scored w/ Sprint deal - Networking

Sprint might not have the best rep, but it does have some of the best rates/plans/discounts around. I recently took advantage of a deal through a student discount website (studentrate.com). I signed up on the site, went to their Sprint deal, followed a link to Sprint.com, opened a new family plan with 2 lines w/ an EVO and EVO 3D, got $250 service credit ($125 for each # ported over from another carrier), $40 rebate ($20 per phone), and a 23% discount off my monthly bill (rebates and discount from studentrate). I'm pretty happy about how much money I just saved. Now lets hope I'm happy with Sprint's service.
Any students out there looking to save some dough this is where I found my savings..
Sprint Discount

Is this for real? That's some huge savings.

All right, I'll give it a look...

Yes it is for real, not a scam. The rebates are only for new customers and the $125 credit is actually Sprint's own promotion, which is only for new customers as well. But anyone can get the 23% as long as you're buying a new phone.

hmm thanks. I'll have to so a lil research.

Just curious, what carrier did you leave for Sprint?

I left AT&T

Has Sprint started a pre-order for the Epic Touch yet?

Came out on the 16th

Most cell companies do student discounts. I get 15% off at T-Mobile. That is on top of the huge discounts on my loyalty plans as well.

I think verizon does a 10% but it's not close to as much as Sprint gives

Ughh now that the iPhone 4S came to Sprint I wish I waited to get a phone and start a plan. maybe i ll use my dad's early upgrade to get it, or the iphone 5.

I know the T-mobile discount is not as attractive as Sprint but I really like them as a carrier, it's a shame that they didn't get the iphone because they are going to lose so many customers because of it. I really hope they get the iphone 5 when it comes out

It's a shame that carriers like C-Spire get the iPhone 4S, but T-Mobile doesn't.
Just Apple dicking around I assume.

What's C-Spire? Haven't even heard of it

Beware HTC EVO Buyers *who are leaving AT&T....
$325 ETF is only going to start from 1st June and that too only for new contracts!
Just cancel your contract on the 31st, get a Hero with Sprint, and exchange it for an EVO on the 4th. Voila!

That can't be emphasized enough. AT&T ETFs for customers currently on contract will remain $175 with the $5/month prorate regardless of this change. The new ETF will only apply to those customers signing up for a new contract with a smartphone on or after June 1, 2010.
this is just AT&T gearing up for the newest Iphone release...
And Verizon just raised their smartphone ETF to $350.
whats the EFT on tmobile??

From what I know, it also applies to upgrade customers, because an upgrade is a new contract. So if you upgrade to a smartphone, your ETF rises as well. Though you have to consider... if you're willing to upgrade, what are the chances you'll cancel your contract? Not likely, I'd say. Though there are circumstances, I'll admit.
First Verizon raised their ETF, now AT&T... I guarantee T-Mobile and Sprint will follow suit soon, that's always the way things go in this industry. So I wouldn't freak out about this, people. After all, you have to consider WHY they're raising ETFs... it's because of all the people commiting fraud around this country. Hell, I just had a guy the other day want to buy an iPhone from me, and blatantly said he was going to cancel his contract and keep the phone, allowing him the phone cheaper than if he'd bought it full price. The textbook definition of fraud XD
Now that I think about it, I should've let him... since Radioshack has ownership of the device if the contract is cancelled within 90 days ;D Would've been a kick in the pants for him, getting what he deserved.
AT&T ETF
Funny you mention this Friday I found that my contract is up today, May 23. I had to get a manager because she insisted that after today, my ETF was $175.00. No, No, I completed the terms of the contract for THIS phone, now Im just paying for its usage and can walk anytime I want! If I get a new phone (now) then I will be married to AT&T for another 2-years and ETF would apply.
This brings an interesting question into the foray: would you prefer to pay the full, un-subsidized cost of a smartphone if it meant you had no contract and no ETF's? I would think that monthly fees would be lower if handsets were un-subsidized.
Or is the current state of affairs preferable: lower unit cost, but strapped to a contract and ETF's?
What say you?

