Well I was on the phone today with Dell Mobilty support telling them that my 3rd relacement is still freezing up and I want it replaced AGAIN..
The lady told me that they were made aware of the problem that people are having on Thursday (Finally) and that it has been escalated, and tht they are working on fixing it. She said I could go ahead and order my 4th replacement now or I could wait for a couple weeks and call back to see if it has been fixed and than order it.
I chose to order it now as I just assume that they relace the unit every week untill they get it right.
I thought the freezing problem had something to do w/ WP7 OS... Whats the built date on your 3rd unit. Please keep me updated about this issue.
Thanks.
The freeze issue is a Dell problem.
And the build date of the 3rd unit is 1-13-11

I've got the HD2 running the hacked WP7 ROM from DFT on a SanDisk class 4 8GB card... and I can tell you that it doesn't have the same freezing problem as the DVP. I have never, ever seen the People tile fill up all nine squares.
Seems like they need to fix how their 512mb of RAM is being addressed by the OS at a fundamental level. If one part of the OS is expecting the whole thing but another part is only providing half of it, that would explain a lot.

Is yours 16 or 8 gig?
16gig...
My 4th DVP will be here tomorrow
I'm on my second 16GB and I'm not having as many freezing issues. It seems like when I am on certain WiFi routers it will freeze more than my home router.
The only issues I'm always having is the Bluetooth not staying connected to my car or to a headset.
I have the HD2 now a HD7 that works flawlessly in my car so I hope an update will fix this.
I get a similar issue, though it seems to be worse in some phones than others--namely, when left overnight, the phone eventually "crashes" so that hitting the power button just flashes the three lights, but doesn't actually bring the screen back on.
Anyone else having a similar issue?
Also having the same freezing/crashing issue here. The only way to get the phone back is to yank the battery. I just spoke with Dell tech and they tell me they can't ship out new phones anymore because of this being a known issue. That I will have to wait for the March update that is supposed to fix things.
I also let her know about the RAM issue. I am only showing 225.02, and she said they ship with 256, not 512. I asked her why they specced it out at 512 on the site, as well as Msoft and every review, and she simply said she understands it has 256, and that it is what it is. Nothing I can do about it.
It's always good to have a company know what is going on with their products
Do carriers have the final say on what phones can receive the WP7 updates? I'm a little worried that T-Mobile may not push the updates into our Dell Venue Pro phones. I'm not 100% convinced T-Mobile supports this phone, despite the phone supporting T-Mobile's 3G bands.

They can block one update, but the next one has to be released, according to Microsoft. However MS initially promised that carriers would NOT have any power over updates so to be honest, it seems the carriers are the ones in total control of updates so anything could happen.

03/23/2011: I have been using the phone for about 22 hours with no problems. Before going to sleep, I never did put the phone to charge but the following morning the phone still had around 75% battery life. So I decided to have it charge for about an hour before leaving. When I went to check on the battery, the screen did not power back on. As Desynthesis mentioned, hitting the power button just once would just flash the lights of the back, windows and search icon. I held down the power button but neither would it shut down so I had to pull the battery. Is anyone continuously experiencing this issue on their Dell Venue Pro?

It happens once in a while on my otherwise stable phone. I can reboot it by holding power for about 10 or 20 seconds though - usually until the keyboard light turns off. I've never had to pull the battery.

Thanks pjfan75, I'll make sure to give that a try if it occurs again. I do have one question though. Would it matter if I have a password lock on my phone for this method to work?

Not sure. Are you able to power off the phone if it's locked with a password otherwise?

So I've tested it out and the phone does shut off even when it's password locked. So if the issue with the screen occurs again. I'll just use the method you mentioned earlier. Thanks!

Maybe there is a production fault?
It would be every untypical for HTC to launch a device of which the first builts do not have hardware issues.
Was the same with my TP.
Hardware keyboard, black paint coming off the housing, plastic cover coming off the hardware keys below the screen, ... .
Had to send it in for replacement three times, before I got finally one of the more mature builts, which had (and still has) no problems.
As I want to get the HD2 latest for Christmas, I guess I will still get one of the early builts, and have to go through the return procedure at least once or twice.
Is quite bad that this happens. Products shouldn't have to go through several return procedures because of faults.
They should just get it right first time. How many times do they produce prototypes and test models. It's quite annoying how these things crop up. Can't be hard to catch when manufacturing the phones.
Ok, I really don't have any clue about the differences between sim free and sold by a network, but could this have something to do with why it took/is taking so long for the networks to launch the phone ?
As I understand, they also do their own tests ?
Yeah basically networks like to do tonnes of software tests on the devices to make sure that everything is working properly before they release the phone themselves. Makes sense to do it that way instead of blind releasing a phone, not knowing how long they need to test it for however, is baffling. I don't know how they can't put a date on when it'll be done.

