CM7 Alpha 1 Bug Thread - Epic 4G General

I thought it'd be a good idea to make a thread where people post their bugs they're getting from the newly released cm7 alpha. I don't have cm7 myself yet, but I plan to so I think this thread would be useful to those who are thinking about trying it, and the CM team.
Thank you.

KNOWN BUGS
Apps such as Juice Defender, Angry Birds, ROM Manager, and Cordy do not work.
Backup and Restoring with GAAPS has some issues for users.
Videos from SD card will not play
Status Bar force close when receiving MMS
In-Call volume is unadjustable
Physical left & right arrow keys reversed [FIX] http://efragtv.com/android/cm7/keylayout-fix-cm7a1.zip
Full Screen Mode in Browser covers the Status Bar
Volume Levels low even when Maxed [NOT CONFIRMED YET]
I think that's all of them; PM me if I missed anything

Wiped Data/Cache 4 or 5 times. I do it more than I should just to make sure i get it..and im to lazy to count.
Flashed the Rom, Flashed GAPPS. Put it my gmail info. Checked a few boxes to download facebook, twitters, Maps, and such automagically... and after clicking install on all the market apps, I seem to be stuck on the "Backup and Restore" page...Been here for about 20 minutes. Now I know this works by downloading all of my apps again for me...but I think we should probably be able to get passed this point without waiting for 100 apps to download...
Not sure if I really am stuck or if its just taking its sweet time downloading my apps. I only have 2 bars and its kind of slow at work, but i really don't want to type a WEP key in right now for WiFi.

Why not just post bugs in its own thread? The one in the development section

This helps to not clutter the main thread with people repeating the same bugs, over and over.

Sounds like the built in restore function takes a while and helps if you are wifi after you wipe.

I restored gapps and it didn't take longer than any normal operation.
CYANBREAD

Startup was slightly confusing because of the extra steps, but so far I'm bug free! I like it so far. I was playing with the customizations all for hours last night after installing.
EDIT: I forgot about one small problem. Juice defender widget seemed kinda hit or miss with turning data off. Never had trouble with syndicate.
2nd EDIT: Juice Defender doesn't work well with gingerbread yet.

If you re boot to recovery it will just hang at samsungmobile screen. Pulled battery rebooted 3 finger to cwm3 then wiped cach and dalvik and rebooed fine.
CYANBREAD

Visual glitch
when you check full screen mode in the browser settings and then open a link up or load a page, theres a glitch in the top part of the browser where the status bar is supposed to be

I want to add, really quick, that the more you guys tweak your installation of the ROM the harder it is for us to pinpoint problems. Different apps, themes, tweaks, et cetera can break things that are known to work. Since we're trying to get the base system working, please only report bugs if you are mostly clean (apps are fine, obviously) and if it is directly related to the ROM itself.
EDIT: And as I've said in a previous thread, DO NOT restore data from a previous EB13 ROM. This isn't the ROMs you're used to. If you fail to fllow this step, your bug reports will be ignored. I don't mean to sound rude or whatever, but it doesn't help anyone if we're following false leads.

You can use the power widget for CM and just turn data on and off when you'd like to use it. Juice defender provably wont work with Gingerbread for a while until it comes out as a more mainstream Android OS.

The backup and restore that had me locked down for 35 minutes was not the Recovery Backup and Restore, it was the Android Backup and Restore right after selecting which applications you want to be automatically installed.
I ended up doing a battery pull because I needed to use the phone, after it rebooted I skipped the google account sign in and avoid this all together.
I was able to sign in after launching the market for the first time without any issue though.
Also on a side note, after I am up and running, I am trying to get the HoneyComb music app to work. .

Alright, so let me get this straight...
DO NOT restore apps w/ saved data, or do not restore system apps?
Also, things like this and the extra instructions you need to flash this ROM, gives more reason, and I've said it before, to show a video/tutorial from a person starting from stock EB13, to rooting, to flashing. I've seen lots of tutorials for the evo, and I'm sure it'll clear up a lot of mistakes.
In addition, if more people follow the video correctly, less bugs about improper flashing/restoring will be mentioned, and more bugs about the actual software will be more focused on, and help the devs see exactly what's wrong with the system, and not what the person did to flash the ROM.
I hope someone takes my advice, and that a video will be demonstrated on how to do this.
I would make a video myself, but not confident enough to flash cm7 quite yet.

Oh no no, it's basically like flashing any rom. If you're on a rooted EB13 all you have to do is wipe data 3x wipe cache and dalvik cache and install the zip file. It works as any rom all you have to do is wipe and put another rom on if you grow bored of this one. And use my backup pro to backup data from your app and restore it that way so that it's not something which is damaging to your phone as a whole.

