The colours are often tooo dark and unnatural on the sgs2. There is not nuch loading diffrence between the Arc and Sgs2. The qrc screen has more natural colour that look great! So defibetely the arc.

if u want power along with beauty go for Samsung Galaxy S2 (the best phone available right now)... latest hardware shouldnt be outdated for another 10-12 months... btw some of the TOP devs at XDA are already working on SGS2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1058
lg 2x (aka G2x) has got good hardware but they have wasted a lot of space on the handset design... i have tested it and the display/screen is only 4'' but the whole device feels unnecessarily bulky/big almost as big as the 4.3'' ones... the touch sensitive buttons are not really very sensitive and require a little fiddling to get them to work (especially HOME button)...
if u just want to go for the looks of the Arc only then buy it... already outdated hardware... it is already 8-10 months old (MSM7230/QSD8255)...

The sgs2 beats the arc in every possible area, except MAYBE camera, and even that is debatable.

You'd be stupid to buy an arc right now imo.
SG2 is your best option for now but personally I'm waiting for SE to come up with a good xperia phone (hardware-wise) because although Sg2 is really powerful with impressive specs imo it hasn't got style at all

By the time they put a dual core out, quad core phones will be out.
SE is always one step behind the game for some reason, they definitely aren't innovators

1 second faster?? lol
Where are you getting these numbers?
Also, 1 second of speed for a cpu makes a hell of a difference, one second of lag vs. one second of no lag.
It is 2-3 times more powerful and has at least double the quadrant score and linpack.
The cpu/gpu is a current gen vs. an outdated one.
You can think whatever you want, but electronics is my job/field.
The sgs2 is far more advanced than the arc.

It wasn't bad, but they pushed off releasing it so far that by then it was falling behind, especially with the version of android.
Then they release their new batch of phones, a full generation behind what the technology is shifting to.
I love my x10 still, but I'm definitely not impressed with SE's latest offerings. They're going to have to do/release something major to get me to buy an SE phone for my next phone

the dual core chips (MSM8660/Terga2) were already available they should have atleast kept the "Flagship" phones i.e. the Arc & Play with latest hardware and kept the rest on single core (MSM7230/QSD8255)...
BTW i already have the Arc, its a beautiful device but not really that powerful...

So plz help me guys n wht u think and also would 2.1 would it.bring camera flash?
First of all 2.1 isn't going bring camera flash.. that's hardware related, and second why did you buy x10, when you knew it had 1.6 on it?
Flash:
Download Vignette from the market.
X10 vs Galaxy:
My mate bight a galaxy S two weeks ago and is already sending it in for replacement.
1.6 vs 2.1:
If you can't wait a few more weeks, then I highly doubt you'll be keeping either of those phones because of the compulsive need to always upgrade. Kinda defeats the purpose, really.

HTC fan, he bought the X10 probably because the Desire and the Galaxy S were announced for Canada only recently.
If you can get the Galaxy S for only slightly more than the X10, then I recommend it even though I'm an X10 owner and fan. The Hummingbird CPU, extra RAM, 8Gb onboard ROM, S-AMOLED screen, 2.1 (with 2.2 coming in September) make it superior to the X10. Sorry, but that's the truth.
As for the Desire, I would stay with the X10.
P.S. before I get flamed, I have no intention of moving to the Galaxy S.
^ 100% Agree.
Yea when 2.1 comes to the X10 all our problems will be over. I wont even have to work anymore probably. It will be such an amazing thing that if I were to accidentally drop my phone from 40 Ft. it will bounce right back into my pocket (unharmed). I am so tired of ppl *****ing about 1.6 vs 2.1/2.2. Get the FU** over it already. There are so many more things in the world to be concerned with. Just my opinion though.
@htc fan89 i bought my x10 3 months ago i didnt had knowledge of android or what 1.6 was. i can wait 3 weeks or whatever but is it official that its coming this month or its just people saying it .
I'm just tried of people crying for 2.1...that's all

