Goodbye Hero , Hello g2 - Hero CDMA General

I jsut wanted to say goodbye to everyone here in the Heroc Forums, Ive switched to t-mo and got a g2. I learned alot in these forums tho, It was my first smartphone, and i learned everything i could possibly know about android and phones in these forums, So thanks

I wish T-Mo had better service in my area

Why didn't you upgrade to either the HTC EVO Shift 4G or the LG Optimus S instead of jumping ship to the 4th largest US carrier (based on subscriber numbers)? Sprint does offer the best value in wireless not only in terms of $, but what you get per month in service and features.

I'm leaving in a few months for another carrier as well.
For me:
Sprint has terrible coverage both at home and at work (they had to install hardware just to get sprint to work out here when our company signed with them). But hey, it was cheap and %23 company discount. It can't be THAT bad right? I think even now the company wants out.
Price was nice until they axed employee discounts on extended lines (+$20 a month in bill, should have bailed back then but didn't)
Phones. Still no pure/near pure AOSP Android phones. All have custom bloatware on top (HTC Sense, Samsung whatever they call it). Sure I can root MY phone, but I have 4 lines... i'm not going to root them all and hear later that something doesn't work etc, please fix.
+$10 4G 'premium data' charge/line. I'm complaining about this 'just cuz' fee, and I (supposedly) do have 4g coverage at home.
T-mobile wasn't any better last time I had them, so it looks like I will have to get two lines on Verizon and push the other two to prepaid like Page Plus or another Verizon MVNO, or maybe Metro PCS.

well for one sprints wimax isnt very good in my area, and t-mo's hspa+ is the strongest here. . I havent cancelled my sprint account . merely gave it to my brother. Im actually an employee for radioshack so i get to have my dealer lines on multiple carriers. So i figured for 20 bucks a month on t-mo i get my 4g access and such , while on sprint if i wanted the same id have to be paying 30 with a uglier phone. (imo the shift is pretty ugly) and no 4g access. So t-mo worked out better for me. But that doesnt mean everyone should switch to t-mo haha. Really depends on the situation

flashing from Alltel to Verizon?

My plan is going to be switching from Alltel to Verizon can I flash the nfs Rom and then install the Verizon cabs and use my same phone? I am hoping I don't need a whole new phone :/
If you're referring to the Alltel/Verizon merger, unless you're terminating your Alltel contract and activating a Verizon contract you shouldn't need to do anything at all...
Unfortunately that is the case. I am not the only one on the plan and the other line needs a new phone and is switching the contract to Verizon. I read stuff about adding your esn to Verizons database but that was all over a year old so I was not sure if it still worked
Why not just stick with Alltel? Even after the merger you shouldn't have to do anything. Besides their plans might be cheaper anyways.

No doubt... I was PISSED when I the FCC approved the Merger... in my $.02 it killed off one of the best cell-providers out there!
I'm one of the ones from Alltel with a Vogue that has been merged into Verizon. Since the merger, I have been: missing calls (never rings), missing texts (never received - on both ends), and getting voice mail notifications 2-5 days after the message was left. I have been very disappointed. I've talked to Verizon Customers who have claimed to not have these problems.
After talking with Verizon, and being on the phone hours to find a solution, the only thing said was that this "should not be happening", but since it is, it "really should not happen" with native Verizon phones and plans.
At first I thought that even tech support was trying to get a sale. Since then, family members have upgraded, and report that things really are smoother with VZW phone/plane combo. WTF??? I'm interested. I went to a VZW store and did a face to face with a rep. Not only can all four lines switch now (and their not eligible for upgrade), but they can lower my bill by $30, or keep the same rate and switch from tethered internet to a wireless aircard.
I don't know how all this will play out, but I may give Verizon another shot, but I'm waiting for a android phone to make it's appearance before I switch. Waiting on October and rumors of Motorola and HTC android phones coming out this fall.
I am sort of in the same boat. I have not transfered yet but my family switched over to verizon because they needed new phones and alltels selection now sucks since they are merging. I am currently on my own phone plan but I am a poor college student and if I move onto my parents family plan I would save $50 a month. I talked to verizon yesterday and they said they may be able to flash their software onto my phone but I have not gone in to talk to the rep yet. I am just wary because I do not want to sign a contract extension with verizon so if it does not work I may just switch to sprint or t mobile.

