I have been trying a number of clock widgets lately, and they all seem to make scrolling between home screens lag a bit. I am currently using Simi widget and cm7 rc1, and when I drag over to the screen that has the widget on it, the dragging motion gets choppy.
I know this is a minoor complaint, given that the overall performance of this phone is stellar, but it still gets to me. Does everybody else get this to a noticeable degree? I can see why some lag is to be expected, but are some widgets better than others?
Hmmm another vague post. Which kernel and what rom? run it at 1017mhz using interactive and you won't have any lag matter of fact I tested it on 368mhz, 768mhz and still no lag in my end set at ondemand.

I mentioned in the post that I am using CM7 RC1, and I am using whichever kernel comes with it. I will try fiddling with setcpu settings to see if I can get an improvement.
I turned on the adw scrolling cache, which most people recommend not doing, but I think it may have made things smoother.

My bad confused you with the other guy who posted in this same section well ATM I manually removed ADW and replaced it with ADW Ex. But I tested it and do remember running it even at 368mhz with no lag. Revert back to the original setting and then use interactive governor beyond 768mhz depending on how intensive your widgets are. You can do it from CPU settings if you don't want to install SetCPU.
I'm using fancy widget for my clock. I don't see any lag between screens with it. I'm also using cpu tuner to set my profile triggers.

So, I'm running Fresh 2 beta 2, with OC kernel.
It's pretty fast, and I'm really impressed.
HOWEVER.
I have always had, and continue to have, issues with the scrolling in my apps folder.
If I scroll up and down, it judders, stops and starts scrolling, lags behind my finger.
Does anyone else have this issue ? It's just not smooth at all.
Yep, had the same thing with the OC rom.
Couple of issues with it really.
Random Rebooting. Helix and Sense both choppy.
Linpack and Neocore scores where great, but day to day use was "ehh" at best.

Are you using A2SD? If so, what class specification is your SDCard? If your card is to slow, that could be your problem..
Also.. Download Overclock widget or SetCPU and make sure you are in fact running at 767Mhz.. I know that sometimes my phone has been pegging @ 480, so I just fiddle with SetCPU and get the speed back to 767 and have no issues at all.
anyone notice the launchers aren't as fast on 2.3 as they were on 2.2? i mean on 2.2 launcherpro was super smooth switching screens and opening app drawer. its so slow on 2.3, same with zeam, go launcher ex, etc. i might have to go back to 2.2...............
no problems here...
for LP, try messing with the animation/transition speeds...
ok flashed the latest nightly seems to have fixed my prob, i was running #30 before
On the stock Gingerbread they still lag with anything above 5 screens.
its been posted before that gingerbread is not smooth with different launchers. most say that hopefully an update to the launcher may fix it, i.e. launcher pro updated to work better with 2.3.3.
ADW launcher 5 screens and smooth
I have ADW launcher 5 screens and smooth for me
i flashed yesterday's nightly and my launcher pro is super smooth again now before i was using a pre rc1 nightly and it was laggy
Might have to do with the launchers; when using Go Launcher and having around 8 screens loaded with icons, the phone lagged and stuttered when switching.
Now I use Zeam with 5 and it is silky smooth aand everything is very faster.

Google made some changes in 2D mode, so the app must be updated, or it will got poor performance 2D like launcherpro 0.8.3 does.
But there is a good side: in the benchmark, graphics score increased by 5times.
Also looks like google made 2d refresh rate locked on 30fps.
I also experienced this issue when I was using Zeam, but I recently switched back to LauncherPro and I'm silky smooth again. Like a previous poster mentioned, you are probably going to have to mess around with the transitions and speeds. Im running CM7 RC2.

what do you mean they locked it at 30 FPS? currently on 2.2 the FPS is around 50FPS for most UI elements like screen swiping and transitions. why would they go backwards...
I have the Go Launcher Ex, and I don't see anything slower than in 2.2, it's even faster.
But, the app drawer, in my opinion, is a bit slower than in 2.2

