I searched through the threads and really couldn't get a definitive answer I know a lot of people will say there isn't really any best radio just one that is best for you. With that said is the anyone in from this thread in the USA specifically in the Virginia Area more specifically in the Hampton Roads / Williamsburg area running TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 RC1+ v2.4.4 on their HD2?
Currently I am running this build on my HD2 with radio 2.15 but everyone who I talk to tells me I sound like I'm talking like I'm on speaker, in the bathroom, hallway, etc.
With that said anyone else running this Build with a different radio in this area with better experience?
Thanks to all who answer
try a 2.12 radio. in my experience anything before 2.12 doesnt work good at all. 2.12.50.02 seemed to work ok for me, but i still went back to 2.15.

Ya I just put on 2.12 lets see what happens I guess
2.12 fixed the problem I called one of my buddies who was the first one to say he you sound like your on speaker or in a bathroom or whatever and now he says it sounds like a regular call, plus on 2.15 I was getting like two bars three tops now I'm getting full bars to maybe one less then full at all times.
Thanks

From my experience, I have received better battery life, reception and speed with the .23 radio, since upgraded the spl with haykuro's new one, I have been a bit afraid to downgrade the radio on my phone (running Ion as of today, amazing!). I was wondering if I am the only one who experienced this? And yeah, I did search the forums, however, the thread that was previously up could not be continued as it was no longer a valid link (found the google cache of it).
For those that have tried the .23 radio, what build are you using? Also, can the radio affect applications? I know that from my WinMo days it could, and obviously from our experience with the new spl, it can also in here, but what about the .23 radio with 1.5 ROMs?
What are your experiences with the differences in the sapphire (.23) radio and the newer .26I one? If that thread before was locked or removed and that is the reason why the link is no longer valid, I apologize to the mods and you can lock this thread, I just wanted to continue the discussion on this topic, as if we are getting better reception and battery life from a different radio, why take a step back?

I had the radio 23 on my device and the bluetooth in my car doesn't work with the Dream.. I saw the contacts list, I could receive a call, but I was not able to make a call at all... After upgrading to the new radio everithing goes well, and now bluetooth works correctly! so IMHO the new radio is far better than the old one!
Where to download .23 radio? Links on Haykuros site is not working so there might be some trouble with it?
New radio is great if your in a 3g area I think those of us in EDGE can agree it kills battery very fast I have gone back to .23 radio as I get much better battery life in my EDGE are.
I'm looking around and can't find the .23 radio. Do you have a link?
Here ya go uploaded just for you...

i'm in an EDGE area -- 26I seems to have increased my battery life.
maybe it does different things on different handsets?!
With .23, I was always in 3G but my wifi wont work with .23. With .26, I am always switching back and forth between 3G, edge, and GPRS but wifi works fine. I have both radios on my sd and flash between the two frequently just because I'm not sure which one I like better.

Agreed. .26 always has me switching all the time and it's pretty annoying. Makes the Market a real pain.
I also like .23 A LOT better since it was significantly faster; unfortunately .26I will be required for Hero and it's required for 6.0r1 so I'm stuck with it
It maybe required for hero but I doubt it. It is not in anyway require for 6.01 as I was using 6.01 and went back to 5.02 and im still using older radio.
Based on what I know about radios from PPC side a radio will never be requirement for rom SPL is a whole nother story and radio maybe required to flash certain SPL. Rom should not require certain radio though.

Interesting, though it makes a lot of sense, I don't know why I always thought the two were inclusive. Wasn't there something about the new SPL bricking non .26I phones?

Where in Miami? I get 3G 90% of the time all over Miami (Downtown, Coral Gables, Kendall, West Kendall, South Miami). My only EDGE areas are a little zone between Brickel and Little Havana / Coconut Grove.

