Battery drains when charging - XPERIA X10 General

Hi, came across something strange this morning, when i took my phone off charge ot said 91%, but i always take it off at 100%, so i plugged it back in and now the battery is at 86%. Any ideas people?

I read somewhere that x10 has an auto disconnect function.. if your battery reaches 100% it wont charge further until it drops to 90% i think.. also check if the temperature have gone too high.
dial *#*#4636#*#* and check battery information..

I checked it, temp was 40c :S

not only does it not charge if you plug it in when over 90% (unless you power it down, then plug in. it will turn on and charge up to 100%) but it also turns off charging while plugged in. this means if you are listening to music, or streaming something while plugged in it will still lose charge until it hits 89%, then it should start to charge again, or if you plug in over night you could wake up to 90% charge depending on when it hit 100%. this kinda bugs me but i have learned to get around it.
you might have an app running in the background that caused your battery to run low and the temperature to rise. if you installed anything new recently try uninstalling it and see if the charging cycle fixes itself

For me is the same so far...

I noticed something similar go this but at lower power levels.
From a charge (starting around 8%) I found that even while plugged in,me playing with the phone caused it to drain battery faster than it would charge. So I left it alone for a while, then experienced the same issue around 50%.

Same problem here too. :-(

i get the same problem too, but only when using my car charger. if i try to use google maps as a sat nav, the battery drains rather than charges. a real big pain to be honest, means I can't just use the sat nav features of the phone when ever I drive.

hi I also have the same problem however to add in to it also i noticed that battery is not charging they way it use to be i am using the stock charger that came with the phone and i have noticed that since i have updated it to R2ba020 the battery does not charge , i mean earlier i use to get it charged within 4 to 5 hours and now it just get like 40% charged in the same time.
anyone has any idea.

I am experiencing the same issue. sometimes the phone charges very slowly. And as soon as it reaches the 90% mark the LED turns green, the status says charging(AC), battery icon has that charging mark on it. but it does not charge any further, rather the battery starts draining. Once the charging went upto 93%, but thats the best it got so far. I guess it has somethng to do aith the battery temperture. what is the temperature limit if any one knows.

Okay... starting to get really agitated at the battery now. Charged it overnight for over 8 hours, and woke up to my phone at 72%. That's just inexcusable for any cell phone, smartphone or not.

Do ypu guys think it could be the 020 rom? has anyone checked if the 023 update is avaliable from seus? Ill try it tomorrow. But tbh this is really bugging me now, great phone yet there is always an issue......:'(

yesterday I charged it through USB. at 90% it stopped charging and started draining. unpluged the phone and repluged it after 5 minutes and it started charging and this time it went all the way to 100%. today I charged it through AC and it chrged to 100%. I think its working OK now. The only difference is that i installed Battery Indicator from market, but am not sure if that solved the issue.

I have the same issue with my phone after updating to the 020 firmware.
It will charge to a certain point and the power will drop off after that. It will never reach MAX.
This is Bad.

Not sure if it's related, but I upgraded to R2BA020 (Rogers) this weekend, and now whenever I tether via PdaNet my battery drains at quite an accelerated rate (15-20%/hour). Under the stock Rogers ROM this wasn't the case, and though the battery would drain while tethered (more power usage than was gaining through USB charging), it would be around 3-5%/hour.
I checked and the phone is receiving what appears to be a proper charge via USB, but I'm not sure if it fills to full or not.
It almost seems to me like 020 messed up how much capacity the phone sees the battery as holding. I did fully discharge the phone last night.

I'm using the 023 rom now. Completely skipped over the 020 rom so I can't compare the two, but in my experience, the 023 rom rooted seems to drain more battery than the 014 stock rom.

I have the same issue but i tracked down the problem.... its something to do with the usb socket on the phone i think.... When i plug it in sometimes starts charging sometimes it doesn't... but if i push the usb cable gently a little more in it starts charging again.... i think the usb socket is a little to big... and cable doesn't stay in place... most of the time if i touch the phone or the cable while charging it stops right away so I think I'm right....

If that's the case you'll want to RMA the phone. It's not normal.
I had that happen with my old iPAQ 910c. Eventually, it wouldn't charge at all as the USB port had become so loose. At that point I had the phone replaced by my carrier.

the socket is not loose its just too big i think ... doesn't move at all...

Severe charging issue!!

