It's been a good ride, folks. - Nexus One General

I haven't been a big member here, but I've contributed here and there. I had a great run with the Nexus One; it's easily the best phone I've ever owned to date. However, it's time to move on up (feature-wise), so I traded it for a Samsung Vibrant. I'm expecting it to be more "locked down" and such, but after I got my Dad one for Christmas (in place of the Nexus S he really wanted; doesn't seem to care), I knew I had to have it.
Thanks for the awesome support and community!

Hope to see you round soon mate! And all the very best in life

Good luck with the Captivate, my friend has a Galaxy S i9000, and he loves it, so I'm sure you'll be fine!

I'm also thinking about leaving my Nexus as well, this battery life is seriously starting to get irritating. Trying to do anything to improve battery life becomes extremely repetitive really quickly..

Battery life concerns were easily fixed for me by getting a tiny spare for $5 and keeping it in your wallet / pocket.
I don't actually need it (N1 lasts all day and I'm a pretty heavy power user) but its nice to have the backup just in case

Why on earth would you get a Vibrant (complete with non-functional GPS) instead of a Nexus S?!

The screen and graphics processor are better, that's all.

The same or better than the nexus s?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

I'm thinking of doing the same then loading a custom rom on it. Really want front facing camera and s-amoled.
But not looking fwd to Nexus S prices when it hits Canada. Still want Gingerbread though, even in custom rom form.

With the Atrix [especially], Arc, Infuse and Inspire and the verge of being released, people are still going out and buying old sub-par Android devices? Makes no sense, if you waited this long, you could hold off for another couple of weeks.

Fixed (or should that be )

I like the Nexus S, but the lack of a SD card slot is a real deal-killer for me, even more so when you consider the fact that it's practically the same hardware as the other Galaxy S phones currently out. Gingerbread is nice, but not $500+ nice; plus, Wi-Fi calling doesn't work with it, which is a very useful feature for me.

I'd never go for Vibrant.
NS vs Vibrant
same screen
same CPU+GPU
NS has 16 GB of storage wich is more than enough I dunno what ppl have on their phones so that they need more storage...
NS has Ginger 2.3
NS is being adopted by custom firmware builders on a bigger scale than Vibrant specialy CyanogenMod 7
Wifi calling can be added in custom roms if you are on the right carrier ofcourse
probably more stuff but this comes to mind first.

I only upgrade when my phone (PC) stops doing what I want it to do.

UMA/GAN hasn't been ported over to Gingerbread yet and probably won't be for a while. (It still hasn't been issued to T-Mobile devices other than the myTouch4G and G2.) Until the compatible libraries start floating around (i.e. when both of those phones get an update, or when T-Mobile chooses a new phone to include it with), Gingerbread users are left in the cold here. (Unless you're idea of wifi calling is getting a different number and a Gizmo5 account, with some backend work to blend it with GVoice).

Welcome to the Vibrant world, but if your into hacking and such, I would of went with the SNS (nexus S) there is a lot more development going on over there I remember when the Vibrant had that much Development.

Samsung Vibrant old news already?

Ok so the Vibrant is not that old but seems like its forgotten already. Well the whole Galaxy S series! Bs since its only like 4 months old. Makes me mad that android devices get left behind so fast just to be replaced so quick. Not everyone can buy a new android device every week. I love my Vibrant but this crap makes me mad! Come on SLOW down with android devices already. Just my 2 cents! And no im not a fan boy. Just wanted to get this off my mind. Thanks a million!

you don't know much about the field and business of technology do you?
The second you buy any electronic device, it is obsolete before you even walk out of the store with it. It's something you have to accept if you make any electronics purchases.

