Phone upgrades.

I'm one for technical innovation, don't get me wrong. I'm loving all the new tech that comes out. The atrix 4g basically wet my panties with its specs.
BUT. I hate how youhave top of the line equipment one day, then 6 months later it is completely outclassed.
Imagine if the video game systems did this?
The gamecube/xbox cam out in 2001
The 360 came out in 2005
The wii in 06
The ps2 is STILL kicken, but its original life was from 2000-2006
And the 360 and ps3 are here for a while to come. That much is clear. Why? Because the hardware is still underutilized!
Yeah, there were remakes, but nothing was remade to the poin where you were just "I HAVE TO UPGRADE."

Also, when there is a remake of a system, its usually a LOT cheaper, mostl because the cost of the tech drops. Look at the xbox 360 kinect.
Its like thedifferencebetween the galaxy s and nexus s, yet its CHEAPER!
Now look what else samsung is doing
Our Vibrant Brethren got fluffed big time. T-mo is getting a "Vibrant 4g" which is the vibrant with the original galaxy s specs (same thing but with hspa+ and ffc) and....RUNNING TW FROYO!!!!!!
Samsung is the company I wouldn't wanna follow. I've always loved samsungs hardware. Its always top of the line. But I've never had a samsung phone before this one, and I'm pretty sure this is gonna be my last -_- I thought all the stories about samsungs horrible track record regarding updates was a bunch of hoopla becaue my hero was updated regularly. My thought was "lol if htc is pushing these updates out, imagine samsungs speed!"
Boy was I wrong.
If it wasn't for the android dev community, samsungs android phones would've been dead a long time ago. They should realize this.

Intersting observation and comparison. I think the difference is that it takes so much development to introduce a new system that the entire process is excessively costly. From my understanding, each manufacturer (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) loses money on each system sold because the costs are so high. They recoup the costs in peripherals and software development (getting game devlopers onboard to make games for their systems). Phone manufacturers make their money on the front end (phone sales) so they have every incentive to continue pushing out as many new phones as possible to cover every segment of the available phone market.
Different ideas at play.

Lol sony really hates having open software. If they REALLY go through the effort of designing a Whole new system JUST to do what htc thought they did with the g2, then the video game world as we know it will clearly be gone.
They sould just pull a nintendo. "Hey, If you manage to hack it, whatevs. But ifyou accidentally update and we brick it, don't get mad boo "

Lol what gets me is that they complain about the ps3 being hacked what about when the playstayion phone comes out on android? Back to Samsung/Sprint for a hot second though. If samsung can release Froyo on all these other carriers worldwide with the TW interface what's truly stopping them from a US release? Is it the fact that if its ready for one carrier and not the others the others ***** threatening to drop samsung support for there customers? That's my opinion on the subject. If and when Froyo is released it will be on all carriers at the same time

Yeah they're probably gonna go the moto route and put a blocked bootloader and then drop all support if you root it lol.
But yeah bck to sammy/sprint, I though about that. Until the nexus s came out with gingerbread on tmo.
Same hardware, latest software. So its clearly possible to put the latest software in.
What if its google?
I mean...so far only the nexus s has gingerread, but all the phones at ces blow the pants off the NS and NONE of them were running gingerbread (cept the arc I guess).
I just wish that they would embrace the O in AOSP.

Very true it could very well be google to promote their "Flagship Device" oddly enough made by Samsung. Which is only available at Best Buy I believe still and not through T-Moblie Corporate (why I don't know). The only reason I don't think that it is Google is the fact that Google has promoted the "O" in AOSP to the fullest if they didn't we wouldn't be on this site with this discussion. Sammy could have struck a deal worth millions with Google to have their device pushed through so quickly. I still have yet to play with one. From what I have heard it's not very sturdy. That's from friends and acquaintances at Best Buy. They recommend the Vibrant over that thing if T-Mobile is your thing.

