[Q] Full HD Tab2????? - Galaxy Tab 2 General

Sorry for my english.
I have a big problem.
The Galaxy tab 2 have write to package that the recorder video is Full HD (1080P) and the manual pag. 67, reporting that the video is 1280x800; why?
I have speak with Samsung Italy, the response are: you are right, sorry, i send immediately a email to Korea.
Please you tablet records video at 1080p?
Ettore Ribaudo

It doesn't say 1080P recording but playback. It says HD on recording, but not full-HD. My P3113 records in 1280x720.

Actually, it says full 1080p HD playback and HD recording. It could be misleading if you don't catch that.

Edit: The recording is in HD, just 720p...

Maybe if you posted it in English.

The box is technically accurate but misleading. HD is anything 1280x720 or higher resolution. It will play back 1080P videos but will down convert them to 1280x720 since this is the tablets native resolution. It cannot playback 1080P videos at 1080P but it does not say that. It says it will play back 1080P videos. It should note *at 1280x720 resolution*. The only way it could play back full 1080P is if the screen resolution was 1920x1080 which it is not. It records in 1280x720 which again, is HD. If your planning to record HD video on this tablet I'm afraid you are going to disappointed. Quality is not that good in my opinion.

Why in Italy have FULL HD and in other Country HD?
I have buy a Tablet Full HD, i am now a tablet is not full hd, because the screen is 1281x720.

P.s. post your image.

Do you have a tab 2 7" or 10"? The 7" has a 3MP camera and thus can only do 720p. I think the 10" has more MP and can do 1080p recordings even though playback won't be 1080p. If you copy the recording to a computer, playback will be 1080p. Does that make sense?

No, it makes no sense, but if you sell a product for 1080P playback and recording in, because I can not see it on my tablet?
Also, if records in 1080P, how can I see if the screen is 1280x720? This is called false advertising in Italy
My tablet is 10".

Not really false advertising if it says HD playback not specifically 1010p HD playback.
I'm not trying to be a ****, but is not the purpose of recording videos , to share them. Therefore the 1080p playback on anything other than YOUR tablet is the desired outcome.

The OP may be right. I don't have the 10" model and my 7" specifically says 720p with a 3MP camera. Looking at this, it appears the 10" model has the same camera and also records in 720p. Can someone else confirm?

Maybe you should complain to the store you bought it from and ask for a refund if you are unhappy with it.
For myself, my galaxy nexus does 1080p video (but my display is 720p), and it is much more portable and convenient to use for recording. If I record a video, I prefer to watch it on my computer or TV. For me, the tablet is more of a portable web browser, gaming platform, eBook, and media streaming box. I can understand if you made your purchase for other reasons though.

I have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 model GT-P5113 and the box states "HD Video Capture and Playback", it doesn't specify 1080p or 720p on the box at all. The included recording app will let you choose a maximum resolution of 1280x720 for video recording.
Edit: http://www.samsung.com/us/system/co...tsyxar/Galaxy_Tab_II_10.1_Spec_Sheets_v13.pdf shows 1080p playback at 30fps and says nothing about the resolution of recording video, only that it has a 3MP camera.

You can't tell the difference between 1080 and 720 on anything smaller then a 32 inch screen anyways.

I agree, however, the issue the OP has is that he was expecting Full HD recording, which the Galaxy Tab 2 is not capable of.

I'm not a techie but 720p usually means 1280 by 720 pixels where 1080p means 1920 by 1080 pixels. It's quite a jump between those values and even with a workaround that quality could be poop
the sensor won't be better with any change
It will just use more space from the sdcard
The sensor is capable of recording 1080p, but the processor is not capable of encoding in full hd. So no - it's not possible.

Nope, if the processor was capable of encoding 1080p, the video won't be just an upsampled version of the 720p video. It would be a true 1080. It's not the sensor alone that's responsible for the video quality - there are the lenses and the hardware encoding. And these (especialy the lenses) have the negative impact on our video recording IMO.
If not full HD then least some workaround to improve the current state. Audio really suck and video I dark most of the times. Really disappointed with the video quality on desire HD

Htc have always had ****ty cameras. If you wanted a camera phone the dhd isn't the best option.

Someone Swyped my idea.
to be able to record in 1080p would be great enhance but I bet changing from stock sd card is required it seems. class to won't do good with 1080p recording. correct me if I'm wrong
I wouldn't have thought a Class 2 card would anywhere near fast enough for full HD.
would you really notice the difference from 720p to 1080p if shot through the same lens?

the lens is capable enough to record 1080p,its the processor issue, because the new galaxy s2 has 8mpixel camera aswell and is capable of recording in full hd 1080p,so i was wondering,if i overclock my cpu to 1.2ghz,which i already done, will there be a solution?

Galaxy S2 has a dual core CPU.
We would need that, if we ever manage to capture in 1080p it would just be a slideshow because the CPU cant keep up.

are we getting HD video playback?

When watching movie trailers from all three movie apps, Movies, Moviefone, and IMDB. All looks fuzzy. Moviefone will let you pick HD and it defaults to that but it just looks like standard def.
Am I missing something in setting ?
Help please
At the bottom of the product page on Acer's US site is fine print saying that 1080P playback is coming in an update by June of this year. You didn't state the resolution, and I don't know if it's exactly the issue you're having though.
Thanks, but is that 1080p output to tv or better playback for videos. We have have 720p, right. It still looks bad. Try it, play a movie trailer from one of those sites, when the green movie trailer logo come up it is fuzzy bad.
Anyone one else wanna help answer this. Watch a movie trailer and tell me what you think.
Are we getting HD playback or not in 720p. Also does it record in 720p HD
Thanks
I've played my own videos on hd on the tablet, an they play an look great.
As for the "movie apps, " if those videos aren't playing in hd, that would be something to ask them about.

