HD2 Will Not Hard Reset - HD2 General

My friend gave me his HD2. The problem is he doesn't remember the lock screen code. I have an Evo 4G and figured I could load the HD2 into the "hboot" and reset it. I figured out the buttons I have to push and sadly its not working. I hit the Vol. Up and Vol. Down + the power button and all it does is start up. I haven't seen the multicolored screen I'm supposed to be seeing. I don't care how it has to be done, I just need this phone unlocked lol.
Thanks, Tyler

To perform a HTC HD2 Leo hard reset with buttons you should turn off the phone, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it. After that follow the instructions.

I tried that and it just starts up. It never goes into the reset screen.

Take the battery cover off and make sure your getting a good amount of pressure on both volume buttons.
If its still not working sounds like you might have a broken button.
Can you get to bootloader by holding only vol down and then powering on?

I tried it and it didn't work. crap...

Any other ways to get this thing reset?

i have the same problem.
i cannot connect to any pc and cannot get the phone into reset mode.
im running energyROM which has problems. it won't turn off.
ideas how to wipe this sucker?

Yes go to settings, I can not remember wich one it is under but it is a option in settings somewhere to do a factory reset that is what you are looking for. I am running Android now so I can not find it in my HD2, but it is there just look for it.

Unpack official (no Custom ROMs working) ROM to a folder on your PC, rename file RUU_signed.nbh to Leoimg.nbh, copy it to root directory of microSD card (preferrably less than 2GB ands Fat32 formatted), insert it in your phone (turned OFF), hold VolDown key and shortly press power button. Phone will start in bootloader mode and you have to press power button again to start flashing.
After end of flashing make a HR and enjoy.

Flash a new NRG ROM, and do NOT use XDA_UC. A flash removes everything in memory. Then you can see what is causing your issues by manually installing the cab files in XDA_UC. You should also install everything possible to the SD card to save space in system memory.
Also, check the memory BEFORE restoring contacts & etc. Those .vol files in the root directory can take up a lot of space.

I can flash the stock ROM by using 16GB Class10 card successfully.
The card was formatted by HD2 previously.

You can flash a custom ROM via SD card just the same as a official ROM it does not matter. You still have to have HSPL on hour HD2 first though or it will fail.

thx guys...
i can get it to the boot screen now.
must have had gunk build-up in the buttons or something.
i have downloaded the "T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_3.14.531.1" rom from T-mobile.
it's an .EXE file though.
QN: how do i get the RUU_signed.nbh as i need to reflash from my SD card.

Rename the .exe to .zip and then you can right click it and view the contents of the file. You will see the RUU file you need to copy and rename.

thx.
i'm now at the red, green, blue and white screen after holding down the vol and pressing power on.
i cannot get it to get to the boot loader stage to flash the image though.
the screen stays on

any ideas where i've gone wrong?

If you took the RUU_signed.nbh file and copied it then renamed it leoimg.nbh and placed it on the root of your SD card. (it has to be on the root of our SD card) Then the bootloader should automaticly say searching on the screen and then promt you to press the end button if you want to flash the image.
Just in case you do not know what the root of your SD card is. It is what you see when you first pull up your SD card in your phone or on the computer. The leoimg.nbh can not be in a folder on your SD card.

Think I've Bricked my phone

i went through and unlocked my phone using [GUIDE]How to Flash Your Vogue (CDMA Only!!!!) which was posted by egzthunder1
After that phone rebooted and was good, so next I did:
1) I formatted my 8GB card to a FAT32 partition
2) Created an andboot folder on root of sdcard and put the androidinstall.tar file in it
3) I downloaded the latest 320x480 nbh file and put it inside the ROMUtility folder and renamed it to RUU_signed.nbh
4) I ran ROMUpdateUtility.exe and it flashed the nbh file
5) As soon as it restarted, I held the Volume btn up
now the phone doesn't do anything, it Vibriates when you press the power button, then vibrates 2 more times really quick then nothing?
Can i do anything to get it working or is it better to toss it in the trash lol

IIRC, it's impossible to brick the 2.31 CoKe bootloader, I thought it write-protects itself.
Can you still reboot by holding the "Power" + "Camera" + "Hitting the reset button in the hole on the bottom using the stylus" all at the same time? You'll need to start your phone with the power button first, then do the button combination above to reboot into bootloader mode.
You should get a multi-colored screen. That means your phone isn't bricked.
You can then flash from there. You need a 2gb or less SD card (NOT SDHC). The stock 512 works fine. Name the file VOGUIMG.NBH, and put it on the root (formatted FAT32) of the SD card. Do the bootloader combination again, it will eventually detect the file on the card. If it doesn't, try again. Sometimes it takes me 3-4 tries before it detects the file.
You can also flash from this screen using the RUU_signed method, I believe.
You did unlock using CoKe 2.31, right? Not 0.41.
Ok that worked, now i just tried to flash it with NFSFAN's 6.5 21864 SYS/XIP V1.00 GENERIC CARRIER ROM
Now it gets to the Verizon Wireless screen and stops. any idea?

