Didn't see any posts about this, but it came across today at work. it said release date was 12-13, but that was yesterday, so....
Unfortunately, i don't have the exact changelog in front of me, but it included some pretty cool stuff, like Swype keyboard, a try it/buy it game from gamesoft, and others.
anyone else hear about this update?

This + This + This = Hard to get excited about a stock ROM that packs in more bloat.
As a side personal note, I've been furiously working on a revamped Gingerbread theme so I'm ready and anxiously waiting.
PS: I know added absolutely nothing to this thread.
Hard to get excited about ugly aosp. And yes your post had no value added to the thread. Based off their release numbers this would be a significant jump, could be something could be nothing. It's getting bot like to hear the tired old line of bloatware.......

and what exactly do you expect people to be talking about?
The only information anyone has seen is:
HTC - EVO 4G (A9292)
Software Version: 3.70.651.1
Release Date: 12/13/2010
Method: Available OTA + Retail
PRL Version: 60671
Version: 1.90_003
Hardware Version: 0002 / 0003
Fixes:
NEW FEATURES / SERVICES IN MR3
- Blockbuster (including WM DRM 10)
- Kindle eReader
- Preloaded try/buy video game: NOVA from Gameloft
- Sprint Zone update
- Latest Telenav
- Latest VVM App
- Latest Sprint TV app
- SWYPE Keyboard
- Scan Now Widget for 4G (does not need to be available on any panel, just a widget option users could find and use).
and noone even knows where that came from for sure.
What do *I* see in there? I see a bunch of new crap features and absolutely nothing under the "Fixes" section....
So you say bloatware but my phone feels fine, have fun repeating all the other crap other folks say. makes sense, you both were iphone owners, i wouldn't expect anything less

That's what some people like to call consensus.
..and slurping CM? I slurp no man. If I wanted to I'd just buy a Nexus S or just get some of my developers to port it for me - but having someone like CM (and the other developers) is just a bit more convenient and non-stupid.
...and with that I exit this thread.

oh no I owned an iphone for 2 years! Say you what you will but there's something to be said about a phone that doesn't need a firmware update every month or to be plugged in every 12 hours......
Don't get me wrong I love my Evo, I just wish it was as trusty as every other phone I've ever owned. In fact, I would go as far to say that technically the Evo is the most unreliable phone I've ever had. There's no way I'd turn my parents loose with one. It's the price you pay for technology though. It's strange to realize that the Evo is more powerful than my eeePC, runs longer on battery, and fits in my pocket. What an age we live in.
However, I had to cook my own rom just to get this thing "usable" in my book. With the iPhone it was just jailbreak and go....

their are rumors going around that the samsung moment will get 2.1 on the 22nd. if that is true would someone jsut be able to port that over to the hero pretty easily since they are both cdma?
just curious
We already have the CDMA drivers done on the leaked 2.1 build. All we need to put in are 1. Camera drivers 2. Bluetooth drivers
Toast just got multitouch working, so yay!
yeah true, well bluetooth is what i really need and I actually kinda like stock 2.1 more than sense, i think its mostly because ive had sense for awhile and like change.
sprint reps officially stated that there is no plan to release any update on the 22nd of the sprint forum.
It is well known that we are going to rollout 2.1 for the Moment, so that's not a new revelation. To me the intent of the article is to predict the impending release and I felt I should set the expectation. Many folks have expressed they are confused and they get conflicting information or no information/silence and they have been given promises that go unfulfilled. Just look at the comments following that article from folks who are certainly going to be disappointed even if it has been tagged as unofficial.
Yes, the target date is still 1H2010 and while I don't intend to address all future posts containing future date predictions, I feel it is necessary to disclaim the end of February rumored date. Customers who read that article should not hope that the 2.1 software will be available so please don't call the stores, please don't call Customer Care, please don't call Samsung taking a chance on the software.
Instead, monitor the situation here. This is your best source for data, I promised I would return from time to time with some updates and anyone who believes that know that if the software was that close to launching, I would have posted about it (basically means I am "coming back with an update as we get closer"). So I'm sorry I had to be so strong with my characterization of that article but with the high expectations for this update and I wanted to make sure this didn't go anywhere. No software for neither Moment nor Hero on 2/22, sorry. Please be patient and check back here."

