Not to put a damper on things, but I work for TMO care in an un-named higher position. Feel free to call, but don't expect that to be the case. There isn't an official "offer" like that going on and if it has happened, it has been a judgment call by the rep and/or sup. But speaking from experience, this kind of thing is rare.
Just want to avoid banging heads against a brick wall.

Thanks for clearing things up. I know it's the CSR's call, but it has worked for several people on the T-Mo forums, but obviously, it's hit or miss. Anyway, it's worth a try regardless.
what other deals/benefits can we get from the t-mob?
If you've been with T-Mobile for a long time you would have a much easier time getting preferred features.

Been with tmo for like 7 years and they wouldnt sell me for $165
I did this on the relese day... Worked. I did have to call in twice and as I was nearly out of contract they knew I could walk.
When I called on July 13th to get an official confirmation on the release of the Vibrant, I also wanted to disable a 3rd line I had that is no longer in use. the CSR transferred me to another dept (which I later learned to be the Loyalty dept). I told them to disconnect my 3rd line and the reason was that it was no longer in use by my cousin who changed carriers.
The Loyalty Rep was trying to convince me to leave the line open. And seeing that I was interested in the Vibrant, he would be able to give it to me for 99 because that line was out of contract. Since my main line was out of contract, I asked him about that and he said that under my account, any of my 3 lines was eligible for a loyalty discount, but it is only available over the phone.
I called on the 15th and they had to verify what was entered in the notes for the loyalty discount.
I got mine for 99. I cited that I can get it from Amazon, Android And Me, etc. for that price.
I was lucky enough for T-mobile to give me the vibrant for $200 even though I just got a new plan with them around 3 months ago. So I don't think I'll be pushing my luck.

Loyalty refused to credit me 100$ even though I was out of contract before my upgrade, and threatened to leave for Sprint. But they lowered my monthly bill by 20$.

That'll work. They just saved you $480 over the course of your contract. Not a bad deal, and a whole lot better than $100 credit.
I decided to give CS a call, mentioned I was an Amazon Prime customer and Amazon has it for $99. Ended up getting a $100 credit to my account! Thanks T-Mobile!

A few weeks ago, I placed a call to T-mobile customer loyalty personnel, first line of defend declined to match Costco $100 price. I escalated the issue and politely requested to speak to the supervisor, a few minutes later I got T-mobile to agree on $149 with free 2 days shipping & no activation fee.
I have 8 lines with T-mobile and have been a loyal customer for over 5 yrs. T-mobile CS was fantastic and cordial during the "negotiation".

So this has been coming up a lot and I want to make something VERY clear to a few members on here who wish to back up Sprint/Evo whenever possible without looking at the facts.
Most of the members on here flame other people who complain about the extra $10 a month charge. I have been here, I have seen it and from day one I have been against the extra fee. Members have been so harsh and irrational as to say "Idiot you signed up without reading the contract?" or "Obviously said an extra $10 you don't HAVE to get this phone" etc etc etc.
Fine. You win. We didn't have to get this phone nor Sprint etc.
But let me make something VERY f*****g clear.
Sprint outlined that we pay an extra $10 for a "richer data experience" and "truly unlimited bandwidth". Now, the same logic applies to Sprint. So when I see users such as fachadick going off on how WE are stupid for downloading whatever we want yet he criticizes people for not wanting to pay the extra $10 a month it makes me question his line of thought. Clearly we pay an EXTRA amount for nothing other than Sprint to capitalize on their 'new iPhone killer'.
Lets face the facts:
Sprint clearly outlined our Evos to have unlimited bandwidth usage and that is the bottom line on the deal. A lot of members need to get off Sprints nuts and realize they are a mega corporation just like anyone else. If they had the iPhone they would be hijacking their prices and capping their bandwidth just to make extra cash too. This is how companies work.
If you need more evidence look into computer hardware. Currently, AMD is considered the best price/performance valued CPU on the market. There are a TON of AMD fanbois going around saying "we support AMD because they are an amazing corporation that does not cheat their customers like Intel does"
Bull****. When AMD was on top they were selling their native quad cores @ 1,000 when Intel was selling theirs for ~ 400. These server markets were untapped and AMD had the performance advantage. Now the tides have turned and people support AMD for the other reason.
The point I'm trying to make is there is a lot of FANBOISM going on in these forums. I have accepted it with phones but when people start to do it with carriers it just pisses me off. Carriers don't care just like any other corporation. Members here have to understand there is no difference between Sprint/ATT/Verizon/Criket/Metro etc besides their prices and the phones they offer. In the end, ALL of us are being f****d by their ridiculous prices and horrible customer support. Other industrialized countries have far better speeds and much cheaper prices than we do.
All in all, if Sprint cant back up their 'truly unlimited extra $10 a month b***hit' then let them fail - that is how capitalism works. The consumers get shafted with ****ty prices but we also get the best that the producers are willing to offer at the time.