Before you flashed your phone, did you upgrade to the latest VzW ROM?
IIRC, the 2.31 Bootloader is for GPS ROMs. Search around www.ppcgeeks.com forums, your question/situation has probably already been answered there.
You should probably make sure the latest radio is flashed. On WinMobile bootup, it should say something like 3.42.50.

[Q] Have I bricked my HD2?

I was trying to follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
I got as far as installing MAGLDR. When the phone restarted itself, it will not go passed the O2 welcome screen.
A hard reset (VolUp + VolDown + power) doesn't work.
If I hold vol down while I power it up it goes to the Red,Green,Blue,White screen where it says:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE

CotullaHSPL 0x30
Can someone please advise me what, if anything I can do to get my phone working again?
Thanks.
no u are not bricked just reflash magdlr when its in the tri color screen vol down + power next time post in questions forums
Turn off phone by taking out battery and put it in
Then hold down vol down and then press off/end call button
should take you to coloured screen then connect to computer and it should say usb at bottom
then download the htc hd2 software off the htc site then flash the original software and should be back to normal
every nand build i test i do the following...
1. task 29
1b. flash radio
2. magldr
3. nand build
Are you holding end button while booting? that'll take you to magldr menu.
if it doesn't, then don't fear yet, cuz it's not bricked. Bircked is when you can't even turn it on, or it doesn't boot, or something like that. You can't even enter the rainbow screen when it's bricked.

It's cool that you're trying to help but this is how people brick their phones. It's obvious, from him posting on here, that he's panicking. He'll go to htc site and just download any official rom and if he has a tmousa hd2 he's bricked it now. Not saying he does but you have to be specific with people around here. You'd be surprise how many complete newbs are on here who Just refuse to bother searching and reading

listen just download a official rom from hd rom development
and then extract the file with 7z or winrar
you will see a nbh file
change it to as follows leoimg.nbh
place it on any empty micro sd card and insert it into the phone
and then restart with holding vol down
after the tricolor screen you will see a grey screen with options for updating your rom
just follow the instructions and you will install a new wm6 rom
after that follow the video and the instructions for the noobs on the hd2 nand rom development section ,download the video and follow it as it says you will be fine.
i have been through this and this is what i did and i am with gauners hd nand version on my hd2 running perfectly

There are a few methods to fix your problem actually,
Restore back to Factory Default with Official HTC firmware
Download Official HTC HD2 O2 firmware
Extract RUU_signed.nbh from the EXE file using 7-zip
Rename RUU_signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh and copy to the root directory of SD Card that is formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 and insert it into device
Power off your device
Hold onto the Volume Down Button and Power up the device
The bootloader will auto detect the leoimg.nbh file, and will start restoring back to default. This will restore your SPL, RADIO and FIRMWARE.
RED/GREEN/BLUE method
Power down the device
Hold Volume Down button and Power up the device
You will then see the RED/GREEN/BLUE screen
Connect the device via USB to your Computer
Wait for RED/GREEN/BLUE screen to show USB on the bottom instead of SERIAL
Run RADIO Upgrade (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 2.10.50 and ABOVE)
I am GUESSING, your RADIO version is incorrect, causing it to loop.
You must use HSPL 2.08
You must use RADIO version that supports 576mb of RAM
Radio Thread
Incidentally, you can also reflash the firmware to any WINMO custom or official firmware while in RED/GREEN/BLUE screen as long as the bottom says USB and the device is really connected to the computer via USB. It might overwrite MAGLDR, and it might boot back into the official or custom firmware.
xcesivemastub8ah, both method works, again, help is "FREELY" provided to people who are willing to take the advise. People need to understand, if they tinker with something, they can and will tinker it to death. If you don't want to brick it, don't mess with it, use it as intended by the manufacturers, stock original.

remove windows phone 7

I just bought an HD2 with windows phone 7 already installed. The guy i bought it from said that the phone came like that from the previous owner.
From what I can tell, windows phone 7 has been flashed to the nand/internal memory.
Can someone point me in the direction of where to look to remove this OS so that I can install the other wonderful Rom's developed for the HD2 (android, meego, etc)?
I've been looking around but i'm a little lost.
Thanks!
Personally i would seriously consider taking the HD2 back to its stock defaults and then work forward, the problem of using someone elses work is that you dont actually learn anything, which is what this commuinity is all about
So if you want my advice do an SD card flash of a stock ROM for your device
first things first, go to HTCs website
http://www.htc.com/europe/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=297&act=sd&cat=all
grab yourself a stock ROM (if you have a 1024MB version of the HD2 then be careful!)
extract the file you downloaded, use winrar or 7zip
- Take the "RUU_signed.nbh" and copy it to a blank SD card .
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- put that SD card in the HD2
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
- Follow directions
that should perform an SD card flash, meaning it will remove absolutely everything and start from scratch, ie Windows Mobile
you can then decide what you want to install and go from there
as a rule the process is HSPL>RADIO>(MAGLDR)>ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914924
has some general guides
but as a rule you should really just do to the thread of your chosen OS, that should have some stickys on how to do things and dont forget the wiki!
Thanks for your reply!

