Hi
My HD2 is not booting up. It just gets into a loop showing the materializing/de-materializing android symbol.
I have done both soft and hard resets, but cannot get it to boot. My other problem is that the USB socket is broken so I cannot connect it to a PC.
I am using an external battery charger to charge the battery and then having to insert the battery back into the HD2. The booting problem started when the battery ran out of power overnight while in the phone.
I have android aMAGDLR V1.13 build feb 1 2011 by Cotulla 2011. On the hard reset RGB screen it displays
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0X30
Then in the bottom white stripe it displays the word 'Serial'.
How can I get my phone to boot and then without the USB connection put the original windows 6.5 ROM back on so I can send it back to T mobile for repair as its still under warranty?
The other option is how can any trace of the android rom be wiped from the HD2 so I can send it for repair? I would just have to act stupid and blame the broken USB for wiping any ROM LOL.
I hope somone can help.

To return your phone to stock (including spl) -
1. Format your SD card using the format tool ON YOUR PHONE.
2. Download the correct firmware from your device from HTC official website
3. Open the .exe with winzip/winrar/7zip
4. Extract the RUU_Signed.nbh file
5. Rename the RUU_Signed.nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh (apparently caps is required)
6. Copy LEOIMG.nbh to the root of your SD card
7. Insert SD card into phone.
8. Boot into tri-colour bootloader (Hold vol down, tap power button but continue to hold vol down)
9. Release vol down when you see 'Searching...' on screen.
Your phone should boot to bootloader, notice theres a leoimg.nbh file on your SD card and flash the stock firmware you got from HTC. All data will be lost, as well as HSPL. You can then send your phone back for repair.
If this works for you please press the thanks button, its what keeps me lurking in the forums trying to help when I can =]
Thanks for the reply jwchips.
I cannot do step 1 as the phone will not boot so I cannot format the sd card using the phone.
I have the following original firmware from my phone- RUU_Leo_S_TMO_UK_3.14.110.1_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
Do I rename this file to 'LEOIMG.nbh' ?
How do I save this to ' root of my SD card' as apposed to copy and pasting into my sd card?
What if in step 9 'searching' does not appear? As in RGB so far nothing happens. I'm charging the battery and when fully charged will follow you instructions and hopefully I can save my phone and send it off for repair.
Can you boot to MAGLDR? Is there a format SD option in there? I'm a clk user so I'm not 100% sure what options MAGLDR has. If you cannot format via your phone try to format via windows (try fat32 first, if it fails to flash try fat. Theres conflicting arguements as to which one works, but you can't cause damage by formatting to the wrong type, the flash will simply fail at the end).
The RUU_Leo_S_blahblah sounds like the install file you downloaded from the htc website. Rename it from .exe to .zip, open with winzip/winrar/7zip and look for RUU_Signed.nbh. Rename that file to LEOIMG.nbh.
The root of your sd card means not in any folder. So sdcard/LEOIMG.nbh is ok, sdcard/firmware/LEOIMG.nbh is not.
If nothing happens... nothing happens. Worst case scenario is you've wasted some time. The only time where things can go wrong is when you are actually flashing the firmware, and flashing via sd card is the safest way to go (no accidently pulling out cables/powercuts etc).
You won't see 'Searching...' unless the bootloader has found the LOEIMG.nbh file. As you don't have it on your SD card yet, you won't see it
P.S. Theres a thanks button now you know
jwchips, its updating at the momment. Yippeee. Will keep you updated.
jwchips, it has successfully updated. The screen shows the following:-
LEOIMG.nbh - OK
RADIO_V2 - OK
RCUST - OK
BOOTLOADER - OK
SPLASH1 - OK
OS - OK
CONFIGDATA --OK
RUU_WALLPAPER1 - OK
RUU_WALLPAPER2 - OK
Update Complete
UPDATE SUCCESS
Thank you jwchips. I've got the phone working with the original (rubbish)winmo 6.5 installed. Now I will be taking it to the nearest T Mobile shop so it can be sent to be repaired before my warranty runs out. Then I will be getting either the HTC Titan or and most likely the Samsung Note.
Glad to hear everything went okay!