Nicely put
We're always going to have the need to upgrade to the latest android smartphone just to get the full potential. It's a never ending cycle, and unfortunately I'm a victim. I think I will stick with the Xperia X10 since I've gone through so much with it and although it is my 5th Android phone, I've learned most about Android capabilities from the X10. It's a good phone, I'm sure in a few months something awesome will come in Canada and we all going to want it. I've tried selling my phone but the resell value is just ridiculous. I'll be sticking with the X10, even though I love Super AMOLED. I want to be around when the bootloader gets cracked.
What is the resale value of X10?
I'm not going to do it anyway ... i'm just curious.
My next will be one of those dual core smartphones which most likely will be launched next summer
And if we don't get dualcore, at least we will have 1.5Ghz
Resale is about $300 cdn if that. Theres tonnes of them up on kijiji and craigslist.

Not entirely sure about that. First thing is that it would drain the battery a lot more. Secondly it's not really needed for the most part.
We already have DSPs and dedicated chips that handles much of the heavy lifting like sound, video, graphics etc. Unless you're doing _heavy_ multitasking on your phone the performance increase would be minimal. And given that Android is pretty good at allocating resources you'd probably be better off with more RAM in the future rather than a new CPU.

I'm interested in the deverlopment as well. I think we're going to see a period of increased power, much like the Ghz wars of the past ten years. After that we're probably going to see more effort being put into better battery-life and increased portability. Much like Laptops are becoming the norm for computers I think Smartphones (or rather their descendants) are going to replace Laptops as the daily computing platform.
A major part of todays interweb users could probably switch from using computers to smartphones without losing any functionality. Just attach a larger screen and a bluetooth keyboard and you can Facebook, mail, surf the web, watch youtube, play casual games and enjoy media.

Hang on, below spec for version 3? You're whining over a recommendation, not requirement, for an OS update that will come out six months after the device was released? Sheesh, some people really need to learn how to have realistic expectations.
fair enough of the v 3 "requirement" RAM is still well below the others anyway ... what really is so good about this phone? timescape... not a chance... mediascape umm.... screen, a little bigger but not a OLED or anything super.... in call volume is terrible.... outdated software and **** support.
X10 isnt top and thats all there is to it! however... coming from 6.5win this still kicks its ass.

The support being **** isn't really fair, we've had more than one update every month that fixes a lot of issues so the support isn't bad. The outdated software has a point but the OS shipped with the phone is being updated and we're going to see a new OS in a matter of weeks.
OLED? I can go on for pages about it but I'll just mention two points. Sunlight and bad resolution.
It's totally crap in sunlight, even more so than any other screen I've experienced. I've tried to use the Desire in sunlight but even max brightness and shading it with my hand didn't help.
The resolution is crap. Period. Not only does it have a effective lower resolution when you use it compared to counting the actual pixels but it also makes text and high contrast graphics really blurry. If you have an oled display nearby I invite you to look closely at black text on white background on both it and a tft display and compare them. Even though the difference is smaller when look at from a distance many have complained that the difference, even though hard to notice from a distance, gives them headaches.
For me brighter colours don't make up for crap resolution. I'll gladly take fewer colors if it means that I can read on it and use it outdoors.
Sony Xperia Arc: vs Samsung Galaxy S2
I'm really interested in the Arc due to the fact it has Autofocus/Hdmi/Takes excellent pictures in low light plus great pictures in general. The Video is very smooth/clear. You can run mutiple apps without lag. It comes loaded with 2.3. Must important of all it has clear/loud/incredible sound whether using the media player or talking on the phone or using the speaker phone. It has a great screen with vivid colors.
Just because its a single core processor does not make it slow. This is the same processor that the Desire HD uses.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that the Samsung S2 is not a good phone.
Here are my thoughts
-Dual core processors are brand new(1st generation)
-it will take awhile for them to prove themselves
-how long will updates take
-it will take awhile for developers to develop games/apps for dual core phones
-not everyone needs or uses the power of dual-core processor
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day I want a phone that I can clearly talk on/play the odd game/listen to music. Play utube stuff/watch videos without lag/surf the internet the odd time/take some picts/odd video.
Im not into heavy graphics/rpg games/editing movies or pictures.
I believe that Arc can do all the above and more.
To me Dual core is overkill for me for now. Besides at the end of the year we'll have Quad Core phones.
Tell me your honest opinions on the Arc/Vs Samsung Galaxy S2.
Thanks
Joplin
For me is just easy, if heavy for game play, I go for Xperia Play. If not, I go for Xperia Arc.
Because I hate the out shape design of the Galaxy S, it's too similar to iPhone, even the UI.
Arc out shape design is too great!!

