2 finger multitouch HD2 / 4 finger multitouch HD7 - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Will 2 finger multitouch ever be good on WP7 on the HD2? I noticed the multitouch driver on WP7 is not as good as the Android version. On Android it's possible to press one finger on the screen and after that the second and they are both registered correctly. In my observation the multitouch on WP7 for the HD2 works like WinMo 6.5. You have to touch the sceen with both fingers at the same time or it will not recognize multitouch. (Or dualtouch in this case.)
On a native WP7 device there is 4 point multitouch I believe...so the best multitouch for the HD2 would be like Android where you don't have to touch the sceen at the same time.
I tested the game 'Cell' where they there's a message 'Touch screen with 3 fingers to goto main menu'...which will never be possible on an HD2 because of the hardware limitations of the touchscreen.

While the HD2 may have multi-point touch, that post means nothing.
This would be the same HTC support that told people an official WP7 update would be coming, and other various nonsense over the years.
I would be very surprised if the peons on the support desk know the finer technical nuances of the hardware.

this thread was made by me along time ago , i'm happy some people still remember it , and about that these info may be not true , i asked htc in 4 different regions (us , france , germany , uk ) and they all confirmed that the 2 point are software limitation , and about wp7 , it was going to be released but microsoft changed their standards and mind , that is all

Hi,
Do you think that is possible to replace touchscreen driver files by thoses contained in the htc léo 08787 patch for wm6.5 ?
Tx

Impossible. WP7 has a completely different driver architecture.

Today I tested the HD2 multitouch touchscreen with a game called "Knots" which you need to touch the balls on the screen, and there are more than 2 balls on the screen... and guess! It doesn't work! Only for the 2 first balls. I think people from HTC are wrong when they say that is the software limits the true multitouch when I think it's the hardware that does it.

I agree, i'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. There will never be more than 2 point multitouch on the hd2... the capacitive touch controller the HD2 uses doesn't support more than 2 points. But, hopefully the drivers right now can be improved to make the 2 point touch work better than what it does right now.

If the right driver is not there, you will not get more than 2 finger multi-touch.
What you guys are saying does not prove it's a hardware limitation at all. Android doesn't have any app/game that uses 4 point, so of course the driver isn't there, but the device may still be hardware capable.
You guys need to understand that drivers affect how the software interacts with the hardware, and without correctly written drivers hardware won't work.

If it is not a hardware limitation, then who's going to write the drivers?
Has anyone ever managed to engineer a fully functional driver for, well, anything on XDA? I remember for the Kaiser there were multiple people trying to make a proper graphics driver and there was never a truly 100% functional one. We weren't able to provide TMC access to the radio on the HD2 - and that was on the native WM6.5
I wouldn't hold my breath for a new driver. Writing a driver for a piece of hardware we have absolutely no documentation on is hard enough. Couple that with writing for a brand new OS and it looks even less likely.
I'd be ecstatic to be proved wrong, though.

i like people who say its impossible !!!
cotulla is one of the people who can say impossible is nothing...
and i just belive in the future cotulla make lot of kids and give them his experience...
and we can have lot of PRO developers in the future
becouse for Russian people everithing is possible...
just need trink Vodka rulezz...
just support it..

Hi Guys,
I bought fruit ninja off Marketplace the other day. Some times it does register two slices on the screen. So it's most probably just a driver issue. 2 point Multitouch was enabled for Wm65 and this will eventually get to WP7 aswell. So be patient

It is a hardware limitation... ask any dev that has worked with touch drivers for the HD2. I can't remember exactly what touch sensor the hd2 has, but I know it's one that is only capable of 2 points touch. There was a lot of research done on this both when the hd2 first came out and they were developing multitouch sdk for the hd2, and when they were developing the linux kernel/android for the hd2 and cotulla had to write the touchscreen driver for it. The HD2 is not capable of more than 2 point multitouch.
HTC even made a big deal when the next gen devices came out (I think starting with the EVO) that they were using a new touch sensor that was capable of more than 2 point multitouch, which they never used on prior devices.

