nexus video record in hd? - Nexus One General

is it possible?
im in a debate of buying a nexus one or a galaxy s.
i need a phone that can record in hd and i heard that there is a rom for the GALAXY S for it to record in hd.
IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE NEXUS ONE TO RECORD IN HD?
thank you in advance.

well the N1 records @ 720p by default. It's HD, not FULL HD (1080p)

Not true.
720p only with the HACK!!!

so it is possble to record at hd correct?
how about 1080p?
which one would u go for nexus or the galaxy s?

The Galaxy S line can record 1280x720 (720p) by default. The Nexus One records 720x480 (480p) by default, but can record 720p with a custom ROM. The Galaxy S is known to have a better camera than the Nexus One so the Galaxy takes the cake here. HOWEVER, Nexus One has the very handy LED flash for taking videos in the dark. Neither phone can do 1080p. AFAIK only the cortex A9 cpu's are capable of encoding videos in 1080p.

LG Optimus II can record [email protected]

You get hd video if you run cyanogen ROM. So yes, you just need to root the phone.

i dont think he meant no phone can do it. he was just saying between the two they cant.

I would wait until Tegra 2 phones are released onto the market. There are newer phones out that the Nexus and Galaxies, and it seems like you want power!! And in all reality, if you would like to record in 1080p (which op didn't say, however 720p is fine imo), get a camcorder, because phones aren't that powerful...yet.

Can the Legend record 720p HD video ?
The iPhone 3gs can - http://m.gizmodo.com/5677827/record...eed&utm_campaign=Feed:+gizmodo/full+(Gizmodo)
They both have processors clocked at 600Mhz and Legend's is a generation ahead.
Any ROM expert working on this ?

opps sorry ..I read too fast....
but yes I think HD recording is miles away..althou not impossible
Both run on 600mhz but the 3gs has a Cortex-A8 based cpu (like the milestone) so it's much faster. I don't think it will happen ...
I would say impossible. The hardware cant even decode HD video, let alone encode it into the appropriate format.
i doesnt depend on wich cpu ist built in, it depends on the camera.
so no.
maybe the iphone 3gs had a better camera built in an apple hasnt enable its support or its just a upscaled video, the quality isnt that good, its a bit blury etc.
and the hardware would be able to decode, if someone would try to make it possible.
The legend and the desire have the same camera

ok, well then it should be possible, if any1 would try to enable it.

Nope, it is true, confirmed by Samsung Too!
I wanted that /system dump because new nexus s is recording in 720p!
I'm a bit doubtful ...
Were you saying that Samsung confirmed 720p on the european version?
or tht they confirmed the fact that there IS a European version?
I can understand if the confirmed the second one...but 720p ?
i'd like to read about that too ..cud u post a link?
Same here. Google said that the sgs needed additional hardware for 720p that would not fit on the nexus s pcb, I would expect it could be hacked in like the N1 but I wouldn't expect 720p at 30 fps

I/m doubtful as well, so many people thought the current Nexus S was 720p, even multiple best buy reps selling and demoing the phone. They were wrong. it was 720x480, not 720p.

Nope you're right
The 720p60 format is 1,280 × 720 pixels, progressive encoding with 60 frames per second (60 Hz). The 1080i50 format is 1920 × 1080 pixels, interlaced encoding with 50 fields per second. Two interlaced fields formulate a single frame, because the two fields of one frame are temporally shifted. Frame pulldown and segmented frames are special techniques that allow transmitting full frames by means of interlaced video stream.

People often get confused by HD resolutions because they contain two numbers and most times in these sort of specs its the first number we care about hence why people confuse 720x480 with 1280x720. The reason we care about the second number, however, is because it represents the height and therefore the number of 'lines' on the screen and since the display on modern televisions gets refreshed line-by-line this is the resolution we care about.
So now it's a choice between SLCD/720p vs SuperAMOLED/480p.

I'm hoping that google just needed more time to tweak the camera app and adds this in a future update. Kind of like how they did native "pinch to zoom" on the Nexus one. A proper video chat client wouldn't hurt either.

DEsire HD 1080p

ORiginal desire got the ability to record 720p videos . Even iPhone 3gs which was able to record vga video was able to record in 720p after a work around.will it be possible on desire HD to record full hd 1080p videos with any kind of work around

I'm not a techie but 720p usually means 1280 by 720 pixels where 1080p means 1920 by 1080 pixels. It's quite a jump between those values and even with a workaround that quality could be poop
the sensor won't be better with any change
It will just use more space from the sdcard
The sensor is capable of recording 1080p, but the processor is not capable of encoding in full hd. So no - it's not possible.