Well as long as Samsung support the current Galaxy S line with updates I will be happy, if they don't, I know I won't be buying a Samsung phone again.
Even though they keep coming out with new phones doesn't mean yours isn't good. Root that baby, flash a rom and fall in love with your phone all over again.

cant wait for dual core smartphones with dedicated gpu.
4.5" screen
5+mp camera w/ flash and dedicated camera button
actual hard buttons
and of course ANDROID
And of course with the same 13-1500mAh batteries these has, so we'll have like 5000 threads about terrible battery life, etc.
Personally, I don't think there is anything great about the Vibrant outside of the screen. That was Samsung's main selling point. The GPU is good, but there are now apps popping up left and right that are claiming "No Support for Samsung Galaxy S."
Yahoo Messenger for Android now has no Support for Galaxy S, Lol.
Not going to bother buying another Samsung phone anyways, but certainly not going to buy another phone with internals outside of the mainstream.
I personally view them going in another direction IRT hardware has a massive failure. That's like buying a Windows Computer with an AMD Processor, and Microsoft telling you Live Messenger isn't supported on you computer because you got AMD instead of Intel, or Microsoft Office won't run on your computer because you're running Windows Vista instead of 7, or WoW won't run on your computer because you got an ATI instead of an NVidia. Massive failure, IMO.
Apps > Hardware.
Then there's the issue of a bunch of apps simply being incompatible due to the phone only having Android 2.1...
If you expect a Nexus S or whatever to change that, then I dunno what to say. 90% of high end smartphones run Snapdragons and most don't run TouchWiz, so developers will continue to target architectures which are the majority - as they should, cause targetting Samsung's phone and ending up with apps that crash and burn on all those other phones would be utterly retarded.

Got in the site... i figured it out and didn't have to watch that whole video lol
Please tell me your not mad that technology is advancing. Really? Is it such a bad thing? Nobody is forcing you to go out and buy the newest, fastest and greatest device. Personally I think while the vibrant may lack in 2.2 and some other things like flash and a 4.3" screen or HSPA+ it more than makes up for in MONSTER graphics computing, overall speed, a beautiful 4" SAMOLED screen and a camera that takes pretty amazing pics. I did expect better support from samsung considering the phone is across all carriers However I did buy the phone as is so I cant complain too much. it still holds its own against any other device out right now. Plus... The Nexus 2 will basically be a Galaxy S so we should see easy porting to our devices once gingerbread is released and android 3.0.
Hopefully we'll see some advanced implimentation of battery technology to make these handsets last a while with usage. Cause I don't want to see another ZOMG! I got 47 hours of battery.... with everything off.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Thing about it is, I thought about this too.. What is out that your phone can't do? It can run all the latest apps, and will even be able to support gingerbread. You could have a 5ghz phone, but what good will it do? The 1/4 second that it would be quicker would not be noticeable.
Galaxy S. Maybe the next version will include the P, so it will have a GPS~
Slow down??? Hell no! Speed up with new devices already. And the Vibrant is just fine. I use it, it has an awesome screen, and new updates get uploaded on XDA almost on a daily basis. And I love watching new phones appear. It just means that by the time I get around to another upgrade in about 14 months, the phones at that time will be that much better. So keep innovating, companies, and improving and releasing new phones.

What exactly are you talking about. No one is complaining about technology advancing. People are complaining mostly (and mostly indirectly) about the rate at which hardware/devices are deprecated and forgotten about.
Lots of people come from a long background in using computers, so they are not used to seeing a 1 year old device become "unsupported" for the most part.

Yes, those threads piss me off so much I don't even open battery threads anymore unless it's one I posted in and there's a chance a reply may be directed at me.
Most people with great battery life hardly use the phone. I get 20 hours easy when it sits there in Standby for 18.5 of those hours. Once I start using the phone, the battery is crap. I actually had to uninstall some very useful applications so the battery wouldn't commit suicide.

Yep. Actually noticed the G2 add play 3x tonight. The hinge is crap, but at least the phone works as expected.
A phone doesn't have to be "really that good" to be worth the investment. In many cases, like the Vibrant, when the phone is supposed to be "really that good" it just turns out to be a failed result of overreaching.
I got this phone because it had a lot of storage in it, and it's not like T-Mobile had that many choices when it came to high end smartphones when the Vibrant was released. Some people replying to posts act like the G2, MyTouch4G, HD7, etc. were being sold in stores in July/August.
There was the HD2, and the Vibrant. That's it. The rest of T-Mobile's phones were utter crap.