I did argue with the sales man about why should I pay extra for 4g because I'm a two hour drive from the nearest 4g coverage.

No, the service is much different. CDMA is much stronger here than GSM. I have, many times, seen ATT/T-Mobile phones drop coverage completely while I wouldn't even loose data on my EVO. Metro isn't in my area, but Cricket is sh!t and not just in my area, everywhere. Dropped calls everywhere, hidden charges, ect. Also, I have had FANTASTIC customer service with Sprint and terrible customer service with ATT. I have not used Verizon or T-Mobile in a long time so I cannot comment on their customer service.
Honestly, yes we are paying MORE than the service costs, otherwise why would they provide that service? It costs about $6/month to provide service to a customer for the major carriers, possibly less. The point of ANY business is to convince the consumer that what they are buying is worth more that it actually is, which they have successfully done. It is worse in the wireless industry because there is much less government regulation, which is slowly changing. Other countries DO NOT have far better speeds on wireless networks, the US has the most robust 4G network in the world, though it is still weak. Wired connections are a different story, but we are not talking about that.
As bad as it may sound, our economy is based on deception of the consumer to maximize profits, that is just how capitalism works. Also, I really don't mind paying the $10 surcharge, 5 EVOs on Sprint (or EPICs) would cost $240/month while Verizon would cost $300/month and ATT would cost you $245/month (note that is for 2GB per phone and not unlimited) and T-Mobile costs you $250/month. And those prices are for the lowest minutes possible, while on Sprint we get any mobile. Now, I'm not going to say Sprint is the end all for all carriers, it is possible for any of the carriers to change their policies and prices. I have changed carriers 3 times, Verizon to T-Mobile, to ATT, to Sprint and have never been more satisfied with my service. That is partly due to the increased footprint of all networks, not just Sprint, but not only reception, full service.

Is this argument still going on? It's a service. The company offering the service puts a price on it. If you find the service worth the price then you should buy it. If you think it is overpriced for the value you will gain out of it, then you should not buy it.
I personally find it worth $10 to have access to any city-wide Wimax hotspot as well as uncapped 3G data. That's why I bought the phone and the associated plan. Either way it is cheaper than similar Wimax-less and capped plans on Verizon or AT&T.
If you don't use a ton of data or Wimax then maybe you should buy one off contract and then activate it or maybe pick another phone/plan.
The world isn't perfect. Most things are a compromise. Ultimately the minutiae of high end wireless data plans and devices is a first world problem and I prefer to save my energy for other things.

I'm a fanboi because I think the $10 charge is legitamate? OK, let's go over it again. Devices that have the premium data fee do give you a richer experience. If you just want unlimited data, get yourself a Hero or Moment, and avoid that extra $10 fee. What does the $10 get you? Well, Sprint charges $29.99 for the hotspot feature on the evo and epic, but without the EVO or Epic, you would need the Overdrive from Sprint to acheive the same functionality, which would cost you $60/month. The extra $10/month on the Evo/Epic gives you access to this same functionality for half the price.
The $10 also gives you access to devices with a front facing camera, which gives a much better experience with video chat applications, and lets not forget the access to nationwide wimax access (which just opened up where my office is, and I'm consistently pulling 7mb down. Again, if you don't feel that those items are any type of enhancement, or worth $10, go with a hero or moment, or hell, even the i1 - those are all android devices on sprint where you can get unlimited data without the $10 fee or access to what that $10 gets you.
As far as abusing the unlimited data goes, it's not that people are using the unlimited data that is causing the issue - by all means, use that data, after all, it's included in the plan. What will eventually screw us all over is the fact that people are using the unlimited data, and abusing the prohibited network usage clause in their contracts while doing so.
You're right, Sprint is just another big corporation. That's the whole point. Now that people are abusing the probited network usage clause, and not only using wireless tething for free and using it their main connection to the internet at home, but are also using it for things like torrents, and just to see how much they can actually download for the hell of it, there becmes a point where it no longer makes financial sense for them to offer unlimited data so cheap (compared to the other carriers) - and then we all lose out.

