last night i was using the native YouTube app on the Xoom and when i would plug in the 3.5 jack from the Xoom in into my beats by Dre boom box my screen would basically become unresponsive or misinterpret all screen interactions
so is it the audio device i'm using , a bug in YouTube/honeycomb, or is it just a bad Xoom?
Try a different audio device.
thats sounds like the issue I have with my og droid when its plugged into my laptop the screen just goes crazy. I would try another headphone and see what happens, my skull candy titans work fine with my xoom
ya it was just my beats by Dre boom box, or possibly the male to male 3.5mm cable I'm using will try when I get home, but did work great with my Bose head phones and my klipsch computer speakers.
Thanks for pointing out the first step of trouble shooting I should have taken
I've had this happen on phones when plugged into chargers sometimes, probably electrical interference. Is the boom box grounded properly?
Or a better question, was your xoom plugged in at the time?
ahhh very good, so tryed it without plugged in and all goofy, plug it in to the xoom charger:confused and youtube worked just fine with the beat box plugged in and playing, same 3.5 cable.
On a different note, I have noticed the xoom has great battery life while I'm using it but, but over night standby kills it.
So last night plugged In the xoom full charged by morning, unplugged and completely powerd off (left at 7:30am, home at 6:00pm) booted it up and was only at 29% battery life. Which really dose not seem right if I can leave my rooted nook color on stand by for a few days and the battery % dosnt seem to take any kinda hit.
Maybe in some wired way these two items maybe linked?

There is definitely something wrong with your setup. I ran a standby test with WiFi on all night (8 hours) and it never dropped below 100%. I was shocked. And no, I did not have the power plugged in. You may have something installed eating your battery.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have mobile data turned off since I do not have Verizon service. Maybe that has something to do with it... dunno.

Hi, came across something strange this morning, when i took my phone off charge ot said 91%, but i always take it off at 100%, so i plugged it back in and now the battery is at 86%. Any ideas people?

I read somewhere that x10 has an auto disconnect function.. if your battery reaches 100% it wont charge further until it drops to 90% i think.. also check if the temperature have gone too high.
dial *#*#4636#*#* and check battery information..
I checked it, temp was 40c :S
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
not only does it not charge if you plug it in when over 90% (unless you power it down, then plug in. it will turn on and charge up to 100%) but it also turns off charging while plugged in. this means if you are listening to music, or streaming something while plugged in it will still lose charge until it hits 89%, then it should start to charge again, or if you plug in over night you could wake up to 90% charge depending on when it hit 100%. this kinda bugs me but i have learned to get around it.
you might have an app running in the background that caused your battery to run low and the temperature to rise. if you installed anything new recently try uninstalling it and see if the charging cycle fixes itself
For me is the same so far...

I noticed something similar go this but at lower power levels.
From a charge (starting around 8%) I found that even while plugged in,me playing with the phone caused it to drain battery faster than it would charge. So I left it alone for a while, then experienced the same issue around 50%.

Same problem here too. :-(

i get the same problem too, but only when using my car charger. if i try to use google maps as a sat nav, the battery drains rather than charges. a real big pain to be honest, means I can't just use the sat nav features of the phone when ever I drive.
hi I also have the same problem however to add in to it also i noticed that battery is not charging they way it use to be i am using the stock charger that came with the phone and i have noticed that since i have updated it to R2ba020 the battery does not charge , i mean earlier i use to get it charged within 4 to 5 hours and now it just get like 40% charged in the same time.
anyone has any idea.
I am experiencing the same issue. sometimes the phone charges very slowly. And as soon as it reaches the 90% mark the LED turns green, the status says charging(AC), battery icon has that charging mark on it. but it does not charge any further, rather the battery starts draining. Once the charging went upto 93%, but thats the best it got so far. I guess it has somethng to do aith the battery temperture. what is the temperature limit if any one knows.
Okay... starting to get really agitated at the battery now. Charged it overnight for over 8 hours, and woke up to my phone at 72%. That's just inexcusable for any cell phone, smartphone or not.