Buying a phone on a 2 year contract and finding out that the phone isn't even properly supported for 4 months should be enough to piss anyone off.

Quick Goodbye

Hey guys, just wanted to make this little post, as it will probably be my last on this forum.
Yesterday I traded my Vibrant for a Nexus One...
I just want to use this post to say goodbye to the Vibrant community. Since I no longer have a Vibrant, I won't be coming to this forum too often.
The phone was fantastic, and I really did love it. It performed flawlessly, and it was a true beauty. I just moved to the N1 because of the dev that's out there for it and the nice build of the phone. I wish I could have both.
I want to tip my hat off to all the developers that there are the this phone.
Eugene, Master, and Team Whiskey (that I can recall) really brought this phone to life, along with everybody else that contributes to this community.
Thank you all so much for being the ****ing brilliant group that you are, and hope to see you around elsewhere.

The development for the N1 is unmatched and is guaranteed to get gingerbread.

That's the only thing that the Vibrant has over the N1. The screen is one of the best. The N1 is a better trade because of all the google support and rom support for the devs. It is, if not one of the most sought after Android phones out mainly because of the software support. I highly advise this trade.

I hope you'll grace us with at least one more post. After you've had the new phone for a week or so, I'd love to hear your impressions and a comparison to the Vibrant.
I too like the Nexus, but I'd never consider that trade. Doesn't the Vibrant have a superior cpu and gpu? I realize the Nexus is a great phone with loads of development, but unless the hardware is equivalent, I couldn't justify the trade-off of developement for lack of hardware.
The Vibrant may not be top priority for any future software updates, but the hardware is good enough to have nearly anything in the next 6 months ported to it.

The N1 is actually quite a step down in terms of hardware but it has some really great ROMs out for it. I don't know if it will be the first to get Gingerbread but I am sure it won't be the last.
I wouldn't have done that trade either. Especially since the Vibrant now has an official build of Froyo that runs really good.
There are reports on engadget that n1 is already running 2.3
There are no errors, those are omissions
I just picked up a nexus one on Cl myself. I know on paper the vibrant is better, but honestly that's not translating in terms of user experience.
Now I know that many of the Galaxy S issues are due to lame software, and some day the user community might work many of them out, but I just got tired of waiting. The N1 running CM actually feels faster and more responsive than the vibrant in many situations (though when the gpu matters, the vibrant has a clear edge).
That last straw for me though was the idiotic GPS fix app that only reset agps settings. I need a device with a good GPS, and Samsung just couldn't deliver.
I'm going to hold onto the Vibrant for now as a backup, though. It's a great device despite its issues, and hopefully it will keep getting better. If the GPS worked properly, I could honestly have ignored everything else.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I like my N1 also but the screen sucks after you get used to the Vibrant. I have 0 issues with my GPS. It actually locks faster and to more satellites than either my N1, G1 or TAB. Also it is way more accurate than either the G1 or N1 with the compass enabled.
You ever consider swapping the Vibrant under warranty? Because it seems the people who are having GPS issues with this phone still are few and far between so maybe there is something wrong with your hardware. I know several other people have reporting their GPS problems going away after swapping it out which further reinforces my thought that it is faulty hardware.
Samsung keeps up with these boards and they knew that a lot of people were tweaking their phones trying to get their GPS to work better and after they released the update that fixed GPS the customizations people made got in the way. So they made a little utility to return the settings to stock. The app wasn't aimed at everyone but rather the few who had messed with their settings. I just left mine alone and lived with it until the update fixed it so I have no use for the utility but if you were in there making changes then you are exactly the person they made that for.
It also has a function that tests the GPS hardware so if you haven't ran it yet give it a try. If it still doesn't work then have it replaced under warranty. You could be rocking GPS awesomeness on that Vibrant.
i would like to try a nexus one because it's always the first one to be updated. But i love my super duper amoled screen.