Thats exactly what I am thinking
I wish. I live in the south. Between Dallas and Little Rock. Alltel was awesome out here. 3G everywhere I could go, and now the same with Verizon. Unfortunately, Sprint have great 3G on the Interstates, but slows to 1X before you get to my house.
eh that sucks. I am in phoenix so pretty much every company has good service all over

Can I Vent about AT&T!!!????!!!!

So, I ordered my nexus one with a contract from Google when the phone came out. I was not in a contract with AT&T and had not been for more than 2 years. When the service switched (ported my number) I called AT&T and confirmed that my service was canceled. Everything is all good. Well, a month later I got a bill from AT&T for a full month.... I called them and they said that since I was a week into my billing cycle they billed me for the FULL month and would not, will not, & cannot refund the time I could not use the phone. I called a few times and spoke with management (I was polite & professional the whole time!).
I then contacted my credit card company for the amount I thought I shouldn't have had to pay. Card Company gave me a temp credit. Few days later AT&T gave the amount back to me that I was seeking and the card company reversed my credit. All good I though. Then I received an email from AT&T saying I have a past due amount. THE EXACT AMOUNT THEY GAVE ME BACK!!!! So yeah, they gave me the money I was seeking and are now asking for it back???? I have yet to call them but it is due on the 19th.
This is one reason why I left AT&T. And they have the best reception in the area. I still left them and I get this kind of crap after being a loyal customer since 03. Stupid company.
Just wanted to Vent!
Thank you!
LOL, I still owe them like 300 bucks, most likely won't ever get it. With my android phone, I send them to voicemail when their collections company calls me ha.
Is there any phone company that is not a big jackass? I mean big 4 (Verizon - Lock down high way / even bigger jack ass, ATT - jack ass, Tmobile - their N1 pricing is wack, sprint - bad and slow service) I mean come on whatever happens to honest bunsiness???
I tried the iPhone 3GS on AT&T for a couple of weeks but cancelled without issues. Only had to pay a restocking fee and a prorated fee for what airtime I did use. My cousin did the same, but they charged her the restocking fee, the prorated amount, AND an ETF! And she cancelled during the remorse period! Took a couple of months for her to get everything straightened out, but it was a major PITA for her.
Actually Sprint is not bad at all from what I've heard from colleagues. And their pricing is extremely aggressive! I'd never leave a GSM carrier though.

Agreed... the only reason I haven't considered switching to Sprint thus far is because I would prefer GSM, but more imporantly LTE in the future...

If you live in a Wimax area, Sprint's Wimax will be available on phones by this summer. It'll be about a year for LTE devices to start popping up for verizon. If you change your device every year, then you won't miss anything.
I'm not to worried about LTE right now because I have to get a new phone with in the next month or so. I wanna keep it for more than a year so LTE is two device's away, one now and one 18 months from now at the earliest.
Can anyone confirm is sprint still cancels contracts that exceed 5gigs. Easy way out of a contract when LTE comes out.
FWIW, its not just AT&T, its all of them.
I love AT&T and refuse to switch to anyone else. That being said, in November, I switched to VZW for the Droid. I had it 10 days and was miserable so I cancelled and switched back.
Needless to say, VZW has still yet to send me back the full amount they owe me for the rest of the month I paid for and never used. This is now 4 months later.

TMobile has nothing to do with the Nexus One pricing
If you want to *****, then ***** about Google's pricing scheme. TMobile is a business and when the day is over they need to make money... so they cannot just hand out Nexus Ones and take a hit for each one they sell.

