Guys I just wanted to give you a forewarning about T-Mobile's business practices.
I apologize if anyone takes offense but I am simply posting my experience with T-Mobile. I understand I signed a 2 year contract but where I am moving I have horrible service and I am not asking for a sympathy boat either, but if you don't agree with the way T-Mobile handled this, please feel free to upvote this.
tl;dr - T-Mobile's map shows 4+ bars where I'm moving; we (my fiancee and I) get 2... outside and that doesn't include the many dropped calls we get either. I never got a dropped call until I went to the new location. I have to pay $300 in cancellation fees because they wouldn't budge because their map is supposedly "right."

Yeah I'm seeing that now. I honestly loved the service, but now that I am moving, it's no good to me.
Contracts blow. Stupidest thing you can ever do is lock yourself into a phone contract, especially when there is the possibility of moving, and the FACT that in a few months, some OTHER carrier will probably offer a better deal. Might as well avail yourself to the chance!
It is ALWAYS better to buy your phone outright.
Note: I suspect that eventually, the US carriers will be forced out of their contract practices.... we in CANADA even already have a new NATIONAL carrier that DOES NOT OFFER contracts.
I've never understood contracts personally, I hate being tied into anything just because they give you a sparkly new phone. That's why I'm thankful T-mobile have 30 day rolling sim only deals, I can get huge discounts after a year on a newer phone upgrade, get 350 minutes (any network) unlimited text and free unlimited internet (thank you rewards) for £15 a month and can walk away with only 30 days notice anytime.

You don't need to get a used phone... the carrier will still sell you the phone without contract, just at the "full price". You can also buy your phone from a STORE rather than from the carrier.
Note: The way the contract works, you end up actually paying SIGNIFICANTLY MORE for the phone through the contract than just buying the thing from a store for full price.

The problem is that the full price of these devices is quite high. A lot of people can only afford a decent phone by getting the contract.
Another problem I had when looking at the g1 initially was a lack of good data plans on non-contract deals.
The people that are telling you it's cheaper to buy your phone outright... this really isn't the case for the G1. At launch, I purchased my G1 for $179 in 2 year contract. Unlocked would have cost $399. I needed phone service regardless, so the fact that I was paying for service is moot.
Now, when I moved, I knew I wasn't going to still get service, and didn't want to stick with T-Mobile. So I paid the $200 to get out of contract. That brings the total cost of the phone up to $379. That's pretty damn close to the $399 price point I would have paid for an unlocked phone from the start .
To the OP, your only real choice is to live with it or pay the termination fees. Read every contract you sign carefully. Service outage isn't a reason to break the contract. It sucks, but that's US carriers for you.

I'll just be glad when contracts like this are over with worldwide; cell phones could get away with murder if they wanted to. BLEH I say, haha.
We will see how things turn out with the FCC and FTC. Maybe my complaint will push them over the barrier and stop advertising fake signal readings? Roughly 5 phones report all the same exact thing, but their map is always right apparently.
BBB will probably just tell me to deal with it, so we will see on that too.

have you upgraded your radio ?
have you tried using EDGE instead ?
you seem more upset with the contract than the service, and one of those two might help things.
if you're at 2 bars with edge, ya, that's pretty bad. 2 on 3g is about average to bounce around at from my experience. 2 - 4 on 3g can mean a person standing between me and the tower.

That's why I hate contracts. You get a $600 phone for $150, but you're stuck with it for 2 years. And you envy evr1 who gets a new phone while you're stuck with yours and then in 2 years when you get a settle phone, a new one comes out a month later.
Just as an update, T-Mobile received my complaint from the FCC and took the charges off immediately. I'm only left with the last monthly bill.
Goes to show they do care about you... a little.

I will be starting my own cell phone company. Towers are in the process of being built as we speak!
Maybe you should include in the OP what all the srazy chit we have to look forward to in the future.
Ill use one of those big funky satellite phones that osama bin ladin uses.