Do ypu guys think it could be the 020 rom? has anyone checked if the 023 update is avaliable from seus? Ill try it tomorrow. But tbh this is really bugging me now, great phone yet there is always an issue......:'(

yesterday I charged it through USB. at 90% it stopped charging and started draining. unpluged the phone and repluged it after 5 minutes and it started charging and this time it went all the way to 100%. today I charged it through AC and it chrged to 100%. I think its working OK now. The only difference is that i installed Battery Indicator from market, but am not sure if that solved the issue.
I have the same issue with my phone after updating to the 020 firmware.
It will charge to a certain point and the power will drop off after that. It will never reach MAX.
This is Bad.
Not sure if it's related, but I upgraded to R2BA020 (Rogers) this weekend, and now whenever I tether via PdaNet my battery drains at quite an accelerated rate (15-20%/hour). Under the stock Rogers ROM this wasn't the case, and though the battery would drain while tethered (more power usage than was gaining through USB charging), it would be around 3-5%/hour.
I checked and the phone is receiving what appears to be a proper charge via USB, but I'm not sure if it fills to full or not.
It almost seems to me like 020 messed up how much capacity the phone sees the battery as holding. I did fully discharge the phone last night.
I'm using the 023 rom now. Completely skipped over the 020 rom so I can't compare the two, but in my experience, the 023 rom rooted seems to drain more battery than the 014 stock rom.

I have the same issue but i tracked down the problem.... its something to do with the usb socket on the phone i think.... When i plug it in sometimes starts charging sometimes it doesn't... but if i push the usb cable gently a little more in it starts charging again.... i think the usb socket is a little to big... and cable doesn't stay in place... most of the time if i touch the phone or the cable while charging it stops right away so I think I'm right....

If that's the case you'll want to RMA the phone. It's not normal.
I had that happen with my old iPAQ 910c. Eventually, it wouldn't charge at all as the USB port had become so loose. At that point I had the phone replaced by my carrier.
the socket is not loose its just too big i think ... doesn't move at all...
As of this morning my TF nor the dock will charge from the charger. I suspect the charger itself is damaged somehow but I cannot find anything physically wrong with it from the outside.
EDIT: Weird, after the 20th time playing with it, taking it apart, reseating the USB cord, etc, it finally started charging again after hours of aggravation. Hopefully it stays that way....
I'm thinking the inner pins somehow lost contact with the interposer. I've also noticed that the adapter gets alarmingly warm when charging. As in it's hotter than the PSU I use for my Alienware m17x R2, which is almost hot enough to give a mild burn.
My charger gets pretty warm as well. I think because its charging the device at such a fast pace.
Takes twice as long to charge my phone than the transformer!

Yeah I'm just hoping this whole thing doesn't keep happening. Had the charger on the dock for a while before I realized it wasn't charging since there's no indicator other than the LED. I'm just glad I got the dern thinking working again. Figures it would get fixed not 5 minutes after I post here and send a ticket in to Asus.
I wonder if cutting a few vents on the charger or at least blowing some air with a fan might help. Perhaps there is a thermal protection shutdown circuit.
there are several threads about this here one;

i had the same problem, not had it since, something is definitively happening with the charger, changing sockets seemed to help
My charger actually died on me. It doesnt charge at all anymore with the included charger. I can still use the cable to charge off of USB, but that is sloooow. I bought an iPad charger (2 amp) and it charges a bit faster. At least I can still use my tablet until a replacement charger is available.
Just FYI I was told by Asus CS a replacement would not be available for awhile, and they wouldn't RMA the charger by itself.
Sounds like many of the charger problem is the contact between the country plug adapter and the charger itself. First thing I would do if it stopped charging is remove the country plug adapter , clean contacts and reinstall. Sometimes in the process of plugging in or removing the charger, you move contacts enough to either make or break the connection.
Loses charge significantly on standby
I left it on standby last night @ about 70pc. When i turn it on this AM, it is at 20pc Any workarounds?