I'm in Miami and I get 3G, Edge, etc switching all the time as well. Very disappointed in Tmob down here. It's especially bad around Sunset/87th ave area.
Im in Jupiter and I only get edge and wifi..... :/
I am still running original Cupcake. Is it sufficient to use a Goldcard to flash different Radios? Or do I need Root and/or a different SPL?
I have BT issues with original Cupcake Radio .26I, so need a different Radio.
thx
I've been reading about upgrading my radio version (currently 2.06.51.07), does it really make that much of a difference?
I live in the UK, can anyone recommend a version?
Do I have to use a .51 version? what are the differences if I use a .50?
Thanks.
Send me a plane ticket, come pick me up at your nearest airport, put me up and feed me for a week or two and don't forget to buy me a SIM card for your mobile service provider and I'll happily try out a few radios and tell you what I think of their battery consumption with your provider in your area...

If you read the threads you'll hear only go for a radio with 50 not 51, all rom makers state this.
I've been using a radio 2.12.50 for a couple of weeks and just upgraded my rom and its perfect-clarity is crystal clear and pages load very quick in comparison to original radio
IIRC, flashing the radio depends both on the device and the base rom.
Radios for stock devices
T-MO USA - .50
Other HD2 variants - .51
Again, this is not cast in concrete... I think the radios (.50 & .51) would vary even for stock devices if the base rom has been upgraded.
Bottomline, if you are sticking to a stock rom, check up on what your operator has to offer and don't cheat. That's my best advice. Lot of chaps here have turned their Leo's into bricks because of experimenting with the wrong radio. As of writing this, there is still no fix for it.
If you are switching to a custom rom, then all this becomes moot because the rom chefs always mention which radio is best for their rom.
Thank you "11calcal" and "leepriestenator" for your responses.
"NeoGreendawg" some of us are new to this and I feel your response is not very helpful. Yes I use the search button, yes I read hundreds and hundreds of threads but sometimes you cannot see the wood for the trees, so asking a question is what I thought these forums are for, to help not to slander.
using radio 2.12.50.02_2 and living in the uk also.
this is by far the most energy efficient radio i used in the uk.
i'm not a heavy user and able to use the phone for 3+ days. though it is mentioned that the battery drain is higher than with 2.10 or 2.11 radio's when calling or playing with the phone.
call quality is good and data also good. it is definitely better to upgrade the radio from the stock radio you are using.
hope this helps you.

well, if you watch Nadal when he plays at the Roland Garos, you know how it is. He wins, though.

Calm down... I may have done it with a sarcastic tone, but I was trying to make a point : only someone in your area who's using the same network as you can really tell you whcih radio would suit you best, so you've just got to try a few for yourself and make up your own mind...
Secondly, the Q&A forum is for questions, not this one...
And last but not least, go and look up slander for me and then tell me what was slanderous about my post .
What NeoGreendawg has just said is exactly true, the Radio is personal preference and depends where you live, no advice can be given on which Radio to use, which it does state on the Radio thread, If you not experiencing any trouble there is no need to change.