Big Red: The iPhone (metaphor for popular, expensive and useless) of the mobile service provider industry is actually getting an iPhone (the popular, expensive and useless phone from wence the metaphor came). They're still big, popular, expensive and useless. Can't go there, next...
AT&T: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, omg *wipes tears from eyes*, haha yea right...next.
T-Mobile: Is the down syndrome-stricken child of the service provider world. They have okay phones, okay service but I haven't talked to a customer service rep yet who wasn't on their 2nd day of English-As-A-Second-Language classes yet and they have no resiliancy. I told one of them that they aren't American so they have no soul. She broke down and cried on the phone. For real, I was just angry, angry at their terrible, scripted, idiot customer service.
If I had to go anywhere it'd be back to T-Mobile, at least they have an unlimited text AND unlimited data plan that doesn't throttle you after 1 or 2GB of usage. I just need to make sure that I NEVER need customer service again. Prepare for your call to be routed to India.
The only way we are going to bring the ball back into the consumers court is we all stop signing contracts.
AT&T is going to be changing their texting plans effective Jan. 23rd. They are getting rid of $5 200 txt plan and $15 1500 txt plan. The only plans they are going to have is $10 1000 txt and $20 unlimited. It seems like all carriers are making changes at the same time.
I got rid of AT&T and won't be going back. I'll stick with Sprint.

Then we will be paying full price for our phones..... Evo is an expensive phone.
I really want to drop the carriers and ise VOIP or something else. I'm on wifi nearly everywhere I go. Do I really give a crap if I don't get a text while driving? Not really. We'll see, though. If I can make it work, I'm done letting these bastards rob me. I usually pay full price for my phones anyway.
Oo yeah I forgot to mention that AT&T is going to discontinue activation of customer owned equipment at no contract. You won't be able to activate a phone that you own with no contract. They are basically going to force people to be on contracts.

I'm probably jumping to Verizon so my wife can get an Iphone later in the year. We have three lines and one doesn't use data so that will make things actually cheaper for us because my wife has a discount through Verizon (I currently have one on SPrint)
The other thing that interests me is the Unlimited Data only plans through Tmobile. They are only 50 dollars a month and I'm wondering how good calls through Google Voice would be...if the quality isn't that bad I could just use that (since they now let you port your number to them)

I luckily get a 25 or 27% discount thru sprint. I cannot remember which one it is. Gotta love job discounts.
I have been with Sprint for 10 years. I am ready to purchase a 4G device. It is between the Evo4g on Sprint & the myPhone 4G with T-Mobile. Based on the device, and reception/coverage area will dictate which carrier I go to. The price point is basically the same. About $10 per month more with Sprint.
T-Mobile is an unknown regarding coverage and Sprint is a known.
I had 2 lines on a Free & Clear, but to switch to a 4g, I would lose that plan, and I would have to drop the 2nd line as no plan available by Sprint for 2 lines is cost effective for me. Neither is one available from T-mobile.
After 10 years, I really have no allegiance to Sprint as Allegiance with any Company these days is non existent, for me anyway, and from them to me, and others for that fact.
BUT I have read that T-Mobile may be locking their devices regarding tethering, as they are charging $!4.99/mo as of now, and may lock the devices for free tethering. I don't tether often, but I would like the option to do so.
Sprint charges the $10 surcharge for the privilege.
Doesnt really matter to me, only thing im waiting to see is if Verizon is going to put a data cap on their LTE for their smartphones. If they dont im ghost.

I'd assume this is because LTE is faster and from what I gather has a more promising future.. probably coverage expansion will be better, etc.
Wouldn't count on avoiding a cap though, and F if i'm going to pay what vzw wants for "unlimited" as compared to sprint.
Where I work and spend a huge chunk of my life these days, I get full 4G and use it to tether all my computers, more than fast enough for what I need, and I think staying with this contract will be smart over time. As long as all these companies continue their greedy practices, the value of the plan I'm on will continue to get better IMO.
When I'm month to month in a year and a half paying what I'm paying now for unlimited, I bet I won't want to switch. I'm not that concerned about getting a new phone.. I tend to hold onto my phones for a pretty long time anyway. With the dev support the EVO has (and considering it does everything I want & more anyway) I think I can get a lot of mileage out of my current situation. If I really decide I NEED a new phone somewhere down the line, I'll buy it outright and stick with what will be a cheap plan at that point

Google Voice doesn't do VOIP on phones. Right now all it does is re routes your calls through to your GV number. There are solutions that use third party VOIP services but they aren't super reliable.