There is also the issue of phone contracts. So they are not catering to the same exact customers. For example, I am out of the market because I recently purchased the Epic. But, there are other people whose contracts are just ending or will be ending soon. So they constantly need the next new thing out there to entice those folks into paying customers. Video game hardware is different because there are new video games (as opposed to new phones). The games developers make better games over time by learning the hardware. While phone manufacters make better (usually) phones over time.

And some games have better resale value than others. Imagine if Game Stop was called Phone Stop and you could trade your old phone in for half the price you paid for it and buy a new one. I think I just had an epiphany lol. That settles it. Who's in with me to start this company lol. We just need $50,000 to start. I take pay-pal too lol

It may not compare to console gaming, but look at PC gaming which gets "outdated" faster than phones. Sure <insert game> will run marginally better on a high end gaming PC built today compared to 6 months ago, but the same game will play just fine on that 6 month old system.
I bought this phone in particular to future proof myself. The hardware on this thing should be more than efficient enough to handle anything thrown at it software wise until my contract is up for another upgrade.

Yeah I will give Sammy that. The Hardware is absolutely unbelievable. I just get angry with all the software upgrades going around to other phones and not the Samsung "Flagship" (other than the Nexus S) device. I mean come on the Intercept has 2.2.

After The Vibrant What is Next??? The next phone debate!!

We can all agree that the Samsung Vibrant/Galaxy S is a really good phone and a really great phone when running a custom rom. My question is what is next for you guy, as far as phones goes. What new upcoming phone will you guys get in the near future?
So far number one on my list of my next phones is the LG Optimus 2x, but is that can when Galaxy S 2 and the rumored LG 3D phone is announces. Most likely I will go with the Galaxy S 2. Why you ask? 1. TOUCHWIZ, I think Touchwiz is the best thing that every happen to a smartphone. 2. Odin, Odin practically made the Vibrant unbreakable. 3. Super Amoled Display, I can never look at another screen the same again after seeing super amoled, plus the Galaxy S 2 is said to have Super Amoled Plus Display sigh crazy!!!

I too am leaning toward the LG Optimus 2X but would opt for the Galaxy S 2 if it was coming out in the next couple of months. Have not heard nor read any real timeline for the Galaxy S 2. I also really like Twiz. I have had some hard feelings toward Samsung but I also like Odin and how it makes the phone much easier(or more comfortable) to mess with. I had pretty much decided to never purchase Samsung again but upon looking at the overall picture I feel it is the best decision for me at this time. I had a MT4G and even though I got it rooted and flashed a nice rom I never really felt comfortable playing with it. Sent it back.. Nice phone though.

LG Optimus 2X is mine, I am simply waiting on it right now. But I will NOT buy any phone that does not have the operating system I want and wait for it to come out. If the Optimus 2X does not come with gingerbread, no dice. That way I can flash some cool custom roms just for fun not cos I need the new OS
Seems like I made the right decision to not but the Galaxy Tab, will be getting the G-Slate to go along with it the Optimus2X, scary crap but I am going to be an LG guy (minus the TV)
Edit, after much thought and playing around with phones, watching youtube videos of different phones etc etc, I have decided I will stick to Google phones, ie Nexus line of phones. I really do not need much more than the 16gig it comes with, I hardly use the bluetooth anyway, and it is still faster than the current flock of dual core phones out there now...yep nexus S is my next phone. Even the Nexus one is beating phones that are a year newer at performing basic tasks fast and efficiently

And Samsung is the closest to what I like on a phone. Customizable, ease of use, and their hardware configuration is so simple and very nice.

As much as I am a believer in budget is relative, buy it if you can afford it, I still don't see why anyone buys a phone cause its the "next big thing". Hype and marketing will always tug at the trendy or the ppl who are "in the know" harder then reality or common sense.
Examples span from the the galaxy s Series being released, the G1 being the iphone killer, and more recently the X2 being short of expectations per the review just put out by engadget. Now I'm not saying that the following examples didn't take a turn for the better, if not the best, but electronics and the future is almost an oxymoron. You usually are never using the final product, but more like beta testing for the next best thing. It's an endless trap of gratification vs. $/phone.
As I was one who has gone through the ranks of the G1 and a vibrant, and I Love my vibrant, but Ill still just wait till xxx phone comes out late this year and get it for free on a full upgrade after its been out for 6 months and has tons of roms and the kinks rubbed out of it, lol.