this a reply for my problem?
the error is every time
see this picture
Pls try to format ur microsd to fat32 with default allocation size.
dont connect any cable when flashing using microsd.
you still have HSPL on the phone. I think you have to stop holding the down button as soon as it comes up to boot from the card but i'm not sure as i nearly bricked my phone the one time i tried to flash my phone using the sd card

is the error only visible on the bootloader screen or also in the roms you're running?
the exclamation mark you are talking about in an earlier post is most probably because you have a branded phone and you are trying to install a stock rom. this doesn't work with hspl when flashing from SD card because when flashing from sd you try to remove hspl with a rom which isn't compatible with your phone. because the rom is not compatible the upgrade or downgrade cannot complete without a goldcard.
do you still have the garbled display once you have installed a different rom via hspl/sspl, and after that try to reboot into bootloader?
Hello htc12345
the error is visible on the bootloader and in windows
without HSPL i geht the triangle to the on picture 3
yes the phone is an branded T-Mobile Germany Phone
so i think i have to wait for an official Provider ROM

Might be a lesson to all to make sure you have your stock ROM before diving head first into cooked ROMs...

i got this phone 1 day, and it's already dead
i installed hspl, and a custom wwe rom, it was working fine. But then it froze on me, when i tried to start opera, it said it was clearing the memory or something. When i rebooted the phone, at first it refused to boot, froze at the pink circle.
now i got it to boot a couple of times, and HTC sense is mostly gone, i get to see an ugly Win M version... I cant get the phone to connect, so i can reinstall another firmware ... what can i do?
It's just a pretty expensive flashlight now.

Try flashing it by SD card method
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
I tried
and failed.
I uploaded the nbh from your signature to my freshly formatted Fat32 microsd card
the tricolore screen came up. It said something about reading, and some digits at the top (005 something), back to the tricolore screen.
and now its been like that for about an hour... (PB81100 HX-BC

