[INFO] Asus No Longer Charging! - Eee Pad Transformer General

As of this morning my TF nor the dock will charge from the charger. I suspect the charger itself is damaged somehow but I cannot find anything physically wrong with it from the outside.
EDIT: Weird, after the 20th time playing with it, taking it apart, reseating the USB cord, etc, it finally started charging again after hours of aggravation. Hopefully it stays that way....
I'm thinking the inner pins somehow lost contact with the interposer. I've also noticed that the adapter gets alarmingly warm when charging. As in it's hotter than the PSU I use for my Alienware m17x R2, which is almost hot enough to give a mild burn.

My charger gets pretty warm as well. I think because its charging the device at such a fast pace.
Takes twice as long to charge my phone than the transformer!

Yeah I'm just hoping this whole thing doesn't keep happening. Had the charger on the dock for a while before I realized it wasn't charging since there's no indicator other than the LED. I'm just glad I got the dern thinking working again. Figures it would get fixed not 5 minutes after I post here and send a ticket in to Asus.

I wonder if cutting a few vents on the charger or at least blowing some air with a fan might help. Perhaps there is a thermal protection shutdown circuit.

there are several threads about this here one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042868
i had the same problem, not had it since, something is definitively happening with the charger, changing sockets seemed to help

My charger actually died on me. It doesnt charge at all anymore with the included charger. I can still use the cable to charge off of USB, but that is sloooow. I bought an iPad charger (2 amp) and it charges a bit faster. At least I can still use my tablet until a replacement charger is available.
Just FYI I was told by Asus CS a replacement would not be available for awhile, and they wouldn't RMA the charger by itself.

Sounds like many of the charger problem is the contact between the country plug adapter and the charger itself. First thing I would do if it stopped charging is remove the country plug adapter , clean contacts and reinstall. Sometimes in the process of plugging in or removing the charger, you move contacts enough to either make or break the connection.

Loses charge significantly on standby
I left it on standby last night @ about 70pc. When i turn it on this AM, it is at 20pc Any workarounds?

Standby and off are very different states. In standby, it's STILL RUNNING. If you leave the WiFi on, it's still communicating over the network. Applications are still running in the background.
I did a test recently (right before I got my dock). I left the TF in 'standby' with WiFi on (turned off the sound) and went to sleep. About 9 hours later, the battery was down around 50%.
Next day I did the same, but I turned off WiFi. Battery ended up still being above 90%.
The workaround is turning it off. Disabling WiFi reduces battery consumption in standby, but it does not eliminate it.
And for the 'stopped charging from the AC adapter' issue, it seems that unplugging the adapter from the wall for a while seems to reset the charger.

I feel this is a shortcoming of honeycomb than asus. hopefully this gets fixed in a future update. Havent seen this behavior in any other mobile device.

Which part do you think is a problem with Honeycomb instead of Asus?
The dock issues or the power supply not charging? How can the OS be responsible for either? (save for driver issues with the keyboard, which Asus fixed with an update)

I actually had this happen to me, but reassembling the charger didn't fix it for me. I ended up restoring to fix it. Haven't had any issues since.

I had the same problem. Did as stated above... Left charger unplugged for 20-25 minutes, then gave it a try and now it's back to charging... All good.

Information of PSU model with known fault here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081435

Possibly a related issue? My Transformer is now not charging although I believe either my cable is faulty or the connector to the tablet itself. I don't have my official Asus charger with me today so I plugged it into another USB power charger and I get nothing. When I plug the cable into my computer the Transformer does show up as a device in Windows however there is still no charging.

Severe charging issue!!

So I started charging my phone earlier and it took forever, and the phone got very hot, but I didn't think more of it and unplugged it. Then it dropped under 15% and I decided to charge it again. It's been in the charger for 30 minutes and it's only gone from 9% to 10%...
Am I the only one with this problem? =S
Edit: It still gets very warm.
Turn it off and on?

I was sort of hoping it went without saying that I had done that.
I've also tried:
Charging it through my PC
Charging it through the wall charger
Both give the same result as listed in the first post. Also tried removing everything (battery, simcard, mem.card) and reinserting it.
Still it gets very warm and charges almost nothing! =S
Are you using a different USB cable or charger than the one provided?
I have tried several different USB > Micro cables and not all of them have worked properly.
My old BB wall charger works fine, as does my old Motorola one (both plug a USB cable into), but wife's iPhone one does not.
I really don't think that's the problem... I finally got it up to 100% with the wall charger, but when I restarted it after having reinserted the MicroSD, it had dropped 13%. In a few seconds, does not make any sense =S
Night time here now though, so gonna see how much it loses in just standby, if it's a lot I'll try reinstalling the update. But this seems to be an isolated issue?
I noticed that charging it with the wall charger is at least 3 times faster.
Also, you're right, the phone can get really hot while charging and at some point it even stops charging when it's too hot , it happens easier when charging using a computer since the charge takes more time, the only thing that helped in my case was to remove the battery cover and blow some air on the battery
The problem sin't that it charges SLOWER, it charges about the same for both, currently. The problem is that it hardly charges at all...
Also, it was at 100%, then dropped to 87% just with me turning it off, reinserting the memory card and turning it on again.
I went to bed at 2am last night, then it had 87% battery. When I woke up at 9am, it was dead.
your battery is faulty
email SE telling them your battery wont charge but that your friends/spare/new battery does charge when in your phone (to rule out the usb fault that some x10's had) and then they should send you one out.