I would think AT&T or T-Mobile would, they are both GSM and if you pay full price, they could care less where you take it or what you do with it . You can even sell it overseas as GSM is pretty starndard Globally.
Sprint and Verzion are CDMA. If im sprint, IMO, I would not cut on a Verzion phone, I want you to purchase one of mine, I dont care what you paid for it. and vice versa.
well the carrier companies do that just for one and only reason. People don't care what kind of service they have anymore (basically because now it's almost standar for all the carrier services. Except if you live in a area where one carrier is working) Now all they want is the meanest, badest, sickest, phone there is on the market. We see that switch of interest with iphone. Att got soooooo many new lines cause of apple. I bet if apple knew that it would have that much of success. They would've sell the phone bythemselves. To all the carriers. Anyway i believe that's my thoughts about the new ETFS. Because now they try to get the best phones on the market. And since everybody would compete on that area. They just raise it up. As far the fraud that member Xenithflare said. I believe that the same companies are fraud! As member dsims7_2000 said, they told him that he had to pay the ETF even when he was off the contract. Now if it was somebody else he would've pay it and they wouldn't say anything to him. So they are the fraud. I know that because it happent to me before ;p

An EPIC Sprint Employee Referral Deal!

Hi all,
Welcome to Epic release day! If you haven't left the house yet to stand in line at the local Sprint store here is your chance to save a little money!
I'm a Sprint employee and the Epic is now available on the employee referral plan. (I'm an IT guy, not sales. I get nothing for doing this but the satisfaction of helping out other people ).
Here's all you need from me:
email: sal<dot>conti<at>sprint<dot>com
CID: 646
www.sprint.com/sero
Hurry while supplies last (you can also get the EVO there too, but supplies are running out!)
Please see the web page for terms and conditions. Offer is only valid on new customers or current customers adding a new line to their account.
ENJOY!
I checked it out, but it showed no discount, still $349
Wow, $249 after a $100 mail-in rebate. That's one hell of a deal, Sal.
He is referring you to the plans...
The problem is, you can't become a Premier customer on any of those plans.
They look like good prices for the plans, but I already get 25% off through my company.
Actually you do qualify for the Sprint Premier plan with the 4G phone plans.
Do Everything Plus customers qualify for Sprint Premier?Sprint Premier is our unique loyalty program giving qualified customers free gifts, discounts and upgrade eligibility every 12 months, among other perks. New Everything Plus customers will qualify for Sprint Premier after they have been a Sprint customer for 6 months and have maintained, for at least 3 months, a minimum monthly recurring charge of $69.99 on a single line or $99.99 on a family/share plan. For more information on Sprint Premier, click here.
But you automatically get an upgrade every 12 months with the referral program whether you spend the $69.99 or not.
How frequently can I upgrade my device?
Everything Plus customers are part of Sprint's New For You program and qualify for a discount after only 12 months. The amount of the discount depends on the length of your contract and the number of months you have had your current device. For more information on the New for You program, click here.
Like I said, the program details are on the webpage.
(for the record, as an employee I pay MORE for some phones than people off the street. And I can't even buy the Epic or Evo yet because of demand. I'm giving you better than I get myself )
...
Quick question: I already have a line of service, but I'm going in today to get a new 2 year agreement and upgrade to the Epic. Can I use this deal?
Thanks,
-Rob

Can't get "Plus" plan
Hi,
First off I'd like to express my thanks for allowing people to use your employee referral information. It's appreciated!
I went to the Sprint store (San Leandro, CA) on launch day armed with Russ's info thinking I could get the Plus plan for me and my Fiancé. The store clerk said that the "Plus" plans do not offer the Epic 4G and he could not sign me up for a "Everything data Plus" family plan. He assured me the account can be changed after the fact into a "Plus" account. Reluctantly I signed up for the regular plan after repeated assurances that the plan can be turned into a "Plus" variant further down the line.
Now how do I actually make this happen? I'm assuming it is actually possible as I thought given the nature of this forum topic. Can one of you nice Sprint people give me some advice?
Thanks!

Sprint increasing 3G data plan pricing by $10/mo

WTF is this all about ?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/18/sprint-increasing-new-3g-data-plan-contract-pricing-by-10-call/
The nation's third-largest carrier just announced that it's tacking on an extra monthly $10 "premium data" charge to its 3G Everything data plans.
Now only if my Evo could operate at 3g speeds that would be freaking awesome.
FYI: 70Kbps is not acceptable for 3g speeds, wtf.
Learn to read. It's only for new customers and new smartphone activations via upgrades. If you don't upgrade then you don't get the charge.