I'm going to stick to vibrant and wait for multiple dual cores to come out. Then hit the Craig when the price is lowest :b dun really wanna switch again... went through so many phones in last 4 -5months.
Samsung highlight/ iPhone 3gs/ Samsung vibrant / HTC g2/ nexus one / mytouch 4g/ and back to vibrant again.. should have never abandoned the vibrant in the first place lol.

Sounds like you need a Nokia N8.
But i think im most likely gonna go with the Optimus 2x. That Dual-Core processor sounds promising.

From what i have heard, performance increase is not that much with any phone that is not running honeycomb or higher. The OS can only utilize one core, so the main reason anyone would want to get the lg optimus should be for gaming, and lets face it, android games aren't that hw demanding or nice !!

LOL, N8 is niiiccceee, especially it comes with Nokia Qt SDK for Devs, lolol... tempting.
Anyway, that's what i'm waiting for, a dual core, and simplicity.

Funny, I can afford to buy any phone anytime, that said i love this phone and am waiting for the same reason ndwgs said. Dual Core, my next buy will probably be the xoom tablet... then the Dual core, S2 or maybe Atris..... not sure

Meh, as unhappy as I've been with the small amounts of great ROMS, and lack of Sense so far, I'm keeping this phone. Over the lasy year I've gone through six phones. Moto Cliq-myTouch-Blackberry Bold-iPhone 3G-myTouch-Vibrant. I was never truly happy with a device until this one. So I'll be waiting quite a qhile before getting a new one.

Either the Glaxy S2 or the HTC Pyramid. I can't wait for MWC to start

I will never buy a samsung phone again, but I heard that the nokia e7 is shipping now and the keyboard on that thing is gorgeous, not to mention the camera with dual led flash. If I were to buy a phone today it would be that one. I'd probably go through some minor flashing withdraw but I'd get over it.

To the op try using this rom im using now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935799 its a suped up version of touchwiz ^^
and on the topic i would skip the lg 2x and prolly get the galaxy s2 for my next upgrade, mostly because i dont want a smaller screen. Hopefully by then they will solve the whole timely update problems, which they said recently while releasing the "official 2.2" <-(piece of sh*t btw) that they will work harder to provide updates on a timely matter.

Heh, I'm going to wait until the second wave of dual-core phones come out, probably by this holiday season. Why? They'll be more mature and ship with 2.4 stock, which is what you'll need to actually take advantage of those dual cores. And by then we'll know which chipsets have the best performance and battery life (Tegra 2 isn't all that impressive just yet).

Yea I tried that rom. I realtor like it but what I did is I pulled out the theme, widgets and touchwiz and put then on top of kb1.

True. I got a dinosaur phone and my vibrant. Nokia 6630 International Version and my Nex One.
Both i still use, beside my playtime/funtime/tester phone: the vibrant.
Speaking of which, when are you coming up with your Rom, Sader?

[Q] Why is Samsung so bad vs. HTC?

OK I had the Hero, and the Google phones by HTC on other carriers all had the same problem whether on 1.5 or 1.6 they all wanted 2.0+, most were very delayed, some other companies, Motorolla, have botched updates as well.
That being said, I came from the Hero where I liked HTC, didn't like not having a keyboard on that phone sometimes. I find that Samsung seems to be about equal from my perspective, I am wondering why so many people here make them out to be the devil and make HTC sound wonderful. Do you really think they don't ever mess up updates there and all their phones are better? I'm sorta lost on that point, vs. almost any other Android company. As far as I'm concerned, having a friend who had the G3? on T-Mo then I got the Hero soon after, I have found Google to be the delay...that or every company does it...
Am I wrong somehow?