I just left Sprint and can say that I haven't seen anyone successfully get out of a contract for that as far back as I can remember. A more successful way was to go into a Sprint roaming area and burn through minutes. The contract itself states that if you use > 50% of your minutes in roam they have a right to terminate your contract. On most phones you can just set it to Roam Only and then call movie phone or something similar and just let it run during the unlimited periods. It may take a few months but they generally send a letter stating they will terminate your service as you will end up costing them more than they are making from your plan in roaming fees to their roaming partners.
However, Sprint's service and network was actually quite good for my needs. Everywhere I went I either had Sprint service or roamed onto Verizon for voice (not as often as I would have expected). I even had coverage in areas that my wife did not with Verizon. Now, I think their choice of WiMax will eventually come back to haunt them, but they do have a decent sized rollout of WiMax currently and their plans are very aggressively priced.
They are quite the evil little company
Good to know that they do not pro-rate the monthly charge when you cancel.
I'm switching in a week!

T-mobile customer considering sprint

Ever since the news on the possible buyout of tmobile, ive been looking into other possible carriers and sprint seems to be the best fit. Im on a no contract family plan now and refuse to go with at&t. Verizon is appealing but I beleive its going to cost a lot more to get what im getting already or through sprint. Although there is no real hurry since the deal has not gone through, i am really liking the deal on porting your number or for $125 and google voice integration. I live outside philadelphia so the coverage looks good. Ive also tried the aim email discount and appears to give me a discount on the 1500 family plan. So I would like to hear others opinions on whether I should jump on now or wait. I figured i could sell my samsung vibrant now since its still worth some money and help pay for two evos.
Hell No
Don't buy an Evo as it is now outdated. Sprint has good service but you need to root to unlock the Evo's capabilities. Don't jump the gun yet as the deal may not go through. I would say wait till summer for the Evo 3D or for the Samsung Galaxy S2! Any who if the deal does not go through I will go back to T-Mobile because I travel to Europe a lot.

If that aim discount doesn't go through, you might want to try this one
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173903
I believe it's only for new customers or upgrading customers so it might work in your situation. 1600min is $109.99 + $10 per smart phone for premium data
Ill keep that in mind as both seem to work for the discounts. My plan is to get the evo with the $125 credit which basically almost pays for itself, then sell it when the newer phones comes out. I just hate to wait it out and lose out on the porting discount but I also dont want to make a mistake either.

as much as I would outright say "Go Sprint!", I would recomend you find someone that Actually has a Sprint phone, and one with 4G, have them bring it to your house (or where ever you use your phone most, perhaps a fave bar?), and TEST the service. Same with work.
That being said, it sounds like you have a good plan in place for keeping current with the best phones.
Good Luck!
The other factor is that I can still get singer decent money for my vibrant now.I'm afraid that if I wait too long I won't get much for it. I did go to the mall and test out the phone in there but I don't know if they have some setup to boost the signal. But it had good speed there

I have a plan on both, and in my particular locale it basically (ignoring pricing) works down to two things. Sprint has much better overall "make and do not drop" call coverage, and T-Mobile has far far superior data speeds but notably less reliable coverage. Again, both of these things are entirely area dependant and may not apply to you at all.

I like sprint overall. I like tmobile more, but with the sero plan sprint is my best value. if I were to ever get kicked off sero I was planning to go back to tmobile. Too bad now that idea isnt looking so hot.

Me too.
Why don't you first sign up and try the service WITHOUT cancelling your T-Mobile account and hold off on porting your number over until you've tried out Sprint during the initial 30 day trial period. During the initial 30 days, you can try the Sprint service out in the areas that you'll most likely use it and get a more accurate assessment of how good the service will be FOR YOU, instead of people's opinions here (especially knowing that service will vary from area to area). Afterwards, if you like the service, then port your T-Mobile number over and you'll be good to go. But if Sprint's service and the phone aren't what you hoped they would be, return the phone within your 30 days and try another carrier.
However, keep in mind that I'm not sure what the requirements are for the $125 service credit are - I would read the fine print and make sure you get information from a corporate store.
Hope this helps.