wow, i feel like a fool for not thinking about this
thanks a lot, works like a charm again!
no worries.
when you look in bootloader, if it says spl x.x.hspl then you can flash anything from usb. if it said x.x.0000 then it would only accept roms specific to your model/region/provider.
its worth remembering you can flash hspl from the bootloader screen too.
oh and when it was sticking at the pink circle,,,,,, almost certainly because you hadn't flashed a compatible radio.
if it happens again go into bootloader and flash the radio, just like flashing a rom.
i think giving your hd2 a hard reset will make it work again.
I did exactly the same thing. Have flashed ROMs before on other devices and foolishly plunged straight into to flashing my HD2 without reading the instructions carefully; i.e. check the battery level is >50%, ensure you have HardSPL'd and flash the correct radio version first.
I tried Energy ROM Build 21907 and had it working for a while until I powered off and then tried to switch on again and it froze with a pink circle showing. I had checked the radio version (2.04) but had not heeded the warning to use 2.07.50 or higher, avoid 2.xx.51 like the plague etc. Just plain hadn't followed instructions.
Doing a soft reset doesn't work.
Doing a hard reset doesn't work.
Hitting one's head against a wall does not work.
Following samsamuel's advice about plugging in after hard reset does work:
- Have your Windows PC ready but don't plug in the device yet
- Download CustomRUU.exe and the correct radio file
- Rename the radio file to RUU_signed.nbh
- Hold the device's Vol Down and Power keys, let em go and do a hard reset
- You'll see the tricolour screen and you should see HSPL near the top and "Serial" at the bottom
- Plug in the USB cable and "Serial" changes to "USB"
- Run CustomRUU on your PC and follow the instructions
Thank you very much, samsmuael, for rescuing me on this occasion.
I had a frightnening experience in the same vein today also.....
Decided to go for my first flash........which turned into 3...
Anyway I flashed an energy rom...........
Then a cleanex which left me unable to connect via activesync........
Had a quick panic.........got on here for some answers and found something about flashing via cable from bootloader.......... Panic over
Flashed to another energy rom.......... all is well again......
Only problem is what to flash next........
Hi All,
flashed the dft nand rom two nights ago - Android 2.2 is good but it's not all it's
cracked up to be.
ok so here's my problem - nand is running well on my telstra hd2 but every time in connect it to the computer i get an error with usb tethering (device driver software not successfully installed) also get and error with htc sync option (i've downloaded the latest sync software from htc but when i run that it say's can't find phone.
charge only and disk drive options seems to work ok.
can i re install/flash winmo from disk drive option as i can't get an active sink.
does anyone else have this problem and if so how did you get around it.
i'm running vista ultimate at home and had same probs at work with xp.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
rob
here is a driver for xp
if you want to back win mo then you flash win ROM by entering boot loader not required active sync. to enter boot loader manually power of device then press volume down button + power button after this boot screen(three color screen) will appear. now run ruu and flash your device with win rom
error 202 - boot loader screen
thanks for advise pvkanjiyani,
can get to boot loader screen no probs but every time i try to flash i keep getting an error 202 message - this happens both at work (xp) and home (vista)
i'm tring to flash stock telstra rom from htc site - is this the problem?
does anyone know?
thanks in advance
rob
check the data cable is good condition or try another data cable
which boot loader do you have
i don't think it's the data cable as i have 2 - 1 at home and 1 at work
is the boot loader info in the red section of the boot loader screen - if so it reads
pb81110 hx-bcspl-2.08.0000 8g xe
microP(led) 0x05
microP(touch) 0x30
thanks
Well, I would download an official HTC ROM from HTC's website.
I recommend a v1.xx or v2.xx, then extract the RUU_signed.nbh from the EXE file using 7-zip or something similiar.
Then rename the RUU_signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh, and copy it to a MicroSD card that is formatted in either FAT16 or FAT32.
Turn off the phone, hold the volume down button, then turn it back on.
This will WIPE EVERYTHING, including SPL, RADIO, and FIRMWARE.
right now i'm willing to try anything - have just downloaded the latest htc teletra rom and also 7-zip
do i need to format my sd card or can i just copy to card as is and reboot?
thanks
rob
still having troubles
Hi All,
i followed LiFE1688 advise to the letter but hit a glitch - when i restarted the phone while holding vol down button a white screen comes up with loading...
on it and it just sits there doing nothing.
can someone please advise if the sd card needs to be formatted clean with just the leoimg.nbh file on it.
or is it that i downloaded and copied the file with vista os and my sd is formatted to fat32
or if anyone knows of any other way it would be muchly appreciated.
thanks
Have been using dual boot (wp 6.5 & Android) for 5-6 months. Android stopped working from sd card. Decided to try wp 7. Installed LEO70_ROM, got product key from Microsoft for Windows Live, downloaded and installed Zune. Everything was great. Got message to upgrade. Thought nodo or mango would be better. Now I have no phone. I tried unsuccessfully to go back to wp 6.5, to upgrade. Yes I know I screw up, yes it's my fault, but it has been fun learning new things and it will probably cost me something in the end. Here is where I'm at and what I've tried.
1)Power on w/o sd card-Get triangle w/ Software update failed. Please try again.
2)Power on w/empty formatted sd card-above for 1 sec then jumps to bootloader with: HX-B3; SPL-3.03.0000 XE; MicroP(LED) 0x05; MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40 displayed.
3)Power on w/vol down-opens bootloader. Same as #2 w/RUUNBH in upper right and PB81120 before HX-B3; Upgrade ROM code error; please try again, Serial.
Microsoft Device Manager does not recognize phone, hard reset acts same as #2 above, errors out when I try to run HSPL or custom radio. Reformatted sd card (not sure about partitions-created primary). I would appreciate any help. Thks
have you tried to flash stock WinMO 6.5 rom from SD card?
download stock rom for your HD2
extract *.nbh file from exe and copy it on SD card, naming it LEOIMG.nbh
boot while hold vol down..
if this fails, i have no other options on my mind...
if it works, it overwrites everything.. so you ought to have stock WM6.5 and then you can go flashing again
Have you tried:
1 - take the battery out for a minute
2 - power the phone on, holding down the volume down button to boot into bootloader
3 - flash a stock 6.5 ROM
If this works, then you'll need
1 - to flash a .50 radio (2.12.50 etc...)
2 - flash magldr 1.13
3 - flash the backto the future WP7 rom by XboxMod and Yuki. The LEO70 ROM is the original WP7 ROM from DFT and isn't updateable via Zune
Thanks for the info. I tried to flash 'T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_3.14.531.1' but I think I need an earlier version. The only one I could find was a .exe file. Do you have a link to the correct one?

if this is the right file for your HD2, then open it with WinRAR or 7-zip. Inside you'll see NBH file. Then follow what o wrote
and, make sure that this is corret rom file for your HD2.
Thanks, Yes it it the correct rom. I downloaded it from Tmobile support. Called HTC to see if there was a different rom and they said that was the only one they had available. To fix it they said I would have to replace the motherboard and flash the rom. When I try flashing the rom I get a white screen with 'Loading...' . Nothing happens then.