Imo, no or maybe yes! Yesterday i got my new HD7... multitouching is REALLY good.. On HD2 is harware limitation or something..

probably kernel related.

HD2 will NOT get an update to WP7 - confirmed at MIX10!

UPDATE!! Looks like this was not true and there will be no WP7 for HD2 at all.
There is still hope, you can help deciphering & hacking WP7 image:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647138
(if you really want WP7S on your beloved HD2, for me this whole new OS looks more like EPIC FAIL)
Hi,
I have just got an 'inside' information from a person close to MIX10 and I think it is pretty legitimate.
HD2 is going to get WP7 update, but in a bit different way that you may think. Soon after the conference MS will distribute unfinished, pre-release WP7 image that will be intended for devlopers, so they can test their apps on real hardware before proper devices are available (in the end of the year). Obviously because HD2 is the only device at the moment - and will be for a long time - that meets hardware requirements of WP7, this image will be intended for it.
It is still unclear if final, 'production' WP7 version will be released for HD2 when new OS is launched, but even if that is not the case, I am sure that chiefs will be able to somehow mix both versions together
According to my source this will be announced very, very soon at MIX10!
We can only hope i suppose =/

May just be me but the WP7 posts are getting a little bit boring and shouldn't they be in there Windows Phone 7 Series forum? Rather than having multi threads on essentially the same things.
Plus we get to buy all our apps . . . again.
Let's hope for a port anyway, whether official or not...
I'd like to believe you, but the MS devs were raving about the emulator that comes with the Phone developer tools... I dunno. Seems iffy but the existence of an emulator does not preclude the HD2 from getting a 'MIX' build - after all, you need to have the emulator around for a variety of reasons, namely the HD2 won't be available forever
im also watching mix10 and as far as i remember i heared somthing like "all of you who will have an wp7s device at the end of the conference".
could be the special dev-phone, as some folks guess, but i think an hd2 rom is the easiest and the most logical solution.
So i "guess" its possible. and by the way, i excpected silverlight for mobile for months and now its there and i like it.
Well these are the hardware specs, we don't meet the 'flash' space unless it counts SD.
I can't find any info on the Snapdragon GPU specs to see whether its DX9 or not!

Those hardware specs are basically the snapdragon specs with some ancillary stuff. Snapdragon includes the AMD z430, based on the 360s XENOS. Most confirmed WP7 devices are using snapdragon thus I expect the z430 will not be left out as far as directx9 support goes. It supports openGL es 2.0 so it has a unified pixel and vertex arch. I really don't think we are going to get an official port. But based on those specs, a hacked port doesn't seem unlikely at all.
PS does anyone know the hardware touch point limit on the HD2s digitizer?

these specifications are higher than hd2 specifications (impossible port)
Hmm, so these are the official specs?
From what I have understood while searching info about the Nexus One touchscreen issue, HTC has used the ClearPad 2000 touchscreens in their devices till now, which have only 2 finger limit. The ClearPad 3000 has a 10 fingers limit.
I don't know if the HD2 has the same ClearPad 2000 or not, but if it does not, that is one thing missing right? (correct me please if I am not right, but I think it says 4 finger is the minimum requirement)
Second, it says 'camera button required' from what I think to have seen. We do not have that.
Third, 8 GB flash... again, don't know about that.
Anyway, looks like it's MIX10 and we still do not have an official answer on if the HD2 will get 7 Series OS or not. I'm fine with it... and I think my future Desire is smiling as well
Anyway, 7 Series looks good. They did give us some nice new info about the OS.

