remove windows phone 7 - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

I just bought an HD2 with windows phone 7 already installed. The guy i bought it from said that the phone came like that from the previous owner.
From what I can tell, windows phone 7 has been flashed to the nand/internal memory.
Can someone point me in the direction of where to look to remove this OS so that I can install the other wonderful Rom's developed for the HD2 (android, meego, etc)?
I've been looking around but i'm a little lost.
Thanks!

Personally i would seriously consider taking the HD2 back to its stock defaults and then work forward, the problem of using someone elses work is that you dont actually learn anything, which is what this commuinity is all about
So if you want my advice do an SD card flash of a stock ROM for your device
first things first, go to HTCs website
http://www.htc.com/europe/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=297&act=sd&cat=all
grab yourself a stock ROM (if you have a 1024MB version of the HD2 then be careful!)
extract the file you downloaded, use winrar or 7zip
- Take the "RUU_signed.nbh" and copy it to a blank SD card .
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- put that SD card in the HD2
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
- Follow directions
that should perform an SD card flash, meaning it will remove absolutely everything and start from scratch, ie Windows Mobile
you can then decide what you want to install and go from there
as a rule the process is HSPL>RADIO>(MAGLDR)>ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914924
has some general guides
but as a rule you should really just do to the thread of your chosen OS, that should have some stickys on how to do things and dont forget the wiki!

Thanks for your reply!
I seem to be stuck, when i hold "volume down + power" I get into this:
aMAGLDR V1.12
Boot Menu
1.Boot WPH
2.Boot AD SD
3.Boot AD NAND
4.USB Mass Stg
5.USB Flasher
6. USB TTY
7. AD Hardreset
8.Tetris
9.Servies
10. Reset
11. Powerdown

nope!
your holding down the power button arent you?
take out the battery
hold the vol DOWN key
put the battery in (keep holding down vol down)
then "tap" power button (push and let go) the phone will vibrate a bit
keep holding down the vol down key until the tri colour screen comes on, if you copied the .nbh file and renamed it too your SD card it "should" allow you to install it

i tried it to it stays on red green blue white serial.
i have installed win7 but want to loose it

yea...so once when you are on the 3 color screen why dont you simply go ahead connect your USB and flash a custom ROM ???
or if you want stock...copy the .nbh file in your SD Card...and the flashing will start automatically...get it ???

Whats your reason for wasnting to remove WP7?
I personally think its better than most roms, and a about tied with the energy rom.
try flashing Yukis V5 and you might prefer WP7

no connection

[Q] Cannot start bootloader, HD2 stuck on HTC logo screen

WM6.5 on my HD2 (from T-Mobile europe) has finally bothered me enough to decide to change the rom entirely, to android (NAND). I saw the instructions/video tutorial by techburrow (including the magldr v 1.11) and thought that it wouldn't give me too much troubles.
Before starting, I checked my ROM to see if it was recent enough. I as well installed hspl v 2.08 (as shown after taking battery out/in and using volume down + startbutton, in the rgbw screen).
After that I (think I) successfully installed MAGLDR v 1.11. It showed the comment that my phone was now "hacked".
I then went on to the most important step in the process, actually loading android. In the instructions for DFT_Android is states that:
" For installation you need enter MAGLDR (hold power button during boot)"
I tried getting into bootloader by holding the power button, I tried pressing it once and then holding it. Neither worked, both ended up with the HTC logo screen.
All I can do now is choose between getting the HTC logo and the rgbw screen showing hspl 2.08.
Hard reset also doesn't work, probably because MAGLDR deleted the original rom. Connecting through USB via the rgbw screen doesnt work, the connection is not recognised.
Other thread look similar problem, but haven't helped so far. Only the most recent are about others trying to get the android on NAND with MAGLDR 1.11 and DFT-Android.
HELP? Anybody has any idea on how I can install android any ROM now, how to get into the bootloader, how to use my HD2 again?
Looks like Magldr was not flash into the phone. Reflash magldr.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
unfortunately
Thx for the suggestion, xhanay. However, reflashing MAGLDR requires an activesync connection and/or USB connection via HSPL (only way my phone does anything). Cannot get any connection unfortunately. So no reflashing.
Any other suggestions? (reflashing via microSD?)
help!i have the really same problem!thx!
This is what I do:
1. Remove the battery, put it back
2. Hold VolDown key pressed while turn on the phone to enter Bootloader (tricolored screen)
3. Connect it to PC and wait for connection to change to USB
4. Flash radio 2.15.50.14
5. Hold VolDown key pressed after reboot to enter bootloader again.
6. Flash MAGLDR
7. Reboot
8. Hold Power button pressed > Select USB flasher ...
....and flash Android/Windows 7.
If USB connection is not recognized I suggest flashing a stock ROM using SD card.
See instructions here, chapter 3 - Flashing Via MicroSD Card
could just work
Thank you for the quick response. Hopefully I will make it all the way to step 8+ (with android and all apps coming along with it). Otherwise using the stock rom should help. Thx for the link.
Will let you know if it works.
Also post in the right section in the future
All worked. I had to reflash a custom ROM through the rgbw screen (apparently a custom ROM did synchronise via USB even though activesync didnt show anything). Then I reinstalled MAGLDR (which immediately sent me through to the bootlader screen). After I had some issues loading android (had to tag USB on in Activesync connection settings, make the connection, the tag USB off in the connection settings)... Now Android is running as I hoped it would. Great work and thanx to all that helped.
ps: Will try to use the right section next time. No promises that it will then be the right one however.
I have the same problem and tried this only to be sent back into magdlr where it just scrolls up and down with the volume key held down.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