[Q] DroidX will only sustain charge level, but not charge up!

I am trying to figure out why my DroidX will not charge fully all of the sudden. I plugged it in yesterday to a wall charger for about 2 hours when the battery was at 50%, can back after 2hrs, and it was still at 50% even though it showed the charging icon the whole time. I rebooted it, and plggeed it into my computer's USB port, and set the USB option to "Charge only". Came back this morning, after it sat there for 6 hours and same thing - it is just maintaining the current battery level, but not charging it higher.
I have only owned it for a week, and the only change between now and when it was charging properly was that I installed a wireless tethering app, however, that runs on demand, and it has not been open or running. WiFi and GPS are also completely turned off.
Anyone else experienced this? I assume unless I keep it plugged in 24/7 now, it will eventually die all the way down!!
p.s. - I also tried letting it charge while it was completely powered off, but same thing. Shows that it is charging but just maintains current level.

this is not normal ,while in the wall charger it should charge all the way and the same on usb but just slower ,if this problem persist i would bring it to VZW and get a knew batt or phone or both since you have only had it a week
It may not be the phone or the battery. It's probably a faulty DC adapter which is not delivering the proper amperage. I just had this problem with my Slingbox. It would light up but the lights looked dim and I couldn't connect to it. A new adapter fixed it.
(Edit) I just reread your post and noticed you are charging it on your PC's USB port. Try the wall charger or another PC. Some PCs don't put out enough juice to charge.

This is somewhat true. The phone should charge with less power regardless of the source. You notice this most on say a USB hard drive and this is why you have y cables sometimes on the drives that take more power. Does the computer you happen to be charging it on happen to be a Laptop?
FYI - I charge from a desktop PC that has a 1000W corsair powersupply and hig end motherboard.
With that asie though, I was able to get the charging back - works fine after I did a hard reset. Most everything was backed up via Google, so all I had to do was rearrange my icons on home screen and change a few android settings.
I still have all the same apps, so I do not know what caused it. Whatever, it is fine now, but if it happens again I will take it in - I do not want to have to hard reset every few weeks. (I have the $6 a month full protection plan, even if I lose it, it gets replaced)

Charging issues.

I've noticed that when I leave the phone plugged in overnight it sometimes just seems to stop charging at a random point somewhere throughout the night and I'll wake up with a phone that is only at 80%, 65%, etc.. battery. It isn't fully charging and then just being drained again either, it just randomly stops charging. It will recognize that a charger is plugged in and even says that it is charging but the percentage indicator in the Settings pulldown doesn't move. This doesn't happen every night and it has never happened when I charge the phone during the day. I assume it only happens at night because I'm not at my desk using it. I can also assume that the device isn't taking 8 hours to go from 35% battery to 75%, it doesn't charge that slowly. Any ideas?

Yeah, I have been using the cable that came with it. I've tried two different ones. I will try to see if it happens when charged through wall outlet.
Sorry for double post. Couldn't figure out how to attach image to an edit.
I looked at my battery settings and this is what I noticed. It looks like my phone is charging all the way up during the evening and then draining but the charging isn't kicking back or something. The huge gap in screen on time was when I was sleeping and there was no use of the device but battery is steadily draining.

Is it possible the computer is sleeping and no longer powering the USB ports?
I had exactly the same problem for one night.
But it can't be a problem with my Notebook because
my Galaxy S charged just fine.
Probably due to power saving options on your computer, be they USB power saving settings or sleep related. If you want to charge faster you should definitely use the wall charger, USB charging is painfully slow for me... if i am using the device, load can exceed the incoming current and the phone will still discharge. Moral of the story > USB charging = useless.

It really isn't a matter of slow charging. I'm charging it overnight so the speed at which it charges doesn't matter to me. As long as it is charged when I wake up. I've been using the same computer to charge my phones/tablets/cameras for two years and I've never had a problem. I'm not even using the device though, it is at night when I'm sleeping.
I have the same problem all of a sudden. Happened twice in the past week, never happened for months before. I never charge from a computer, always with the provided adapter and cable from the wall. A few hours into the night, before the phone is at 100% (varies from 70-90%), it just stops charging. Battery graph looks very similar to the one in this thread already posted.
I wonder which device switches the current off, the phone, or the wall adapter. I would have guessed the phone, and if that is correct swapping the wall adapter won't do anything.
Or you can use Fast Charge from Google Play and flash Franco Kernel.
Then you'll be able to switch from USB Charge to AC Charge by charging with your computer.
However, the battery will heat and you may consume its life, so do not do that too often, only when necessary if you expect using your phone very long times as i do, i just change phone every 5 years or more, depending of my needs.
Also, i noticed than USB Charging slowing down the charge at around 80%, but still charging, i read with Battery Monitor Widget, and i seen it will gives minus ampere.
I almost forgot, you may also calibrate your battery, the first time, charge it to 100%, then remove the file "batterystats.bin" from /data/system or wipe it threw Recovery, that will ensure you to use your battery to 100% next time.
Mine seems to stop charging at 100% and go back down also. Mine usually is between 95-100% when I wake up though. Is that just how this phone works to protect the battery? I've never noticed this in any other phone I've had.