Gaming is fine on Arc, too. The screen is more than huge enough to support gaming via touch.
As for topic, I'd go for Arc, considering as you said, dualcore won't matter for at least next 2-3 quartals, and even not then as well.
It's a experimental area, phones don't really need dual core stuff just yet imo.
In the end it's not about what people tell you
It's about what you want
For me i'm going with Arc, it has everything I want in it

Well some people are actually genuinely unbiased.
It's just a mobile phone, also, strictly speaking, you'll milk more out of Arc than SG2 with your money for the time being. But on the end, everything falls down to preference. Dual-core won't make that much difference for the time being, plus I'd imagine it rapes your battery life faster. On another side, SG2, if the dual-core CPU actually matters much, is the smarter choice here. Again, proving my point that personal preference is all, I've seen some people picking up inferior phones just because of brand or it's looks ( cough cough iPhone )
Pick what you like, is the best answer you can get on these forums.
I appreciate all the positive feedback.

Just throwing my .02 in... I'm returning my Atrix within the next week or so due to Motorola locking down the bootloader and Designgears calling it a lost cause... but I figured I'd just throw it out there that the Atrix with the Tegra 2 (dual core) CRUSHES any other phone I've EVER owned in the last 6 years on the battery life. If the bootloader wasn't signed I'd drop Cyanogenmod 7 onto it and be a happy camper for the next 2 years (Tegra 3... mmmmm...)

Hmm, the battery life thing is interesting, a man would expect it to drain more power ._.
I believe that dual core processors are more power efficient because they each run at lower clock speeds, and therefore lower heat.. and therefore use less battery!
Ah, fair point. Guess I'm just dumb today

The fact you cannot get rid of Sony Ericsson's ugly blues theme makes it pretty underwhelming. Sexy phone but ruined again by SE. I was set to buy it but after learning there is no way around the iPhone-esque lockedness I would just get SGS2. If I want a locked experience I have the iPhone 4 for that. No need to settle for same thing again.

Nice comparison.
Always impressed by the speed of iOS's browser against Android's, but I believe that's due the flash-support in Android's browser ( ads and stuff )
Very good. I have both phones but use the Arc as my primary. For me Android, with widgets, proper file-management and ability of doing things with the phone without always having to asking Job's permission, will always be a hug advantage. And now with the Arc, that is as fast as the iPhone and has an even bigger screen it is a total win. I'm not saying Android or the Arc are fault-free, but they're pretty damn good, both of them!

It's not that the battery's quality is not good, it all depends on the processor and the applications used.
remember that Android has true multi-task, so many applications are running in the background. Unlike iOS which closes everything to save battery.
2.2 and 2.3 seems to work well in terms of using less power .
Howz the battery consumption of arc compared to x10?

I have the Arc. I have no idea why that person's phone is slow. I certainly don't have that issue.
And yes I also have an iphone 4, which i have happily handed over to my wife.
I honestly believe the Arc is hands-down the best phone you can get right now.
And please don't bring up samsung phones. Their build quality is crap. To be honest, Arc's build quality is still not up to Nokia or Apple levels but its a lot better than Samsung and good enough for me.
agree. after resetting my arc, it became lightening fast. I don't know what was wrong, but I am in love with it now.
I'm not so sure apples build quality is that much better. I dropped my iPhone 4 from about 3 feet and the screen cracked. My x10 got kicked, yes kicked about ten feet. I put it back together and it worked fine. Just a little dent in the corner

Apple build quality is generally pretty poor. Their cases hold up physically really well (you rarely see them actually falling apart even after serious abuse) but the reliability of their electronics is shocking - i've lost count of the number of friends that have sent ipods/iphones back, and dont get me started on their headphones - i think they last about 6 months per pair. The plus side is that they do tend to replace faulty kit pretty rapidly without question.
I think people convince themselves apple kit is well built because, hey, they must be paying all that extra money for *something*, right? Kind of like how if you tell someone a bottle of wine is expensive they will prefer the taste to the same bottle if you told them it was cheap.
So the GS2 has been getting fantastic reviews and the specs are just monstorous! It pretty much kills anything on the market right now, how do you feel about this? Will the Arc be outdated quicky? These phones move WAY to fast for me...its not even funny...you buy a phone and theres already one that makes you feel inferior...