[Q] noob question

which rom should i use?? and guide please
thank u
i am new so pls help
k first i recommend you use hyperdroid, typhoon, or if you want a sense rom then energy rom...i use hyperdroid(my sig) roms link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=928
read a tutorial first!
u need: hspl 4 to unlock phone, 2.15.50 radio, magdlr 1.13, and cwm recovery and the rom you want to run.
1. put your phone in bootloader mode ( while phone is powered down hold volume down and power button) and it will take you to a tri colour screen.
2.with your phone plugged in, it will look and search for the htc drivers and your phone will say usb on the bottom, and when it says that, run the HSPL.exe file you downloaded. this will hack your phone.
3. as soon as your phone reboots hold the volume down and power button to put it back in the tri colour screen. now install the 2.15. radio you downloaded by running the custom ruu, and this will install it for you.
4. now once again, once it completes put your phone into tri coulour screen again, and run magdlr. This will install magdlr for you as well, the bootloader that will replace the original. this is whats going to get you into nand android, or wp7 etc.
5. once thats done phone will reboot, and now it will reboot into magdlr. from here on, you will have to put your phone into usb flasher mode. the phone will install other usb drivers once you do that.
6. once thats done, while on usb flasher mode, install the recovery you downloaded, and using the dft installer, will install the recovery. follow the instructions ins the recovery flasher.
7. when thats down, in magdlr go into ad recovery, and this will put you into the Android recovery.
8. using your volume rocker, go down to mounts/storage, and mount usb/storage, and transfer your rom over to ur sd card.
9. unmount and go into "install zip from sd card." and choose the rom you just transferred. this will take a few minutes, just let it sit till it finishes.
10. once complete go into reboot phone. enjoy
Notes: on first boot, usually it will take a litle longer just sit and be paitent.
Make sure you download the rom that fits your phone ( tmobile version, or EU)
if i helped just hit the thanks button and u can pm me if u have any prob
thank you i will try that later
Nice elaboration walidhazem
Imo, don't go for sense roms, because the newer ones (3.0+) eat up your RAM and the phone become unusable with 100Mb Idle...