Yes, but I was just intrigued to see the new OS running fine even though it lacks some major hardware as per Microsoft.
However on the off chance that it is running something live it does mean there is some form of test rom out there....somewhere. . . . . but i doubt it

Except that there are 99% chances the phone is actually off and dead or displaying a plain blue screen to allow image blending in postprocessing
i dont think that the pictures you see on the screen are real. usaly such things are made in post production. its much to complicated to film this situations in real life. so i think its no indicator for w7 ore not on hd2 anyhow.
regards mad
As much as I hate to up a not-so-useful thread
The idea is old... there has been a link posted somewhere here on the hd2 forums to a MS stage or something (and that was at least a month ago), where an infomercial for WM7 was done with a girl holding to her ear what definitely looked like an hd2, or at least a photoshopped one.
That doesn't bring you anywhere, since we have had different news elsewhere from an "official" source (check the other thread reagrding it) saying othrwise that WM7 will not be for hd2.
Anyhow, if you are so desperate to install a MS iphoneos wannabe on your already perfectly working WM6.5 hd2, I think there will be for sure a cooked rom with WM7 sooner or later. Afterall they are selling on aftermarket qtek 2020 alpines with winmo 6.5 on them....
It's Bill Gates, pissing in our collective ear: "Nyah, nyah; that'll teach you fellas to have two extra buttons".
to me is not looking like HD2 but if it's indeed HD2 for sure will be a rom for it here

Multi-Touch games/5 point Multi-Touch

I have a small question that I seem to not be able to find the answer for....
1) games that require Multi-Touch seem to not work on my device and i am curious as to why this is, is this a hardware limitation or just something that hasn't been enabled/working yet on current android builds. I have the Droid-X keyboard installed and working so this leads me to believe that multi touch games/apps should work to.
2) I have seen the Evo and the galaxy-s that have 5 point Multi-touch and was wondering of this is something that out our devices can do.
US Tmo HD2
Chuckydroidrom T-MOUS
and i jump FroyoStone_Sense_V2 & HyperDroidV1.2
Thanks.

I'm having the same issue.. If multi-touch is working on some Droid builds, could somebody kindly point out which builds support it? I'm currently on MDJ's newest Froyo Sense (based on Desire) and Modern Combat: Sandstorm doesn't work too well..
We get 2 points. See MultiTouch Visualizer in market for an example.

HD2 can only support 2-point multitouch (which most builds include, I haven't had a build without it), yet HTC messed up on the drivers so it's kinda flaky sometimes.
Yeah... it takes a bit to learn how to deal with it.. but at least it works.
I am playing sandstorm without issues. (any build worked so far )

The spec are pretty the same has Windows mobile...
Unlike microsoft usually do, there is no driver include in windows phone ?
similar is unfortunatly not good enough, the HD2 and Hd7 are very very similar, but they are not the same. Even within the same SoC there may be differences in Implementation.
The HD2 was used to trial the initial WP7 OS before the HD7 was made, so drivers were made, all be it poorly, without those drivers we wouldnt have WP7 on the HD2, even with them we have some considerable issues with it! i believe the HSPL was also easier to get working on the HD2 too compared to modern devices, i know nothing about that other than what ive heard.
oh an windows phone isnt like its desktop cousin, ms doesnt pump it full of drivers!
hardware limitation.....

[Q] Quitting the HD2 game - what next?

Hi guys!
I know there are quite a few posts like this but haven't found one yet reguarding the phones I am looking at so...
My HD2 is starting to get a little boring (working fine thou) so thinking of changing it! My requirements for a replacement are: Windows Phone native device (no Android device running a ported WP ROM or anything) and a full hardware QWERTY keyboard! Aparently that is quite hard to come by... The two devices that look best to me are: Dell Venue Pro and HTC 7 Pro
Thoughts?

There's a device suggestion thread in the General forum where you'll get far more replies. You're going to struggle if you need a physical keyboard, no high-end WP8 phone will have one AFAIK.

Oh thanks I didn't see that one before! Yeah I am starting to see that physical keyboards are a hard thing to come by today Even on Android the line-up is limited...
In the unlikely case that RIM succeed with bb10, you might still have some luck. However I think there's not much of a future in hardware keyboards.

A bluetooth keyboard may be your answer, you can get ones attached to a phone case which slides out.
Do they work on Windows Phone? They don't on 7.8 I can verify but don't know about 8?
