keep it stock at a constant 800mhz

Whats an OC kernal?
OC stands for over-clocking, so a kernel that has the ability to be over-clocked, aka, run faster than the factory settings

The kernels are undervolted...where the voltage of the processor is lowered to have better battery life and performance..so its better for you..even if you stay running at 806mhz

I second KILO, I know some people hate the Sense UI but there are alot of people that like it. My wife specifically got this phone just for Friend Stream. Root + Stock Rom + OC Kernel is really a great combo and verry stable. Getting rid of the bloatware will make you feel good, but the phone runs well with it, so it is not essential. However every sprint phone I get the first thing to go is Nascar and Football app, ESPN is better imho.
I personally like the AOSP look and feel

Not really. It's faster, but not like WAY FASTER.
CM7 is not much quicker than for example JVP. I ran both for quite some time now and I think I'll stick with sammy rom since I want to be able to take 720p video's and use fm radio.
Also battery life is a bit of a deal breaker for me.
OT. Sure sgs2 will be faster especially when sgs2+cm7 (when available)

It was much faster until gingerbread, now the difference is not significant IMHO
i wondered and tried, i guess there is no big difference.. besides i believe the main difference comes with a good optimized software.. sgs 2 should be %45-50 faster than sgs on hardware but i think its rom is better optimized than sgs rom..

I switched from JVP to MIUI, then to CM7.
MIUI is faster and smoother as JVP in everyway, but CM7 is not fast, it is instant. Test your Phone app after boot with JVP. I got sometimes 2 seconds latency.
The worst battery life has MIUI with its heavy UI.
With CM7 I got still a faster phone at 800 MHz. This is so amazing, I could not even believe it by myself.
Battery is running easly over 1 day with the current CM7 nightly.

Haven't tried JVP. But, tbh , never noticed that much speed difference between CM7 and stock GB.
However, stock GB, seemed to lag over a period of time, which didn't happen for me in CM7, while I was using it.
I have tried Galaxy S 2 (two models), one (probably because it already had quite a few apps and data), was not very smooth , esp. noticeable when loading gallery (took around 4s)...
The other one was super smooth and much faster than CM7..
I think my Sgs phone is quicker than my mates SGS II when using galician kernel at 1.4Ghz, man its quick

To be more precise, Stock Samsung ROMs are fast after install. But with a lot of apps installed there is too less memory, because mostly usefull apps are reserving memory space in background. If I use aggressive memory configurations some important apps like launcher, phone and contact are thrown out of memory. This occurs also if I delete some crap at system. With Froyo this issue wasn't so much present like with Gingerbread.

Definitely not, an ICS based ROM is the best e.g. NexusHD2. GB doesn't have full HWA and thus performance is not comparable to ICS.

But as far as ICS goes, yes i see the performance increase in it, but it has many issues still, although subtle, it does have lag spikes, even on an overclock.
Ιcs has better scrolling, you can write or edit more easy a big document but the issue that "kills" me and i went back to gingerbread is video playing. Also yes it can play better some games from ginger but not all games are compatible with ics and for some games you must move between newer and older ics hwa gpu libs.Cause older libs have more lag when moving between menus and newer libs cause some games to crash after 3-5 minutes of playing
In gingerbread you can play 720p videos, flash videos over 240p without lag.I am afraid that if we ever be able to get jelly bean, these issues will continue to be there

Battery drain is pretty much the same between CM9 and CM7 from my experience. Most of the time I can easily get a full day out of ICS with around 40% left.
Me too.I can get about 2.30-3 hours of full use with open screen in both roms
I really do think that the ICS roms must be better. However, i cannot play a few games on them -_-
The first one is N.O.V.A. 2 HD And the second one is Asphalt 6 adrenaline
Any clues ? NOVA lags like hell... It's almost unplayable
And asphalt just keeps showing the incompatible error -.-

Not much really. Just have JuiceDefender and SetCPU installed to try to minimize drain when screen off. When the screen is on, I really dont bother doing anything other than reducing brightness. Its actually a lot better than you'd think, I watched inception for an or and a half and only lost 24% of my battery. I've found it to be really inconsistent though.

Hey,
maybe it is a lil bit silly question but I have to ask:
Is the I9000 able to run Temple Run real smooth? It runs stuttery on my Device with Semaphore + Slim ICS on default Settings but even though on OC Settings too.
The thing is: On my SO's iPhone 3GS it runs without any problems? So is it maybe a ROM Issue or is the I9000 Gaming Perfomance really worse the 3gs performance?
Thanks

Runs fine here as well, I'm on SlimICS 4.2 with stock kernel no overclocking.
Try the latest version from the devs site http://www.slimroms.com/
I tried everything. I was on Slim ICS 4.2 with Semaphore 1.2.5 - tried every governor (Performance, Smartass) but still stuttery.
Now I installed another Rom which is CM9 based and ..still stuttery (RemiICS). I don't have installed that much + synchonisation is for most addons disabled. WiFi enabled. Any other app is closed. Sometimes it tuns smooth, sometimes it's not playable, sometimes there a lil bit of lag. I even tried HugeRam enabled :/

You can't compare the gaming performance with the iPhone, because iOS is optimised for apps and games. Apps and games is like the main purpose of iOS.
On android the focus is more for multitasking, media handling etc so the optimisation for games is not as good, even if we have better hardware.
It's just like how even a dual core phone cannot play a NDS game through emulator as smooth as a NDS itself, even though the processor in the NDS is about 100-300MHz.
Hmm, try using a task manager to get rid of the background processes, get rid of bloatware in your phone etc. Hope it helps!

just use CM9 OR AOKP man and it will work smoothly..
on DarkyROM v11 black edition with Semaphore ICS 1.2.5 runs great!!!!!
But why isn't it possible to set a "high priority" or something else so I can focus on the game I play and my browser in the background just ..pauses? Won't that be great? ;/
Btw I tried CM9 but had a few problems (wasnt able to download apps after I set dpi back to 240 and got bootloop after installing Semaphore (correct version)) so I did a complete new installation of Slim ICS with everything wiped, even system.
At the time it is pretty smooth but sometimes but I hadn't the time to really test it (2 games so far) - btw I'm currently using midnight ICS Kernel with Ondemand governor. Was a midnight-gb fan and even thought it is outdated and discontinued I still think it's a really nice kernel. But in case I get rnd reboots or performance issues I'll give Semaphore another try.