The hardware in the phone matter less than the performance of the software on that hardware.
When did people get so obsessed with "hardware and benchmarks?"
Someone here (like physically around my area) wants to trade a mint N1 to me but I'm holding off. I want to go to an N8 or WP7 device instead.
But I do think my opinion of Android as a platform would probably be different if I had used a stock phone with Google support, even if stock if rather ugly.

Why spend money on a 6-8 month old technology if a better one (dual-core, better resolution screen, overall battery life, etc) is around the corner??
I currently own both. Old reliable N1 is just that though it does have a few things it beats the Vib at. The GPS is much better on the N1, it has LED flash (I never realize how convenient til I need it), and the trackball on the N1 though is susceptible to damage is nice even if only for notifications. Everything else on the Vib is better. The screen is far more accurate and just plain beautiful. That alone keeps me from using my N1 as a daily.

I'm waiting on the Nexus S. When that comes out, I might be tempted to swap my Vibrant out for that. It'll likely already have Gingerbread on it too. Until then, there's currently nothing available on T-Mobile that I like better. Software can improved / updated with little to no cost involved but hardware typically can't. Whatever works for you, though.
have fun with the downgrade

Google better not abandon or neglect N1 for this NS

Google better not leave us Nexus One owners out to dry for this Nexus S. Im talking about being the first to get updates like Gingerbread and Honeycomb (at least up to Honeycomb).
I still love my Nexus One and don't see any overwhelming reason to change to the Nexus S. Especially since HTC has been SO good to me.
Who's with me? Any of you thinking about jumping ship? Why?

I'll stick with the Nexus One because it's still great and will get the latest updates.
And I agree with the guy above.

lol, don't kid yourself, Google abandoned the N1 3 months after it came out. The N1 is getting shafted. Thanks Google.
If Google F's us over we still got the Dev. and XDA to save the day.
I don't see them leaving us in the dark.
As for getting the new one. At this point, nope. Not enough there to justify the $529. More memory, but no expansion?? 2nd Camera that I would never use. The Gyroscope. Eh.
Really the only thing there is Android 2.3. It will come out eventually for the N1. Even if not right away I will wait for it. I might try it when it comes time to upgrade the latest Desire Port but I have been happy with Sense UI and want to keep that in the long term so no big deal.

I would like to definitely try it. The only thing that kinda bothers me is the built in memory, but then again I have 8GB on the nexus one and I don't really feel the need to upgrade to anything more yet. If I switch to the nS is because of the front camera and (hopefully) a better digitizer, I hate the half baked one of the n1.
Me too...still love my nexus one even can not afford google maps 5.0 on gingerbread...
i doubt google will leave the nexus one behind, especially since the N1 and NS are very similiar in hardware, the NS is supior in power, but not enough to make it get updates the N1 won't
Also google has already said the N1 will be getting gingerbread in a few weeks, and i'm sure both phones will be getting honeycomb when it eventually comes out.

Let me paraphrase that for you.
I have a Nexus One, a year old phone, that is being surpassed by superior hardware on a slew of devices. Google better continue specializing their production of Android based on my year old device, those bastards. If they move forward and advance phone tech and its corresponding software I'm gonna be pissed!

Joking aside ; even if Google does abandon us, as you say, it's certainly not the end for the Nexus One. Look at the G1 running Froyo for crying out loud. There are a lot of N1's floating around out there, and the demographic of its users are almost all tech heads like ourselves - A LOT of whom are even developers/programmers.
Don't concern yourself with the matter, if your phone does what you need it to and you like it... keep it. If you need to be first in line for updates directly from Google for the next year, I would suspect the NS would be the way to go.
Personally, I'm hanging on to my N1 until there are some respectable multi-core phones on the market. When that day finally comes I intend on having my Nexus framed; this has been the best phone I've owned and I don't think I could find it in myself to sell it.

That N1 has never gotten shafted, seriously. Give an example. The reality is that 11 months after its release we are still at the head of the line for OS updates. What is it with the ridiculous persecution complex among some N1 owners??
We should as a community make sure that google doesn't leave us.
we must remind them that as we were loyal to them, and they'd better not do an apple thing and ditch us.
Our phone's still more than capable compared to any other phone out there....

