Will we get Froyo automatically? - Epic 4G General

I hate to have to ask this question, but I've read 6 or 7 threads in the last hour and can't find a straight answer. I'm in S. FL. Will Froyo be updated on our phones automatically?
I understand I can update manually, but I don't have time for that, which is part of the reason I left WinMo.

If you are on stock Android 2.1 (Eclair), you will get the update over the air within the next 3 days.
If you are not stock Android 2.1 (Eclair), you won't.

Yes. If you are not rooted and stock rom, you'll get a notice on your phone over the next few days when it's your area's turn. If you are rooted, you should still get it if you are on stock rom and all the bloatware is still there.

The first update we received a few months back took a week to get to my phone, and it kept popping up at rather inconvenient times when it finally showed. The visual voice mail update took 4 weeks to get to my phone. I'm in Central FL
I did the simple update method, which I posted about here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964260. I had my update installed before most OTAs, and I did it on my time. You could do it on your lunch break without issue.

you know it just takes 10 minutes right.
do it while you're taking a dump or something

The update has been temporarily suspended, its been causing a lot of trouble with peoples phones. If you really want it, you're going to have to use the update.zip.

Ok, at this rate I will never get an update pushed to my phone. I wonder if its safe for me to just update manually.

Just realize that the Samsung tool wipes everything on your phone, and if you are on stock 2.1 I don't think there is any good way to back up everything. (no clockwork backup and titanium wont work w/o root)

My backup pro works just fine. it will save data and apps with data.

So is that it, Samsung not going to release the fixed Froyo!? After waiting eternity, Samsung released a long over due Froyo just to shutup pissed customers, only for the release to be buggie and them take it down shortly after and totally forget about us again! I think this will be the last Samsung phone I ever buy!
Samsung = company that only cares about future products...not supporting current/old ones.

More updates later on?

Saw this article from Phandroid earlier. Seems interesting that T-Mobile would push this update *yes, probably to shut us up* but then sit on some other updates *possibly KA7?*
Here's the read.
Samsung Vibrant Froyo Update Available Only as an Optional Kies Update, Mandatory OTA Coming Later?
t looks like there is, in fact, a catch to the Samsung Vibrant update to Android 2.2 through T-Mobile. While an update is indeed being made available to users in the form of a build version KA6, word from inside T-Mobile is suggesting that this is an optional update coming via the Samsung Kies software, perhaps merely to quiet detractors and negative press buzz. If T-Mobile’s own statements aren’t enough, a build with the version number KA7 leaking out earlier today also suggests that a future, mandatory update to Froyo will be coming over-the-air at a later date.
This is all speculation for now, as we haven’t heard word from any Vibrant users that they have received an update notification on their handset. We will keep our ears to the ground as the day unfolds and the situation develops.

I just posted that thought in another thread.
I bet that's exactly what happened.
There was a lot of heat going on. ka6 is "good enough" so they posted that. Anyone complaining would know how to use kies, update and stop complaining. They'll update the masses later on with a final build via ota.
A lot of people on here including me skippes the kies KA6 and went to 7. For me its a good build but maybe another one will follow. It seems some people are very disappointed by the update. And then we have another leak the day of the "official" makes the "we'll update later" seem real.

Hmm, this article definitely is giving me food for thought.
I think I'm gonna wait until the real update pops up.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well, they'll have to give us 2.2.1 soon, right? Or people will set T-Mobile HQ on fire.
So I'm pretty sure that KA6 is just a "to shut us up" release.
^^ Pretty much yes.
Who know's if we will see 2.2.1. They're HQ might still start on fire if people's phones don't work after their "official Froyo" release.. lol.
Actually. Posted this in the thread that phandroid used for their speculation. they by using kies got the update out to people who wanted it. But the lack of source code suggest it is not the upgrade samsung and tmobile wanted to push as samsung usually lets go of the source code at the same time as the upgrade which makes this a "Here is your upgrade now be quiet" type of upgrade.

My thoughts exactly. The source they eventually release will probably be KA7 or later. The good thing about the release is that it puts them on the clock to release source.