Well that's their problem. They're pretty stupid to have jumped to Verizon. Especially considering that at that point if the merger did go through, they were looking at at least 18 months before they saw anything real happen to T-Mobile as we know them now.
thank god. I got At&T for 24 hours to get the new iPhone after being with T-Mobile for 8 years or so and thought their service sucked at least in Tampa. T-Mo was much faster and hella cheaper. The iPhone sucks, it's is all hype. Android all the way!
Personally, I would like to see one of the providers that use T-Mobile network buy T-Mobile. Tsimple Mobile? Walmart?
Or maybe US Cellular or other regional player can get bigger?

I can understand the sentiments between the services of T-mo and AT&T, but I'm simply looking at this from a bigger picture.
If passed, this means the USA is going more in the direction most people never wanted it to go. Government intervention between our personal, and business lives when, sometimes, there isn't anything to intervene about -- AT&T and T-mobile are big boys, they might not make the best decisions that all their customers approve of, but for the most part they should be able to settle it themselves amicably.
Next thing you know, this situation paves the road for the government managing industries like a nagging granny.
All in all, this looks good in the immediate focus, but not in the prospective future. Who wants things being held at a stop point?

I think most people agree that monopolies are generally not a good thing, no matter which end of the political spectrum you're on.
I was originally all for the merger, but after the "changes" and "streamlining" that AT&T has done so far, I think the government is doing the right thing.
As soon as the merger was approved, AT&T goes ahead and "streamlines" their text plan by giving the customers even LESS options. so now you have to either pay 20c per text and 30c per mms OR pay 20 bucks for unlimited.... They claim that the merger would provide better service for the customers and country but they're showing that the merger would make the customers pay more.
I dont know how true this is, but it technically costs AT&T 1 penny to send 5,000 text messages yet, they charge us 20 cent for 1 text message. So after actions like this, I now am completely opposed to the merger and I hope that it will not go through, so I can switch over to Tmobile when my DZ dies.

if it passes, att would have as much of a monopoly over the US cellular market as android has over the smartphone market right now. It's a decent half, but nowhere near close to the legit term.
I just don't feel it is a good thing for government to intervene, that's my gripe over the issue. It denounces the true meaning for consumer/business capitalism we once hoped to live in.
On a side note, I'm not exactly excited about AT&T fees either. It's a mixed feeling, but I don't let my personal anecdotes get into politics.

It would be a GSM monopoly, and effectively a cell carrier duopoly between AT&T and Verizon. Sprint wouldn't stand a chance if AT&T consumed T-mobile, and they'd either be bought out or disappear as well. Its just not a good thing for consumers in any way. I'm very anti-government intervention, but I really think they did the right thing here.

If it passed than you are looking at a wide variety of possibilities. The death of Sprint and other small carriers, loss of thousands of jobs...
I hate government intervention as well (i'm not a Pastafarian for nothing), but things like this do need to be investigated. Big corporations almost never care about what's in the best interest of the consumer, and mergers that radically change the landscape like this need to be examined.
AT&T didn't try to do this for the greater good, they did it to line their pockets and have more customers to screw over. They would have had too much influence in the wireless market.

on NPR, they said AT&T promised that it would move 5000 call center jobs back to the US, and NO T-Mobile call center people would loose their jobs. I'm not a fan of AT&T and would prolly switch to Sprint once the merger happens. BUT, wouldn't AT&T have to honor all the current contracts at those rates and services and grandfather them for renewal? So if your T-Mo now, you would be able to stay at your current plan indefinitely? It would just effect new customers..no? Plus i've an upgrade available and have been eyeballing the Ruby So would rather not have to switch carriers.

technically yes.
but here's how they usually change it on you. You are welcome to continue with your plan, but if you ever upgrade with AT&T into a 2 year contract for a new phone, you MUST go by their plan, in which case considering that AT&T will probably not change their infrastructure anyways, you would NEED a new phone because tmo uses a completley different set of spectrums and methods than AT&T (1 spectrum for uploads, 1 for downloads as opposed to AT&T's 1 spectrum for up and down).
Your current tmobile phone will not get 3g at all.
so essentially you'll be forced to their new plan and you have no say with what you can pretty much get since you know you have to get their $25, 2gb data plan + voice + $20 unlimited text message for sure. the only choice in this matter is whether you're going to downgrade to 200mb (i think not) and which voice plan will you be using.
so yes, they will honor the old contract, but only if you keep your old phone or buy phones at full price from at&t or somewhere else that works with at&t's bands.