Android users will *****, moan and complain until their faces are blue. Google has trained us to expect software updates immediately since they release them so rapidly. And if the Android userbase doesnt have the latest and greatest on our phones within even a month of Google releasing the source code...they blow thru the roof.
I had the Hero as well...and I recall being on 1.5 and everyone *****ing about when we would get 2.0. HTC got brownie points because they got EVO users 2.2 so quickly while Epic owners sat in the corner and watched the cool kids move their apps to their SD card.
We will be getting 2.2 on Monday...and then we will want 2.3. Its a process that will never end...
And the end of the day...Android users are the biggest pains in the a double s's ever. They cry, complain and moan and the sense of entitlement they possess is ridiculous. Software updates take time to format for different phones running different systems. Patience doesnt exist though. Thanks to Google...

Ditto. I could give a crap about froyo at this point. If it doesn't fix all the bugs and battery problems, who cares. Airplane mode toggle, GPS, exchange connection problems and battery drainage, and DRM batter drainage are my biggest complaints. To be honest with you I would be happy if they fixed those things, cause it's a pain to have to deal with all of that. There's no reason why you should have to do all this tweeking to get your phone to work semi decent!

OP, this is true. If I switch it will be for greatly increased dev support.
I'm reluctant only because I will really miss the camera. I bought the phone for the keyboard but it has proven itself fairly worthless compared to the blackberry keyboards I'm used to.

I'm nowhere near the most hungry person for this new OS version (seriously, it's JUST SOFTWARE) but I have to admit it just doesn't make sense that a company worth possibly hundreds of billions of dollars can't update their "flagship" phones faster than this.
Yes, we all know Sprint figures into the equation somehow, but they sure managed to get Froyo onto the Evo quickly, didn't they? You can't tell me HTC, which is a far smaller and less influential company than Samsung, had less technical hurdles to overcome. (Well, you can, but I wouldn't believe you.)
Now Samsung and Sprint may be more conservative for the Epic's care, but their lack of transparency as to why is the issue here. It's largely about lack of communication. Sure, you can argue they don't owe us anything insider-y, but because we look at the technology as vital and spend so much money we want to feel taken care of and be assured our devices have value, and are valued. The phone should be better with this new version, but we probably shouldn't expect miracles either.
I just think Samsung, for all its admirable qualities, needs to really re-evaluate their product support. They've come a long way in mobile phones, and I bought the Epic because I liked the previous "dumb phones" they made well enough, but they also have a long way to go. With their smarts and innovation, I think they will be able to successfully reform. But they can't simply look at the immediate bottom line--competition in technology is too fierce now, reputations can get destroyed quickly, and companies which tarnish their brand can pay dearly for their errors. Just yesterday you had phone makers like Nokia and RIM high on the heap, and even Microsoft's Windows Mobile was once considered a potentially serious player--look at them now, struggling. It can happen to Samsung as well. But they can still make good, and maybe are finally turning the corner here in the U.S.

Most updates take a while for them to be released. There are always bugs that need to be fixed and the bugs are not usually easy to be fixed. The specs are slightly better on some other manufacturer phones, but the AMOLED screen keeps me sticking with Samsung. That and the fact that their charging ports don't have issues with falling off the mainboard like the Evo. It took thousands of complaints for HTC to come out with a reinforced charging port when they released the Evo Shift, but they still have not gone back and changed their manufacturing process of the regular Evo to incorporate the reinforced charging ports.
It is much easier to explain to a customer that damaged their ribbon cable when they dropped their phone with the slide open than it is to explain to a customer that their charging port is a common complaint, but since it damaged the solder joints and contacts beneath the port, they now have to pay $100 for their deductible or get a new phone if they didn't have ERP or TEP.

I really don't care what OS version im on as long as there's no bugs

My guess is that HTC makes better android software to beging with.
I owned 2 samsung phones(Behold2 and Epic) and one HTC phone(MyTouch Slide 3GS).
MyTouch with only 600mhz CPU,512 ram and no dedicated GPU ran android(with Sense overlay) so well that it was unbelivebale.