While I think the GS2 has better technical specs than the SE, I think the overall design of the Arc is much more unique than that of the GS2. I also find that the Sammys tend to be more plasticy (if that is a word). Additionally, I don't think apps (and the OS) have been optimized for the dual core processor in the GS2.
What the GS2 has going for it, is a front facing camera (which should have in the Arc too) and an unlocked bootloader! Those two might tempt me to pick up a GS2 to play around with.
You should have waited for S2 instead of buying Arc What specifications S2 was going to have, was published on every mobile site since S2 was announced
I do think always to buy things per my own need not to what is the highest. I did care for design and decent performance. ARC was and is the solution for me. Does S2 devalue my arc? no! This is not a good example but I will try
You are driving an Audi RS4 and then Nissan GTR comes out with a performance car, do I care? no because I love my RS4 very much(BTW I don't have a RS4)

SGS II is also ~150 USD more expensive than the Arc.
With the rapid growth of GPU and CPU for mobile, IMHO, spending your every pennies to get the top line of these hardwares every couple months is not worth it. It will get depreciated very quickly. And all the values left would be:
1. design and built quality
2. battery life
3. functionalities
Arc's beautiful design and 8MP camera + exmor r, however, will stay on top of the line for quite a while
(1) The Galaxy S2 is Fugly
(2) "Samsung" and "quality" are two words that wont be used in the same sentence.
I don't think the Arc is in anyway now going to be forgotten about.
I was initially going to wait on the S2, but it was going to cost me about £150 on the plan I'm on, where as the Arc was free. Not really bothered about the dual core CPU as it runs more than fast enough as it is. Front facing camera I don't care about as I'm never going to use it (don't think many iphone users do either as it only works on wifi). The feel and quality of the S2 is way way way below that of the Arc too.
So still well happy with my choice.

I just purchase Arc from Japan knowing it's long been outdated. Even several months old Atrix's has killer specs compared to Arc. I still went for Arc mainly because of it's styling.
I want to wait for GS2 but the styling doesn't appeal to me and not having LED notification kind of killed my desire for it.
With Android handsets, by the time the phone you desire hits the market, there is another killer one coming in a month. It's hard to keep waiting. But, I will move to GS2 if it looks better outside than it is in pictures. But, I doubt Samsung can make anything as attractive as SE phones . Just the SAMSUNG logo kills it for me

Could not agree more!!! Well said!
LOL I agree, it has monster specs but it is FUGLY! Arc and IP4 are MUCH better looking..
SGS2 is definately amazing phone specs wise. There's no denying that. I was going to get SGS2, but got Arc instead. I just wanted to get rid of my iPhone.
Arc looks amazing, works very well and is fast. SGS2 is faster and has better screen, but Arc actually does everything I need currently. I think Arc is enough for me the next 2 years. There will always be new stuff coming, but there is no real need to change every 6 months.
SGS2 will probably be the king until SGS3. But it doesn't make my Arc bad. Actually my Arc is excellent
A phone with better specs than the Arc has been released, so what?
It was bound to happen at some point.
What I really don't like about the galaxy phones is how they look and feel like previous versions of the iPhone. Seriously, the tipping point for getting the arc over the other phones is its unique style. Do you trade off specs and performance for style? Not really. But I don't see the need to pay extra when I can get something that I want and that pretty much caters to what I need.
If you want to be future-proof, get the SGS2 - it might be the HTC Desire of dual-cores with its potential long life. Give it a couple months more and a few more dual-core phones will come out. Will you be wanting every new phone with better specs?