If you weren't aware of the $10 charge or didnt pay attention cuz you were too excited about getting your new phone, THATS YOUR FAULT! Not Sprint's. Just like what's been said before, Sprint offers other Android phones that don't come with an extra $10 fee. If it bothers you that much, sell your EVO on Craigslist or eBay and buy one of them.

You know...I don't "like" paying an extra $10, but I feel it is fully worth it.
As of a week ago, I have an add a line with a hero. First android phone for my gf, and she has been on the thing constantly. Guess what? Light usage for me and I have used three times the data in an identical time frame. The two ROMS I downloaded were on 4G so they don't add to the total.

Yeah ok... I was never told about it when I purchased. Also.. signing the contract was digital so I saw nothing on any fees or pricing. Hell I didn't even know about it when I went on this forum. Again. I'm not really mad about paying for it.. not at all... but not everyone was told about it.. I gave him my info. Was told to sign twice on the electric pad and picked the 69.99 package. Turned my phone on and activated, printed out the contract form and told me thanks for joining sprint.. so you tell me when I was told about it. The package says unlimited data. I asked a Rep at the store and its for 4g service and owning a premium smartphone. Nothing about unlimited data? I was told I could go to blackerry and have same plan and have "unlimited 3g" so again its for 4g and owning the already paid for phone. I rather pay 10 bucks even if not here if it helps get it faster in Wisconsin. But don't say its for the unlimited data crap.. or they told you.. because not everyone was told about it.
Edit: the printed contract was stuff in the bag with the evolution box as soon as it printed and handed to me thanking for choosing sprint. So again never seen a contract.

I never mentioned anything in post about "contract". I'm not trying to argue or call you out, I'm simply saying the tiniest bit of research of the phone prior to purchase would've revealed the extra $10 charge. It was displayed on Sprint and BB's websites. I never saw a contact or was ever told by the Sprint rep that sold me the phone either.

I will be starting my own cell phone company. Towers are in the process of being built as we speak!
Maybe you should include in the OP what all the srazy chit we have to look forward to in the future.
Ill use one of those big funky satellite phones that osama bin ladin uses.

Big Red: The iPhone (metaphor for popular, expensive and useless) of the mobile service provider industry is actually getting an iPhone (the popular, expensive and useless phone from wence the metaphor came). They're still big, popular, expensive and useless. Can't go there, next...
AT&T: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, omg *wipes tears from eyes*, haha yea right...next.
T-Mobile: Is the down syndrome-stricken child of the service provider world. They have okay phones, okay service but I haven't talked to a customer service rep yet who wasn't on their 2nd day of English-As-A-Second-Language classes yet and they have no resiliancy. I told one of them that they aren't American so they have no soul. She broke down and cried on the phone. For real, I was just angry, angry at their terrible, scripted, idiot customer service.
If I had to go anywhere it'd be back to T-Mobile, at least they have an unlimited text AND unlimited data plan that doesn't throttle you after 1 or 2GB of usage. I just need to make sure that I NEVER need customer service again. Prepare for your call to be routed to India.
The only way we are going to bring the ball back into the consumers court is we all stop signing contracts.
AT&T is going to be changing their texting plans effective Jan. 23rd. They are getting rid of $5 200 txt plan and $15 1500 txt plan. The only plans they are going to have is $10 1000 txt and $20 unlimited. It seems like all carriers are making changes at the same time.
I got rid of AT&T and won't be going back. I'll stick with Sprint.

Then we will be paying full price for our phones..... Evo is an expensive phone.
I really want to drop the carriers and ise VOIP or something else. I'm on wifi nearly everywhere I go. Do I really give a crap if I don't get a text while driving? Not really. We'll see, though. If I can make it work, I'm done letting these bastards rob me. I usually pay full price for my phones anyway.
Oo yeah I forgot to mention that AT&T is going to discontinue activation of customer owned equipment at no contract. You won't be able to activate a phone that you own with no contract. They are basically going to force people to be on contracts.

