So I have DL09 across the board (kernal, blackhole rom, radio), and im thinking about making the switch to eb01, but I dont want to go through the hastle of reinstalling everything and setting up my phone the way I like it. Is there any way to do the upgrade without losing everything?
Also, is the gps realllllllly fixed this time? I thought dl09 and the 05 were supposed to fix it but neither worked for me.
Any help would be useful. I dont need lengthy explanations if you are busy, just more of a steer in the right direction. I used to read this and the dev forum religiously but ive fallen behind I feel like I dont know where to start.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Well.. you can use titanium backup to back up most of your stuff. For icon placements and stuff it depends on your launcher although mybackups never restored after wiping and then installing eb01 so who knows
Most third party launchers have a home screen backup capability... And Titanium Backup is the way to go for backing up your apps and their data. The paid version makes it even easier, allowing for batch restores without having to manually reinstall each app. Also, link all your contacts to gmail, and they will all be restored once you get setup again.
Following these easy steps will allow you to get your phone set back up in just a few minutes after flashing a new ROM

Hi what's the best way to backup everthing before I change from 23 rooted to 26 rooted oh is there a list of what can be removed from the phone without causing problems when I first rooted I went a bit mad and couldn't use the phone properly so had to reroot but would like to remove anything I won't use oh and one other thing which keyboard app do people think is thanks to the devs

Erm for backup there's mybackup n titanium backup, pretty much similar but ud have to see what best suits your backing up needs. titanium backup is also useful for saving app data such as the settings so saves fiddling about and mybackup allows you to also save contacts, msgz n so forth!
Advance notice - backing up stock apps with titanium backup is useless cause it doesn't show a restore option for it..
Google stuff I tend to avoid cause usually some sort of link to market o suma
No Mediascape would prevent you setting wallpapers except stock ones I think.. but I'm alright cause I just use third party apps!! I think some people have mentioned something about attaching mms errors. upto you tho
No Timescape would result in errors when trying to open up contact details.. some people use other apps such as acontacts or takephone (i fink thats what its called) to make up for it!
I've removed the standard email app cuz I don't use it (not the google 1)
I did take messaging off once to replace with chompsms but suma started to go wrong, delays, missing msgz! so avoided that!
Ive uninstalled the alarm clock n used kaloer clock although used to get the odd few errors here and there.. minor!
you can get rid of the keyboards if you only want to use the one.. id suggest swype! so easy messaging.. god knows what I'd do without it!!
Im sure there's a thread with better info on what's safe to uninstall.. just need to search.
ok I think I should stop for now lolz.. already an essay!! jus saw no replies so jus saying whatever came to mind..
hope its of any use.. if you need any info, jus drop me a PM n il try help ya if I can!!

I rooted my new Epic last night using the one click root. I then deleted most of the bloatware and my phone was working fine. I may have deleted a couple of apps that I needed though accidentally. The two problems I am having are that my android market app won't open and whenever I do a hard restart of the phone my home screen apps get cleared. When I click on the Market app it flashes to a white screen for less than a second and goes to the home screen. I have tried downloading new vendor.apks and it still won't work. Any help for either of these two issues is greatly appreciated.
Try to use odin to flash a fresh di18. Search around for a thread with a tutorial (there are a lot of the, just search epic 4g back to stock or fix brick (I know your not bricked)) If this helped please hit the thanks button! Please post problems with fixing in the return to stock tread .

Your contacts should be synchronized with Google. Unless they're stored on the phone itself, they should be fine.
I thought it'd be a good idea to make a thread where people post their bugs they're getting from the newly released cm7 alpha. I don't have cm7 myself yet, but I plan to so I think this thread would be useful to those who are thinking about trying it, and the CM team.

KNOWN BUGS
Apps such as Juice Defender, Angry Birds, ROM Manager, and Cordy do not work.
Backup and Restoring with GAAPS has some issues for users.
Videos from SD card will not play
Status Bar force close when receiving MMS
In-Call volume is unadjustable
Physical left & right arrow keys reversed [FIX] http://efragtv.com/android/cm7/keylayout-fix-cm7a1.zip
Full Screen Mode in Browser covers the Status Bar
Volume Levels low even when Maxed [NOT CONFIRMED YET]
I think that's all of them; PM me if I missed anything
Wiped Data/Cache 4 or 5 times. I do it more than I should just to make sure i get it..and im to lazy to count.
Flashed the Rom, Flashed GAPPS. Put it my gmail info. Checked a few boxes to download facebook, twitters, Maps, and such automagically... and after clicking install on all the market apps, I seem to be stuck on the "Backup and Restore" page...Been here for about 20 minutes. Now I know this works by downloading all of my apps again for me...but I think we should probably be able to get passed this point without waiting for 100 apps to download...
Not sure if I really am stuck or if its just taking its sweet time downloading my apps. I only have 2 bars and its kind of slow at work, but i really don't want to type a WEP key in right now for WiFi.