[Q] _noob_How do i install a nand rom over another?(need step-by-step instructions))

Hello !
I have bought an HD2 from a friend. He gave it to me with Android NAND CM7 gingerbread 2.3.5
I want to upgrade to another nand rom ,because, the 3g conn. does not work properly (the browser keeps loading, but goes nowhere),the wi-fi has very poor signal, the gallery doesn't load(it shows only the blurry bg).when i first got the phone, all of the functions mentioned above, worked smooth.I don't get it ,all i did was to install a few apps and games.
This is the reason i want another nand rom,but i don't know how to install it,it is something new for me(ex symbian user)
Or you can help me fix all the problems mentioned above ,if you know how.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, Follow below and you should be golden , to find specific files just searc xda-forums .
I was bored so i searched for you xP here you go:
Task29 ---------- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781
MAGLDR------------Attached
HD2ToolKit---------http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
1. Download Task29 from the ROM development thread
2. Boot phone into bootloader mode my starting with the device off, Press VOLUME DOWN button while powering up
3. Connect USB cable to phone, you should see the "serial" text change to "USB"
4. Run the task29.exe file and follow on screen instructions
5. The phone will reboot and all that will load will be the T-Mobile splash screen. Remove battery and reboot back into the Bootloader mode as listed above.
6. Find the latest MAGLDR and flash that. You will find that it will be a zip file. Extract all files to a known directory (Mine is on my desktop)
7. Run the "RomUpdateUtility.exe" file and follow on screen instructions
8. Let the device reboot normally
9. You will come to the MAGLDR screen and navigating with the volume buttons scroll down to "USB Flasher" and press the green call button.
10. Now this is where it gets tricky, i recommend using HD2ToolKit from here on out
11. This is where you will flash CWM Recovery which will allow you to install the ROM..... Each ROM has a unique Recovery partition size, find the size on the ROM thread, then select the same size in the list of sizes on the left side of your screen in the HD2ToolKit program.
12. Then you will see a button labeled "Repartition" click that button and follow the steps
13. Allow it to reboot, once back at the MAGLDR screen, select "AD Recovery"
14. Once in recovery, choose "install zip from sd card" by navigating with the volume rocker.
15. Once again using the volume rocker select the ZIP file corresponding to your ROM press the green call button and let it complete.
16. Once installed, select "reboot now" option in CWM recovery, you may need to press the back button once
17. Allow device to completely reboot and it should boot into the newly flashed android.
Any question feel free to ask!
I have a funny problem .My volume down button does not work,it is broken. It's something wrong if i enter the bootloader menu the other way?

Does volume up work? If so:
1. Backup all your data with Titanium backup
2. Boot into MAGLDR by holding down power button
3. Boot into 8. AD Recovery (CWM)
4. Wipe all data
5. Place the new ROM zip on your SD card
6. Select 'install zip from SD card' in CWM
This is all assuming your current ROM already has CWM. If it does, then the partitioning should already be fine. There's no need for the complicated Task29 etc., this could end up giving you bad blocks.
As for ROMs, I would recommend either a CM7 or MIUI ROM, such as Typhoon, Hyperdroid, Dorimanx's ROM, NDT MIUI etc.

As long as you can get into bootloader it doesnt matter which way you do it , also , just use the volume up to navigate amongst MAGLDR and CWM

If task29 can give bad blocks why do ALL devs recommend this before flashing their ROM ? Also i recommended flashing task29 as it will wipe everything clean since he said he's having lag issues and such.
However if you do not task29 be sure to not only wipe data partition but also dalvik-cache

Not so much a single task 29 but if you are trying ROMs out and Task29 every time you flash, eventually you'll f**k up your phone, plus it all is too much effort, I've been wiping data and repartitioning every time I try a new ROM and it's all worked fine for me. Just trying to share my advice
Although the lag issue is a fair point, but it doesn't hurt to try without a Task29 first

[Q] REALLY need help flashing MAGLDR !