This alone should be enough to console the worried. A 2 year old phone, with incredibly outdated hardware, is still getting major support from developers -- if even Google abandons us.. hopefully there is one place that won't.

I dont get why anyone gets so defensive about a phone, whatever it may be. Choose the phone which does what YOU want it to do, what it does NOW, not what it may or may not do in the future. Then, when you've made the choice, don't try and tell everyone else what they should or shouldn't choose.
As for the NS, looks nice enough, but I wont buy one for 2 reasons. First I've just bought an iphone 4 and second I'm reluctant to buy anything from samsung - I've had very little luck with their products - not just phones, and its always been a frustrating ownership experience - and worse - when its time to sell on, the resale value is terrible.

Google owes you nothing. The N1 was primarily a reference dev device for Eclair/Froyo. The NS is the new reference dev device for Gingerbread/2.4.

Just wondering besides the screen and gingerbread what makes this phone better than the mytouch. Just curious as to why so many people want this phone when the mytouch is better in almost evey way. Please no flaming this is a real question as to why people would want this phone instead of a ohone that's already out that's equal if not better.

Pure Google.
I want my updates in a timely manner, not when tmo/htc/samsung/moto/bob from down the street want to give them out.
sold my i9000 to buy this phone because of pure android! in my opinion hardware doesn't mean anything when your software is bad like it was on my i9000. google will always aim for a good running android on their phones!

- Pure Google (stock android)
- All soft keys ( I hate the mytouch keys)
- Google's actual developer phone
- Nexus sounds better than MyTouch
Direct updates and fast updates.
No need to root it to remove unnecessary softwares since it comes with none.
More UMTS bands supported, almost it will work on 3G in the globe, forget about ATT but it supports 2100 and 900. This is a personal reason since I won't use it in the US.
MT4g keys collected so much dust in just few days of using, I think soft keys are more durable when you take this into account.
As others said, it comes down to vanilla Android - my nexus one was one of my favorite phones because it was pure android. When I got the evo and vibrant I kinda twitched when I wasn't on vanilla android (it really is a very different experience).
Not to mention, the vibrant still being on 2.1 is a JOKE (altho I've flashed froyo) - so with the nexus S, having the latest updates and essentially being Google's "test device" is excellent.
Because the MyTouch 4g has a worse processor, a worse GPU, a worse display, a worse touch screen, and well, is ugly. Oh and the Nexus S is AOSP.
Note: "ugly" = personal preference no offense intended
It's rather difficult for me to say.
I have MT4 and the screen is good, plus wifi calling is very handy when I need it.
But NS should have larger and better screen.

I've seen a lot of posts anderdroid. You seem to be some sort of arrogant samsung fanboy. All I hear from you is samsung is the best and all other devices are crap...
Do you happen to work for samsung by any chance?
No offence intended.

Chill out guys... It's phones, phones, phones, phones. No need to get all heated.
Echoing what others have said, but its true. A lot comes down to getting timely updates direct from Google.
I had a Hero before my Nexus One and although the phone was solid, the lack of updates made it a very disappointing experience. Won't do ' non-vanilla' again until manufacturers/carriers prove they will update their phones.
I have a MT4G and a Vibrant and hopefully will pick up a Nexus S tomorrow morning. The MT4g is a very nice solid phone. Having said that I must say I do prefer the Vibrant. I really cannot put my finger on why I like the Vibrant so much better.. I fooled around with the MT4G and let the remorse period end and now I have the phone. I am going to sell the MT4G. Once again though it is a very very good phone. One of the best all around phones I have ever had. Just cannot forge a connection with it.
myTouch 4G is THE phone!! if u have 4G in ur area. Brilliant specs. But I agree its ugliest looking phone ever. But as long u cover it its fine and excellent phone. I wouldnt go for Nexus S if I already had myTouch 4G. Dual Cores are round the corner. But I m fine with the specs of the Nexus S. No 4g here anyways.
PS: Nexus S is gonna be my first native android phone. Woohoo
But I have toyed around most of the android phones of either friends and family