Sounds like the built in restore function takes a while and helps if you are wifi after you wipe.
I restored gapps and it didn't take longer than any normal operation.
CYANBREAD
Startup was slightly confusing because of the extra steps, but so far I'm bug free! I like it so far. I was playing with the customizations all for hours last night after installing.
EDIT: I forgot about one small problem. Juice defender widget seemed kinda hit or miss with turning data off. Never had trouble with syndicate.
2nd EDIT: Juice Defender doesn't work well with gingerbread yet.

I want to add, really quick, that the more you guys tweak your installation of the ROM the harder it is for us to pinpoint problems. Different apps, themes, tweaks, et cetera can break things that are known to work. Since we're trying to get the base system working, please only report bugs if you are mostly clean (apps are fine, obviously) and if it is directly related to the ROM itself.
EDIT: And as I've said in a previous thread, DO NOT restore data from a previous EB13 ROM. This isn't the ROMs you're used to. If you fail to fllow this step, your bug reports will be ignored. I don't mean to sound rude or whatever, but it doesn't help anyone if we're following false leads.

You can use the power widget for CM and just turn data on and off when you'd like to use it. Juice defender provably wont work with Gingerbread for a while until it comes out as a more mainstream Android OS.

The backup and restore that had me locked down for 35 minutes was not the Recovery Backup and Restore, it was the Android Backup and Restore right after selecting which applications you want to be automatically installed.
I ended up doing a battery pull because I needed to use the phone, after it rebooted I skipped the google account sign in and avoid this all together.
I was able to sign in after launching the market for the first time without any issue though.
Also on a side note, after I am up and running, I am trying to get the HoneyComb music app to work. .
Alright, so let me get this straight...
DO NOT restore apps w/ saved data, or do not restore system apps?
Also, things like this and the extra instructions you need to flash this ROM, gives more reason, and I've said it before, to show a video/tutorial from a person starting from stock EB13, to rooting, to flashing. I've seen lots of tutorials for the evo, and I'm sure it'll clear up a lot of mistakes.
In addition, if more people follow the video correctly, less bugs about improper flashing/restoring will be mentioned, and more bugs about the actual software will be more focused on, and help the devs see exactly what's wrong with the system, and not what the person did to flash the ROM.
I hope someone takes my advice, and that a video will be demonstrated on how to do this.
I would make a video myself, but not confident enough to flash cm7 quite yet.

Oh no no, it's basically like flashing any rom. If you're on a rooted EB13 all you have to do is wipe data 3x wipe cache and dalvik cache and install the zip file. It works as any rom all you have to do is wipe and put another rom on if you grow bored of this one. And use my backup pro to backup data from your app and restore it that way so that it's not something which is damaging to your phone as a whole.

According to Dameon it works on both RFS and EXT4 so whichever clockwork you have should be fine. People were trying to restore EB13 NAND backups onto CM7 I believe as well as applications which rely on frameworks which are not present. But I would say make a NAND Back up and have a stock EB13 update.zip or have the tar for Odin, just the usual procedure if you think you revert and really just use that if you feel like reverting or going back to a rom as a failsafe. Whatever you're comfortable with using.

I'm not sure all this root and roms stuff is for me I don't invison doing the things you all do I just want to get rid of some of the apps I'll never use that drain the battery and use up space.
Thanks

You have to be rooted first. The go into titanium backup, and you can delete the stock sprint apps; football, ect.

Get the app here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833954
But like teh roxxorz said I have never used it so I don't know. As easy as it is to run unrevoked I would say just use unrevoked and be done with it. That way fubar59 can install a custom recovery and make a nandroid backup before removing anything. Making it that much easier to fix if something goes wrong because some of the app are required by the system. Than it is to explain to Sprint why their apps are not on the phone.
I know you said you don't think you want to bother with rooting and all but...
If it's really that big of a deal to get the bloatware off I'd say go ahead and just spend a little time and root your phone...
I didn't really think I wanted to bother with it either but after I did I started flashin all sorts of stuff and am really glad that I did it...
Plus, after you root and get the stuff off that you dont need then you can just keep on using your phone the way you always have and when/if you ever feel like making a nandroid or flashing a new ROM then you're set...