I bought MTS3gs at launch date with 2.1 on it and within 2 months they released 2.2 for it,keep in mind that MTS3gs was not a heavy hitter,all 4 networks,flagship phone like Galaxy S is.That makes me feel that HTC cares about their reputation not like Samsung.
While my Samsung phones are of better build quality I would go back to HTC in a heartbeat if they had Amoled screens,but after using Amoled on Behold2 and S Amoled on Epic I cant,lol.
And one last thing why I think HTC is better-They release their source quickly.Why do you think all Cyanogens,MIUI and best roms hit HTC so quickly?

Uh, lets review history a little bit.
HTC is the manufacturer of the Nexus 1, the first phone to get Froyo. They received froyo before the release of the Nexus 1 so that they could write drivers. SIX MONTHS LATER, the EVO4g comes along running a SLIGHTLY different first generation snapdragon SOC. In fact, the EVO has near identical hardware to the HTC Incredible which was released a full month before the EVO.
So HTC had PLENTY of time to begin developing drivers for the EVO.
You are saying that Samsung didn't have more technical hurdles to overcome creating drivers for the first devices to use their hummingbird processor and PowerVR SGX 540 gpu than HTC which built the reference platform for Froyo 2.2 through their Nexus One?
The Evo has also received multiple small patches from HTC because their Froyo update was obviously rushed by Sprint so that they could run all of those annoying "first" ads.
Also, take a look at some of the issues people have had with the Evo:

It has the same screen issues that my HTC TP2 had, which is the brightening in a small spot as an example.

HTC and Samsung are the same..the biggest difference is Sprint is Sprint released EVO as their June phone and wanted to be first to upgrade to 2.2 so they pushed HTC to upgrade faster...If you think about it they updated the international SGS at an ok time table (not the best but OK)..when it got to the carriers is when the issues started happening..

The MT3GS is using the 600mhz snapdragon processor is it not..that processor is pretty much an under-clocked EVO and GPU is the same..add to it the lower resolution and there is no reason why it shouldnt run smoothly..anyways on my Epic though when running 2.1 stock I had it smoothly no matter what I was doing :/

The mytouch series is T-mobile's brand...when your "branded" by the carriers you get more love...

?!??!?!?!??!?!??!?!?..we are talking about the same HTC right? for the record Samsung releases source same day or within a week usualy..HTC on the other hand still didnt release sources for many devices eve after people have been calling them for AGES to release them...
What makes HTC easier is many devs have worked with HTC phones for YEARS even before they had any protection on bootloaders or anything..we practically grew up with them..and with the N1 it contributed a lot as well..

See, I just don't believe any of that and ill tell you why; the myTouch 4g. That phone runs worse than my HERO did with stock software. And it does everything slow: pulling up the dialer, installing and loading apps, pulling up the market, everything. Its honestly probably one of the worst feeling phones I've ever used (that weren't running MotoBLUR... shutters) and even launcher pro couldn't salvage it.
The reason HTC is "better" than Samsung is just as TC said; people here have awfully selective memories. HTC is just as painfully slow at getting this done as everyone else, they just got paid a ton to get 2.2 (not even 2.2.1 which I believe it still doesn't even have) out for ONE phone and everyone just forgot. I can't wait for the Evo to take 9 years like every other phone to get gingerbread/ice cream sandwich so people can return to hating every company evenly.

True,Samsung has the best hardware,and Amoled keeps me buying from Sammy.But when Samsung got a flagship phone that is out on 6 major phone carriers in US alone,plus 3 more in Canada and probably 5-10 more in EU and they neglect to update them and put in a little Extra time when making the software for them-Thats bad business.

I can't claim to know about the intricacies of writing hardware device drivers, but even so, with all its resources it's tough to believe Samsung had so much trouble. But to keep perspective it's really mainly a U.S. problem. In other parts of the world they've had Froyo on Galaxy S for months. We have the differing builds and radios etc. they had to cope with. But enough devil's advocacy...my original incredulity is still in place about Samsung, if not Sprint. If the update lives up to at least most of our expectations, I guess it'll be bridge/water.