Still a slap in the face. That means when your contract is up and you buy that new phone, you are also paying 10$ more (can anyone confirm if this is added onto the 10$ we pay for 4g?).
I'm pretty sure if you have a 4G phone that comes with a $10 charge anyway, you'll just keep paying the same additional $10. I think this extra $10 is only for people on 3G phones. So basically, everyone's paying that additional $10 now.
The "4g" fee now applies to all smartphones, that's all.

it can't get much clearer then this people, so no if you have a 4g phone you won't be paying $20, you only be paying the $10 that we already are, this additional fee is just for regular 3g phones.
Yeah. The are starting to see $ signs and possibly getting greedy. I'm going to follow this thread so I can see the same people claim that it's all lies.
The funny thing is I was talking to a rep yesterday about the new upgrade policy and brought up the $10 premium data. I asked her how come an HTC Hero doesn't have the charge and it accesses the same internet and it considered close to the Evo aside from 4G. I even told her that I would expect Sprint to make that charge mandatory on all phones being that they are seeing they can get away with it with current Evo owners.
That's the price you pay for a smartphone nowadays.
Wouldn't a better marketing strategy be to just incrrease the cost of the Everyting data plan to $79.99 and $139.99? Even with the increase Sprint's plans are the best out there. Extra charges piss me off though.

that would make more since honestly, but then what about the 4g phones then, lol, since a single line for the evo is already 79.99, that would be like tacking on another $10 on that so they could say it's a whatever fee, then someone ends up paying 89.99, cause they didn't realize they are getting screwed more then normal, though i would hope and think sprint would say the evo would only be 79.99 as any other smartphone would be.
So I guess its clear now that the David Blaine thing on the 7th is for making more of your money disappear along with premium status.

Well all you "4g premium fee" complainers. Not so unfair you have to pay an extra 10 bucks anymore? LOL. Part of me is wondering if this is their way to make the 4g phone lineup more appealing..."you're gonna pay a premium anyways, why not have the ability to use 4g just in case we decide to roll it out in your city...as long as we don't go broke before then."
Welcome to the (give us money) NOW network!
my guess is that their announcement has to do with adding new cool phones that are 3G.
iphone could be a possibility, but maybe they'll say they allow any CDMA phone on their network.

Funny, when I was on the phone with a Sprint rep last month getting my unlocked EVO activated the lady said they can activate phone 'as long as its labeled with the Sprint logo'. I figured she was wrong or lying but I just wanted to get off the phone.
It's about to get worse. There are rumors that Sprint is going to drop the Premier Upgrade every 12 months program. That they will NOT give Sprint Premiere customers the rebates until their two year contract is up. IF this is the case I will be leaving Sprint as soon as they announce this. They just can't get out of their own way. One of the main reasons I stay with Sprint is because of their annual upgrades. It would not shock me to see Sprint file bankruptcy if they start to implement all these idiotic plans.
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216413
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/58531?start=0&tstart=0&reqsorting=dec
The thing that sucks about this and might be the reason why they just didn't add $10 to plans is that corporate or work discounts do not apply to these fees and only towards the base plan. I was mad when they took the discounts off the $19.99 additional lines.
I won't leave Sprint over this because they are still cheaper, especially with our work discount but I guess I have no reason not to get my wife a 4G phone. I was hoping to save some money since we get 4G at work but not at home and she wouldn't use 4G anyway.
However, if this happens in addition to the Sprint Premier changes, I am going to get really mad for getting screwed in two places.
As long as my data is still unlimited i'll be happy. I don't come anywhere near 2gb or 5gb but if they start screwing around i'll say screw it and buy a damn contract free phone. I like my mobile internet but what they're all doing now is getting a little silly.
They have to raise prices as needed but they should've just upped the whole plan without a $10 tack on. The whole point of Sprint's pricing scheme is to keep it simple for people. That was one of the biggest reasons I came to sprint this year. That and the EVO of course

T-mobile customer considering sprint

Ever since the news on the possible buyout of tmobile, ive been looking into other possible carriers and sprint seems to be the best fit. Im on a no contract family plan now and refuse to go with at&t. Verizon is appealing but I beleive its going to cost a lot more to get what im getting already or through sprint. Although there is no real hurry since the deal has not gone through, i am really liking the deal on porting your number or for $125 and google voice integration. I live outside philadelphia so the coverage looks good. Ive also tried the aim email discount and appears to give me a discount on the 1500 family plan. So I would like to hear others opinions on whether I should jump on now or wait. I figured i could sell my samsung vibrant now since its still worth some money and help pay for two evos.
Hell No
Don't buy an Evo as it is now outdated. Sprint has good service but you need to root to unlock the Evo's capabilities. Don't jump the gun yet as the deal may not go through. I would say wait till summer for the Evo 3D or for the Samsung Galaxy S2! Any who if the deal does not go through I will go back to T-Mobile because I travel to Europe a lot.