Im with you on that.. and i can type pretty dam fast on it.. but its always wrong.. and I noticed its hyper sensitive... for instance, if i hover a finger over a virtual key it thinks Im long pressing it.. even though Im not touching it.. and if another text comes in while Im typing the key being pressed for that moment gets long pressed..
Haha I'm totally opposite you guys. I HATE physical keyboards. Back with AT&T, I switched a Samsung Eternity out for an Impression... big mistake. Not only the was the added bulk incredibly annoying, but the keyboard was SO innacurate, I just gave up on it and used the virtual keyboard. Trust me, virtual keyboards are better (if the keyboard isn't crap!). But have you guys tried Swype? I've been using it instead of the HTC keyboard, and I can type pretty accurately and fast now with it.

Yeah I did swipe for about a week. My main issue with V-KB's is that they take more focus. Its not that its anything wrong with it, I just cant bang out a text like I could on my Touch Pro.
As matter fact, I find myself not texting people back because I get annoyed with the KB, but seriously whats the best route for trading.
Getting kinda hard to believe that they were this close to releasing the consumer version of 2.2- and still no dice. With this kind of delay I really hope they have added a few surprises. With that being said, my only change would be to allow custom colors of the notification bar (hint, black) and custom color track ball colors. With these improvements I would have no reason to root....
Peace.
I changed maybe a dozen lines in my build.prop and this thing might as well be final. My phone is faster, more stable, and has more features than with the "current" official build. I'm content to sit tight and recommend you do the same

Where did you read from a Official Google Press release that one was close?
Google has stated that hey are working quite hard on Froyo, and making sure all the kinks are ironed out before the official release. I read this in my news reader, and therefore do not feel like going back to grab it. Rest assured, they are actually trying.

I cant believe how so many people are impatient for 2.2. It's not owed to you. It releases whenever it releases. If it does not, oh well, you still have a great phone. Getting a free 2.2 upgrade is just an added bonus on top of what you have.
For build.prop need root right? Debating going back after my swap put me on 2.1 again
The FRF50 build that was leak was barely put together.
In three weeks they have moved 19 new builds. FRF69 is the latest.
They were never "close to release".
In my opinion Google has LIFETIME immunity from complaints for being such a generous company and making Google Maps Navigation free...

I'd expect this kind of attitude from an iPhone user and not some one in the Android camp.
The Android platform is still young and needs to evolve a lot more, especially in UI refinement to become a mainstay mobile platform. Updating Android to 2.2 is not an 'added bonus', it's a necessary incremental evolution if Google is to compete with Apple, Palm/HP and RIM.

Yeah... answer to this question please.
Courtesy and respect go a long way. One other thing. Nothing you get from google is free. It charges for its services and the products you buy have those costs built in. Maps is not free, nav is not free, you pay for it every day every time you buy a product. There is no free cup of coffee. Ever. Corporations are in it to make money and nothing else. Google is not your friend, nothing they output sees the light of day unless they believe the profit is there. They fully plan on getting their pound of flesh and we owe them nothing. Anyone who thinks otherwise has yet to attain their 14th birthday.

Then nandroid, and go back to 2.1. 2.2 is obviously not official yet. It will be released soon though, and I have a feeling it will include a lot of hidden features. Perhaps they sent the current 2.2 as a BETA for people like us to test. We say "I like it, but I want ____ feature" and maybe they will add it in the official release. Who knows.
But don't complain about it.