Standby and off are very different states. In standby, it's STILL RUNNING. If you leave the WiFi on, it's still communicating over the network. Applications are still running in the background.
I did a test recently (right before I got my dock). I left the TF in 'standby' with WiFi on (turned off the sound) and went to sleep. About 9 hours later, the battery was down around 50%.
Next day I did the same, but I turned off WiFi. Battery ended up still being above 90%.
The workaround is turning it off. Disabling WiFi reduces battery consumption in standby, but it does not eliminate it.
And for the 'stopped charging from the AC adapter' issue, it seems that unplugging the adapter from the wall for a while seems to reset the charger.

Which part do you think is a problem with Honeycomb instead of Asus?
The dock issues or the power supply not charging? How can the OS be responsible for either? (save for driver issues with the keyboard, which Asus fixed with an update)
I actually had this happen to me, but reassembling the charger didn't fix it for me. I ended up restoring to fix it. Haven't had any issues since.
I had the same problem. Did as stated above... Left charger unplugged for 20-25 minutes, then gave it a try and now it's back to charging... All good.
Information of PSU model with known fault here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081435
Possibly a related issue? My Transformer is now not charging although I believe either my cable is faulty or the connector to the tablet itself. I don't have my official Asus charger with me today so I plugged it into another USB power charger and I get nothing. When I plug the cable into my computer the Transformer does show up as a device in Windows however there is still no charging.
I installed/flashed Gingerblur yesterday and it was working fine for the whole day. At night, I put it back into it's case because I'm still waiting for my New Screen Protector and Case to come. I take really good care of it. Then I did not use the phone for the whole day. After having a really bad day, I started up my brand new Atrix for some fun and it was already at around 5% battery left so I went ahead and tried to charge it. I noticed plugging it into the computer did not work, so I tried wall charging it and that also did not work.
To sum it up,
Symptoms:
-Green Led for 2-3 seconds when I hold down the top main button then shuts off led. Note: Only happens/works if the phone is plugged into the wall.
-Green Led for 4 or more seconds if I plug in wall charger then shuts off led.
-No visual image on screen after battery drained out at all.
What can I do? I don't think I bricked it since it was working perfectly yesterday. Is there anything I can do? I have tried removing battery with no avail, it is plugged in to the wall charger still for the past hour.
This is a very weird problem and I don't know the exact answer..I just know i bricked my atrix before (failed to flash on a full battery) and couldn't charge the dead battery even on AC.
I ended up buying a universal battery charger from radioshack and then returning it once I got my battery fully charged and flashed the rom. Haven't had any battery problems since.
Hope this helps
Thanks, I will try this but it is night time right now. I hope someone else has had experience of this before and can guide me to any other directions.
I did not fail a flash, unless the flash can fail even if Gingerblur was working 100% before it failed. I don't know if thats possible.
Are you using the usb cable/charger that came with the phone?
I know it sounds ridiculous but the phone does NOT charge on any of my existing MicroUSB cables or wall chargers (used to have a nexus one). Pretty bummed about that :/
Yeah I am using the one that came with it.
I also want to update that I've tried my sister's HTC Inspire charger and an old Samsung charger I have left around.
Both are USB to wall Adapters (I am not using the same wall power adapter for each charger) so I wonder if I need the one that plugs directly into the wall?
Yeah, you probably just have a dysfunctional battery or charger, either way, you're going to have to diagnose which one is the problem (fingers crossed that it isn't the phone)
/e:
it sounds like its not the charger, from your most recent post.
I think your phone is the problem, it's not processing how to charge the battery from the cable.
Common problem. You need at least 850mA to charge the phone, so older usb ports wont work. The wall charger is actually working. Pull the battery out, put it back in, plug in the wall charger(don't press any buttons!) and let it sit for about 30min to get a decent charge. Should boot up after that.

Hm, it's been charging for over an hour now and still hasn't turned on. But I did not do it exactly as you said. I unplugged the battery acouple times but I always try to hold the "fingerprint" on button right after plugging it in. I'll try not pressing anything this time. Thanks, I'll post back if I get any results.
The phone should turn on if charging, you don't need 850mA either. Standard USB is 500 and it just charges slower. I know this for a fact as I just charged it like that.
Take it into a store or contact where you bought it from.
Plugging in phone while off: Green LED for a bit, moto logo, battery icon
Power on, no charger : green light for a bit longer, moto logo, boot animation.
Try an at&t stores charger and see if theyll let you charge the battery.

