Hi All,
I m a big fan of SE (in spite of so many problems with updates etc)
But after SE's announcement of no future android upgrade, I am bit confused.
I am looking forward to Xperia ARC, its awesome device.
Can anyone suggest if there is any other phone available in the market to beat Xperia ARC's design and awesome features...
Love my X10i, but am looking at the motorolla Atrix, and the Droid Bionic for secondary phone, once I am due for an upgrade from our carrier.
Worth a quick google search!!
Best regards,
Chris

Yes, it is HSPA+ capable just like the X10. There is NOTHING CALLED 4G! This is false advertisement by U.S. carriers. Read this article for more info.

What?
X10 Arc is awesome in Design , but guyz don't get swept by its looks , its camera is still poor compared to even N95 , (i compared the samples ) and being it not even a dual core processor and no wifi n and not even a 1 GB RAM , doesnt have a 1080p video recording , and not a great battery as well .. i dont think its worth moving from X10i

From Xperia Arc white paper:
"Supported standards IEEE 802.11b/g/n and Wi-Fi™."

I think I'm going to wait for SE's Q2 flagship... that way I'll be able to see their new strategy with the Arc and see if they ditch those users as well

I have both.
5Ghz allows smoother transmission for media like movies IME. The connection is usually 300mbs while the 2.4 "N" is usually 75-150mbs but can bump to 250 if you bond. You can bond channels on both spectrum.
2.4 Ghz has to share with "B" devices and G devices as well as "N" devices. (Unless you configure it not to so) and will drop down to slower speeds to accommodate when those people are on. To do this you can't bond channels which increase the throughput. Bonding in the 2.4Ghz range can be a problem when there are many routers in the neighborhood as the router will constantly be trying to bring a second channel in and will certainly annoy the neighbor's reception if they are in range. Also not all N 2.4 devices can support bonding while I haven't come across a 5Ghz one that doesn't support bonded channels.
Actually at my home I don't serve "B" any longer, only "G" and "N" services. I am a tester for SamKnows and they gave me a Netgear "N" 3500L router, and I have a Linksys WRT610v2 that does dual band. So the Linksys offers two bands, a single channel "N" 2.4Ghz and a bonded "N" 5 Ghz and the Netgear does a "G" 2.4Ghz.
I have 30/5mbs service.

Eventhough the majority over here never takes a se again, i will definitely buy one as soon it hits the market here in Holland, i love the design of it and for me the specs are well enough.
Sent from my x32 using the licking write method....man I am thirsty now!
Why did they leave the ambient light sensor out? So if your standing in the sun, you need to go to the menu and turn the brightness up manually, or else you can't see a thing. Big flaw in my opinion. Someone at Sony Ericsson is making stupid mistakes. Even the old w810 had an ambient light sensor, and that was 5 years ago.
Im also convinced the SE arc is by far the best looking smartphone to date, although the specs look nice at THIS moment, they probably wont anymore once this device launches in a couple of months and as far as i know, here in belgium, such devices launch couple months later than in US.
So, by the summer, when it releases over here, this phone will be "outdated" compared to the other phones coming out in the same period.
I wont buy a SE ever again, their experience and customer service is far below standards.
My next phone will more be something like the Motorola Atrix 4G.
-2x 1ghz dual-core
-1gb ram
-HD camera
-front facing camera (although this is not really needed in my opinion)
-16gb internal + up to 32gb external
-1950 mwat battery
although it looks like overkill atm, this device will last much longer than the arc, only needs software update. (and we all know this probably wont even happen with the Arc...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8CgBdGCZk
You do have to sacrifice on the looks, but the inside will blow away every single device on the market.
I sooo damn want it

Might be an idea to update the first post then with said information, otherwise it's no different to the others that have links to the same information.
When looking at the screenshots of the UI and such I just can't get past the feeling that we X10 users should see the same improvements and tweaks as the Arc. I don't want to turn this into another SE-hatethread, but it just feels wrong. This being my first Android, and smartphone in general, I feel a bit disappointed. But well, I guess you get what you buy.
People who are getting it should be rich to spend a lot of money each 10 months SE releases a successor of their trend phone!
Unfortunately, I'm not rich but besides that, I rather to wait at least one and a half year to get a new phone. I wonder how advanced the smartphones will be by then, and what place the Xperia Arc will have in that time.
Oh, wait... It's gonna be obsolete 'cause it's gonna have a successor already in January 2012!
Seriously, Im not flaming... But I just wish good look to you guys with arc. Hope that SE doesn't do the same mistakes and gives to arc good updates, at least two Android upgrades and more time before replaces it with a new phone.