So I started charging my phone earlier and it took forever, and the phone got very hot, but I didn't think more of it and unplugged it. Then it dropped under 15% and I decided to charge it again. It's been in the charger for 30 minutes and it's only gone from 9% to 10%...
Am I the only one with this problem? =S
Edit: It still gets very warm.
Turn it off and on?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I was sort of hoping it went without saying that I had done that.
I've also tried:
Charging it through my PC
Charging it through the wall charger
Both give the same result as listed in the first post. Also tried removing everything (battery, simcard, mem.card) and reinserting it.
Still it gets very warm and charges almost nothing! =S
Are you using a different USB cable or charger than the one provided?
I have tried several different USB > Micro cables and not all of them have worked properly.
My old BB wall charger works fine, as does my old Motorola one (both plug a USB cable into), but wife's iPhone one does not.
I really don't think that's the problem... I finally got it up to 100% with the wall charger, but when I restarted it after having reinserted the MicroSD, it had dropped 13%. In a few seconds, does not make any sense =S
Night time here now though, so gonna see how much it loses in just standby, if it's a lot I'll try reinstalling the update. But this seems to be an isolated issue?
I noticed that charging it with the wall charger is at least 3 times faster.
Also, you're right, the phone can get really hot while charging and at some point it even stops charging when it's too hot , it happens easier when charging using a computer since the charge takes more time, the only thing that helped in my case was to remove the battery cover and blow some air on the battery
The problem sin't that it charges SLOWER, it charges about the same for both, currently. The problem is that it hardly charges at all...
Also, it was at 100%, then dropped to 87% just with me turning it off, reinserting the memory card and turning it on again.
I went to bed at 2am last night, then it had 87% battery. When I woke up at 9am, it was dead.
your battery is faulty
email SE telling them your battery wont charge but that your friends/spare/new battery does charge when in your phone (to rule out the usb fault that some x10's had) and then they should send you one out.

[Q] Help! Battery won't charge

Need some feedback, any one has had a bad battery yet? I had mine charging up to 85% yesterday and went back to bed thinking that today (sunday) morning will wake up and do some early stuff but I woke up late and had a dead Streak next to me. I left it charging overnight (I know it was only 15%) but you never know when you're going to need that extra juice. I tried turning it on, no luck, took the batt out tried turning on with only the mains plugged in, no go, I had blinking LEDS for a short moment then it turned off and that was it until I decided to jump start the phone (I don't recommend doing this to no one) with a BB Bold Battery (3.7V 1500mAh) all of a sudden I get the battery with exclamation mark, like I had a dead battery, I've only had the device for 2 weeks, also this is a Beta Unit I bought "AS-IS" but the problem was a simple restore and not the battery. now I manage to charge the battery in a raw way, just hot wired into a 4.2v DC. now the big question...
I'm at 40% battery it is draining very little, I would even say it is under normal operation, but i can't tell I don't have a SIM on it ATM. but I checked on "spare parts" to see status of the battery and it all seems ok but the bit that says BATTERY STATUS: discharging
No matter where I plugged the wire it is discharging, the phone is being detected on windows/mac any computer I plug, the phone does detect where the source is coming it says AC when I plug into the charger that came with, if I plug it into the USB of the computer it does says USB but it will never say charging, I even transfered files to the phone to test the wire, seems to me I have a crappy battery but just need more feedback, anyone has had this problem before? on any phone should I call Michael Dell and order another batt?
P.S. I have a BB Javelin had the same problem did jump started the battery and now the mobile is charging no probs and it DOES hold charge.
UPDATE: Ok guys any of you running 2.1 (8105) on your USA Beta (probably regular too) and have this issue about not charging, I went back to 1.6 (4399) issue is gone, I also had the crazy screen couldn't unlock/answer phone, will see if that is gone too, more than likely it is but I'm not 100% sure.
if it wont charge using usb or mains but only by jump starting it, then the streaks charging circuit is most probably f***ed.

Charging issues.

I've noticed that when I leave the phone plugged in overnight it sometimes just seems to stop charging at a random point somewhere throughout the night and I'll wake up with a phone that is only at 80%, 65%, etc.. battery. It isn't fully charging and then just being drained again either, it just randomly stops charging. It will recognize that a charger is plugged in and even says that it is charging but the percentage indicator in the Settings pulldown doesn't move. This doesn't happen every night and it has never happened when I charge the phone during the day. I assume it only happens at night because I'm not at my desk using it. I can also assume that the device isn't taking 8 hours to go from 35% battery to 75%, it doesn't charge that slowly. Any ideas?

I'll give it a shot. Thank you.
I tried it with a different cable last night and it did the same thing. Forgot to mention I'm charging it through my computer.

I would try the charging cable that came with it and if it still does the same thing I would say you have a problem with your phone.

Yeah, I have been using the cable that came with it. I've tried two different ones. I will try to see if it happens when charged through wall outlet.
Sorry for double post. Couldn't figure out how to attach image to an edit.
I looked at my battery settings and this is what I noticed. It looks like my phone is charging all the way up during the evening and then draining but the charging isn't kicking back or something. The huge gap in screen on time was when I was sleeping and there was no use of the device but battery is steadily draining.

As stated in previous post, I have not. That is the plan when I get home.
I have tried it through the wall charger for the past few nights and it charged just fine. I also tried it through the same cable that my N7 and Gnex were charged with and it still happened. I also tried various USB ports. Any ideas?

Is it possible the computer is sleeping and no longer powering the USB ports?
I had exactly the same problem for one night.
But it can't be a problem with my Notebook because
my Galaxy S charged just fine.
Probably due to power saving options on your computer, be they USB power saving settings or sleep related. If you want to charge faster you should definitely use the wall charger, USB charging is painfully slow for me... if i am using the device, load can exceed the incoming current and the phone will still discharge. Moral of the story > USB charging = useless.