Have you tried task29?
Use task 29 to clear everything, guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781 then go to HTC official site and under support search for upgrades and download the latest rom for your phone and flash it.
Good luck.
I tried to run Task29 but I got a bunch of errors. I think it is because Device Manager does not reconize my phone. Can I copy the RUU_signed.nbh file from the extracted .exe file to the sd card and run it from the boot loader? Does the file need to be renamed? Is there another file I can run from the sd card? Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks for the ideas.

Are you sure you have the correct rom?
In case it doesn’t have Windows Mobile installed or you can’t get ActiveSync to recognize it, put it into bootloader mode: A.Power off your HTC HD2.
B.Press the Volume-Down button on your phone, keep it pressed and press the Power button.
C.Keep both the buttons pressed until you see the red, green, blue and white bootloader screen and then release both buttons.
2.Now connect your phone to your PC via USB. If this is the first time you’re connecting your phone to the PC in bootloader mode, wait for the drivers to be installed automatically. The term ‘Serial’ in the white area of the screen should now change to ‘USB’.

I found a local person that is going to try to get my phone running. If he can't I will try what you suggest. Hope I can be back soon. It's geeat to be learning new things. Technology is great and thanks to everyone that helps the noobee's like me. Hope I can help in the future. You can't learn if you don't make mistakes.
ITS NOT BRICKED I CAN BET ON THIS
Even I had the same problem ,I downloaded the official t-mobile update exe, but since I have been using HTC phones rite from Imate jam to kjam to jasjam to diamond to topaz till Leo so I found easily how to go back to 6.5 and also done for few local people, what I did is
1 Extract the tmobile update exe (see for the version which has ver. 3.03.0000 , u can find it on www.shippedroms.com or google it ) then using winrar extrect its content on your pc and rename the file RUU_Signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh
2 copied this file to my storage card and (fast use I keep a 2gb sd card and formatted &place the leoimg.nbh file to root of sd card so it looks like only 1file in storage card &no folders or anything)
3 turn off the device put the sd card & keep pressing volume down button and press power button to turn it on this will take u to 3 colored screen for a few second and then who loading on while screen if u have a proper matching leoimg on sd card then it will show u the contents i.e.
Radio v2
Splash
Bootloader
configdata
Os
And a few more things
now press the power button once and u can see the progress bar may be it mite restart ur phone but don't thing it screwed it will resume the update process & u will be back to ur stock rom
1 important point for u is that download the rom version 3.03 as it seems to me that u already have a stock spl and if u put un compatable rom then it won't move ahead from loading
Hope it helps u
The HD2 Leo512mb i have had to be placed in such a way so the pins on the usb connector had connection to the main board, and data no longer worked. So I opened up the phone and found out that the usb connector was impossible to solder back on, so in that case I would have to order a new one.. Instead, i soldered the power from a usb cable directly to the main board on the phone and put it back together..
Booting up, it stops at the android logo...
If i try to hold down the power button to install a new rom in recovery from a zipfile, this message comes up
ANDROID LOAD at 11800000
from MicroSD
Load zImage
K: /zImage
ssSD kernel open failed
It flashes showing that screen for 1,5s and the recovery boot screen for 0,5sekond
I put the initrd-latest.gz downloaded from XDAndroid initramfs, renamed to initrd.gz to the root of the sdcard, and the last line of the loading changed to ''SD kernel open failed'' (no ss first)
I have aMAGLDR V1.13, Build Feb 1 2011 installed, and some Nandroid Cyanogenmodrom installed before it crashed. Doublechecked that everything is properly connected back again..
Is there anything to do with this, a file i could put into the SD-card? Heres a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CChE_-xbXA0
I have a Galaxy SII, but the HD2 would be great to have as a backup phone!

How about booting into the tricolor boot screen (Vol down + Power) and loading a stock T-Mobile Winmo rom? That will pretty much take out any SD card issues or Android related issues. If the rom flashes and the phone boots up, then there is something else going on.
But am I reading this right? Your usb connector is messed up? In that case, still try loading a stock winmo rom from a freshly formatted sd card. Instructions for doing that are easily found by search.

Correct! So i only have the charging part, and that makes flashing WinMo with the tricolor boot screen hard..
I think I remember how to install a rom to the sd card, but would that load up automatically, if its now automatically tries to load the kernel for the Nand installed androidrom?

Here are the instructions for how to flash a standard winmo rom using the SD card from this thread. Download the stock rom for your phone, and give it a try.
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