+1. No doubt it's a really nice phone, but as every other X10 owner knows they dropped the ball with this one, so I'm in no rush to go upgrade just yet.
We have all complained about the first SE android phone the x10, but if we are honest may of us will be upgrading to this baby when our contracts are up.
Lets not forgot SE's first go at the android market, the x10, has not been a bad attempt. If we are honest we all knew that they would not support it for long as they would move on very quickly to the put all they learnt into the next big hope.
And this phone is gorgeous I can quite happy to have the rubbish support, poor customer service and all the other mistakes se made because this phone looks damn good.
While XDA is around if we are honest we couldnt care less about se support as we have this place and it caters for all we need,

I highly doubt many of us will be upgrading to the Arc. From what I've been reading, many existing X10 customers who would frequent forums like this or blog/tweet about their phones (ie: those somewhat more advanced users) have already told SE to go forth an multiply.

Looks aren't everything. Sure, SE makes good looking phones, but what good is that when they saddle the usability with crapware and poor support. It's like having a Porsche with a 150hp engine, what's the point. Besides, if you keep your phone protected by any sort of case or skin, the looks don't matter much when they're covered up. If we wanted something pretty and useless with poor support, we'd by an iPhone.
I love XDA and all the hard work people here have put into improving the X10. But that doesn't excuse SE form having to support their own customers.
On a related note: I have requested with mikechannon that a Xperia Arc forum be setup so that the X10 forum can be kept to X10 discussion.

So you know, go ahead get latest SE thing and get once more outdated the first. Is there in the market any snapdragon stuck in ecclair??? oh yes my x10...
So the next year I am pretty sure if I read one topic of this "new" phone it will be about some update not being ported to arch, although it is capable of this and more.
I think no one should buy a new SE handset, till they change their customer policy. But I know it is an entellechia...

if u want power along with beauty go for Samsung Galaxy S2 (the best phone available right now)... latest hardware shouldnt be outdated for another 10-12 months... btw some of the TOP devs at XDA are already working on SGS2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1058
lg 2x (aka G2x) has got good hardware but they have wasted a lot of space on the handset design... i have tested it and the display/screen is only 4'' but the whole device feels unnecessarily bulky/big almost as big as the 4.3'' ones... the touch sensitive buttons are not really very sensitive and require a little fiddling to get them to work (especially HOME button)...
if u just want to go for the looks of the Arc only then buy it... already outdated hardware... it is already 8-10 months old (MSM7230/QSD8255)...

1 second faster?? lol
Where are you getting these numbers?
Also, 1 second of speed for a cpu makes a hell of a difference, one second of lag vs. one second of no lag.
It is 2-3 times more powerful and has at least double the quadrant score and linpack.
The cpu/gpu is a current gen vs. an outdated one.
You can think whatever you want, but electronics is my job/field.
The sgs2 is far more advanced than the arc.

It wasn't bad, but they pushed off releasing it so far that by then it was falling behind, especially with the version of android.
Then they release their new batch of phones, a full generation behind what the technology is shifting to.
I love my x10 still, but I'm definitely not impressed with SE's latest offerings. They're going to have to do/release something major to get me to buy an SE phone for my next phone

As my X10 seems to have terminal faults and is forever in the 'phone hospital' being repaired, what phone should I replace it with?
All suggestions gratefully received. Requirements below.
1. A phone (with excellent call quality and sound)
2. Reliable 2G connection as 3G is poor in my area
3. Decent battery life. (ie NOT one day)
4. Music player.
I have no interest in gaming but do require Nav. of some sort and internet access but NOT Facebook/Twitter/You Tube
Thanks.

Samsung Galaxy S/S2, Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray/Arc. Stay away from the Droids and most HTCs...battery life is terrible. The Sensation seems ok though.
In my opinion You need something from Nokia. Symbian will be better for your needs than Android.
Isn't Symbian gone?
Take some model with a screen that is 3.5 inch or smaller. 3-3.5 inch should be sufficient for most things.
My battery usually uses 80-95% to power the display, rest mostly wifi.
Most touchscreen devices do.
I heard the Neo has great battery life.
I just checked my battery, its on 80%. About half is on display, a third wifi, rest phone inactive or mobile standby.
If you turn off wifi when you don't need it and always keep your phone on 2g, you should have great battery life.
The Motorola Defy Plus with the 1700mAh battery would be another option. It is not due out till October though.
Slower processor, lower pixel count and smaller screen will generally mean less power consumption. You can do a lot with software/services to save power too though.

As much as i have my issue's with SE..
I really hope they don't go out of business.
It's our own fault for choosing the x10 and it's our fault for not checking what chipset it's based on.
And i will say that the GB update has made the x10 way more in line with what i expected as currently the roms we have are way smoother that ever before.
I do love the mini pro line of phones that SE made they are pretty damb wicked for their size.
But i will not buy another SE device till i am certain that they have changed for the better.
But you seriously cannot go wrong with the SGS2 and newer Tegra2 based devices.
I haven't used any Motorola or HTC devices so i cannot comment on them.

Are you on Orange in the shire by any chance? I am and the 3g is a joke 2g is almost as bad. Vodafone looks better. If you search network with your phone you will see which network will be best for you.
The x10 has real issues with overheating in poor signal areas. Perhaps the network is the issue not the phone.