I managed to flash a stock rom back, because i wanted to go to another ROM now. I have HSPL 2.08. installed and now i want to install MAGLDR 1.13. However, if i make activesync connection and i let the MAGLDR program install, the HD2 goes to bootloader, then shows the installation loading screen for half a second and then just goes back to bootloader. I just cant get MAGLDR installed and so i cant use my device, i really need help because I dont have a backup device, help plz!
HD2 Toolkit 4.2.0.1;
http://www.mediafire.com/?2qz0xa7xfxney47
Radio ROM 2.15.50.14;
http://www.mediafire.com/?1th8o158r2t6dba
And your Android ROM.....
This is use for NAND Android ROM installation.
First of all, Format your SDCARD like FAT32 with your PC . you must create over your sdcard ext3 or ext4 partition area size of 1Gb with a partition tool. Copy your Android ROM inside the FAT32 partition. Then insert it to your HTC.
If you have EU model HTC HD2 can continue.
1. Setup HD2 Toolkit in your PC(Win7) and start it.
2. Close your phone completly.
3. Push "Volume Down" button and "Call Off" button same time until your phone shows you 4 different colored screen. You must check if your HSPL is 2.08.HSPL.
4. Plug your phone to PC, and see "Serial" to "USB" sign.
5. HD2 Toolkit is our assistance. Push the "Task29" button and go on. it will fomat your phone. You must push the "Volume Down" button when you see %100 on the screen and wait until you see 4 colored screen. Of course you must check again "USB" sign.
6. Now, Unzip "Radio 2.15..zip" on your desktop, then you will have 2 files. Launch DAF.exe with Administrator rights using your right click.. Go on and push the "Volume Down" button when you see %100 on the screen and wait until you see 4 colored screen. check again "USB" sign.
7. Push the HD2 Toolkit "magldr" button and go on. Don't touch any thing this time, when it finished, it will open up with magldr.
8. Use volume up down button and select "4 USB Flash" mode with "Call answer" button. When you see on the screen "USB Flash......USB" then choose "System Partition Size (MAGLDR)=custom" and write "cache size (in MB)=5" (or whatever) left side on the HD2 Toolkit and push the "Repartition" button. Write correct partition number(for example 200). (some rom has 5/200/5.. it shows that (CWM size = 5MB/System size = 200MB/Cache size = 5MB)) and go on...
9. Reboot your HTC Device. When magldr screen show up, select "AD Recovery" with volume down-up, push the "Call Answer" button.
10. Select the "install zip file" and select "install zip from sdcard" and choose your rom and go on.
that's all..

To install MAGLDR, you must enter the tri-clour screen(bootloader).
1. Turn off your phone
2. While keeping the voloume down button pressed, turn it on. (Dont let the volume down button go until you see the tri-colour screen)
3. Then connect the phone to the pc via usb
4. Make sure the activesync connects.
5. The "serial" on the bootloader will change to "usb"(this part is on your phone)
6. Now flash MAGLDR
Hope it helps
Really appreciate the help but look, when i try Task 29 or anything else that needs the bootloader, it says USB in the bootloader screen, and i also hear the sound when you connect a usb to you windows pc. But then when I open task 29 i get connection errors. I am sure i have HSPL 2.08. I get connection errors with everything I try to flash; stock rom, task 29, magldr...
Have you ever try to run Task29 with "run as Administrator", or you should stop your antivirus.
or...
You can try to replace your driver with this one..
Google Android Drivers
http://d-h.st/jIk
Just tried all that, didnt work. Also task 29 cant make connection for some reason while USB is on the screen in bootloader..
But for some reason i did manage to flash the radio..
NVM, for some reason i just worked! thanks for the help!
i didn't do anything but i can just accept "thanks" button
well, if you could help me just 1 more time.. haha. Now when i try to install recovery with the DAF file, the USB Flasher mode just freezes.. cant flash it. what now?!
man,I think that one of your drivers may be effecting your HTC Driver. Don't touch anything when DAF is running.
mmmm.. your cable may be broken, don't touch it when in progress..
Or you must reboot your computer, sometimes it works.
Will try now, be right back !
Nope, didnt work.. closed as much processes as i could but still nothing.. getting desperate, dont have a phone tomorrow if I cant get it to work. Isnt there a way to install recovery without flasher mode? any other ideas?
sorry man.. check your "ActiveSync". and i don't have another idea..

You might have a problem with your power button. I know with my HD2 I have to press my power button pretty firmly and hold it for just a second also I have press the button slightly off center. Try pressing the power button several times and with different amounts of pressure and in different positions on the button. Also have you considered flashing cLK via USB by using a custom RUU? Go to here to download the custom RUU and here to download the most recent version of cLK. Take and create a file on your computer and put the custom RUU in it and extract the .nbh file from the lk.zip and put the .nbh in the folder as well. Then right click the RUU and select run as administrator then just follow the on screen instructions. You can also use the custom RUU included in the HD2 NAND Toolkit if you want.