According to Dameon it works on both RFS and EXT4 so whichever clockwork you have should be fine. People were trying to restore EB13 NAND backups onto CM7 I believe as well as applications which rely on frameworks which are not present. But I would say make a NAND Back up and have a stock EB13 update.zip or have the tar for Odin, just the usual procedure if you think you revert and really just use that if you feel like reverting or going back to a rom as a failsafe. Whatever you're comfortable with using.

Can't find a ROM that works for me

For some reason, every ROM I have tried, has the same problem for me. I will get an incoming call and the phone is silent and doesn't ring but does show the caller id. When I look at the caller id, the phone number that pops up is always the number of the previous incoming call or last outgoing call, but never the actual name or number. When the phone stops ringing, it says one missed call and shows the correct number or person that called me. Most of the time, the phone does actually ring and the correct number is displayed. Does anyone know what could be causing the problem?
I would clear data on your call storage
When you flash new roms are you wiping data and Cache? When you reinstall your apps are you using Titanium and installing all Apps and Data (system and user)?
If you restore data from a previous ROM flash over a new one, you could have compatibility issues that cause some wierd things like you are describing. I have flash ROMS many times and have never experienced anything like you are. (Redemption, Virtuous, Uncommon, Redemptive).

Too many to list.
Only other suggestion I have is do a factory reset, see if you have the problem. Flash a rom, see if you still have the problem. Then start reinstalling apps one by one. If it was a ROM issue, more people would be complaining.

Before I try that, I am going to disable an app I am using called "Easy Answer Button". I wonder if the app is causing the problem, especially since it's a Beta version?
Both Skyraider and Myns 2.2 have been pretty much bugless for me. Currently going with Myns for now, like both ROMs, no issues of any sort.
im using senseless with lous kernel. When I do a flash, I wipe everything and never back up apps, I just start fresh. Might be a bit more of a hassle, but I dont load alot of apps so its no big deal. I have never had any problem doing things this way, and ive done it since I had my first htc windows phone. I would bet it is your app you mentioned, I try and stay away from stuff like that.

Few questions/need advice

So I have DL09 across the board (kernal, blackhole rom, radio), and im thinking about making the switch to eb01, but I dont want to go through the hastle of reinstalling everything and setting up my phone the way I like it. Is there any way to do the upgrade without losing everything?
Also, is the gps realllllllly fixed this time? I thought dl09 and the 05 were supposed to fix it but neither worked for me.
Any help would be useful. I dont need lengthy explanations if you are busy, just more of a steer in the right direction. I used to read this and the dev forum religiously but ive fallen behind I feel like I dont know where to start.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Well.. you can use titanium backup to back up most of your stuff. For icon placements and stuff it depends on your launcher although mybackups never restored after wiping and then installing eb01 so who knows
Most third party launchers have a home screen backup capability... And Titanium Backup is the way to go for backing up your apps and their data. The paid version makes it even easier, allowing for batch restores without having to manually reinstall each app. Also, link all your contacts to gmail, and they will all be restored once you get setup again.
Following these easy steps will allow you to get your phone set back up in just a few minutes after flashing a new ROM

Is it enough to just 'freeze' htc iq & logger?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yea, I found this last night. I was the one who originally posted it here. The article on Android Police stated that the best option was immediate removal of the HTClogger apk. I did that, and got repeated force closes over and over, literally to the point of not being able to do anything on my phone. I had to pull the battery and restore to a Nadroid I made earlier, so just removing the apk isn't gonna work. I think it has to be built out of the OS, because the system keeps looking for it. I don't know how freezing is going to work either, but I think it would have the same results. I'm waiting on word from someone who knows better than me, and hopefully the dev who built my ROM can do something to get it out.
Not sure about being able to just wipe or freeze those services, but there are a variety of rom's that have them removed, or just go with an AOSP rom and problem solved.
don't forget to wipe..