Now this is something we should ponder. Samsung has ALL of the drivers already written for a majority of what is needed to get us to Gingerbread. They released the Nexus S which is the flagship gingerbread phone, and simply has to port over and update our 4g and cdma drivers basically. We should absolutely see Gingerbread in a very quick fashion, IF that is, Samsung is deciding to support this phone as they should.

They haven't abandoned the 3g..it works by 2 years cycles..so 2g has been abandoned but 3g has not until the iphone 5...
That said it doesn't mean samsung has gave up on us completely..for all you know we may go up all the way to honeycomb and beyond...they just have been rather slow at it :/

Sure, that sounds sensible except I might beg the question...why then not take us right to Gingerbread? ;-) Coincidentally I was at a Best Buy tonight and played with a Nexus S. It really is weird how it's so similar to the phone I'm typing this on right now, but Google's sponsorship of it changes so much on the software side...

Not Quite the Experience I Had Hoped For...

I posted this in response to another forum post, but I wanted to get other people's opinions, as well:
Unfortunately, I am returning my Atrix tonight as well - day 27 of purchase. This is my first Android phone but I feel like I'm missing out on some of the best aspects of the XDA community and features of Android, in general. I like the Atrix, but not enough to keep it for two years on contract with most likely very meager updating by Motorola in the future. I also have some gripes about the hardware.
I consider this my introductory Android experience and absolutely love the OS. I love it so much, that I want to be able to experience more of it!
Since I sold my iPhone 4 (for a nice profit!), I will be using an old school Razr until something of interest comes along. The Inspire does not seem to warrant the use of my upgrade eligibility.
Also debating jumping ship altogether from AT&T. This whole HSPA thing, while not a deal breaker, certainly left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I have recently found AT&T store reps to be uninformed and fairly rude, especially on the phone. I have been a loyal customer since 2000.
I hope that the current locking trend we've seen from HTC and Motorola is not a sure sign of the future of Android. One of the main reasons I left my iPhone behind was because I enjoy tinkering with my phone a lot, and the Android OS is so well suited for it!
It seems like developer support is a key factor in ensuring the longevity of a device, far after the hardware company has moved on. I don't like to buy phones continuously off contract and I would like to ensure that my phone stays developmentally relevant for the duration off my contract.
This may not be the proper forum for this response, but I just felt the need to vent and am interested in hearing what you guys have to say. Not trying to bad-mouth the Atrix for those who like it, it's just not quite the Android experience I hoped for.

About the only thing the Atrix has going for it is the dual-core Tegra2. (being rant) Other than that, it's a piece of junk compared to cheaper phones, and what software even uses the dual-core feature? Faster browsing my a**! My iPhone 3gs had smoother and faster browsing! The screen sucks--yeah, it's got qHD, but with zig-zagged subpixels and a crappy response time, not to mention the darkest it gets is too bright and the brightest it gets is too dark. Bugs everywhere, if I leave the phone on for a day I stop getting text messages or data. I've never been able to get a google voice voicemail to play on my phone. I can't decline an update, I've been keeping the WiFi off for the last few days just to avoid it. I agree totally that Android is a nice OS, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for Motorola to give me something better than 2.2. (end rant)

I haven't had any of those issues. In my experience, it's a very stable phone. Which leak are you referring to? The DroidX ROM containing the At&t mention?

