After much gnashing of teeth and unbelievably patient assistance I upgraded to a stock rooted GB.
I love it. I admit it...I was wrong:GB is THAT MUCH better than froyo.
So...
Is there any reason to bare the slings and arrows of outrageous sbf-ing to pop up to 595 or 6 or 1?

I was on .588 for a few minutes today from .340 and after upgrading to .595 it seemed a bit snappier. During my time on .588 the sync icon would not go away on my taskbar and the lockscreen took a few seconds to unlock. I'd say the upgrade to .595 is worth it just because you're set to get the OTA from it.

You shouldn't need to sbf at all to go from .588 to .595.
So I'm hearing that of the various 59x versions its 59FIVE that I wanna move to for compatibility with an OTA upgrade ? And there's a flash method via droid2 bootloader?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
No... You will need to be stock froyo in order to receive ota according to p3droid
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I would stay with .588. I have heard it is a little harder than sbfing back to froyo. Also the .596 ota is coming out soon and it looks like the bootloader is changing. Once you make the switch to it there will be no way back to froyo. And currently there is no root for .596. I know I can easily sbf back to froyo from .588 so when a rooted version of the ota is released then I will make the next switch. If you are stable and happy stay where you are. If there are a few bugs that are bothering you. You might think about going to .595. Just read about getting back to froyo if you choose that route.

I was on. 595 for around ten minutes before I bootlooped my phone and the linux sbf worked like a charm.
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
Would be nice if the new bootloader would be unencrypted...but that'll only happen in my dreams.

I am staying with the apex beta on 591 because it is aosp based and there is no bloatware to slow down my phone. I will update when the roms update.
i see no reason to switch as you cannot switch back to froyo.... not that i have any intention of going back I just have no desire to switch to the new version until a deodexed + rooted version slides out... i think its silly to even consider atm but thats just my opinion.
if you want OTA fine, but this is XDA... i thought we were all here because we DIDNT want the easy way.
I am more-or-less stable and happy on 588. So I'll just sit tight . But when the OTA upgrade becomes available from Moto Ill have to be back on Froyo ? Or is the jury still out on this?
Thx for getting back

The problem as I understand it is that Verizon wants that bloatware on there, it's a revenue stream for them. Especially the Verizon app store - pops up on my screen every time I plug my phone into my computer.
I have read that in the new Gingerbread release, it will be the first icon in the tray because the icons will no longer be in alphabetical order. That will make finding the correct icons so much easier in the menu.
I can't wait.
So Buttes says 595 will ota to 596, but owenbeales reports thar p3droid says unrooted froyo s necessary to OTA .... Anybody got clarification ?
Also...any opinions on ota596 with bloatware performance compared to the previously released 59x rooted stocks?

I hate to have to ask this question, but I've read 6 or 7 threads in the last hour and can't find a straight answer. I'm in S. FL. Will Froyo be updated on our phones automatically?
I understand I can update manually, but I don't have time for that, which is part of the reason I left WinMo.

If you are on stock Android 2.1 (Eclair), you will get the update over the air within the next 3 days.
If you are not stock Android 2.1 (Eclair), you won't.
Yes. If you are not rooted and stock rom, you'll get a notice on your phone over the next few days when it's your area's turn. If you are rooted, you should still get it if you are on stock rom and all the bloatware is still there.

The first update we received a few months back took a week to get to my phone, and it kept popping up at rather inconvenient times when it finally showed. The visual voice mail update took 4 weeks to get to my phone. I'm in Central FL
I did the simple update method, which I posted about here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964260. I had my update installed before most OTAs, and I did it on my time. You could do it on your lunch break without issue.
you know it just takes 10 minutes right.
do it while you're taking a dump or something

The update has been temporarily suspended, its been causing a lot of trouble with peoples phones. If you really want it, you're going to have to use the update.zip.
Ok, at this rate I will never get an update pushed to my phone. I wonder if its safe for me to just update manually.

Just realize that the Samsung tool wipes everything on your phone, and if you are on stock 2.1 I don't think there is any good way to back up everything. (no clockwork backup and titanium wont work w/o root)
My backup pro works just fine. it will save data and apps with data.

So is that it, Samsung not going to release the fixed Froyo!? After waiting eternity, Samsung released a long over due Froyo just to shutup pissed customers, only for the release to be buggie and them take it down shortly after and totally forget about us again! I think this will be the last Samsung phone I ever buy!
Samsung = company that only cares about future products...not supporting current/old ones.