With a dead battery you need 850 mAH. The phone needs 850 mA ti boot and it needs to boot to charge (strange yes but software controls the charge).
I would suggest trying all the chargers you can (the Moto one may be giving you to little amps) and if that does not work you can try to either 1) make a dev cable (post on how to in the dev section, though it requires soldering and such so you may not be able to do it if you don't have supplies) or 2) get a charger for the battery (one to directly charge the battery vice through the phone).
The battery method did not work, I did not try to hold the main button until 1 hour later to no avail. I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow for a replacement.
Edit: Oops..Too late to the party! I had the same issue that was fixed when I used a good quality micro-usb charger!
850ma? You sure?
I've charged and booted my phone from dead on a 700ma charger and 500ma usb on numerous occasions.
U need not worry .. put it in a wall charger .. and let it sit dere for atleast an hour .. the green led will come up when charge level reaches around 50% or more .. be patient ..

I had the exact same issue the other day. I forgot to put my phone on charge at night, and it was dead in the morning. I plugged into the wall with my Moto charger, the phone turned on and went right to CWM. I rebooted from there, the phone showed 5% battery level, and within 10-15 minutes was at 20%.
I thought it strange my phone went right to the old Tenfar CWM even though I uninstalled it after unlocking my phone and installing the latest CWM from Tenfar.
It does seem that the shut off with the battery is 5%. I am assuming this is the safety factor built into either the Android OS, or the batteries themselves, as they do have circuits in them much like mini computers to shut them off before 100% discharge, as this will kill a Lithium Ion battery.
Some simple facts regarding the Lithium Ion batteries:
•They start degrading as soon as they leave the factory. They will only last two or three years from the date of manufacture whether you use them or not.
•They are extremely sensitive to high temperatures. Heat causes lithium-ion battery packs to degrade much faster than they normally would.
•If you completely discharge a lithium-ion battery, it is ruined.
•A lithium-ion battery pack must have an on-board computer to manage the battery. This makes them even more expensive than they already are.
•There is a small chance that, if a lithium-ion battery pack fails, it will burst into flame.
What I would like to know is why some people have problems getting a charge back in the Atrix after a complete discharge. There I was at 20% after 10-15 minutes using the Moto wall charger, while other people can't even get their phones to turn on after an hour on the wall charger.
I have the same problem, tried everything and finally found a solution
Get a warranty replacement.
The phone won't turn on, so they don't know what you did to it.
Got my new phone today, popped the dead battery in and voila, it charges !
Sometimes it's like people say, it's because of the charge, but your phone probably have issue, just get a replacement
I let it charge all night and it still has the same symptoms. Going to Best Buy in an hour when it opens.
When I get my new phone, should I Gingerblur it again or am I going to face this same issue? Was this software related or hardware?
Gingerblur was relatively easy to do, but I don't want to risk killing my phone a second time.
UPDATE: Got a replacement phone. Complementing whether I want to Gingerblur it again because that's the only thing that could have caused the battery issue other than it being hardware related.

You can always use their phone and your "dead battery" and visa versa theirs into your phone. Then if same issue happens. Just warranty the phone. If your in warranty do it. I've had g1's for no reason not charge. Led says it, os says it, yet NONE of my working batteries were getting any charge off the phone. Especially when the phone was 3 days old. Warranty.... if its free do it.