How dare you make me defend my statements! ;-) So, regarding the browsing, I'm sure you've noticed that when you scroll with several images on the page the images lag begind the text. As far as loading is concerned, it's hard for me to say that it's not my network conditions, but my 3gs definitely seemed faster. After a little bit of research, I've found that other people complained of this too, but apparently you can change flash to "on-demand" to make general browsing lag-free (haven't confirmed this personally)
As far as the zig-zagged subpixels are concerned, it's a well known fact that Motorola used a pentile pixel matrix to cut costs. It's harder to tell with black on white, but look at any blue hyperlink on a white background, especially when zoomed out (image originally referenced from here).
The display response time has been noticed by others. I couldn't find any official specs to confirm this, but if I'm right that it's a problem then the lack of published response time specs wouldn't be surprising.
Data dropping out is also a well known issue. There's also a post on Motorola's support forum.
The brightness issue is subjective, but I've read a few places that the screen doesn't do to well in daylight. I'm not going to bother referencing this or my google voice problem, their just straws on the camel's back.
Finally, I'm not going to use some rumor that 2.3 is coming soon (how soon?) to push me past my 30-day return limit. Too arbitrary.
So, maybe you don't agree with everything I say, but I hope I just made it really hard for you to say you don't agree with anything I say while keeping a straight face

I am actually a little unclear with what issues you have with the phone, most of this post just seems like you talking about liking the OS but not liking the AT&T service, HTC and motorola. You said very little about the phone itself.
to me it sounds like the best thing you should do is indeed jump ship from AT&T and go to verizon or something. As far as the "locking trend" from motorola and HTC.. i am assuming you are talking about the restrictions on sideloading and such. I may be wrong but i feel like this is an AT&T issue not motorola. Other providers that have HTC and Motorola dont seem to have as much issue (please correct me if i am wrong, i do not have too much experience with other providers) So dont worry this is not a sign of the future of android.
Sorry to hear you are not keeping the atrix, i have not had mine as long as you have but i love mine so far. Thanks for the input tho

I'm going to return my Atrix and hold out for six months at least to see what else comes out. I'm hoping the Galaxy S II will hit AT&T, but I am a bit jealous of my friend who gets 5mb+ on his Verizon iPhone4.

To complain about little things like a bit of browser lag, etc - pretty much anything not related to the Atrix itself, is like WTF? Take it up with your carrier, don't blame the handset.
Who really cares if you want to take your Atrix back. Just do it, no need to tell the world about it..
For the record, I've had my Bell Canada Atrix now for a week, and I can't fault it. The last 3 phones I've owned have been HTC Desire HD, iPhone 4 and Nexus S - and other than the Nexus S's gorgeous SAMOLED screen, the Atrix kicks all of others hands down.

I love my captivate the Super AMOLED is amazing! but i feel like that is the only thing that beats the Atrix. Oh and the Captivate has a much better camera software.. but i shoot a DSLRs so it doesnt bother me.
Im thinking if AT&T gets the Galaxy S II, i might have to switch just cuz the Super AMOLED is AMAZING.

I will also return 'cause its superlocked bootloader, can't be overclocked to thousands Ghz, can't install 3 roms one on top of each other and I can see the pixels of that pentile screen with my left eye. I just now realize that I don't really need a phone :-o

well there is a lot of thread people dont like and so on. i dont like locked bootloader perhaps its an amazing phone fast and the screen its weird because you can see pixels on the screen (why???) perhaps the bright under de sun on clarity i like more than my nexus one, webtop on hdmi its cool, the multimedia HD its pretty nice too,im returning (maybe) but to get another since i guess have a bad battery seems it dont last too mucho or maybe im so heavy user lol

Losing faith in atrix?

Anyone else slightly losing faith in their atrix?
I just put gingerbread on my cappy and I'm so impressed by the speed. I know I'm comparing froyo to gingerbread but for a dual core Id expect a bit betterr performance. The cappy handles live wallpapers much better than the atrix.
What's keeping me here is the fact that moto seems to actually care, the phone has gotten two updates already, and while second one has lower my phone down, I imagine that will be fixed.
Do you think the atrix is going to "fly" once gingerbread comes out for it? That's what I'm hoping for, or even if moto unlocked the bl

yea my buddy has an incredible and gingerbread made that phone buttery smooth.
this phone is still new.. I'll give it at least six months before I think about getting rid of it

This, I believe, refers to what the OP may be describing.
Smartphones are newer and better all the time. People on here buy every new phone! The Atrix new luster and excitement has worn off, and people are ready to move on to the next big thing(seems to be Galaxy S 2).
Thats the nature of the tech industry, and more specifically the smartphone industry.