Networks will also bastardise the ROM/firmware to include there own logos, apps, shortcuts etc - they will even remove certain features.
Orange are a nightmare for that...and firmware releases are few and far between...

So, does that mean less chance of ending up with a faulty phone ( I know that they probably only try a few phones in each batch) ?

Well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
Yep mine had exactly the same problem. I sent it back and should hopefully have a new one on Monday.
Broken Up button Volume
Has anyone resolved the broken up button issue? I'm hoping that it can be fixed without having to exchange it because I bought mine overseas.
I sent mine back and they are replacing it. I probably could've fixed it myself but when you pay £500 for a new phone you expect it to be working properly.
hi,
today the same happend to me, after one week of use the up button died, for absolutly no reason. i used the buton mayby 10 times thats it.
I bought my HD2 a couple of weeks ago from my local shop and noticed straight away that the photos all had a big pink spot in the middle. The manager said he'd replace it as soon as he had stock back in (been very good).
I got a phone call this week to say replacement HD2 was waiting for me so I collected it yesterday and this one's camera works - yay... except it's volume up button doesn't work
So, time to replace it again whenever the next stock is in and I'm betting the 3rd phone will have a dodgy camera again, lol
So after convincing a friend to get this phone with Bell he is having this unresponsive issue with the phone. He returned the first phone after 2 days for a replacement as it had locked up several times. The replacement phone is doing the same thing.
Seeing as the second phone is doing the same thing he thought it might be because he is on the edge of the network constantly losing service. I suggested to try replacing the SIM card. Do either of these make sense or did he just get 2 bad phones in a row?
I've had my phone 5 or 6 weeks now and this has happened once.
edit: sorry guys I might not have fully explained what I meant by locking up at first. What I mean is that the phone is on and goes into sleep/stand by normally. Then when you try and wake it there is nothing that works. Non of the buttons will wake up the phone and holding the power button for 10+ seconds doesn't do anything either. I dont think it's a user error as I saw it happen on the second day and had to show him how to take the case and battery out.
I read something similar for a different phone on a different forum where the person called customer service and is sending them a new battery. Maybe he should call samsung if this continues.
User maybe at fault here, He might be doing something he's not telling you or even that he knows he's doing. Try installing a free app called NoBars from market, once no signal is found it won't continuestly poll radio .
Hi, try hold the powerup button till the phone reboot. No need take out battery.

He could just be unlucky. I got through 3 defective handsets in a row before getting one that didn't actually do this.
Also if pressing and holding the power button for 10-15 seconds doesn't reboot the phone (as suggested by lifeisjustgreat), you really do have to pull the battery. And btw, if the only way to revive the device is to pull the battery, that's a sign that it needs returning.
I'm using the bell version as well and starting having the same problem a few days ago after weeks of perfect operation. Turns out it was the tumblr app I'd installed. Once I deleted it the problem disappeared.
Your friend's issue might be a similar problem with an app they installed.

I did some searching around to find some answers related to these problems, but was unable to find anything so my apologies if this has been answered before.
Anyway, I've had my atrix for about 2.5 weeks now (through Bell) and twice now the screen has shut off, and I am unable to turn it back on. Swiping the fingerprint sensor or pressing the button on the top does absolutely nothing. Both times I've had to pull the back off and take the battery out to restart it, and then the phone works just fine.
My other problem is that when I connect my hdmi to my tv, the motorola logo shows up briefly (on the tv) for 2-3 seconds, then it disappears. The controls to navigate through my videos are there on my phone, but nothing displays on the tv. It worked before on my friend's tv the first day I got the phone, but apparently something is wrong.
Basically what I'm wondering is: is my phone defective? Am I able to fix these problems myself? Will an update to 2.3 (apparently coming out in July) fix these problems? Or should I just go back to the bell store and get a new phone. I'm wanting to try out rooting the phone to get rid of motoblur (which apparently increases speed and battery life) but if I'm going to have to return the phone anyway then I'll wait a few days.
Just to clarify, I have a motorola atrix from Bell. I guess there are a few differences between it and the one you get from AT&T.
Thanks!