Charging issue

There seems to be a bug, where if i leave the phone connected overnight on the stock charger and wifi is off when i wake up the battery is at 80% or less. My theory is that as soon as it reaches 100% it stops charging, has anyone experienced this?

This is happening to me as well; I've come to believe it's a faulty charger, actually. Or a charger designed that way. But the charger's fault regardless.
First occasionally, but now for a few nights in a row, I've found a phone plugged in overnight to be at 80% battery in the morning. When I look at the battery graph, it appears to have charged rapidly to 100% (or close-to), then started slowly discharging. However, with the battery use screen open, I also noticed that the status was rapidly changing between "Charging (AC)" and "Not charging", spending most of the time in the not charging state, despite a constant plugged-in icon in the notification area. This behavior persists regardless of wifi state and through many reboots; BUT, it hasn't happened at all yet (with just limited testing) when plugging it in through the adapter for my last phone (an HTC), nor does it happen when charging via USB. I don't know if the LG charger could be designed that way, where it stops when it's full, or if it's just a faulty unit that needs replacing. I'm going to try it on the HTC wall unit overnight tonight to see what happens.

I'm actually having a similar problem... For me I noticed that the screen stays on while the battery is discharging while on AC charging mode so it may be a different issue. It doesn't always happen but when it does, I'll be sitting around 75% when I wake up in the morning.

Turns out this is caused by using a USB extension cable... it would say the phone is charging on AC but there would not be enough current going through. When I plugged the the stock usb cable in to the charger directly, it charged fine.

Dead YD206

So YD206 about a month old. Was connected to official yota charger (via a magnetic usb cable), noticed the plug at the phone end getting quite hot. Phone now essentially dead, wont boot, doesn't seem to charge. We also realised the charger had come out of the wall socket. But the yotaphone light was intermittently flashing on the charger.
Whilst I am inclined to blame the magnetic charging cable, is it possible for current to flow in reverse from phone to charger and essentially discharge the phone battery below acceptable levels?
Any advice on rebooting it (can't remove the battery like I would on a Samsung) so whats the procedure?
Just a follow up charger not the issue, it crashed in use and the power button became non-responsive, with the screen off, and the e-ink display on but also unresponsive. Did not turn on when connected to a charger. However when I connected it to my pc it did register in device manager as MTP device, so I knew it was still alive. Removed the sim and held the power button down for 10 seconds then it rebooted.
Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.
Failing that it would probably have to be left to discharge (might take a while if nothing is running) then powered back on with charger attached.
I have similar problem. My phone got hot while not charging (about 15% of battery) and crashed. Then forced reboot (hold power button for about 10 seconds) helped while phone was connected to Yota charger, battery was dead, but phone booted (EPD on, did not check rest) and got to about 81%. After removing it from charger, same thing happened again, no luck with forced reboot this time. Phone was blazing hot and did not respond, then crashed again. No response after connecting charger or forced reboot. Any experience with this issue appreciated.

I am not sure about my warranty, bought it off AliExpress, I guess I could try to send it to manufacurer (i heard Russia provides repair service).
EDIT ( t + 2 days): I managed to start my Yota again. I connected it to computer and after about 5 minutes, magic happened and phone started all by itself. I will try to find out more, will update this as soon as I find something
Man, you are more lucky than me, I have a dead yotaphone lying around here. It also died after connecting it to a bad power source.
In my case it was the usb-port of a monitor.
When I checked the usb-port with a cable with a volt/amp display I saw that it was going on and off very quickly.
But so I would say be careful where you connect your yotaphone to, it does not seem to handle weird power sources all too well.

I actually thought about burning charging circuitry a lot. I wonder, if you would be able to test wireless charging. With some luck, it is independent enough to not be affected by burning micro usb charging route (depends where high voltage safety is implemented). If this make any sense to you, please give this a try (I think IKEA is place to go, they should have working wireless chargers in their model setups) and report back. If I am wrong in any aspect, I'd appreciate any correction with explanation.

Sorry for the late reply, did not see the quote, but it does not work with wireless charging either. I think the battery still has a lot of charge too. Thing is that the Motherboard also gets hot after a while when I try to charge it. I'm pretty sure my motherboard is dead. But I have another Yotaphone now, so maybe in the future I will test with every separable part replaced.
I use the charger from my iphone. It works great, although with the yotacharger also works well. Attention that I have a YotaPhone YD201 with Russian base and european compilation. Like I said the Iphone charger works great and doesn't warm my Yotaphone 2 . It might be a solution for your problems with charging.