You are completely misunderstood. DO NOT force close any apps in android, or use task killers. They are not needed, and THEY are causing your battery to drain faster.
Android is completely different from windows. Just because you see all those programs listed as "running" in your task killer, well they actually arent. They are just cached. Android likes to keep its memory full of apps, and if it needs more memory, it will handle that by closing apps on its own.
When YOU force close any apps, the Android OS sees a lot of empty space in its memory, and will automatically load those apps back into cache. That's the reason why everytime you force close those apps, they come right back. Because you are disrupting the way android works.
if the apps you uninstalled keep returning after a reboot, use a file manager with root and navigate to /system/apps and delete the ones you dont want, then uninstall them again
sorry, was referring to my earlier question. Still learning this site and its tools.
Hello, since sometime ago (don't remember when, sorry) my Dialer and SMS apps stopped working.
I never did any 'crazy stuff' with my Milestone 2 - just froze some motoblur stuff with Titanium (and only the really unnecessary stuff like ESMusica, things that you know they're useless) it's rooted too, but that's it. I unfroze everything and still no go, when I try to open them I get a black screen for two seconds and then it goes back back to the home screen.
I don't remember when it happened because I've been using GO Dialer and GO SMS for a long time, so it doesn't really bother me since they work on any launcher, but... I may buy a Galaxy S2 or an Atrix and it will be kind of weird selling the phone without the native Dialer and SMS borked
Anybody went through something similar? And any solution?
Thanks a lot in advance.
maybe just do a factory reset before you sell it? had the same problem with titanium, but i couldn't even recieve any sms...
first try unfreezing all blur-sh** and then reboot it, maybe that helps!
Before you sell it, do a factory reset and flash Retail Brazil SBF.

Thanks! Good idea doing it before selling (not in a hurry because I just found out my carrier won't discount me until feb 2012 - so maybe I'll be able to get a quad core phone by then, I love my iMac and iPad but I hate the iPhone's keyboard and lack of multitasking - what made me try to freeze all the motoblur stuff was that my phone is constantly hitting 100% cpu and slowing down even with the motothings frozen and oc'ed to 1.25).
But on the unfroze+reboot thing, no luck The messaging app runs, I can click on the facebook messages, etc but when I click text messaging it goes back to the Home Screen. I deleted the app cache/data via app settings on the phone and no go.
If I do a factory reset, what will I lose? My phone apps and contacts? I can reinstall then, and my Go Launcher setup is backed up on the SD and my contacts are synced with google and the mac's address book so maybe I can benefit from it?
Thanks for your response!

Dan can you tell me or point me to how I do this sbf thing? I never flashed anything on my phone, never tried custom ROMs because of the locked bootloader. Thank you.
Search for sbf_flash (mac/linux) or RSD Lite 5.3/4.8/4.9 (windows). Those are the programs that can flash a motorola signed SBF to your phone.
For the files download:
http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2
For an explanation of the CGs(partitions) stored inside each SBF (see Droid X section):
http://and-developers.com/partitions:cdt
For a GB SBF get the leak in the Dev forum and the root method in the General or in the Droid 3 forum.
To flash it you need to be on bootloader mode, Power + Volume Down + Camera.
For a better explanation on how to flash it search the forum, you may find it.
Sorry, no links of the forum, I'm on mobile.
Edit: If you want a custom Rom, I only tested the MIUI and it is good, the others (not including Mostly Blurless GB) may have some crazy bugs.

Yeah I never worried but... One friend I added a long time ago (including fb profile, etc) was not imported - at least not her phone number - so I'm worried now that the contacts I added manually (in her case I just added the phone number, the rest was all fb+google info) won't be 100% synced. I'll check some of the people I added manually if I can remember who they are lol.

Baseband Help (TIM BRAZIL)
Hello,
My Milestone 2 is no network, when I turn it appears unsigned. Saw in other forums that the problem may be the Baseband, I'm using the ROM and it came MIUI Defy Baseband Switch, tried all the bands available for Brazil, but none works. Could you help me?
I regularly have the same problem with my dialer app.
It is not that it stops working but after a few days of collecting calls it crashes when I dial certain numbers, for example 420 which is one of the most common number starts for me, the app crashes immediately.
If I clear the stats for the recent calls -in and out- the app doesn't crash but it will crash if I try to see the number matches for that 420 that I dialed.
I hope I'm making myself clear.
I think it is a bug in the app because I don't use titanium to disable anything related to the dialer or contacts or search or anything that has influence over the dialer app.
If anyone has an idea as to why this happens please let me know.
Martin.-