I'm sure they would honor it, but having technologies that don't work together would require a lot of people to "upgrade" and sign a new contract with different rates.
As for the jobs, yes they may have the call center jobs, but what about techs, or duplication of retail stores within a certain area. How many of those would be shut down and people lose their jobs? If they really cared about bringing the jobs home and not just cash, they would've done it already.
To me it just looks like AT&T trying to prevent themselves from sinking in the long run. T-Mobile brought out 4G first, Verizon got the iPhone. Other than having the iPhone first, I don't really see much coming out of them. If this doesn't go through, it wouldn't surprise me to see Spring getting a much larger market share in the next 3-7 years.

I think it was pretty well known that T-mobile (and Sprint) is in a really tough spot right now. Neither company has been making money or increasing subscribers in a long long time.
Hello everyone,
After the worst customer experience EVER with T-mobile...I am moving on from my beloved Vibrant. Here is what happened... I paid retail for my phone using the "Equipment Instalment Plan" and entered into the non-contract plans. At that time I was told that once you enter these type of plans you cannot go back to contract plans or get phones at the discounted price unless I start over with a whole new account only to find out that in Oct 2011 I was placed onto a contracted plan which I never authorized. In most cases it wouldn't have been a big deal, but was because my some dropped my phone on my cement driveway and cracked the screen, so after finding out that it would cost $130 for the insurance replacement (I mean really, after paying all the insurance it still costs that MUCH!!! Insurance on other carriers replaces phones for way less and even free on Verizon) and just replacing the screen isn't that much different.
Anyway, I was told I could not upgrade unless I paid retail. But, T-mobile changed the way that works. When I first started the "EIP" plan, you would pay the full retail value of a phone in payments split up over 21 months which would be added to your monthly phone bill and all you would pay upfront was the first monthly instalment, but now they make you pay 1/3 of the retail value of the phone upfront and the rest over 21 months. Which to me defeats the purpose because that is basically what you pay for a phone on a 2 year contract and then of course you don't have to pay any more toward the phone after that.
So now we go back to the problem of being on the contract I never agreed to. The rep said they knew that you couldn't get back onto a contracted plan after going to EIP plans, but somehow I was able to and they couldn't reverse it. The rep said I could file a dispute by email because no one could take care of it over the phone. So, I filed my dispute and never heard back. I was really busy with work and family and basically put this whole issue on the back burner for a few months but checked back with T-mobile at the beginning of June and was told they never got my dispute. I saved my email I sent and informed them that I have confirmation they received it...still, was told I had to filed my complaint all over again. So I did and had to wait 10 days for a response which OF COURSE was declined.
I called T-mobile back (I should add that this whole time I have been very friendly with everyone I spoke to and never once got loud or disrespectful) and explained everything going on and explained that my only intention was one of two things, either pay retail on the EIP plan like I originally should have....just that it should be done in the same manner as my vibrant which was my payment upfront be only the first of 21months, or give me the upgrade price since I was put on a contract without my consent and never used an upgrade on my account. Keep in mind that at this point it has been over two years since I got my Vibrant. I was told no and no. My only option was to pay 1/3 retail and the rest over 21 months or buy a phone somewhere else.
My intention was never to leave....in fact, I was only promising that would be there for another two years, T-mobile would not be losing out on anything except keeping a customer longer and I have been with them for 6 years already. But at this point I told them either give me an upgrade or I will take my business elsewhere. The rep said they didn't want to lose my business and that they would either put me on my previous non-contract plan or they would give me the upgrade price on a new phone. So I put aside the fact that it took over 6 months for them to give in, I agree to just go with the upgrade price and stay on contract. I asked the rep if I could go to a store to complete my purchase and they said yes. So I go to the store and the rep at the store said I was misinformed on the phone and could not get the upgrade price. My only option is to pay retail.
Now I'm back to my original spot...I can only pay retail, like I did with my vibrant and be on a contract I didn't agree to and obviously didn't want in the first place, the rep I spoke to the first time couldn't figure out how I got onto contract, but couldn't reverse it and even agreed that my situation didn't make sense. I know I could get a phone on craigslist or something, but I wanted something new and an upgrade, but now it's all about the principle of the business ethics T-mobile is using with me. So as a last resort, I go to the forums on T-mobile website and post my problem there. I get several responses saying I should contact a forum this specific forum moderator (name withheld, I don't want to get into trouble) because she is known for fixing issues like mine. So I did...AND NO RESPONSE, I sent another private message and again no response and this went on for 2 weeks.
So I hit my last straw...I'm moving on. My wife and I each are getting SGS II's free and will be on a cheaper plan then we had with T-mobile by going with Sprint. I have never used Sprint, it could turn out that I don't like their service areas compared to T-mobile in my area or their network seems sluggish but either way, T-mobile again lost another long time customer.
If you actually read through all that then thank you for listening to my complaint. I didn't even list every detail about the situation and some of the events just make it even more ridiculous.
I loved the phone, but that is only because of the developers on this site. I mean that literally. So special thanks to all the devs out there...they certainly deserve every thanks they get and then some.