I'm probably jumping to Verizon so my wife can get an Iphone later in the year. We have three lines and one doesn't use data so that will make things actually cheaper for us because my wife has a discount through Verizon (I currently have one on SPrint)
The other thing that interests me is the Unlimited Data only plans through Tmobile. They are only 50 dollars a month and I'm wondering how good calls through Google Voice would be...if the quality isn't that bad I could just use that (since they now let you port your number to them)

I luckily get a 25 or 27% discount thru sprint. I cannot remember which one it is. Gotta love job discounts.
I have been with Sprint for 10 years. I am ready to purchase a 4G device. It is between the Evo4g on Sprint & the myPhone 4G with T-Mobile. Based on the device, and reception/coverage area will dictate which carrier I go to. The price point is basically the same. About $10 per month more with Sprint.
T-Mobile is an unknown regarding coverage and Sprint is a known.
I had 2 lines on a Free & Clear, but to switch to a 4g, I would lose that plan, and I would have to drop the 2nd line as no plan available by Sprint for 2 lines is cost effective for me. Neither is one available from T-mobile.
After 10 years, I really have no allegiance to Sprint as Allegiance with any Company these days is non existent, for me anyway, and from them to me, and others for that fact.
BUT I have read that T-Mobile may be locking their devices regarding tethering, as they are charging $!4.99/mo as of now, and may lock the devices for free tethering. I don't tether often, but I would like the option to do so.

Where I work and spend a huge chunk of my life these days, I get full 4G and use it to tether all my computers, more than fast enough for what I need, and I think staying with this contract will be smart over time. As long as all these companies continue their greedy practices, the value of the plan I'm on will continue to get better IMO.
When I'm month to month in a year and a half paying what I'm paying now for unlimited, I bet I won't want to switch. I'm not that concerned about getting a new phone.. I tend to hold onto my phones for a pretty long time anyway. With the dev support the EVO has (and considering it does everything I want & more anyway) I think I can get a lot of mileage out of my current situation. If I really decide I NEED a new phone somewhere down the line, I'll buy it outright and stick with what will be a cheap plan at that point

I'm probably jumping to Verizon so my wife can get an Iphone later in the year. We have three lines and one doesn't use data so that will make things actually cheaper for us because my wife has a discount through Verizon (I currently have one on SPrint)
The other thing that interests me is the Unlimited Data only plans through Tmobile. They are only 50 dollars a month and I'm wondering how good calls through Google Voice would be...if the quality isn't that bad I could just use that (since they now let you port your number to them)

Google Voice doesn't do VOIP on phones. Right now all it does is re routes your calls through to your GV number. There are solutions that use third party VOIP services but they aren't super reliable.

Why not?
I mean, if you've used your upgrade and don't have one available, then you'll have to pay full price.
But, getting a replacement device does NOT use your upgrade.
The only issue with this is that it isn't really a deal for your friend. Sure he might get a phone. but he isn't saving anything. Sprint are full of liars. if you change your plan. they tack on another year or two onto their contract. They won't tell you about this. The friend WILL be forced to change his low cost plan. However, I think this action is illegal. But since they are so big, no one ever challenges them in court.

I personally work for Sprint and can promise you we do NOT extend your contract for just changing your plan. The only reasons a contract would be extended are if you use your upgrade to get a new phone, or take a save offer like a percentage discount or credit. Now if the friend has a super old plan, yes, the plan will need to be updated, but the contract will not be extended because of it.

That contradicts what the sprint customer service told me. I was going to buy the EVO 3D on ebay because I'm not up for an upgrade yet. I was told that when I go to upgrade to any phone that has not been on my plan before, the date on my contract would be renewed for 2 yrs even though I didn't get the phone through sprint.

That is absolutely false.
You have to sign, whether it be digitally or what-have-you, to agree to a new contract.
The only time the plan would have to be modified is if you don't have data on your plan and you move to a smart phone but even then it wouldn't renew your contract.

Pretty much... And as a Sprint rep myself, I tell people all the time (whether I'm supposed to or not) to check out eBay if they aren't eligible for upgrade. The only problem with that is you've gotta be careful because some of the phones sold on there are flagged as lost/stolen or fraud.