I think you guys are stuck with arc. And couldn't afford sgs2 so why bashing it? And quality on sgs2 is way better than arc. Only thing arc has is camera and Hdmi 2.3 and slim other than that same as x10. I don't see how and why people bought the arc

I could afford to be choosy when opting for a phone I liked the arc so got the arc you can to through life upgrading everything tvs pcs cars houses phones but there is always something bigger and better round the corner so just enjoy what you have

well, i was on the fence between both phones but ended up with the arc, its just an awesome phone, super fast, even in the browser, which i was surprised.
the x10 was trash, but now that sony is giving it 2.3 it makes use of all of its hardware. so its actually a pretty good phone now. the arc of course is way better.
dual-core wouldnt really be as future proof as people are making it out to be....unless ofcourse your idea of future proof is about 6ish months long till the next big thing comes out....and didnt nvidia already map out quad-cores? which means the wait for 2.5+ would be needed since 2.4 will take advantage of the dual-cores.
coming from an atrix, the only real noticable difference in speed comes when you open certain apps, and even then...the difference is by about...1, maybe 2 seconds? so until android can utilize dual-cores, a single core phone done right is fantastic.
*personal preference here*i love sony's screen for movies and pics vs Samoled. cant comment on Samoled plus but the over-saturation and fake colours on the galaxy S phones drove me nuts :/
so those are some of my reasons for getting the arc over the Gs2.

Doesn't look like double cores have any real advantage right now, something really better for the user. Unless you're counting any second after app launching.
It's definitely the future but I wouldn't pee in my pants because of that right now.
SGSII is probably awesome. However has inferior design, inferior UI (for me of course) plus the fear of quality. And Samsung software doesn't seem polished ever. SGSI had issues AFAIK and just look at their WP7 problems story.
You knew it would happen soon enough. SE to release a "Duo" Core Android device.
Looks interesting.

I wonder if it will come in white too!
Luster white like X10, not silver like the Arc!

Seriously?? Thats it? Man believe it or not being one of the company having most of android shares Sony is lagging behind in hardware as well as in software ... Just photos are out which are still not confirmed by Sony whereelse companies like samaung, Lg already got dual core .. Shame Sony you are just losing your fans ..i have been using Sony mobiles since 5 years used many mobiles but now I have to think before buying Sony..

Wow, that looks sexy. Altough I know it isn't official I like it. I also hope that the 4.5 inch will go to 4.3 inch or lower. It's to big! Defintely my next phone. It something ''original'' instead of copied.
Top part does look like a HTC, whole thing looks fake.
What are the chances of Sony Ericsson using ST-Ericsson processors for their upcoming dual core phones? Apparently the U8500 and the NovaThor Processors are pretty powerful and very power efficient.
Looks ugly.
I have always hated how SE moved the 'XPERIA' wording from below the LCD screen (X10) to below the hardware buttons (Arc), it just doesn't look right.
The proportions of the 'Duo' look messed up.
intersdating...........
seems fake & ugly
anyway can't wait for SE to catch up
My version of Duo

Submit it to SE. Who knows?! Looks very nice.
Wow!that's cool!how many months have past since the arc is out?now we are getting a new xperia!!haha SE is getting really ridiculous! Would be better for them if they recall the arc totally and keep investing on the x10 till this "duo" is coming out! I foresee a really short lifespan for the arc!

Hopefull it will come in April 2012, because I just ordered the Arc and want it to be SE's flagship device for almost a year...
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
whoever design this, they better sent this design back to drawing board or facing the consequences of low sales for this phone
If this is to be x8 segment price I still can understand, but for dual core flagship smartphone, it made lg optimus 2x looks like a state of the art design.
I think the design is pretty good. I mean how many ways can you design a phone that's basically made up of entirely of a touch screen? There is a new pic going around with the Duo right next to the Arc that can be found at the bottom of this link:
http://www.brightsideofnews.com/new...-preps-a-dual-core-smartphone-xperia-duo.aspx
From the looks of things, it might still have an "arc" form factor.
Its looking pretty decent from the front wonder how the back looks and it seems to be solid from the pics im looking. I mean it could have been worse!
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
I agree. We need to see the back of it to make the decision on whether or not it looks ugly. I'm hoping it doesn't follow the htc battery cover design choices....