dude, I had the same exact experience.
Ok, still tossing between the two devices. Biggest reason is the $300 price difference. Both have nice features.
Nexus S:
Love that it will get updates in a timely manner
slimmer, sexier
better screen
No 3g so with this and better screen hopefully better battery life
Larger screen
MT4G:
4G
More hardware buttons
Micro SD card slot, (options)
T-Mobile insurance to cover any time of damage
I've only used the Nexus S for a day so I'm still going to compare and see if its worth paying more for it. Any other key reasons I'm missing? Just trying to get as much information/feedback before making a decision.
If you want the best and latest, nexus S is the one...but to me also It doesn't give out anything significant over MT4G..Yes faster updates is definitely one plus of Nexus...but if you're on XDA, you most probably be into custom ROMs, and mostly within a week new updates come to popular phones..so that's not such a big thing...same goes for pure google exp...if you don't want custom UI...there are ROMs available to do that..
On the other hand MT4G gives you 4G, WiFi calling and looks are subjective..to me MT4G don't look bad though not as sexy as nexus S though...but as above poster said its $300 more...its not definately worth that IMO

How did you come up with this number? Compare the unlocked prices,
MT4G (contract free and locked) is 449 , NS unlocked and contract free is 529.

Arrogant Samsung fanboy? Everything I said in my reply was true the only thing the MyTouch 4g has on this is removeable storage and HSPA+. Which are 'necessities' at best. If you absolutely need removeable storage or more than 16gb than the Nexus S isn't for you. Other than that, I get the feeling that HTC fanboys down talk Samsung wrongly and uneducatedly so I like to shove it in their faces .
I guess I am an arrogant Samsung fanboy. Or at least, Galaxy S> fanboy. Anything prior to Galaxy S I won't say anything about. The Galaxy S line is 2nd best only to the Nexus S

What better than samsung vibrant?

Hey.
I am thinking of getting android phone, and samsung vibrant is on my list, but I want to know what is better than vibrant at the moment?
Any other andriod phones better than vibrant at the moment that has good features?
I cannot afford Nexus S at the moment as its very expensive without any contract.
Thanks.
You may find other phones that people claim is faster, such as g2 or mytouch 4g or something...but I have yet to see another android phone with the amazing gpu performance of the vibrant..plus, with a few tweaks, this phone is faster than lightning...
But to be fair, Samsung support for the phone isn't all the best. Don't expect timely updates and such. However, our dev community here is awesome and with it, you probably wont miss support from Samsung...

Vibrant and Nexus S are bascily the same, a bit different.
umm... i really can't think of any other phone. Vibrant has filled my needs, but if you plan NOT to put a custom rom on it, or Root it... then... dont get the vibrant, samsung has quit on us, and the devs are the only reason this section is alive.
I dont know how to root or what roms are, etc, but I was waiting for 2.2 I heard it had good features.
So but now that 2.2 is not coming out are there any roms that can fill that gap?

YES.
If your looking for a 2.2, there are some awesome ROMS.
Nero, Ginger Clone, and Axura are the most popular currently.
They DO have a FEW bugs, but they're pretty small ones.
there has been a LEAKED froyo(2.2) rom, if you want a stock one, there is one.
I think you'd love a Vibrant. Before you get irritated, when you buy it, open it right there, and in front of the guy who sold it to you check if the GPS works, some new ones still don't work, and if it doesn't ask for another, and another if you have to, but be sure to make the GPS work wether you use GPS or not, you'll get annoyed later.
Also, if you don't know how to root or flash custom ROMs, there are PLENTY of EASY STEP-by-STEP tutorials to do it.
Just get the nexus S if you don't want to root. Bad side of it is it doesn't have a external storage.