Yeah that is a danger but its safer than Craigslist where it is likely flagged lost/stolen/fraud AND you might get shot.
(Happened in my area like five months ago, kid was trying to sell a phone for $40, its a piece of green paper with a number on it folks ...smh)
Somebody named Joseph Pachen? (could not understand his name?). from Sprint customer service told me that it would be $549 to get an HTC EVO 3D. So I said I would get it on ebay & he said that I'd still be screwed over because they would make me renew for 2 yrs EVEN though I had not gotten it through Sprint or the upgrade plan. He said if I put on a new phone that was not already on my account that it would renew my 2 yr contract. I already have an EVO with the $10 data plan so I should not have to change my plan. If it's not true that is great. But how can I be sure since it appears the policy being told is different when I call customer service. Is it in writing somewhere? That is the frustrating thing about this. This rep, Joseph, said he made sure to tell people that because people were not aware of this Sprint policy.

I'll see if I can't dig up something that contradicts that, because to be honest with you (and I'm not trying to sound like a total ass because I don't doubt for a second that you were told that) but I do that SAME job for 40 hours a week for the last 3 years, and NEVER has a contract been extended for activating a phone that WASN'T purchased from us. I have no idea where he pulled THAT information out of.
Again, I'm not doubting you were told that information. But I swap phones pretty much ALL DAY LONG and the only time a contract gets updated is when a purchase for one is made for a NEW device, not just a standard swap.

Did you go to a corporate store or an "authorized retailer"?
I find the best thing to do if I want the most accurate information is to talk to a corporate manager or talk to a manager via *2.

Unfortunately I can't speak for other reps, but I can assure you we aren't "told to say those things" to "purposely screw" you. Please don't stereotype.
I work as an ISC tech and I lie all the time. Actually nothing I say (or leak) is true. I'm the most untrustworthy source of info in these forums.
Seriously now. This doesn't fall under my Sprint S&R thread so I'll just leave it here. Swapping a phone DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR CONTRACT OR UPGRADE ELIGIBILITY STATUS. All it takes is a device swap on the line in question and provisioning the new device. That's it, nothing else, no hoops or magic tricks. If anybody tells you otherwise they are WRONG.

Joseph is an idiot. Are you sure you weren't roaming and called Verizon? You can activate your own phone on Sprint.com, you'll see no contract extension, upgrade change or plan change if you're already on a smartphone qualifying plan.

I think we should educate people about prepaid service and how much money they will save when switching over. People seem to just hop on a contract, thinking it's the only way to have cell service, when that's just not true.
Virgin mobile has a good comparison chart here. Their service uses sprint's network and costs a fraction of what Sprint's service costs. (Sure, Virgin doesn't roam on verizon like sprint does, but if you're covered by sprint without roaming, you're fine. The coverage is better than you'd think for VM).
Beyond Virgin Mobile, you have, in my opinion, one of the best deals around: Straight Talk's Bring Your Own Phone program. You can get a sim card for either AT&T's or T-Mobile's network and simply put it into any phone you like. $45/month = unlimited everything + no contracts. I am using their AT&T sim right now in my galaxy nexus and have so far been really impressed at their service.
So can someone who has a contract explain what the logic behind signing is? It just seems like you're pissing your money away.

But there is one thing that I always have a glitch in mind though, that is the "unlimited data" advertised by ST or the alike, is it REALLY unlimited data like one tied to contract? or just a so-called MOBILE WEB, which is NOT 100% like we expect?

There is also the T-Mobile/Walmart deal for $30/month if you don't talk a lot (100 voice, unlimited text, 5 GB of full speed data).

-Most people cannot see savings long term - only that the subsidized price is cheaper.
-Roaming agreements - prepaid has none.
-U.S. carriers often limit prepaid options for phone/plans. (e.g. you cannot use phone X on plan Y).
-U.S. carriers (except T-Mobile) don't have reduced cost for postpaid, off-contract plans. Going off contract, postpaid with AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint means that you pay full retail price for the phone AND the same monthly price you would if you were on contract.
I am able to do with my phone whatever I want when I need to do it.

- Are you sure? I use ST and I roam on T-mobile when I don't have AT&T coverage
- I agree completely. They do with cdma phones. GSM, however, makes it very difficult to limit what phones your prepaid customers use

I also can do whatever I want when I need to do it, including switching phones and/or providers at no cost, and yet I pay a fraction of what you pay for otherwise identical service.
The postpaid pricing model just perplexes me. Prepaid should be more expensive because of the flexibility, yet it's that flexibility to switch that keeps prices competitive. Postpaid, on the other hand, gets to charge whatever it wants for service.