Wow.. seems like everything really went against you throughout the process. Instead, I wouldnt even waste time and would have began by threatening to cancel my (nonexistant) contract through the cancellation department since they have more power than your average rep.
But what is done is done, and I would do the same if I encountered that.
You might not like sprint and their mess going on over there with slow network and sketchy plan with wimax and lte. In other words, you might be miserable with their speeds, regardless of unlimited plans. Good luck. I'm looking to upgrade this vibrant to the s3 soon enough too. Served me well and still holds up against most low and mid range phones, but my GPS is just..

I know I may not care for the speeds and all, but 90% of the time I am connected to wifi anyway so it really isn't that big of a deal and there are a few people I know around here on sprint that get good data speeds. I am in MN, so it's not like the network would get as overloaded as if I were in LA or NY. Plus I got the phone for free, and it's a good phone...but only time will tell. I will miss the trusty Vib, but I am going to use it as a music player I think...cracked screen shouldn't matter to much using it for that.

One of the thing that used to separate T-Mobile from other carriers was their customer service. Their one year wooing by AT&T seems to have completely screwed this once great attribute. I too am seriously dumping T-Mobile and switching to Sprint. I have a friend with 3 lines. He (and I) always buy our phones retail/Craigslist and go with No Contract plans. At the time he was using the pre-paid plan while I was on the Even More Plus plan. Both no contract plans. After getting the Galaxy Nexus, he decided to switch over to the 5GB EMP plan, but now they don't have that plan anymore. In fact, they have no non-contract plans at all anymore. I'm pretty sure, T-Mobile's going to lose 3 more customers in a couple of months. Oh well.