I have noticed that some benchmarks on 2.3.3 gots stable 29fps vs floating 50fps~ on froyo.
UI not so smooth too, i guess they did it to decrease a power consumtion.
But on other side - on nexus S all runs smooth like on froyo, so im not sure if im right
My main problem with the wildfire is ringing delay. I am not sure if any of you realized but there is a 5 second ring delay when you receive calls and this makes me miss shed loads of phone calls.
So I tried CM7. No luck. Then JokerDroid. No luck again. Then Wildpuzzle. Same ****e different day...
Finally I've found an aosp rom which start ringing immediately when I receive a call. (cm7 based ruymanca hellfire)
am I asking for too much? For god's sake it's a flippin phone, it should ring aye?!
Anyhow rant over,
The problem is; I like... like is an underestimate to be honest; I LOVE sense dialer and I want to marry one. But I can't go through all those rom installing hassle again and again. If any of you out there know of a stable sense rom that knows when to ring either speak up... This sentence isn't going anywhere sensible. But you got the idea right?
Did you try to change CPU governor? Try to use ondemand. I think that smartass is not to smart as it think, setting max freq to 400-something when screen is off, making delays in phone ring. Just my guess, since I can't see this problem in my jokerdroid, with ondemand governor.

Seconded. The incoming call lag is noticeably reduced when using Ondemand, but, on the flipside, I am getting poorer battery life than what it was before.
This is on CM7 obviously, but, should apply to Sense as well.
Yes that is a problem not only with CM7 but also any Sense based rom, or Stock rom...
For example on Stock rom it rings one and half time before I get notification that my phone is ringing...
My first suspicion was that this lag is because of lot of facebook links with pictures for each contact in people app, but when I removed all contacts problem still presists so... that is not an issue...
They (htc) really need somehow to fix that issue, because I heard that it is the same problem with hardware much stronger machines(i.e. Desire)...
I agree with you about the lag on CM7 and YES Ruymanca's Hellfire does not have this lag. But just like you, I love sense dialer and there is no good alternative to that.
I am on jokersdroid and have not noticed any lags when it comes to ringing. Maybe I just completely missed the calls
But I am not using any setcpu etc. programs, and using jokerdroid as it comes. No changes to the cpu speed whatsoever. I dont even know what are the min. and max. frequencies.
Have you tried any other sense rom without OC kernel? Maybe wildpuzzle? If you dont have lag there, than it is definitely the set frequencies in your kernel.
As I stated before... from what I heard (that not necessarily mean that it is true... ) some other phones like Desire have the same issue....
I, for one, do not own Desire, so I haven't tested it... but hey, if it is true than it is an interesting problem
i to have the same problem!
I notice this after i read your post. But now ,i found o solution to fix it.I change the ringtone(in my case i set cassiopeia) as default ring tone and now is way better.Maybe you can try aswell.

This is maybe caused by any CPU hungry background app, like live wallpapers or any other widget. The difference in ondemand and smartass, AFAIK, is that the second one sets maximun at an specific freq, but both uses minimun as they can. So, if you dont have any cpu hungry app, that keeps waking cpu, it should be no notable diference between this two governors in battery life.

I didn't change anything between the 2 governor setups, everything remains the same. But then again, after going through a few discharge cycles, the difference isnt so great anymore, which is a bit weird. :/
Just called myself to see if it's true, and didn't notice any lag As soon as the screen started to show an incoming call the phone started ringing (this is on JokerDROID 4.2 as it came). But when i recieved a text message (on stock froyo) first it vibrated and then after a second or so it played the notification ringtone.
My old nokia has the same issue. When I'm earing radio and a there is a call the radio switch off 3 or 4 sec before the first ring. I think that is normal for gsm devices. Isn't it?