Ok got that off my brain, now I have been "throttled" at 7.5GB. Verizon this meens war, with ICBMS or in my case the FCC, the BBB and when I can make a good set of videos the NEWS.
I am uploading my proof now and I had used 72GB with AT&T still could get 4-8 times more speed.
Verizon I played with the ball in your court, now you will be playing in mine and your not going to like it.
Point: Verizon you suck and you HAVE TO BE M.A.D to join them now. there 4G is garbage
moving on to pre paid: I am trying to get my dad to use ST , but really it would cost a bit more, becuase he use's Pre-paid allready. LOL

In fact, "service" departments associated with TracFone wireless (ie: TracFone, Net10, SafeLink, StraightTalk) are complete garbage. I used to sell lots of their prepaids and it was all nice and cheap till you need to contact them. Hopefully their IVR can help you because if you are transferred to a live representative, may god help you, because TracFoney won't.
That's why I have a contract, oh and insurance.
Actually, I agree with t the post above. I love having a cheap plan on an awesome phone but the customer service is horrible. Also, I have recently read horror stories about people getting kicked off of ST with no warning because they exceeded their monthly data limit. Not having a contract means you can leave any time, but also means your provider can change the rules or kick you out at any time. Apparently there are people on Verizon grandfathered into old unlimited data plans who use 70+ gb per month and have no repercussions. That's epic: D

I have BOTH postpaid (family plan) contract service and THREE prepaid accts. (Two with T-Mobile and one with RedPocket)
I still prefer the customer service and the account level detail (online) with postpaid....

And my GNex was subsidized. Paid 100$ for it. 3 year contract but each year I can get a new phone subsidized.
I am paying less for my plan and my phone than the no contract folks over the duration of my contract. I just know how to talk to the workers for deals, and discounts.

Actually, if you were on prepaid through even Verizon ($50/month), you'd have unlimited everything. However, were you to switch to Virgin Mobile, you would only pay $70 for 2 lines, however you would get 600 minutes/month, which is probably still more than enough for 2 people.

I didn't sign it. Hubby did while I was out of town so he could get his shiny new iPhone 4S even after I had spent literally hours on the phone with AT&T arguing over the PDA Connect Unlimited feature I had grandfathered on my Atrix. 6 months after I purchased the Atrix & Lapdock and had merrily been tethering & docking with absolutely no problems--AT&T decided they weren't going to honor my PDA Connect Unlimited feature any more and I absolutely must "upgrade" to their 4G data plans. WTF? Why wait until I'm 6 months into a contract to change it? And their excuse was that my now 6 months old Atrix wasn't "compatible" with my current data plan. Really? It works fine for me. Long story, short--they agreed to credit me for the remaining 18 months of my PDA Connect Unlimited feature & I agreed not to tether any more. Customer service is a concern? This is the same company that way back in the day actually told me that Free Call Forwarding doesn't mean we won't charge you for it--it just means you can do it all you want. Also the same company that tried to tell me that I absolutely had to upgrade my old Nokia (Charlie's Angels phone) to a GAIT phone because it was going to stop working. How long did those GAIT phones last? Not nearly as long as my Nokia. I can't speak for the other big US cell carriers but AT&T has the absolute worst customer service reps on the phone and franchise stores. The company store reps are much better but only enough to fix whatever the dingbats in corporate broke or tried to screw me out of. On June 24th--the first iPhone is going to Straight Talk. In November the second iPhone is going to whomever is the best deal at the time. Next year in May--the remaining iPhone and my Atrix will kiss AT&T good bye forever! As for insurance--try Square Trade or Service Net or better yet--look at the freaking deductible AT&T is charging on cell phones. For my Atrix, they wanted to charge me $6 per month and should anything happen to my phone--I would have to pay $150 deductible. I bought the phone refurb for $99. Are they crazy? At one point--they wouldn't even offer insurance on smart phones.
Sorry to hear about that. There's a reason why major carriers are so much more profitable than small prepaid ones.

I agree. Actually there are some good prepaid deals for just talk and text too. Smart Talk is 35. My smartphone plan is only 30 and if I used Sipdroid for talk over data I could have unlimited talk too but I only get EDGE until T-Mobile refarms 1900 HSPA in Wichita but there are some good deals if you just look around.