It's all speculation. Google tends to stay pretty tight until they have a press conference or release party. Look at FroYo - it was a total surprise to wake up and find that they where dropping source into the tree.
The blog-o-sphere refers to Gingerbread as 3.0. I believe that Google has round-about-ly confirmed that the name is in fact "GingerBread", but we won't have a version number till they drop source in the tree again around November. Judging from the speculated improvements, it should be a major version number change.

My guess is 2.3 is correct, jumping a full revision number such as to 3.0 would generally indicate a partial or complete rewrite of the core code.

Google has said that they will be slowing down after GingerBread(regardless of the version number). My assumption is they did not expect such rapid growth of the platform and users need a fully functional OS to make it worth buying into - A phone any more is not a quick purchase, there is a lot of investment in hardware and software. Where as with feature phones they where cheap(in comparison) and easily replaceable.
From what I remember seeing, the next update is to have some big changes making it most likely 3.0. All speculation though.
Personally I'm happy android has been updating quick. Keeps the phones newer fresher feeling longer and fixes problems quicker. I came from winmo and never got fixes and the roms bored me. Plus I really hated 6.5.
I'm holding out until December to upgrade and debate on new phone or used evo. I've been out of contract for 9 months now.

Somebody probably changed the build.prop or something.
This is what HTC said about why the new OTA didn't get a sense update even tho alot of us were pissed about it.
I understand how important it is for you to have the latest software available for your device. We work with Sprint to determine which of their branded HTC devices will receive software updates. If your carrier does not request an update for the device we cannot create or host it. For the most up to date information regarding your carrier’s decision to update the device we recommend contacting them.
HTC cannot disclose any information regarding ROM updates until the carrier approves them. I cannot answer any questions or comments regarding any other company’s or manufacturer’s practices. I can tell you it is an industry standard to provide updates for a device for 18 months after its introduction. “Google has announced a partnership with manufacturers and cellular providers to keep all devices up-to-date in Android OS for an 18 month period from the date of launch. HTC and our native carriers were included in this list.
The one exception would be if a device's hardware does not meet the requirements of the update.” This refers to the base operating platform, Android, not the interface of the device. While we do make HTC Sense, our service providers have the final say on what is included in any update that is created for their branded devices.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 11USCW24ENA000324.

The most stable 2.1 is virus Synergy Rom I'm loving it nightly build. I haven't had to partition my SD card for any ROM yet you can if you want to .
That sounded more to me like, "Don't ask us, ask Sprint" They're the ones that chose to not let you have the most up to date ROM we could have given you."

I know lol think EVO users should ***** at Sprint for it . I was just asking why and that is what HTC was pretty much saying Sprint is the one to blame.

What's even more pathetic is that Sprint Rep told me the DAY BEFORE THE UPDATE was announced that the Evo would never get GB.....

Ya they tend to be a pain in the ass when asking for information. Sad the EVO is a great phone and could run sense 3.0 with no problem but Sprint is all about making money and are gonna screw us over on updates.

It's called marketing 101. Why would you give the oldest phone the same enhancements as the new one? aren't businesses in business to actually make money and to protect their shareholders?

Well its all about Sprint not wanting to pay for the updated Sense. Anyways thanks to Mik, we have the closest thing to Sense 3.0 with Sense 2.1. It is the best Sense rom I have ever used on XDA

Why desperate for 3.0?
I am trying to understand why everyone is so desperate for Sense 3.0. I have run the leaked GB with Sense 3 and it is no great shakes - mostly window dressing with very little added functionality. I went back to a previous version of Sense just because it is simpler and does 99% the same stuff.
I really do not see people buying a phone in order to get the next version of Sense...

I agree with this part. I am not looking at buying for Sense 3.0. I am buying the EVO3D for the updated hardware. Also I am sure that I am not the only one.

I will buy it for the hardware too! The 3D looks great. I was referring to someone else who indicated that the version of sense would be a reason to buy (or not buy) a phone. When in my opinion, later versions of Sense do almost nothing new for the phone.
Just my opinion after using 3.0 for a week or so.