Nope, if the processor was capable of encoding 1080p, the video won't be just an upsampled version of the 720p video. It would be a true 1080. It's not the sensor alone that's responsible for the video quality - there are the lenses and the hardware encoding. And these (especialy the lenses) have the negative impact on our video recording IMO.
If not full HD then least some workaround to improve the current state. Audio really suck and video I dark most of the times. Really disappointed with the video quality on desire HD

Htc have always had ****ty cameras. If you wanted a camera phone the dhd isn't the best option.

Someone Swyped my idea.
to be able to record in 1080p would be great enhance but I bet changing from stock sd card is required it seems. class to won't do good with 1080p recording. correct me if I'm wrong
I wouldn't have thought a Class 2 card would anywhere near fast enough for full HD.
would you really notice the difference from 720p to 1080p if shot through the same lens?

Not with these lenses
the lens is capable enough to record 1080p,its the processor issue, because the new galaxy s2 has 8mpixel camera aswell and is capable of recording in full hd 1080p,so i was wondering,if i overclock my cpu to 1.2ghz,which i already done, will there be a solution?

Galaxy S2 has a dual core CPU.
We would need that, if we ever manage to capture in 1080p it would just be a slideshow because the CPU cant keep up.
A bit late to this party, the last post was about six months old.

Well, you might ask SE - they are the only ones to know.
I don't think it is possible, all the 1080p camera phones have a dual core processor, the arc has one core processor, so i think it is related to the processor.

Yeah, concensus seems to be that it really needs the oomph of a dual core processor to be able to encode 1080 reliably without glitches.

no sgs only records 720p.you are confusing it with Galaxy s2
It also depend upon the writing speed i.e. 1080p produces larger size videos so the time it takes to write data to SD is much higher than 720p so I would assume it's not as easy to update but it requires Hardware change

Sorry for my english.
I have a big problem.

Maybe if you posted it in English.
The box is technically accurate but misleading. HD is anything 1280x720 or higher resolution. It will play back 1080P videos but will down convert them to 1280x720 since this is the tablets native resolution. It cannot playback 1080P videos at 1080P but it does not say that. It says it will play back 1080P videos. It should note *at 1280x720 resolution*. The only way it could play back full 1080P is if the screen resolution was 1920x1080 which it is not. It records in 1280x720 which again, is HD. If your planning to record HD video on this tablet I'm afraid you are going to disappointed. Quality is not that good in my opinion.

P.s. post your image.
Do you have a tab 2 7" or 10"? The 7" has a 3MP camera and thus can only do 720p. I think the 10" has more MP and can do 1080p recordings even though playback won't be 1080p. If you copy the recording to a computer, playback will be 1080p. Does that make sense?

No, it makes no sense, but if you sell a product for 1080P playback and recording in, because I can not see it on my tablet?
Also, if records in 1080P, how can I see if the screen is 1280x720? This is called false advertising in Italy

Not really false advertising if it says HD playback not specifically 1010p HD playback.
I'm not trying to be a ****, but is not the purpose of recording videos , to share them. Therefore the 1080p playback on anything other than YOUR tablet is the desired outcome.
The OP may be right. I don't have the 10" model and my 7" specifically says 720p with a 3MP camera. Looking at this, it appears the 10" model has the same camera and also records in 720p. Can someone else confirm?

Maybe you should complain to the store you bought it from and ask for a refund if you are unhappy with it.
For myself, my galaxy nexus does 1080p video (but my display is 720p), and it is much more portable and convenient to use for recording. If I record a video, I prefer to watch it on my computer or TV. For me, the tablet is more of a portable web browser, gaming platform, eBook, and media streaming box. I can understand if you made your purchase for other reasons though.

I have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 model GT-P5113 and the box states "HD Video Capture and Playback", it doesn't specify 1080p or 720p on the box at all. The included recording app will let you choose a maximum resolution of 1280x720 for video recording.
Edit: http://www.samsung.com/us/system/co...tsyxar/Galaxy_Tab_II_10.1_Spec_Sheets_v13.pdf shows 1080p playback at 30fps and says nothing about the resolution of recording video, only that it has a 3MP camera.
You can't tell the difference between 1080 and 720 on anything smaller then a 32 inch screen anyways.

I agree, however, the issue the OP has is that he was expecting Full HD recording, which the Galaxy Tab 2 is not capable of.