Acer said in Q2 of this year (May to August) for an update that will allow 1080p playback on both the Tab and when going to a TV.
Guys, After Google I/O I am starting to think that the update in June Acer is talking about is Honeycomb 3.1.
Ideas?
The gate is not Acer, but is Nvidia. Nvidia needs to farm out codec package support to Archos. Archos may screw up awful on their tablet specs, but they have GREAT codec support in their devices.
I still do not see much value in 1080p, since drains battery and takes up tons of space. Not to mention our tablet is "800p", so 1080p is overkill.
If referring to outputting to a 1080p display and perhaps as a media center, NOW I see the point.
I have posted on another thread that I have tried playing back a 720p movie with huge lags. I think this should clear with the next update.

1080p Video Output

Simple question:
Does the transformer support 1080p video output through its mini hdmi port?
if not: what's the max resolution?
720 i believe
according to nvidia tegra 2 supports 1080P output via hdmi
HDMI 1.3 1920x1080
but
LCD 1024x600 (Tegra 230)
1680x1050 (Tegra 250)
CRT 1280x1024 (Tegra 230)
1600x1200 (Tegra 250)
I also have an question, why LCD output can't use the 1080P output
and why are tablets limited in 720P
the tblet will mirror out at 720p,which means you see the same on the tv as on lcd. It will output video from the video play unmirrored at 1080p, which means whne you send the video to tv the video on the tab is blank/
The reason no 1080p mirrored is because the tab display is only 1280x800.
while 1080p does work for video it is far from perfect. Hopefully they will smooth it out soon.

Guys, please help me with this:
I tried to connect my transformer (3.1) to my Panasonic Viera Plasma HDTV using a GTMax High Speed Gold-Plated Mini HDMI to HDMI Cable Version 1.4 (25 feet).
My surprise... it didn't work. My understanding is I just had to plug the cable to transformer and tv and enjoy, but the tv screen does nothing and remains blank.
Is it because the length of the cable? or because of the version of the cable(1.4)? Or maybe I have to adjust the resolution somewhere? Or install an app?
Any suggestions?
Thank you very much!

Did you succeed to output 1080p resolution to a Full HD TV/monitor?

I only can get 720p to both my Sharp and Sony Full HD (1080p) TVs with a full HD (1080p) mp4 Basic line video test (Film Teaser) with Buzz and Rokplayer.

Its one of the best ones out there for tablet unless your going for a full x86/x64 machine. Agree they should have never specified 1080p the tech is currently too slow to do it properly 9/10 times.

Agreed, it has not advantage over competing solutions. GPU is nothing extraordinary, multimedia engine is a joke, standard A9 CPU. Only pure marketing.
Right now OMAP4 is probably the best SoC when it comes to pure power. Snapdragon with it's 1,5Ghz tablet specific SoC will be much faster than T2 both CPU and GPU wise(and it supports 1080p h264 High Profile 3.1), even now 1,2Ghz version has slightly faster GPU than T2.
Exynos would be great too, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any news about official honeycomb for exynos or any kind of tablet coming running on this SoC.

Are you guys sure that the poor 1080p h264 high profile performance is due to a hardware limitation and NOT due to poor software implementation ? Because Tegra 2 official spec sheet list 1080p encode and decode capability (though profile is not mentioned), but this article says it is capable of accelerating 1080p High profile.
I thought I read somewhere that part of the limitation at the moment is poor software/driver implementation. But the Tegra 2 isn't lacking for regular processing power. My Transformer outruns my Galaxy S when it comes to running regular apps and browsing, but my phone plays 720p videos smoother and supports more file types/containers/codecs.
That's weird.
When i watch a movie on the TF HD to the TV, my TV reports it as 1080p. My TF screen goes blank.
it's not weird, it's the way it's supposed to be. (read the thread!)
the tf's display doesn't support 1080p so it is switched of.

Does Hdmi out do HD 1080p

Just interested in the hdmi docks and if they will do 1080p .. either mkv or avi?.. also how the hdmi does netflix .. in hd(if available)?..at least 720p?
any experiences would be nice to hear.
thanks
Any dock or adapter will do 1080p output, BUT it will be 1080p if you play\stream video through any video player (Dice etc.) if you just stream interface of android (includes web pages, pictures etc.) it will have 720p resolution, the reason for that is that Android's UI runs at 720p max. at the moment. Regarding Netflix - I have no idea, I don't have, though I suppose it will not be higher than 720p, like Youtube app HD mode.
Netflix quality is awful at the moment on the tab as it is, on a larger screen it'd be useless

Correction: 800p
The output resolution is 1280x800, not 1280x720.
Some TV's may crop 40 pixels from the top and the bottom (because most TV's are in 16:9 ratio as opposed to the 16:10 ratio of the 7.7), but when connecting to my computer monitor (which is a 16:10 ratio screen at 1680x1050), I can see the entire image with no cropping. Even the display properties indicates that the input signal is 1280x800.
Just, y'know, FYI...
And I know this was mentioned, but in response to the OP, yes the 7.7 does do 1080p, provided that the video being played back is utilizing hardware acceleration for the playback, otherwise it is downscaled to 1280x800 (like in YouTube, or Netflix, etc.)

If you're referring to the composite video adapter for the 3.5mm headphone jack, then no, that will not work with the 7.7. The 7.7 only works with the HDMI adapter.

I didn't "expect" anything. The screen maybe virtually 720p, however I was hoping that much like when a laptop is outputted to a higher display resolution if you select it that this would be too.