Look at their Monthly 4G plans. They are very in-expensive and contract free. (You can just buy a SIM and pop it into any unlocked/t-mo phone)
so after 16 years, verizon's deciding to screw me over and take away my 21% discount because of the fact my father retired from a pharmecutial company after 35 years and verizon decided they don't want to give us the discount anymore, despite the fact he's receiving pension benefits etc.
thing is, my case is unique because i'm on a 550 min loyalty plan, and for 3 phones (and me with my unlimited data), we only pay $120 a month. that's a damn good price for verizon.
it wouldn't have stung so bad, bc my mother works for municipal govt, so we were going to apply for 15% and put it in her name..but at the last step they said sorry, you can't keep that loyalty plan, and the price will go up $30 or so to a 700 minute plan...i said, um NO, we use liek 5 minutes a month between the 3 of us, so yea, scrap that, thanks.
so now, i'm being told to jump through hoops to try to keep my discount, which i know it won't work (they want me to contact HR at the company to see if they'll give us an indiviudal 22% retiree discount..but i know they won't) and that i lose my discount the 19th.
so now, i'm pissed. after 16 years of verizon, they constnatly screw everybody over, and i'm done with it..so now i'm considering saying screw it and jumping to ATT or something and paying that ripoff of 90 something a month with limited data just to get rid of crap verizon once and for all.
what carriers are you guys looking to get the G2 on? i was going to get it thursday, but now i don't know if i should even bother, bc who knows if i'll be staying with verizon or not.
any advantages to any other carriers of verizon?
If your strictly looking at price I believe T-Mobile is cheapest but your coverage will likely suffer.. They have the phones already ready to order but aren't shipping it yet.. sprint has a 80 dollar unlimited everything plan here in Chicago for 1 lineup can check ur local market but they won't have the phone till sometime in October... I have ATT which everyone says is the second coming of Verizon but not as bad.. personally never had a problem with ATT cs or service... They are just as pricey as Verizon though.. If u just want the phone now Att is the only option currently.

thing is, even with a discount, the price we pay irght now is so low lol and since my dad is retired, i doubt they'd do anything since he's not a "current" employee, and my current job gives 15% on verizon, but nothing on ATT (i checked for my coworkers.)
honestly, i'd probably stay with verizon bc even without the discount, my phone is literally like $50 a month to just pay to my dad for when he pays the bill..while i've got unlimited data still, as opposed to the standard $90 a month.
thanks for the opinion though..i hear ATT's LTE speeds are faster too...because verizon, where i am, is pretty damn slow. in my house i get like barely 10mbps, and this market has been here for over a year now
I understand that the loss of the discount is discouraging but that is what companies do. I work for a a company that offers different discounts but when you no longer qualify for the discount then it can no longer be applied.
I don't know what city you are in or what other services would be better in your area, but if you can keep your unlimited data I would put pride aside and pay the difference and enjoy the LG G2 on Thursday.

i'm thinking about it bc of the cheap price i'm paying monthly.
i think at this point, the second verizon tries to take my unlimited away (or does) is when i'll finally leave. their price structure is literally identical to ATT, except ATT gives you 1 more gig of data for the same exact price. that's a no brainer. if they honestly want to keep me, they'll let me keep unlimited data, seeing as i don't use upgrades and i'm buying at full price.
forgot to mention that i use like 7-15 gigs every single month too, lol..

My friend, I went through a very similar situation, so hopefully I can help you. My gf and I got crappy reception at work for the past 6 years on Verizon and I finally had enough. Verizon came out to test reception and agreed that it wasn't acceptable so they waived our etf's. I was also with Verizon for 16 years.
We jumped on our friends t-mobile account to try it out and what a mistake that was. Same crappy reception at work and much worse reception overall compared to Verizon. And their building penetration sucks huge donkey balls. I would get LTE in a strip mall parking lot but not 50 feet away inside a store. It was a joke.
I strongly believe that you get what you pay for with t-mobile. And we live in San Diego, which is a major city obviously with t-mobile LTE. It sucked.
We went to AT&T and couldn't be happier! Their reception, LTE coverage, speeds and customer service are unbelievable in our short experience. I'm not looking back at all!

I've been with Sprint the past 10 years, but with my last 2 year contract coming up in 5 days, I'm dropping them. I'm simply tired of their data network always being behind the curve and false promises about it. I'll be moving to AT&T for the G2 and add a line to my wife's iPhone plan.
I have been on Verizon for probably the last 8 to 10 years. In the northwest USA they are hands down the best provider. The widest coverage and the best network speeds. But my biggest issue with them is their need to lock down every new device. I would have jumped ship a long time ago if I wasn't on a plan with my family. Im really hoping there is good development for the verizon version of the G2. I have been using a razr the last 2 years and people have done some amazing stuff with it. Hopefully the dev community keeps it going with the G2.

