I just noticed a moment ago that when I tap my phone hard enough it turns off. For example sliding the kb open or setting it down on a table hard enough. I have to be real gentle with it now. And I have never been very rough with it its in great condition. I dropped it once on carpet a few months ago. But that's it. I have 2 batteries and I switch them out every other day. Could that have something to do with it? I really do not want to goto the sprint store and have the look at it because ill have to flash back to stock and deal with their lines and annoying staff. Anyone know what I can do to fix this issue?

Is it possible that you thumped it hard enough to knock it unconscious? Just kidding, sounds like you have a short somewhere.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
screw that. flash it back to stock and take it in. i wouldnt be able to deal with that.
^^ I agree
However, take a look at your battery contacts. One of my 3 is noticeably bent "differently" but not necessarily broken than the other 2 (although it's NEVER lost contact even in a fall). Maybe it's not maintaining the tension it needs to keep the connection.

Happens to me when I close the keyboard too hard so I put a piece of thin cardboard between the cover and battery to secure it even more and no more problem.

doesnt paper heat up the battery more? and i think the OP should place a claim on the phone (you should too). you people paid a lot for your phone and it should work (without putting cardboard)

your right I did pay alot for this phone and it should work properly without ghetto rigging it. It actually stopped for now idk what did it, I tried a number of things including pressing the battery in harder and that may of solved it, but I bet it does it again one day. plus I wouldnt mind having a brand new one if thats what they would do to fix it lol
That happened to me a couple times, but it was the extended batteries and thus generic cover that doesn't fit well to begin with.

Then don't cover the whole battery. Use a small strip runnin diagionaly and fasten it to back cover is it don't move around when u drop your phone again.
Try a little peice of paper in between the batt and the wall of batt hole.
Epoxy your battery in place.
Or u can stop abusing your phone.
Tell your phone your sorry..

Not anymore than sitting on my hip. Paper is an insulator so actually would help in Florida sun. But my issue is a $21 extended battery and extended back, not stock. So a small piece of cardboard helps to keep it really tight. Also probably because I have dropped my phone a few times.

LMAO!!!! Nice...think I will download a flowers jpg for my phone now.
My first epic did this. It's a manufacturing problem. I took it back and sprint replaced it. (I returned it the day after I bought it, though).
I have had this happen to me and all I did was flash a different rom. It seemed to be a had flash or the rom I was using. That is assuming you are rooted and running a custom rom. Give it a try. Flash something else and see if the problem goes away. Mine did.
I was on my way into the sprint store as I was restoring a different rom and after restoring i could not reproduce the power down when bumping or sliding keyboard. That's how I figured out it had to be the rom. I have not had it happen since, that was 5 months ago.
desire s turns off
Ive had my desire s for less than 2 months and ive had to leave it back for this reason. The slightest of taps to the bottom right corner and off it goes.
Estimated return time from the car phone warehouse is 1 month. whahahahah....
Mine does the same thing, bougt mine off ebay, esy fix I just took a very small piece of electrical tape, made it so its sticky on both sides and stuc it behind the battery

I had this problem also. Mine was one of the three contacta on the phone broke. The brass contacts that touch the battery.

Same here! With the stock battery it works fine, but with the extended to hard of a jolt will reset it.
all right. I've found various things about this on the web regarding other HTC phones, but I can't seem to find if anyone else has had this problem with their shift... This morning I realized that the "clear" button in the notification dropdown on CM7 wasn't working for me. I wrote it off as a weird bug. But then I tried to play angry birds, and I can't drag them back, they just fall right off the slingshot.
So I zoom in and I can pull the birds back, but when I get to this strip on the screen, they fly off without my picking my finger up.
Besides the clear button, screen presses generally seem to work, atleast when I'm selecting icons in landscape mode from my home screens. But the n1 style live wallpaper will respond to touches in this "strip" of screen by shooting off the lines around it instead of in it. Also, when I tried to drag to a different homescreen and stop in this strip, it will bounce back. same thing with notification bar. If I try to start dragging the screen from this "strip" I get no movement. The weird thing, of course is that this part of the screen isn't completey dead in terms of responding to touches, because it does register on my device that it is being touched, but drags, the notification menu clear button, the live wallpaper, and, of course, angry birds act funky when I use this part of the screen.
I guess I have to go back to sprint. I think I'm just going to flash a stock rom, but not unroot it.
I also don't have time, so I'm kind of just hoping it will go away.
ANYWAYS... anyone else having touchscreen issues with their HTC EVO shift?
PS: I think clocking my kernel at 800 instead of the 1200 I was using might have something to do with this?
Was running at 800 to preserve battery life, but back at 1200 after a nandroid restore and the problem seems fixed.
2 be clear, I had this issue on CM7 and MikFroyo, so I don't think it could be software related. But CPU clocking related.
Yeah, I also doubt that is the case.
My screen had a freek out. With out touching the screen it would open and close apps jump screens and when I touched the screen I would get no response at all. Had to RUU and send it in for a new phone it was in the connection with the screen. So the sooner you ask for a replacement the better.