I believe it's only for new customers or upgrading customers so it might work in your situation. 1600min is $109.99 + $10 per smart phone for premium data
Ill keep that in mind as both seem to work for the discounts. My plan is to get the evo with the $125 credit which basically almost pays for itself, then sell it when the newer phones comes out. I just hate to wait it out and lose out on the porting discount but I also dont want to make a mistake either.

as much as I would outright say "Go Sprint!", I would recomend you find someone that Actually has a Sprint phone, and one with 4G, have them bring it to your house (or where ever you use your phone most, perhaps a fave bar?), and TEST the service. Same with work.
That being said, it sounds like you have a good plan in place for keeping current with the best phones.
Good Luck!
The other factor is that I can still get singer decent money for my vibrant now.I'm afraid that if I wait too long I won't get much for it. I did go to the mall and test out the phone in there but I don't know if they have some setup to boost the signal. But it had good speed there

I have a plan on both, and in my particular locale it basically (ignoring pricing) works down to two things. Sprint has much better overall "make and do not drop" call coverage, and T-Mobile has far far superior data speeds but notably less reliable coverage. Again, both of these things are entirely area dependant and may not apply to you at all.

Me too.
Why don't you first sign up and try the service WITHOUT cancelling your T-Mobile account and hold off on porting your number over until you've tried out Sprint during the initial 30 day trial period. During the initial 30 days, you can try the Sprint service out in the areas that you'll most likely use it and get a more accurate assessment of how good the service will be FOR YOU, instead of people's opinions here (especially knowing that service will vary from area to area). Afterwards, if you like the service, then port your T-Mobile number over and you'll be good to go. But if Sprint's service and the phone aren't what you hoped they would be, return the phone within your 30 days and try another carrier.
However, keep in mind that I'm not sure what the requirements are for the $125 service credit are - I would read the fine print and make sure you get information from a corporate store.
Hope this helps.

Talking to these people is like talking to a brick wall. I finally got to the point of constantly asking for a supervisor. Of course they were all busy. They are supposed to call me back but I am not holding my breath.
They told me I could transfer to a prepaid and port my number but I would have to pay the ETF of $199. I laughed and said do it. I'll be saving $60/month. Contract is not up until December. I'll save $480 by switching and it will cost me $199. Sign me up now!!!!
Then they got prepaid sales on the phone.....That is when the bull**** started!!!
First they told me my phone was not compatible. Couldn't tell me why, just that it wasn't compatible. It just wouldn't work.
You see, that Verizon is different.....It is prepaid. That's different. LOL. Scmucks.
I asked them who I currently make my check out to. They said Verizon. I asked who I would be paying on the new plan. They said Verizon. Then the customer service script reader said "But it is different!"
When I pushed them on why it wouldn't work, all they would say is that it wouldn't.
I started pushing for a supervisor and mentioned my picture of the offer of service for $50. There is not a single asterisk on it. It is pretty plain.
Well I may call them again since they haven't called me back. Maybe be an asshat and make a customer service rep have a bad day and cuss about evil customers.
Hell. I am bored and have never been to small claims. That would be fun to do. J/K..... Maybe......
Do those plans really have unlimited data ?
I'm so fed up with Verizon. I thought they wouldn't be bad but they seem to be getting worse and worse. I had Alltel and they were great. Verizon isn't as good. Now I'm just using T-Mobile prepaid because it's cheap since I can't afford my Verizon phone bill.

I used to work at Verizon and also Sprint (non-corporate stores). The Sprint one was run like a corporate store and looked exactly the same as one, but the Verizon store was owned by my then-boss who was a ****.
What OP is seeing is probably Verizon's $50 a month prepaid, which only works with Blackberries and ****ty prepaid phones. I agree it's bull****. I think the people that go to Verizon and pay their ridiculous rates either have no choice due to where they live or just don't think about it. Their prices are RIDICULOUS. I was on Sprint while I worked at Verizon.
I'm pretty sure that $50 plan is only for select feature-phones, no smartphones at all. This was unveiled a year back in fact.

So basically they give unlimited web on basic phones only knowing that people won't really use much bandwidth on those. Plus the phones pictured don't even have 3G radios, I only see a 1X signal indicator.
I wanted to try to opt out of data since I can pick up wifi pretty much everywhere except when driving, but Verizon forces you to either pay $30 a month or not use a smartphone. There are times when mobile data is nice, but I could live without it. I'll probably be moving to Page Plus after my contract is up since instead of an upgrade credit, I will now have an upgrade fee if I stay with Verizon. Apparently loyal customers are a burden now at Verizon, they give new customers better deals on phones and don't really help out loyal customers anymore.