MikG 3.0 2nd issue - no lockscreen/sd card

Oh no. Here I am posting again within a few days with another issue.
My previous issue can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459225
I just turned my phone off to attend a few classes and when I turned it on my lockscreen was invisible (so could not unlock phone) and I saw an error on the top bar saying my memory storage was empty. If I reinsert my sd card the error goes away but lockscreen is still invisible. The phone does nothing. I hate to say it but I'm thinking about switching outta this ROM. It's moving fast when it DOES work so would love some help on this.
Thanks in advance.
This happened to me when flashing, i had to flash, reflash reflash reflash until it finally came up, Maybe try rebooting it a bunch of times?
This happened to me as well when I tried MikG 3.0. You might want to try going into recovery and selecting the mounts and storage option and choose mount emmc. If it gives you an error, then your EMMC is borked and you must flash back to a stock incredible based from (such as TeeRom, Ice Cream Sense, or Stock GB) to format phone storage. You'll lose everything on EMMC but it will fix your issue. I also took out my SD card before choosing to format phone storage just to be safe
Looks like something is causing this issue on Mik3.0 and I unfortunately must advise backing up your emmc before using it.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
What Mods are the two of you using? Ext4, themes not in the MikG forum? I need to know so I can try to recreate the problem. As I said in another post, this ROM does NOT even touch the emmc partition. Let me know what changes you've made. I can't help you with no information. There's been a hundred downloads and you two are the only ones I see with an emmc issue. Are your phones new, used, eBay? Thanks for the info.
EDIT: Also, what CWM recovery are you using?

- Bought brand new 1.5 years ago
- CWM 5.0.2.0
- Hboot 0.92
- Nothing additional was flashed, not even tiny's kernel
- Wiped Data/Factory Reset, boot and system from CWM before flashing
- Restored apps with data from Titanium
- Set up Google and Facebook accounts
- Installed and applied Slate.apk
- Applied the following tweaks:
Font: Roboto
Autobrightness: Lowest
Boot Animation: HTC Stock
Down Animation: ATTEMPTED to switch to HTC Stock, however it was hanging on the download so I hit home to get out of the screen.
Status Bar Transparency: Switched to transparent, switched back
Rosie Drawer Scrolling: Disabled
Quick Settings: Disabled various quicksettings (4G, ADB Wireless, Silent, Vibrate)
Animation speed: Switched from Normal to slow on both transition and window
- Edited build.prop ro.fingerprint to reflect GB instead of Froyo so I don't get the OTA nag
- Set up everything all nice and stuff
I may have missed something, but that's pretty much what I did.

Only thing I see I don't like and don't recommend is TB with data. I have never had ANY luck keeping things stable doing that. Not saying that's it, just pointing it out. Still not seeing anything. Sorry. Just not sure how the ROM can do this. I asked Aamikam, the dev for the EVO version of this for his thoughts. He's not sure how this is even possible since the ROM doesn't touch emmc. Not sure.

There are four reported cases of this issue on these forums so far; the OP of this thread, two more in the rom thread and myself. Still not as widespread as it could be, but it must be a rom issue. I've been restoring apps with APP data (never system data) through titanium in every rom flash and never have any issues, so I do not believe that is it. However I am not ruling it out. I forgot to mention I have an AMOLED screen if that makes any difference.

Good ol' software.
I'll try and troubleshoot it tomorrow perhaps. I love this rom as well and if I can get MMS over Wifi working like you say you have then it'll be a daily driver for sure.
What we know:
- Issue happens after a reboot
- EMMC is repartitioned as something completely different/is corrupted, making the volume unreadable.
- Upon boot, apps and whatnot seem to start up but no lock screen is present. The entire device does not respond to touches, including the capacitive buttons and hardware buttons excluding the power button (holding it does nothing though) to turn the screen off and on. Perhaps its having trouble loading Rosie.apk?
Also, I remember I did freeze some HTC stuff I don't use, but I don't recall freezing anything out of the ordinary. When I go back to troubleshoot I'll redo everything step by step, rebooting after each change.

I've been having the same issues mentioned, I took me 3 flashes to get the lockscreen to work and occasionally when I do reboots it won't show up and I'll have to do a battery pull. I also get the sd notifications sometimes, the sd card still works but the notification stays there. Another problem I've been having is that annoying system update from verizon, it keeps popping up and I don't know how to get rid of it. Any ideas?

Build prop update at the mikmik will help with the update nag. Also, I finally got the SD/emmc , and lockscreen issue, all at the same time after doing a font. Download the file to your SD card. Make a backup of your current build.prop. Call it build.prop.old. Copy the downloaded build.prop and paste to /system directory. Then change permissions to rw-r--r-- . Do all of this before a reboot. To change permissions, make sure system is r/w enabled, then long press file and select permissions.