I don't think I'd mind waiting 6 months, but also part of me says that 6 months is a long time to get the phone to a smooth point.

It will fly if we get the 2.4 gingerbread optimized for dual cores.

I had my Evo for about a year before having to make the decision to switch to AT&T. Here in the USVI, AT&T is just plain out faster, calls are clearer, there are less issues with the service and so on and so forth. I would have kept my Evo until the Evo 3D came out or something.
The Atrix is a beast of a phone and the service is great! I'm satisfied with what I have and from this point on, it can only get better.

I never got all those comments about how unresponsive the Atrix is.. mine is super responsive. Granted I come from a Touch HD (WinMo) phone which was friggin' slow as molasses by today's standards so yeah.. but hey the iPhone 4 is supposed to be a snappyness reference yet I constantly see my friends iPhones lag doing some basic thing at some point, and I find my Atrix to be way up there, so i'm not sure about all the complaining.. I don't get it.

I like the phone, I dont have any other problems with it. I can live with a locked bootloader, to me its not that big of a deal anymore because we wont get it unlocked....

I lost faith in my phone months ago. Wish I held out for an actually good phone.

The thing that sucks about this phone is mostly just the locked bootloader... sure gingerbread may come, and we finally got the hspa+, but what I really want is to be able to flash custom roms. Until then we're basically crippled and are stuck with clunky and featureless motoblur which barely taps into this things potential.

Lol.. No matter how amazing a device is, there will always be those who criticize it.
The hardware specs and technological innovations implemented on this phone are unlike any phone ever produced. For you to imply that this is not "actually a good phone" makes you appear very ignorant. I don't mean that in a disrespectful way.
I think the main issue here is usability for the average non-tech savvy user.. When they don't understand why the phone isn't doing what they want it to do, they assume it can't or it just sucks.. There are some users such as myself who understand the progression of new hardware & the intricacies involved with getting software to interface correctly with it. We expect to run into issues & focus on solutions rather than complaining.
If you want an environment where everything just works without much input needed from you, consider steve jobs walled garden aka iOS
Otherwise, dig in, try to understand how android & the phone works.. It's only gonna get better.

Most roms are just gingerbread with features that don't work. Flashing roms is fun until you needs to actually use your phone. Custom roms and kernals have so many bugs.

No one expects to run into issues with a 600 dollar piece of technology. They should, and rightfully so, expect it to work. THe G2x seems to have almost identical specs, and that phone performs much better under all situations. Android isn't about forcing the user to do unnecessary steps to make his phone work on par with any other on the market, its about giving you the opportunity to allow you to do more than whats on the the market. I can say right now, for the past 3 android phones i've boughten, i've never had to do anything special to make them work. Power on. Power off. Done. What makes the atrix different?
I know that sounds like a hateful post, but it's not. I just don't think it's fair for people to say a 600 dollar piece of electronic isn't gonna work right out of the box. I do still love my atrix, the form is great and the fingerprint scanner is very nice. But my concerns are legitimate and aren't solvable by steve jobs.

I'm fed up. Totally disappointed by the phone. The webtop mode remindes me of the carphone idea. Seemed good at the time buy useless shortly after. Hopefuly the galaxy S 2 will be announced tomorrow for att. If not on ordering from UK. This is the best android phone out right now for AT&T. Almost makes me wish I didn't jump ship for the iPhone 4 in June from T-Mobile (g2x & nexus s)

I think AT&T is announcing the samsung infuse tomorrow, not the SGSII, but who knows. I agree, webtop was cool for that first time you show your friends, but i've never used it since. While i have a HUGE grudge against samsung from the captivate debacle, i might try the SGSII but that probably won't hit until july like the cappy.

I switched to an inspire, I love the phone and everything about it, no lag with the latest cm. I'm switching back to the atrix for the ffc and battery life, battery life is abysmal on the inspire.