scored w/ Sprint deal

Sprint might not have the best rep, but it does have some of the best rates/plans/discounts around. I recently took advantage of a deal through a student discount website (studentrate.com). I signed up on the site, went to their Sprint deal, followed a link to Sprint.com, opened a new family plan with 2 lines w/ an EVO and EVO 3D, got $250 service credit ($125 for each # ported over from another carrier), $40 rebate ($20 per phone), and a 23% discount off my monthly bill (rebates and discount from studentrate). I'm pretty happy about how much money I just saved. Now lets hope I'm happy with Sprint's service.
Any students out there looking to save some dough this is where I found my savings..
Sprint Discount
Is this for real? That's some huge savings.
All right, I'll give it a look...
Yes it is for real, not a scam. The rebates are only for new customers and the $125 credit is actually Sprint's own promotion, which is only for new customers as well. But anyone can get the 23% as long as you're buying a new phone.
hmm thanks. I'll have to so a lil research.

Has Sprint started a pre-order for the Epic Touch yet?
Came out on the 16th
Most cell companies do student discounts. I get 15% off at T-Mobile. That is on top of the huge discounts on my loyalty plans as well.
I think verizon does a 10% but it's not close to as much as Sprint gives
Ughh now that the iPhone 4S came to Sprint I wish I waited to get a phone and start a plan. maybe i ll use my dad's early upgrade to get it, or the iphone 5.
I know the T-mobile discount is not as attractive as Sprint but I really like them as a carrier, it's a shame that they didn't get the iphone because they are going to lose so many customers because of it. I really hope they get the iphone 5 when it comes out

It's a shame that carriers like C-Spire get the iPhone 4S, but T-Mobile doesn't.

[Q] EVO 4G LTE early upgrade?

I am 6 months away from an upgrade on a 2 line family plan. I have an EVO wimax and really want the EVO LTE or the HTC ONE X on AT&T. I am very disappointed in Sprint for charging me $10 a month for 4G (premium data charge if you want to call it that) and never building out wimax in my area. I live outside of Charlotte, NC. I feel like I got burned with 4G once already and don't want to get burned again.
I have read about the "buy up" program on here. Does anyone know the details? Being 6 months away how much should it be for me? Also, are they really on giving $50 trade ins for our old EVOs or this that in addition to? The cheapest they are on EBAY is $150 used.
Does anyone think that Sprint would waive the "buy up" and the 6 months because of them never building out wimax in my area? If I have to wait 6 months I'll probably just switch to AT&T because their service is better in the Charlotte area. Ive had Sprint/Nextel for almost 9 years.
Thanks
Well, for over a year now Sprint has been adding the $10 to every single smart phone. So it's not a 4G thing anymore like it was 2 years ago.
It's up to you what you to do in regard to AT&T. I think Sprint has better pricing.
I agree on the Buyout program. $50 does seem very low compared to what they sell for on Ebay still.
I personally never plan to get rid of my EVO 4G. It's a great back up phone to whatever I eventually upgrade to.

I stay in the Shelby nc area and hate that I pay that ten dollars for wimax that ill never see, this is the exact reason it is now called the smartphone fee.
In February I did the buy up program for one line on my family plan for my wife. Our upgrade isnt up until this November. I payed 90 to buy the upgrade and 99 for her to get a crapple. From what I understand the least you can pay for the buy up is 50 or 55 I think.
I wouldn't trade-in my evo for 50
They go for 100 on craigslist and eBay all day long.

This sort of highlights the features of early buy out program, however, I do not believe the dollar amounts on this are correct. For example, I am 1 month out on my upgrade (June 1) and it would cost me $45 to buy out of my contract; this holds true up until 4 months out.
I'm not sure what the numbers would be outside of this time frame, and I don't believe Sprint has made this info publicly available. Your best bet on finding out is contacting their retention depart by dialing '*2' and talking to them about. Everyone else will act like they don't have a clue on what you're talking about, and will give you the run around.
Good luck!
I went to a Sprint store today and they said I am eligible for a upgrade. I can pay $50 today to pre-order the EVO LTE. They would also give me $70 dollars for my EVO WIMAX. That leaves me paying $80 when it comes to the store. In the end I decided to wait until 4G LTE is available in my area before I buy the phone. Sprint 3G sucks and the 4G is necessary at times when there is no good WiFi available.