[ROM] [CM10.1] OaT_LnT[July 25, 2013]

Background
This is a very light and tweaked version of CM10.1 along with a lightened and tweaked version of GApps. If you are familiar with my previous Light n Tasty (LnT) releases, you know what to expect, although as of late I am going even further. For example, I am not including the CM Browser or Calendar apps in the ROM as IMO there are much better 3rd party ones available in Google Play, generally for free. (I do encourage you to support the developer via a paid app if that is available.) LnT is ringing in at very svelte ~240MB, leaving ~73MB free in an unexpanded ROM partition via AcmeInstaller3, after flashing LnT_CM10.1 and LnT_GApps. With that kind of room, you could even consider applying AppstoROM if it were beneficial to your TP. The standard GApps should be able to be used with the ROM, if so desired. Updates to the ROM and GApps will be made as significant changes occur, or if I get bored and want to flash something new :silly: .
Flashing
Personally, coming from LnTTP_CM10, I just dirty flashed over it with no problems, using the latest (?) TWRP. If you are coming from another ROM, it is highly recommended that you do a full set of wipes before flashing the ROM. It is also recommended that GApps be concurrently flashed with the ROM.
Issues
The issues with LnT are the same as with other CM10.1 releases, which center around a non-working bluetooth. Presumably the camera has been enabled, but as I have never really used that capability in CM or WebOS, I have not verified that. In fact, no camera app is included in the ROM, so if one is interested in that feature, a working one would have to be found in Google Play or one 'extracted and installed' from a standard CM10.1 ROM. Finally, if one is having problems with sound cutting off when the display turns off, try switching bluetooth on. It will not stay on, but it does seem to fix the sound problem when the display turns off.
Acknowledgements
I'll use the 'trickle down' approach here, and personally thank milaq, whose git repository this build is based on. It then follows that I am indebted to the work of those he mentions who have specifically contributed in the development of CM for the TouchPad, and to the many others who make generic contributions to CM, and of course to Google and AOSP for providing open source, which without none of this could be accomplished.

System Add-Ons
Find your system add-ons to LnTTP here. They, of course, need to be placed in the system/apps directory, followed by setting the permissions appropriately, and then rebooting your TP. Since I don't use these I really can't verify if they work. Finally, if you are aware of a newer version, notify me and I will update here asap.
Been using this for a week, rock solid and very clean. I dirty flashed over his previous ROM using TWRP, along with the slimmed down Gapps. I am using Next browser and a calendar, both work well. I haven't been successful using Camera JB+, it tries to open, but when you try to take a picture it closes.
Great work as usual OaT!

Thanks O.a.T.!!! Been waiting for this new version to be released.
Thanks for the ROM OaT. I use my touchpad much more than my Galaxy Tab (that still sits in the box and turned on only once) b/c your ROMs are so much better.
Hell Yah! Thanks again Oat for another badass release. Downloading now and can't wait to flash. Was using your 10.1 before and I'm sure this will continue to only get better.

Hmm... I can't seem to Flash the new 6/21 ROM... once I get into TWRP, and select the zip, it says:
Updating partition details
Running Boot script
Finished running boot script
E: Unable to open zip file
Error flashing zip 'sdcard/Download/LnTP_CM10.1_o621.zip'
Updating partition details...
Failed
Any suggestions? I tried twice, after the first fail I tried wiping cache and darvic but same result.

Hmmm? Bad download? Did you check MD5? Otherwise I would restore your previous install, re-download, and reflash.
Kondik's/CM's New Privacy Guard
Hate to do this so soon after just posting the 0621 ROM, but oh well!
Have you heard about Kondik's/CM's new Privacy Guard capability? It's a WiP, but I've been using it most of the day on both my N4 and TP, and it seems to work very well and appears to be stabilizing in terms of changes. If you too want to give it a try, here you go...

No worries OaT, and I was able to download and flash the newer one successfully. I haven't opened up yet but I like the new boot animation.
Getting pretty typical 10.1, but also not great battery life on this. Seeing about 30 to 40 mA drain when sleeping.

btw, camera works (at least Camera JB+), but appears to flip the image. Still, good to get the camera working in time for my trip (so I can use Skype).

There are 2 locations to set options. In Settings>>Security towards the very bottom you will see a toggle that sets the privacy option on in every new app installed. In Settings>>Apps, after you select an app, you will see a checkbox in the app information that turns the privacy option on for that app. With the option turned on, for example, apps will be told gps is off, whether in fact it is or not, thus protecting your location. Also, for example, apps seeking a list of contacts will be provided a false list. There are also a few other actions also done to protect your privacy from 'nosy' apps.

I still can't get themes to install and wifi cuts off every time the tablet sleeps, think I saw that was a cm issue, but hoping otherwise.

Can I get away with acme installer 2 or is the 3 mandatory?