Okay so if you release a update (froyo) you MUST release a source code? I didn't know that, I though they choose to do that, lol I learn something new everyday on here.
Gingerbread in 4 weeks? Doubt it, froyo isn't even working right yet, if anything Gingerbread will be on the Vibrant 4g..

Considering that EB01 still has a number of problems (like the new GPS issues), I'd imagine they'd hold off on releasing until there's nothing too major.
Plus, they haven't announced that they're going to do anything, so it seems highly doubtful it's coming out today.

So you want the update but you don't want the color change...? I'm confused. You can very easily backup 2.3.2 or even get the 2.3.2 colors on 2.3.3 with any Voodoo kernel
Also, I can say that for myself, the new colors look perfect. I wouldn't change them back for anything.

On GB 588...up to 59x worth it?

After much gnashing of teeth and unbelievably patient assistance I upgraded to a stock rooted GB.
I love it. I admit it...I was wrong:GB is THAT MUCH better than froyo.
So...
Is there any reason to bare the slings and arrows of outrageous sbf-ing to pop up to 595 or 6 or 1?

I was on .588 for a few minutes today from .340 and after upgrading to .595 it seemed a bit snappier. I'd say the upgrade to .595 is worth it just because you're set to get the OTA from it.

You shouldn't need to sbf at all to go from .588 to .595.
So I'm hearing that of the various 59x versions its 59FIVE that I wanna move to for compatibility with an OTA upgrade ? And there's a flash method via droid2 bootloader?

No... You will need to be stock froyo in order to receive ota according to p3droid
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I would stay with .588. I have heard it is a little harder than sbfing back to froyo. Also the .596 ota is coming out soon and it looks like the bootloader is changing. Once you make the switch to it there will be no way back to froyo. And currently there is no root for .596. I know I can easily sbf back to froyo from .588 so when a rooted version of the ota is released then I will make the next switch. If you are stable and happy stay where you are. If there are a few bugs that are bothering you. You might think about going to .595. Just read about getting back to froyo if you choose that route.

i see no reason to switch as you cannot switch back to froyo.... not that i have any intention of going back I just have no desire to switch to the new version until a deodexed + rooted version slides out... i think its silly to even consider atm but thats just my opinion.
if you want OTA fine, but this is XDA... i thought we were all here because we DIDNT want the easy way.
I am more-or-less stable and happy on 588. So I'll just sit tight . But when the OTA upgrade becomes available from Moto Ill have to be back on Froyo ? Or is the jury still out on this?

The problem as I understand it is that Verizon wants that bloatware on there, it's a revenue stream for them. Especially the Verizon app store - pops up on my screen every time I plug my phone into my computer.
I have read that in the new Gingerbread release, it will be the first icon in the tray because the icons will no longer be in alphabetical order. That will make finding the correct icons so much easier in the menu.
I can't wait.
So Buttes says 595 will ota to 596, but owenbeales reports thar p3droid says unrooted froyo s necessary to OTA .... Anybody got clarification ?
Also...any opinions on ota596 with bloatware performance compared to the previously released 59x rooted stocks?

Umm yea we're getting 2.3.6 too, possibly ics themed (value pack) because of the whole carrier iq thing iirc. If it took this long to get us gingerbread it would have been 2.3.6 too, but they decided to not totally screw us by giving us a pretty decent update a couple months back.

Finally I moved the3 apps that COULD go to sd and it helped but it's still at 52MB total available. It seems the update just caused problems. My wife is upset that it changed the theme too. She doesn't like change lol. She ran her moment on CL14 and absolutely refused to update... Ever! I guess I wish they have an option in the update popup like "I like my phone how it is". /rant

If you were payin attention to the posts aroud here instead of ogling your friends phone, you would see Samsung and Sprint have been working on a 2.3.6 update almost immediately after they released 2.3.5 to us. Samsung isn't screwing anyone. It takes them time AND Sprint's approval before updates go out to this Touchwiz loaded phone.

I think you are asking the wrong question. "How could they get 2.3.6 when we only have 2.3.5?" isn't as important as "Is the user experience on a Samsung Replenish running 2.3.6 better or worse than it is on an Epic 4g running 2.3.5".