It sounds defected, since you cannot turn the screen back on. I've never experienced that. I'd say just swap it for another if you can.
Yeah I've heard of a few glitchy/buggy things happening but this sounded to me like a defect for sure.
I'll head down to Bell on monday and get it taken care of.
As just another question on the side, I've been reading about hacking/modding/whatever you want to call it for the atrix and it sounds like fun! Are we able to unlock our bootloaders on Bell or is that just AT&T?

Alright well good to hear people are workin on it!
Thanks for the prompt reply
So here's the situation.
I had a mango beta2 installed on my DVP and to install the firmware update i reverted back to NoDo which I did with 2 tries. Then I tried to install the firmware update which failed like 6 times and at the last time, the phone was restarting, by Zune, and it wouldn't turn back on for a very long time. I canceled the update with the cancel button and disconnected the phone and couldn't have the phone to turn on since.
Whenever I tried to turn it on, the physical keyboard flashes. I though maybe it was out of juice so I charged it for 20 mintues which should turn on the phone automatically if it was working fine. I have the phone charging almost an hour by now and still can't power it up.
The keyboard is keep flashing away and the power wouldn't turn on!!!
Have you tried pulling the battery out for a few seconds. Then re-insert and try again.
Well, I tried pulling the battery out for a bit and putting it back in but that didn't work. As a final resort I call Dell and expained my situation and I will be sent for a replacement phone. They told me it would take about a 5 - 7 business days so for now I am using my HTC HD2 with nand android. Needless to say I miss my windows phone 7.
I am facing the exact same problem. and bloody dell's community forum isnt working.
mind sharing me what no. u used to contact dell.
also if u've bought ur DVP from India or overseas??

sorry for the late reply.
I called the Dell mobility support center. I got my phone but it's refurblished DVP which I am little iffy about but it's better than my almost 6 months old DVP I guess.
I got mine in the US with Tmobile as the carrier.
ok, I went there as well. they asked me to buy dell international support for 3000 Rs.
and asked me to produce an invoice.
WTF!
did they asked for the same from u?
I had this problem happen to me once. Plugged the phone in before bed and the next morning the alarm did not go off as the phone had shut down. I needed to pull the SIM card out and put it back in. Phone fired right up. Hope this helps anyone having the problem.
I've had this issue many times, first off i suggest you cool off, next, pull the battery out and literally wait 2 minutes
I had something similar yesterday (before the update) - first time. Managed to fix it using the instructions in the post below.

Seems fine now.

Even I have the same problem. I took it Dell Service center, they asked me to get international warranty and said they can only replace and won't be able to fix, since they are not trained to fix this phone.
When it rains it pours. In a previous thread I explained how my phone would not boot up. I ended up successfully doing a firmware upgrade through kies which erased everything and brought me back to kit kat.
I was downloading all my apps again in the play store when the phone froze. After waiting a few minutes I did a battery pull. The phone will not turn back on now. My battery was at 80% when it froze. I tried plugging it in and no lights come on. I have held the power button for over a minute and nothing. I tried holding power, home and volume up and nothing. I tried plugging it in the cpu and nothing. I have also left it alone to maybe cool down for a while and nothing.
I'm having a bad phone day and hope someone can help. Thanks.
I think your phone maybe faulty you should take it back to the retailer for a replacement if possible.
The same thing has happened to me as well, but this isn't the first issue that I've had with this phone nor is this the first phone that i have had issues with. I truly think there is a much bigger problem then we are aware of and it has nothing to do with the phone owners. I think there is something wrong with the phone itself; now what that is i don't know. But what i do know is that there are thousands of people who are all dealing with one issue or another. Many of those people are just like myself who pay good money for their phones and expect to the quality and service that their money should buy. But it doesn't and in the end it we are the one's who are ultimately paying the price. And i mean that literally.
Something needs to be done about this. I think its time that we the people start to use are voices and speak up. There are issues at hand and at the very least they need to be addressed and fixed. Furthermore it's time that some of the blame is taken off our shoulders and placed on those who are responsible. My email is: [email protected] If you would like to see something be done about this, please email me. I could use your support. Thank you.
P.T. Kenny