I could have written this same post, with two minor changes. I left Sprint after forever, tried out AT&T, and had a bad experience with them, tried T-Mobile (reluctantly), and boom, perfect service and works everywhere I work and play. Just goes to show you how location dependent different carriers are. T-Mobile loves the east coast. So now I have 2 lines on T-Mobile one unlimited everything, one 500mb for my wife who uses Wifi at home and work and averaged about 100MB per month on sprint for 100 bucks, and I get a 10 percent discount. Victory!

I just had a Tmo demo phone. Worked great in my office. Zero signal in my house (OK, I can deal with wifi if I must), zero coverage in my wifes office. That was the last straw.
Outdoors their coverage is fine, but building penetration is a problem area.

Must be an east coast thing, I get LTE in a gigantic police station on any floor I'm on. If I didn't, I wouldn't be able to have kept t-mobile as we have no Wifi to use Wifi calling and my phone always needs to work. Outdoors is great, I agree, but as long as I get a bar or 2 in my office I'm okay with that.
I currently have AT&T for my work line and T-Mobile for my personal lines, my wife uses Verizon.
Around my area T-Mobile LTE is fantastic, I pay about $128 a month for 2 lines, unlimited talk, text and unlimited high speed data. That's including the $40 a month payment for the 2 phones (S4,HTC One). I do get a 20 percent discount on my lines thanks to my wife's employee discount from Lockheed Martin. In total I use about 35-40 GB of data and T-Mobile never bats an eye.
AT&T LTE has roughly the same coverage overall but slower than T-Mobile LTE around my parts. Verizon is the slowest but they have the absolute best coverage, we would find signal on my wife's iPhone 5 in the middle of no where when we travel, same place I would be showing zero service for both AT&T and T-Mobile.
Overall, I really do love T-Mobile, I wouldn't have said the same thing a couple years ago but they have massively improved.

thing is, they kept telling me we had to change to her name to get it..which by doing that would drop my loyalty plan and go into 700 minutes for $30 more.
i finally got a supervisor and they said no, if you validate via email, it doesn't matter, it will just add it on no matter if its your mom or dads discount, bc they're adding the discount bc of the domain, not bc of whos name is on it. only time we'd need to do an AOL is if we had to manually submit with a paystub.
so, i'm gonna get the 15% once i get into work tomorrow and go into my moms email and do it. not bad, i suppose...
and i think i'm gonna just get the G2 on an upgrade. do it on my dads upgrade, then after its activated, put his flip phone back on, and then put my sim in and keep my unlimited data. the proration for 1 day of data will be like, $1, and the only other fee will be the $30 upgrade fee..that's still better than paying 600 i guess lol
now to try to sell my GS4 bc i truly can't stand it anymore..
also a long time VZW customer (gotta be at least 10 years now, if not more). Also on a grandfathered unlimited LTE plan (contract expired already, going month to month). Will probably stick it out with VZW for at least the near future. Around here in the NYC area, t-mobile is abysmal and ATT is not that much better. VZW is clearly ahead of the game in terms of voice reception, so I really have no incentive to switch.
If VZW takes away my unlimited data, I'd probably switch to Sprint, or maybe ATT

can anyone confirm this will work? My plan is also a family plan where one party has a flip phone. If this will definitely work and will not result in my losing unlimited data, I might try it. Otherwise I'm forking out the $600
yeah dude, people do it all the time. the customer service rep even told me there's no charge back for deactivating it. I'm gonna ask the rep tomorrow if he loses commission if i do that... if so i won't do it, and I'll goto best buy since they don't make commission.. if not I'll do it.

I'm on Verizon and I'm sticking with it. The only carrier I might consider is AT&T, but here's the clincher for me: coverage. Yes, I live in Baltimore/DC area so I could get good coverage from any carrier. However, my family is from a small town (we are talking population less than 1500) an hour and a half away from any city of significance, further from any real metro area. Was up there this past 4th of July and I was pulling down 18Mbps via LTE, and I had that coverage the whole way up there. AT&T just can't match it. They lag in LTE and I'm not optimistic on them because they never had a substantial build out on HSPA. That same town was Edge when Verizon had 3g coverage. Now it is at least HSPA. All I can say is Verizon cannot be touched for coverage. LTE-A is right around the corner, as-is VoLTE, and the G2 will have us covered for this capability.