did you just call? any tips? I'm wondering if I can handle this over the phone or not. Also - what did you do while you were waiting for the new phone to come in?
turns out it was the friggen screen protector. however, before I realized that I called my local repair shop and they said that they would be able to swap my phone out for a new/refurb one for $35. Too bad it isn't actually an issue, because I've noticed that the phone is a little less responsive to touch even with the screen protector off... it's just that its not clearly an issue at this point.
I actually had a similar issue with a replacement phone where the left side about 1/8" wouldn't respond (couldn't press q button on keyboard at all). After some research I found out about a great lil app to test screen touch response and any bad areas and it helped me diagnose that it in fact was the screen having a fault...look up "touch test" in the appstore and it should narrow down where and if your screen has a bad area that's not responding...it helped to get my in-store replacement in and out the store since I could show them the issue right away along side an in-store model. I hope this helps and I that I read the post correctly. Let me know if it helps you.

My screen had a dead line going across the middle of the screen but only when swiping side to side, for some reason vertically it was fine....
unrooted, went to sprint store repaired in less than 30 minutes...

Awesome tip, dude. This will help me get a replacement for sure. The issue came back and this is solid proof it exists. Gonna make it hard for anyone to pretend there isn't a problem. Thanks!

No problem...glad to help...it definitely saved me time...I installed it on my phone and the stores phone and compared them side by side...that way they can't give you a BS answer of "screen needs calibration" etc etc. Lemme know how it goes.

Sorry didn't respond faster. I just called them and they sent me a new phone next day and I sent them the old phone. Easy as pie no problems with the reps or the techs they didn't argue about it at all. It did take a long time on the phone because they were checking the phone settings no sure what this was but oh well. Just remember to ruu back.
Killer Shift
So they ended up still pretending that there wasn't an issue, saying that maybe it was just the touchtest app. It took a while to convince them that it wasn't just an app.. but after I left it with them for an hour (an hour where I'm sure they did nothin) I came back and showed them the issue again, compared it to the shift that they had, and they finally agreed to order me a refurb. A hassle, but a necessary one.

Agreed..It's awful how there is no set policies when it comes to service. Your fate pretty much rests with the tech you happen to get. Some are easy to get along with and some (obviously) aren't.

The Refurb is great... oh, and FYI - don't use displex on touchscreens hahaha.
Just to let other people know a little about my experiences so that it helps them.
Ok, normally when out and about I guard my phone quite fiercely, having lost many in the past due to theft, drunken stupidness or general carelessness. One evening last week, I was a little enebriated and on the way home had a fight with a bush. Phone came out of pocket and case, and hit the floor. I picked it up, checked for broken screen and put it back in its case and eventually got home in one piece.
Morning arrives, and I pick it up to make a call and noticed the phone battery cover was missing. I have ordered a replacement but have noticed some strange happenings since.
For example, although the battery may be in enough to keep the phone on (held with blutac right now) i noticed it wasnt charging. The led would come on and just flash green and orange, but no charge symbol. If I pushed the battery a little, it would then be ok. I also noticed when trying to use the camera, I would get a message saying something about the weather being too cold and not being able to use the flash. If I pushed the battery a little again, it would come back on.
The obvious problem I have until the cover arrives is wifi, as the cover has the wifi antenna on apparently so wifi connectivity is awful at the moment. Ive posted this in case anyone has anything similar and wondering what may be causing it.
Hope this is useful!
Thanks for making me laugh!
Are you sure you don't have a drinking problem
Thanks for the info anyway.
HAHAHA, maybe u should get yourself an otterbox for when u hit the sauce!
Order a silicon case/cover too with the batt cover .
But,to be serious, it is very much protective in case you have another fight with bush.