Yup no ext SD was a definite deal breaker for me. Other then that it's a very nice phone.
The mt4g is a great phone for the casual person. But i wouldnt trade my vibrant for it, Im gonna wait for the fabled galaxy s2.
Fear the beard...
I actually went ahead and pulled the trigger on getting a Nexus S today. I love my Vibrant and I'm keeping it as I've had loads of fun with it because of all the community support. Macnut R14 was and is still my rom of choice with the phone and it's very smooth and not that buggy at all - and my GPS works.
Having said that, the reason I got the NS is due to direct Google support. Considering Gingerbread is out now and Samsung has yet to deliver Froyo to 3 of the 4 GS models stateside, I finally made the decision to drive something I know is going to get timely updates. If you're not going to root get the Nexus the trade offs make it about even. If you are going to root then the Vibrant could a strong choice considering what it has over the NS. I know I'll still be here flashing roms for my Vibrant even though I have a different phone to play on now.
If I didn't mind being on Sprint, I'd say the Sprint HTC EVO is better in some respects than the Vibrant. No other phones come to mind. I also still consider the Vibrant to be the best Android powered phone on T-Mobile ATM. FYI, I don't like phones with built-in physical keyboards so I tend to immediately rule those out. The lack of both the SD card slot and gorilla glass on the screen are deal killers for me on the Nexus S when comparing it to the Vibrant. The Nexus S offers nothing I want which I don't already have (EXT4 file system) or won't get in the future (Gingerbread). Timely updates aren't worth it to me.

Maybe a job would help.
If you can, wait it out a few more months. There are indications that the LG Optimus phone is coming to T-Mobile in early March.

For the price of the Vibrants right now this is the best bang for your buck stock or not. Fast processor, very customizable, 14gig storage STOCK with an external slot to increase that to only the limits of microSD cards.
My opinion is the casual user will not notice a difference in 2.1 2.2 or 2.3 aside from some cosmetics which can be imitated by many free market apps. Casual user.....
For the non casual user I will reiterate what my fellow enthusiast have already pointed out. We are blessed with some REALLY talented ROM developers that have been nothing but generous with their time and efforts.
I have never gone to a manufacturer for support on any phone I have owned. Majority of the time the communities solve the problem 1000x faster.
I would also like to point out I am not biased to this phone because I own it lol, it just happens to be the one I own currently. I for one LOVE my Vibrant. I have had a g1, my touch, every iphone and some in between.
I have only used two other android phones: the Mytouch 4G and the G2. Both are hands down a much better user/android experience than the Vibrant i now own.
The only thing that makes me think about keeping the vibrant over these other phones is that the vibrant kicks their asses when it comes to audio playback, the quality is noticeably better.
Appart from that, battery life on the vibrant is lame, the screen is big but the colors are off, withes are actually blueish. The stock software is horrible, touchwiz is a joke, seriously, so is the fact that this thing still runs 2.1.
For the more that people talk about the speed of this phone, i found it to be incredibly laggy and slow, from apps to file transfers.
Ironically the best thing about the vibrant is that it made me use my phone a lot less than the Mt4G or the G2. The G2 made me a very anti-social person.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
vibrant or nexus S
Currently have the iphone 4 from a trade I did with my nexus one. Going back to android! Stuck on which to choose the nexus S or the vibrant. Seems as if both phones are pretty much the same. Save a few hundred with the vibrant or go with the S
Thanks for all the answers, I got the Vibrant!!!!
Now, when it arrives, then need to do some reading on roms, flash, root, etc as I dont know anything about them....
To get full flash in browser, and to get GPS to work fully (if it does not work, hopefully it will) what ROM is the best to flash? And by flashing that rom, will I lose any of the stock rom features?
Because my vibrant will have stock 2.1

I said the same thing to the T-Mobile Reps. a couple months ago The phone has actually changed the way I use smartphones. Before I was always tethered to my smartphone, now I have to make sure I don't forget to pick it up when I go or leave some place. I don't really use it that much. It's just not fun. I tend to carry my notebook with me, now, and of course my ZuneHD
I think my next phone will almost certainly have a full QWERTY slide-out. Swipes way of automatically adding typos to the dictionary is annoying. I spent like an hour last night just removing typos that kept registering as words when trying to send texts and stuff.
My thought is that the Vibrant is the best media device on the market right now. Great codec support, best screen, excellent storage.
I've considered buying the Nexus S to use as a phone and to keep the Vibrant like it's an iPod Touch, just a movie/music/game device.