It really isn't a matter of slow charging. I'm charging it overnight so the speed at which it charges doesn't matter to me. As long as it is charged when I wake up. I've been using the same computer to charge my phones/tablets/cameras for two years and I've never had a problem. I'm not even using the device though, it is at night when I'm sleeping.
I have the same problem all of a sudden. Happened twice in the past week, never happened for months before. I never charge from a computer, always with the provided adapter and cable from the wall. A few hours into the night, before the phone is at 100% (varies from 70-90%), it just stops charging. Battery graph looks very similar to the one in this thread already posted.
I wonder which device switches the current off, the phone, or the wall adapter. I would have guessed the phone, and if that is correct swapping the wall adapter won't do anything.
Or you can use Fast Charge from Google Play and flash Franco Kernel.
Then you'll be able to switch from USB Charge to AC Charge by charging with your computer.
However, the battery will heat and you may consume its life, so do not do that too often, only when necessary if you expect using your phone very long times as i do, i just change phone every 5 years or more, depending of my needs.
Also, i noticed than USB Charging slowing down the charge at around 80%, but still charging, i read with Battery Monitor Widget, and i seen it will gives minus ampere.
I almost forgot, you may also calibrate your battery, the first time, charge it to 100%, then remove the file "batterystats.bin" from /data/system or wipe it threw Recovery, that will ensure you to use your battery to 100% next time.
Mine seems to stop charging at 100% and go back down also. Mine usually is between 95-100% when I wake up though. Is that just how this phone works to protect the battery? I've never noticed this in any other phone I've had.

Charging issue

There seems to be a bug, where if i leave the phone connected overnight on the stock charger and wifi is off when i wake up the battery is at 80% or less. My theory is that as soon as it reaches 100% it stops charging, has anyone experienced this?
Here is a screenshot of battery settings

Isn't this why SBC kernels came to be popular

This is happening to me as well; I've come to believe it's a faulty charger, actually. Or a charger designed that way. But the charger's fault regardless.
First occasionally, but now for a few nights in a row, I've found a phone plugged in overnight to be at 80% battery in the morning. When I look at the battery graph, it appears to have charged rapidly to 100% (or close-to), then started slowly discharging. However, with the battery use screen open, I also noticed that the status was rapidly changing between "Charging (AC)" and "Not charging", spending most of the time in the not charging state, despite a constant plugged-in icon in the notification area. This behavior persists regardless of wifi state and through many reboots; BUT, it hasn't happened at all yet (with just limited testing) when plugging it in through the adapter for my last phone (an HTC), nor does it happen when charging via USB. I don't know if the LG charger could be designed that way, where it stops when it's full, or if it's just a faulty unit that needs replacing. I'm going to try it on the HTC wall unit overnight tonight to see what happens.

I'm actually having a similar problem... For me I noticed that the screen stays on while the battery is discharging while on AC charging mode so it may be a different issue. It doesn't always happen but when it does, I'll be sitting around 75% when I wake up in the morning.

Just checking in - a few days later, it hasn't happened yet using the HTC charger.

Turns out this is caused by using a USB extension cable... it would say the phone is charging on AC but there would not be enough current going through. When I plugged the the stock usb cable in to the charger directly, it charged fine.

[Q] Battery sometimes not charging/ draining on charger connected

Hello, it has been happening to me for last 2 days that when I put the phone on charger, the battery sometimes charges at an extremely slow rate (14% to 23% in 1.5 hrs), and sometimes it even discharges while the charger is connected. I am attaching the battery screen here.
You can see that first it goes down from 100 during morning to evening. This is normal behavior owing to my usage. Then I charged it and up goes the curve with a high angle because I use a good charger. This is also fine. Then I disconnect and heavily use the phone again and then put the phone on charger overnight. This is where the problem starts!
Now you see, first of all the battery starts going up then it suddenly starts dropping while still on charger. I woke up to find 23% battery after charging overnight. I noticed in the screenshot that my phone was constantly waking up all night long, may be this could have been the problem. So I connected it to charger again to see the battery level rising in front of my eyes. But again, after 3 hours I found that my battery is 51% and the curve has started to fall down again, and this time there were not enough wakeups.wakelocks.
I am using a powerful charger. It is made in china but it charges all the phones in my home perfectly. I also tried on another charger (also probably china) with the same results on my phone only.
I am using the stock rom, unrooted (can't root version 182.*.*.*)
Do you have thinks running in the background while you charge? Mines charges a lot faster if I turn off internet, kill background apps.
Also is it overheating while chsrgeing? You get a better charge if the phone stays cool
And third your phone might think the charger is a computer. I say this because mines charges really sloe when I connect it to a computer, like 12% per hour. Try a third charger, diffrent brand and wattage compared to the ones yoive tried. it might help.
yes there are background apps but there hasn't been a change which triggered this. the background have worked fine before.
no overheating issue. in fact, this device always feels cooler.
I've always used this charger, my whole family uses it without any issue but now the problem just started happening to me. and even with me the problem is not constant. I just charged up to 50% without any problem. there is one thing left to try. that is, I should try to restart in safe mode and try charging in that mode. if that works fine then it's definitely an app, otherwise the issue may be bigger.