Is 2.3.20 the latest system version for the D2? If its not is it worth upgrading and re-rooting?
Sent from my Droid 2 running Apex 1.4.1
You can't upgrade until motorola decides to OTA, which you won't receive if you're rooted.

This is just a rumor, but I read that the DX might get 2.3 soon. IF its true, that could mean the d2 wouldn't be far behind.
Once again, THIS IS JUST A RUMOR I HEARD, so don't put too much stock in it

Supposing that happened...I would have to un-root to get it. Then would re-rooting from a new system version be possible? Or would we have to wait for a new root to come out.

yeah, P3Droid, the first person to report on this, said the D2G and DX might be seeing updates, he said that moto considers the D2 to the "red headed step-child" or something like that and wont be seeing updates, he is a very reputable person and isnt like nenelod who was trolling us, when he says it, its probably true
That's just depressing. I just got my D2 and opted for instead of D2G thinking it would have some more love. Guess I should have done more research. At least we have some good Devs. I helped my friend root his Devour and they are really hurting for ROMs.

Follow @p3droid on twitter. Those of us with the TBH app will be getting Gingerbread within the next 15-20 minutes it seems.

it's available for free download for those without the TBH app. someone leaked the download url so TBH just figured to release it to everyone
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...id-x-gingerbread-2-3-3-prerelease-thread.html
I'll read the entire thread tonight and decide if I'm game to try this out. My main concern is keyboard accuracy. Since I'm at work I really cant go through all 44 pages right now.
WOW, I feel like a noob. I post this then the next day POP GINGERBREAD I just put it on my phone and WOW i'm loving it, I had Liberty 1.5 then to Apex 1.4.1 and they are both nice but this rocks hard. I'm very happy and I don't think I'm going back, Ya No root but I can live without that...
OK I'm currently on the rooted GB leak and I want to return to stock 2.2. Now I have bought the TBH app and I'm wondering which file I should download through TBH to return to2.2.
Thanks
Look for the master stock file. There are two so read them because one of them can't be rooted.

Haha thats no the reason ive decided to return to stock. But my reason probably isnt any better. I actually switched back because I LOVED the stock DX 2.2 keyboard and i just couldn't live without lol.
But if someone knows how to get that keyboard on the leaked GB rom, id switch back instantly.
The only reason I went to stock rom was because I was on GB and wanted to go back to liberty.

REMEMBER! if you ever want to reflash GB your must SBF if you used the monster zip to get back to froyo 2.2. The phone has issues otherwise?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
See this is just nonsense, Motorola and Verizon would BOTH have to bring out new user end agreements in order to be able to look onto your phone without it being illegal. They have no rights to a device that you buy, which means they can't track you period. If they do you can sue their asses for privacy as well as just general illegal searching. Simple as that

I think it sucks. The biggest thing in Gingerbread is sip calling which has been taken out. All they did was add pretty animations. HUGE disappointment

OK, so I just installed it and it worked like a charm! It runs beautifully and it is quite a bit more responsive in my opinion. I'm going to begin testing everything I can. Running the hell out of it lol.
EDIT: OK, so far I have only one complaint. The hard buttons at the bottom of the phone are now insanely bright. It isn't a serious problem, but it is definitely a significant difference that I would like to see options for.
The buttons have been overly bright on all of the Gingerbread leaks, and unfortunately they still don't work quite right, even on the OTA version. They turn off and never come back on. That's my only complaint about Gingerbread. Other than that, it's fast, smooth, and looks great. I looked at an Xperia Play today with more or less stock Gingerbread, and I have to say, it was kind of ugly compared to Gingerblur, in my opinion.
Gingerbread
So far it hasn't been too bad, but I am waiting on a ROM based off of .596.
Anyone have a link to this that is not downloading at like 10KBps or have the direct google server address? If I can ever get this stupid thing to finish downloading I am thinking of mirroring it on something that doesn't the stupid ad-bloated crap. Just going to throw it up on a directory on my web server.
OK finally got it downloaded will install it and see how it runs a bit before uploading the image.
I updated my droid x to the stock version of gingerbread last night. With the exception of a few totally unrelated incidents, it seems to be working great. Gingerbread seems to be snappy and the new ui tweaks are mostly welcome. I have not noticed a big difference between 595 & 596. Thanks to black hat team for their hard work.
They got rid of the 'Paste from Clipboard' option ...I used tthat a lot in Froyo. Does anyone know.a way to get that available?