I installed rempuzzle rom. Which is supposed to be the fastest as it supports JIT and optimized for speed. (says the developer)
Anyway, I have the same problem again. 3-4 seconds ring lag.
But the internet is soooo fast with this rom...
I want to know everyone's ways of getting a good gaming experience from the defy:
#Best rom(s)?
#tweaks/settings (sysctl values for example)
#Best number of multitouch points/ any other touchscreen tweaks
#Good CPU & Vsel settings for battery/performance balance
#I hate MIUI
I play mostly HD games like Nova 2 & 3, MC3, shadowgun and others as I rarely have access to a console
Thanks in advance for any tips

i use cm7 because i find this to be the best optimized, fastest rom ive tried, and now that cm7.2 stable is out, you pretty much have everything working.
about the multitouch point, ive noticed that the higger points you set, the less responsive it gets - although that was back when the first multitouch tweaks came out and it wasnt even implemented in cm, so it might have gotten better. but i recommend 2 points unless you need more - this is the default setting.
as for cpu settings i use these: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] governor: smartass (in cm9: boosted). this gives better battery life than ondemand. and i overclock from bootmenu, not from app (like setvsel). note that my vsel settimgs might be a little low for you, so i recommend starting from a higher value, stress testing it, and if you dont get freezes or reboots, go lower.
hope i could help, good luck!

I've been getting good gaming performance anyway lately, I always use bootmenu I think its the rom I'm using, cm7 cherry picks by FUZZ, you should check it out it has some extra features like toggle torch from lockscreen with home button, it also has touch bootmenu installed as default here's a link http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/gigglebread/?id=jordan

Don't get me wrong, I respect miui and have had roms for months at a time, it does perform great! I just can't get used to the interface I find myself clumsy with it, cm7 just seems natural, much easier to use in my case, its just my style I'm not a hater
Did a search and found a couple of different threads, but no solutions.
I am running MIUI 2.4.6 and have been for several months with absolutely no problems. Two days ago, I downloaded some new themes for my wife who is going to take over my Nook after my Nexus 7 arrives.
Anyway, I installed one to see how it looked and the lockscreen was one that required a full screen swipe instead of just pulling down. Well, a full screen swipe will not work on a tablet. Was unable to unlock so I went back to CWM and did a complete wipe, data, cache...everything.... and reinstalled the rom. That's when I started getting the freezing. Sometimes it freezes after 10 minutes and sometimes it will go longer. OK, thought I might have a bad flash, so I downloaded the zip again and did the wipe and re-flashed. Same freezing. I have tried fixing permissions. I have not installed any new apps or widgets that I wasn't using before.
Any ideas?
Try one more install of the rom. Do you use anything like a clock/weather widget? Those would really mess up my MIUI roms. Did you format data, system and cache before installing? Also, it's catch-22 with the themes. Some work, but more often than not, I would run into the problem where the lock screen wouldn't unlock and I would have to start all over.

I did all the wipes each time. No weather apps....as long as the themes show a circle, or slide, or the phone icon and the msg icon, then they are ok to use.
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?
Oh well!
Was the previous install of the rom overclocked? Also, the V6 supercharger script may help you. It sure helped get rid off my freezes. Also, in Nook tweaks, if you are overclocking, you might want to raise the voltage of step 5 by 1 tick.

Was not overclocked. But I will try the overclock and see if that helps and if not I will try try the V6 Supercharger.
I just got a Nexus 7 and giving the Nook to my wife....just wanted her not to have any problems. And I guess if all else fails, I'll just take it back to stock
Here's some nook optimization advice I gave to another guy. Hope it helps:
Hephaestus_ said:
After a few mods, my nook is almost butter smooth. ;P Here's the things I did:
Installed latest opengl cm9 build by eyeballer.
Overclocked processor to 1.2ghz with ondemand governor for general use.
Made voltage tweak of 1 tick higher than stock on the highest processor stepping using nook tweaks.
Set highest stepping to 1.325ghz using nook tweaks.
Made high performance profile in setcpu that would only activate the 1.325 ghz when certain 3d games were opened using governor performance.
Blocked certain system apps/processes that would not be used by the nook such as the calling one to free up system ram using Gemini app manager.
Ran the v6 supercharger script to optimize system set to the max performance setting for 512hp.
Ran and turned on all other performance tweaks in the supercharger script.
Made a widget using script manager to autorun fastengineflush.sh from v6 supercharger that cleans clutter and fees up ram.
Switched launcher to adwlauncher ex to remove scroll lag between home screens.
And that is how you can have a buttery smooth experience on the nook. ;P
Best of luck,