nope!
your holding down the power button arent you?
take out the battery
hold the vol DOWN key
put the battery in (keep holding down vol down)
then "tap" power button (push and let go) the phone will vibrate a bit
keep holding down the vol down key until the tri colour screen comes on, if you copied the .nbh file and renamed it too your SD card it "should" allow you to install it
i tried it to it stays on red green blue white serial.

yea...so once when you are on the 3 color screen why dont you simply go ahead connect your USB and flash a custom ROM ???
or if you want stock...copy the .nbh file in your SD Card...and the flashing will start automatically...get it ???
Whats your reason for wasnting to remove WP7?
I personally think its better than most roms, and a about tied with the energy rom.
try flashing Yukis V5 and you might prefer WP7

[Q] hd2 not booting and usb socket broken

Hi
My HD2 is not booting up. It just gets into a loop showing the materializing/de-materializing android symbol.
I have done both soft and hard resets, but cannot get it to boot. My other problem is that the USB socket is broken so I cannot connect it to a PC.
I am using an external battery charger to charge the battery and then having to insert the battery back into the HD2. The booting problem started when the battery ran out of power overnight while in the phone.
I have android aMAGDLR V1.13 build feb 1 2011 by Cotulla 2011. On the hard reset RGB screen it displays
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0X30
Then in the bottom white stripe it displays the word 'Serial'.
How can I get my phone to boot and then without the USB connection put the original windows 6.5 ROM back on so I can send it back to T mobile for repair as its still under warranty?
The other option is how can any trace of the android rom be wiped from the HD2 so I can send it for repair? I would just have to act stupid and blame the broken USB for wiping any ROM LOL.
I hope somone can help.

To return your phone to stock (including spl) -
1. Format your SD card using the format tool ON YOUR PHONE.
2. Download the correct firmware from your device from HTC official website
3. Open the .exe with winzip/winrar/7zip
4. Extract the RUU_Signed.nbh file
5. Rename the RUU_Signed.nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh (apparently caps is required)
6. Copy LEOIMG.nbh to the root of your SD card
7. Insert SD card into phone.
8. Boot into tri-colour bootloader (Hold vol down, tap power button but continue to hold vol down)
9. Release vol down when you see 'Searching...' on screen.
Your phone should boot to bootloader, notice theres a leoimg.nbh file on your SD card and flash the stock firmware you got from HTC. All data will be lost, as well as HSPL. You can then send your phone back for repair.
If this works for you please press the thanks button, its what keeps me lurking in the forums trying to help when I can =]
Thanks for the reply jwchips.
I cannot do step 1 as the phone will not boot so I cannot format the sd card using the phone.
I have the following original firmware from my phone- RUU_Leo_S_TMO_UK_3.14.110.1_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
Do I rename this file to 'LEOIMG.nbh' ?
How do I save this to ' root of my SD card' as apposed to copy and pasting into my sd card?
What if in step 9 'searching' does not appear? As in RGB so far nothing happens. I'm charging the battery and when fully charged will follow you instructions and hopefully I can save my phone and send it off for repair.
Can you boot to MAGLDR? Is there a format SD option in there? I'm a clk user so I'm not 100% sure what options MAGLDR has. If you cannot format via your phone try to format via windows (try fat32 first, if it fails to flash try fat. Theres conflicting arguements as to which one works, but you can't cause damage by formatting to the wrong type, the flash will simply fail at the end).
The RUU_Leo_S_blahblah sounds like the install file you downloaded from the htc website. Rename it from .exe to .zip, open with winzip/winrar/7zip and look for RUU_Signed.nbh. Rename that file to LEOIMG.nbh.
The root of your sd card means not in any folder. So sdcard/LEOIMG.nbh is ok, sdcard/firmware/LEOIMG.nbh is not.
If nothing happens... nothing happens. Worst case scenario is you've wasted some time. The only time where things can go wrong is when you are actually flashing the firmware, and flashing via sd card is the safest way to go (no accidently pulling out cables/powercuts etc).
You won't see 'Searching...' unless the bootloader has found the LOEIMG.nbh file. As you don't have it on your SD card yet, you won't see it
P.S. Theres a thanks button now you know
jwchips, its updating at the momment. Yippeee. Will keep you updated.

Thank you jwchips. I've got the phone working with the original (rubbish)winmo 6.5 installed. Now I will be taking it to the nearest T Mobile shop so it can be sent to be repaired before my warranty runs out. Then I will be getting either the HTC Titan or and most likely the Samsung Note.
Glad to hear everything went okay!

You might have a problem with your power button. I know with my HD2 I have to press my power button pretty firmly and hold it for just a second also I have press the button slightly off center. Try pressing the power button several times and with different amounts of pressure and in different positions on the button. Also have you considered flashing cLK via USB by using a custom RUU? Go to here to download the custom RUU and here to download the most recent version of cLK. Take and create a file on your computer and put the custom RUU in it and extract the .nbh file from the lk.zip and put the .nbh in the folder as well. Then right click the RUU and select run as administrator then just follow the on screen instructions. You can also use the custom RUU included in the HD2 NAND Toolkit if you want.

have you tried putting the stock ROM on your SD card and turning on to the bootloader?
I don't understand the problem. You are just trying to flash WM6.5 right?