So I just received 2 different replacement hd2's the first 1 the screen wasn't put in correctly. So when the phone is powered on u can see thru the cracks around the sides of the phone. Now the 2nd replacement phone the screen looks flush and properly installed but still have the same look far as u can see light on the side of the screen around the whole phone. Its like its not properly sealed correctly. I'm worried a lil bit of liquid is going to seep in and short the phone out. And I don't have any more claims. What to do? Should I send this one back also or go to T-Mobile? Idk.... I'm frustrated

Hello guys,
I just went over my 14 day RMA period a few days ago.
However right now I want to exchange my device using the 1 year warranty primarily because the rattle has gotten worse. If I put my phone up to my ear or move it down the person sitting next to me can hear the rattle.
Secondly I put my phone in my jean pocket and one of the metal jean buttons put a deep scratch on it you can see that sucker a mile away! So much for gorilla glass!
Anyway my question is I have rev 11 which it looks like lg didn't mitigate the rattle or the mic static noise issue. Should I do the warranty now or wait till rev 12 is out? Also would they simply take my phone apart fix whatever is needed and send it back, meaning my pacific ocean trench deep scratch will stay? Or will they give me another device (note I'm over 14 day exchange period)? Also anyone have any idea when these flaws will be fixed?
Thanks

Revision versions are largely meaningless, and users bickering over something as trivial as that is pretty pointless as well. LG will almost definitely not give you a new phone as it is functioning as intended. They will certainly not fix a scratched screen as it was your fault not theirs. If anything, they might get rid of the rattle and send it back to you as it is.
There are metal buttons in the inside of your pocket? Sounds like another weak excuse to me.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The 14 day window is a return window, not RMA. You can RMA and exchange just about anytime for warranty purposes. The rattle might be a warranty issue but the scratch will not be. I think however they'd just ship you another device while fixing your broken one which someone will then get later (after they replace the scratch also however).

Really, have you seen the RMA thread? People are doing exchanges even for the slightest problems. Hell I have screen bleed, yellow screen, data drops in stock rom and 4 hours of battery life and I'm not complaining nor did I send my phone back 6 times for such purposes. I'm not making excuses for those because all of them can be fixed using kernels, application combinations or software updates (except the screen bleed which doesn't bother me at all)

I called for an RMA around a month after having my device. I had noticed pretty substantial light bleed although I was willing to let it slide. Then I got a big scratch on the back like you, and decided to call them and take issue with the light bleed. They ship you a replacement whilst putting a hold for the cost on your credit card. Once you receive the replacement you are to ship your old phone back.
I'm hoping they don't try and charge me for the scratch although some other thread on here said they expect general wear and tear such as minor dings and scratches. If the way in which they handled everything else with this launch is any indication then I doubt they will give me any trouble for this. They probably won't even be able to tell that it was mine when they receive it lol.
Anyways I'm still waiting on the RMA to ship out but I am expecting things to go smoothly. I've ordered a screen protector for the reverse side. Can't mess up that delicious oleographic coating on the front with a screen but the back scratches more easily, plus the added friction from a rubber screen will stop it from sliding all over the place.

Yep Im actually ordering my RMA tonight they sent me a link. Hopefully the new one doesn't have the rattle and static. Again it was LG's fault they made a phone with improper shielding and loose parts, so they can't deny anything. To all those bashing me I hope you understand this isn't because of a minor scratch- sure who wouldn't love a new phone. However the issues that my phone already had really pushed me towards getting a replacement. Sure I would love my scratch to be gone, but having a phone with out broken parts and a bad mic would be better. Please do not reply to this thread if you are gonna bash me. Thanks. Also to those that gave me good info. I appreciate it!

How do you identify the hardware revision? I RMA'd one where the buzzing was horrible, and hoping I get a rev 12. Not sure what rev this one is either.

Volume up+ power button and you should be able to see the rev. Rev_12 is non existent rev_11 is the latest you will get.
Anyways my second RMA is near perfect.
No mic static
Rattling is minimal
And the screen is great, yellowing went away I do have a nominal binned CPU but it really doesn't phase me since I do not tweak voltage settings anyway.

Thanks guys. Appears I have rev 11. It was volume down + power button by the way. My new RMA replacement should be in next week, hopefully it has fixed the speaker popping/static. That's about the only issue I have, btu drives me nuts when I'm using it as a phone.