If your with ATT, the best replacement for the x10 is the ATRIX at the moment. Performance wise.

Don't believe the Q was he needed a better phone than the x10 right?
If he only needs a proper music player, excellent call volume, long battery life and reliable 2g networking. I believe i have an old N95 lying around here somewhere wich would fit his needs. It even has Navigation, although it's nokia's XD
Can someone make the comparison? I am an xperia arc owner and i want to switch to iPhone4S.
Ones a good phone, the other is a Fisher Price phone, in that order.

arc:
single core, 1ghz. 8mp with xmor censor & mobile bravia engine.
iphone4s :
The faster dual-core A5 chip. The 8MP camera with all-new optics also shoots 1080p HD video. And introducing Siri. It's the most amazing iPhone yet.
the question is, do you really need dual-core ?
if the answer is yes, then go get the iphone4s or samsung s2.
if the answer is no, then go get arc.

Last week I tested the iPhone 4 next to my Arc on the newest stock rom and the Arc was better with everything, bigger screen, better reception (both on the same carrier next to each other), faster menu and opening of apps and faster internet, the camera was also better..
iPhone 4s has the same camera as the Arc and a dualcore processor on a lower (800mHz?) frequency.
The Arc now costs 364,- euro in Holland and the iPhone 4 (16GB) 535,- euro
But the new iPhone 4S will cost around 700 or 800 euro's for the 16GB version..
So for twice the amount of money you get a phone that's just a little bit faster with a smaller screen (ok better resolution, but on a small screen) with about the same camera and a totally closed OS with no widgets and shortcuts to settings and other handy stuff...
I'm happy with my Arc and will probably go for the follow up of the Arc S next year.

And it's that at the end of the day that should factor in your decision. I can't deny the iPhone4 is actually a beautiful device but in terms of customization and modding regardless whether it's just a few speed tweaks here or there or an all out custom ROM, it's crap, and aimed at the masses, Android however is for individuals.
Has the iPhone 4S really the same camera as the Arc?
I'd say go with the Arc because of the bigber screen.
Apple/iOS is just better for tablets imo

siri is a voice assistant app in the iphone 5 which you can give it commands (speak to the phone) to do some tasks on your iphone
O. I think android can do it too. Right? Just like voice search or voice command, right? (I don't use this either)

Arc is better iphone 4s is the same as the 4 but only difference is dual core processor that are used in their ipad 2 and camera should not be so different ...

Oh yea the arc has video calls front facing camera, and we can play games With another person using and arc, lol I know that you guys love the Arc but you can not compare it with the iphone, I'm not saying that the Arc is bad but by next year Sony will improve and if they get rid of the plastic I believe sony will come out with an iPhone killer but not today

Sent from my LT15i using XDA Premium App
I've both the iPhone 4 and Arc and I love both however if I had to choose one I'll pick IPhone any day simply because of simplicity and ease of use, it really just works whereas Arc is better if you like the customization and tinkering with Android+bigger screen but at many times when it doesnt work as it is suppose to work I just want to throw it out of window and scream with full force to release the frustration may be I'm just getting older but I want to keep everything simple that just works and iPhone does that for me.
Choose whatever suits you better after all it's your money

Re: [info] know your phone
So I don't see cdma radio support. So this means it's not coming to Verizon? I'm looking to buy a phone soon this year on Verizon but I don't want anything that is out right now so I'm waiting to see what's going to be released.
I hate how they keep everything a mystery with phones.

No CDMA phones from Sony right now. Verizon and Sprint are quite backwards, CDMA is in all ways inferior to GSM. It's also too small a market to be interesting to invest in for Sony right now.

Sorry? It'll be cheaper than the outright price of the S3 within a couple of months (once launch pricing settles). This is for a more powerful phone, much better screen, much better camera, waterproof etc. Go buy an S3 if you want, I don't really care.. but no need to be hatin'

You know, your post is really helpful, but for this line. Why is everyone on the Z Forums comparing it with some other phone? As if the Android/ iOS war wasnt silly enough, we now have Android/ Android wars
EDIT: Why don't you make the features into a tabular format. Maybe include the ZL to the side too? Many (like me ) are considering the ZL too.

It'll be announced in a couple of months, add another month before it hits the stores. The Xperia Z will be available in a month. By the time the S4 hits the market the price for the Xperia Z will have dropped and it'll most likely just be a better deal overall.

Yes, the quad A15 will be more powerful and I'm fully aware of that. However the reasons I won't buy a samsung today will still be the same when the s4 arrives (stupid plastic build, screwed up/non-existent source, terrible dev support). Some things are just more important outright power - and the S4pro is still very powerful.

In australia the S3 is only just cheaper than the price for an Xperia Z - the 4G SGSIII is actually more! The S4 will absolutely be more expensive on launch than the Xperia Z.