Yes if warranty then ok .. But we are here to do the impossible.. I just reconditioned a new battery just so it can turn phone on in same instance for a friend. So yes batteries and phones new can have charging issues.
There is an issue with smart-phones and batteries and has been since day one. If you are here then evidently you either love these phones and want to mod them or you are like me and love playing with electronics. Real simple if you in the smart-phone world there are a few rules of thumb..
1.) Never begin working without a fully charged battery (some say 51% or better I say 100% )
2.) Buy , borrow , get an external battery charger and/or stronger wall charger
3.) Extra batteries are always good.
4.) Read the damn stickies and wiki's ... People have taken plenty of time creating them. Those who know me know I have written some myself.
5.) The biggest problem is located between the chair and the keyboard .... (lol)
I have a strange phenomenon. My battery only lasts a day so I plug it in every night. Yesterday, it was completely dead and I needed to use the black and red wire trick from a cut USB cord to charge the battery.
Everything was fine when I reinserted the battery and last night when I plugged it in the amber light came on ie it was charging and the little battery indicator said it was charging too. I turned the screen off, amber light was still on and I went to bed. This morning, I came downstairs to find the phone absolutely dead again.
I noticed the middle pin was bent forwards and have seen posts saying that this can be an issue, but I have not taken my battery out for at least a week so I am wondering if the middle pin really is the problem? I have straightened the middle pin and will try again.
Does anybody know if it could be anything else?
possibly as simple as a dead cell? ?? seeing as youve had to resort to the usb trick.
What kind of charger are you using? Usually when i use a non htc charger it doesnt work because it doesnt have enough current to charge it while its on. Maybe its the charger?
cmacia06 - its the standard HTC charger that came in the box. Also, which ICS Rom are you running and is it fully functional and worth un upgrade to yet?
Your might also want to check the pins to the battery compartment and make sure that they makeing good contact. Im running spartstars ics 1.4. It seems to be very smooth and little buggs. I guess the only real issue is thr camera not working. But other than that the rom is great. Just no flash player or youtube yet.

Pretty sure in order to charge via regular USB you have to have the tablet powered down. And it would be a slow charge.

And it is slow, but it does charge.
The user manual states that the tablet does not charge via USB while turned on.
The truth is that it does charge with the screen on, but like others say, it's excruciatingly slow. Think 10% every two hours at best.

The real issue is that recent tablets consume more energy than what the USB ports can provide. Check this wikipedia page, and consider this:
The following "benchmark" (vaguely speaking) were done while driving, using the same power source (cigarette plug to USB converter, outputs 1.0 A):
- I had an HTC Hero (Single core, ~520 MHz) which could be charged with any work load on the phone (gps on with Maps/Navigation, while talking and using data while using the CPU at 100%). At worst it was simply charging slowly. Usually I had no issues with charging speed
- When I switched to a Galaxy S2 (Dual-core 1.2-1.4 GHz), I noticed I couldnt use Navigation (implying GPS here) and playback streamed MP3s over 3G anymore and expect the phone to be charged in the process. Over a ~1:15h drive, a fully charged phone lost ~15% if not more of battery charge.
My first big GS2 trip was one where I did the whole thing over Naviation with GPS in car, with local MP3 being played back. I had to pick up somebody when I had done 3 hours of driving, and I noticed that somehow I had around 50% battery left, and I made sure it was fully charged before leaving. Later the same day, I had more Navigation and GPS usage coming up (an additional 7 hours trip). So I used only Navigation/GPS, to attempt charging, and I could get it back from 30% to 70-80%.
Mind you, that was over a STOCK Samsung Android installation, maybe that wasnt optimized for battery consumption!
Even though I dont have any spec numbers and such, it's only normal that your quad-core tegra 3 can't be charged over USB. That being said, with the screen off and the tablet idle, you can still charge the tablet (like others mentioned), since apparently there is an additional, slower but less power hungry core being actively used while the tablet doesn't have alot of things to process. Read this wikipedia article.
EDIT: I am also often in either fastboot or recovery mode on my TF300 these days, and after a few hours "idle" in either recovery or fastboot, I noticed the battery indicator was in the 75-80% range the next time I booted Android... and thats with the device plugged in the whole time! My guess is that recovery/fastboot doesn't use (or recognize) that additional low power core. Either way, sorry for my ramblings, and mods, sorry for my over 9000 edits

I am travelling for 6 weeks very soon and my TF300t is my source of interaction with the world..
Only issue i have is, it doesn't charge via usb unless its plugged in via wall..
The planes support USB but it's not much use if i can't charge my tablet whilst watching a movie..
Anyone got any suggestions to get around this problem?

I think this is explained in the manual that came with the tablet. Might want to refer there!