Yup yup, I have flashed from radio to radio and only really seen little to no difference. I am on 2.11.50.20 and there is really no different to any of the other 5 or so I have tried.
Radio not working at all
On T-mobile*, radio version 2.5 1919.4027, using supplied headphones as antenna.
Thing simply doesn't work. I get the spinning colours for about ten seconds, then it closes. Am I missing something?
*EDIT: Sorry should have said T-mobile in UK.
I bougt T-Mobile HD2 two weeks ago
I have 2 sim cards and I use the primary sim in a Nokia N70
then I decided to switch to my new HD2
then I noticed the crappy signal and that it drops inside my house
while my other sim card from the same carrier working flawlessly on my nokias N70 & 1110 ??
so I tried to Google for a solution and some forums suggested that I flash a new radio....
I know how to flash a radio but I dont know which radio fixes the poor reception problems
so I asking for your experience in this great forum to guide me through this dilemma..
thanks in advance
TMOUS HD2 , using Froyo 2.2 with stock TMOUS Radio: 2.15.50.14
Im afraid its all trial and error, If I were you I'd try the newest one and work backwards....
You'll need to give it a day or two to settle in before you make a decision on if its better or not though.....
Edit
Just noticed you have the newest radio so you might be better starting from 2.08.50 and going up the way...... its pot luck really though.
And seeing as you have a TMOUS I cant help but feel obliged to remind you NEVER to flash a radio with .51. in the name........
2.12.50_02 gives me an excellent reception as well as battery life.
thank you very much
I'll be trying 2.10 and 2.12
and see what happens
I surly hope I wont brick my phone....
Hello everyone, first post here on XDA! About time... that damn search button answered all my questions over the past few months. I've done just about everything you can to this wonderful device, aside from developing. I've been trying to get into developing for android by self-teaching java via books. Sadly, it seems there is a long way to go...
Anyway, I recently moved to an area where reception outside my house is decent but once inside it's toast. For whatever reason I never tried an older radio. My thought was that the newest (2.15.50.14) would be the best (even though i read over and over to try them all!) and many devs recommended it for their rom. So I've come to terms with the fact that I LOVE coredroid v1.7 froyo and I will not have wifi calling on my device. I was bored and figured it was worth a shot to test out some radios. I went through all of the TMOUS radios found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787. Every radio I tested was the same if not worse... EXCEPT 2.14.50.02! The difference isn't dramatic but I'm now able to get one "bar" while downstairs in a split level house which wasn't possible before.
Sooo I remember searching and searching for someone who may have posted their location and which radio worked best for them in that location, hoping it would be near me. Then I started skimming threads just looking for american flags and hoping they had a state and radio listed. Maybe we can get a thread started where everyone can post their specific location and the best working radio for them in that location? Hopefully turning up more search results for someone looking for the radio they may have the best luck with. If not, that's cool... I tried! Thanks all.
Myself:
TMOUS
USA
MASSACHUSETTS
WALTHAM
BEST: 2.14.50.02
RUNNER UP: 2.15.50.14
That was a good idea, too bad it didn't generate more interest.
I'm not sure the location really matters though, the best radio should be the best everywhere?
Currently in Europe and was finding 2.15.50.14 weak (jo signal, dropped signal) so I switched to 2.12.50.02_2 on someone's suggestion, but it's not really better and I sometimes get hard freezes when it reconnects to the network...will try the 2.14.50.02 that seems to work well for you.
In win mobile, it had a default radio. It also had no data dropping. Could this work good for me? Currently, I'm using the radio 2.15.50.##. Please and thank you.

2.15.50.x is what works best for most. most devices are already loaded with it and i personally get best reception, battery life, etc.
one MIGHT want to try 2.12.xx ... i did try it, reception SLIGHTLY better (in my opinion), yet, battery drainage did not justify the VERY slight gain.
My reception is good in 2.15.50, it just drops like every 1 minute for about 10 seconds.
Sent from my LG-VM670 using Tapatalk
2.15.50 had a lot of people complaining about calls dropping.
I have tested all the popular radios for 2 months at a time & in over 8 countries & 12 network providers.
After my tests the best all round radio on WM was 2.12.50.02_2 . no call dropping, good battery life & signal/data connections.
2.15.50.14 is popular with Android users more so than WM .
For more details on 2.15.50 call dropping just do a search, loads of threads on it.
Ill give 2.12 a try. I tried the other radio's like 2.13, 2.14, etc. Had no reception.
Sent from my LG-VM670 using Tapatalk
2.15.50 is the latest and best radio. I use it for a long time now and never had problems ...
I used both 2.12 and 2.15 with Android. I have to say that 2.12 worked the best for me. I noticed better battery life and slightly better reception in really low reception areas. I am on T-Mobile US.

Latest is not always the greatest. 2.15.50 is good for most users but not faultless ... trouble is too many users just like new build numbers ...

Of course you are right that the latest one is not allways the best but for me the latest radio is in this case best.