Wait, what???
I'm sorry, but having the Quick Settings in the task bar pull down, the last used apps in there, too, a better lock screen system, better apk management, more options, etc, etc, is NOT just window dressing

No, that's also not exclusively Sense 3.0, which is what he was talking about. that can be seen in Sense 2.1 Which actually runs very nice on the EVO.
I've tried both Virus B1.1.3 (Sense 3.) and MikG 1.01 and 1.02 (Sense 2.1 + 3)
Here is my experience.
Virus's Revolution B1.1 and up REQUIRES SD Partition. flashing the ROM will WIPE THE SD CARD, it states it right on the tutorial. "Back up yo ****, this is deletin' yall!!" (Paraphrasing.)
After doing everything, backing up SD, partitioning card, converting partition, installing ROM. it is VERY pretty, the carousel effect is hypnotizing. But it just wasn't stable enough and wasn't fast enough for my liking. Apps frequently crashed and the Rosie kept needing to restart because it was too big to sit in the Memory. I even did all the tricks to try and keep it from having to do that.
MikG 1.02 is pretty quick, not the fastest ROM I've ever used, but in terms of other Sense roms, it's right up there with the rest of them. Really, the only thing I can see that is missing from the pure Sense 3 variant is the carouselling Homescreen and huge updated Weather widget. the Weather app that opens looks like Sense 3 though, which is odd, because in Virus's it's Sense 1 or 2.
Better true this time The wait has been too long.... Can't wait....
The HTC One Android 4.2 official update has once again been confirmed by the company without a specific release time frame being provided. Earlier this month we reported that HTC Russia had confirmed availability of Android 4.2.2 for HTC One in mid-June, but the update itself is yet to drop. Recently Three UK, one of the carrier partners across the pond that offers HTC’s latest flagship, recently replied to a customer’s query on Twitter revealing that HTC had “just pulled” the 4.2.2 release. This indicates that a June launch of this update was definitely on the cards, with Engadget reporting that HTC has confirmed to them that the update is indeed coming soon, but customers might have to wait a bit longer. HTC One ships with Android 4.1 pre-installed, whereas its main rival the Galaxy S4 ships with Android 4.2. Some features expected in the HTC One Android 4.2 official update have already been detailed, but the company itself hasn’t confirmed exactly what improvements this update will bring. Like everyone else, we’ll keep waiting patiently for this update, and will let you know as soon as it drops.... Read more at: http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/06/htc-one-android-4-2-official-update/

Does it really matter? I mean, the M7 is already set up better than the S4 with its 4.2 config... I honestly don't think it needs anything at all in terms of added software features, just some finishing touches (and softkey related updates to everyone who is still waiting for it).

Pull down native notification for wireless toggle, etc and the most important home button can set as menu. :good:

Yea, I suppose both of those are good things. Even though you can get to the wireless/wifi toggles one click from pull down menu... or one touch on a toggle bar from home screen. the home button menu could be good? not sure what other menus are needed...
(Jags, what? I'm not complaining about updating... who doesn't like new things for free?)

The home Menu button are meant to remove and replace the 3 dot black bar.
Yes I want the black bar gone.

I don't have any of these issues... my home button brings up the apps drawer if I hit it in default screen, and brings up the search function if I hold it down... thanks to Nova launcher, which is free. It almost looks vanilla in my config except with black bars being transparent, and the app drawer half transparent, and nicer hand-picked icons with no text on homescreen
Just wish they release the goddamn kernel source. I swear someday I will leave my beloved HTC for the plastic, just for better developement, if this kind of delay persists.

people like you, all you do is want want want and nothing else. release the kernel source faster for better development? or for your selfish wants.
ever thought about others? them working for free just for your selfish needs.
why dont u do something good with the kernel source instead of throwing all the work to other people then leech on it like a damn parasite and moan when it's updated slower than other masterpieces
and then says stuff like "oh im gonna jump to plastic if my selfish need isnt fulfilled"

i think we deserve the kernel source asap don't you think? i payed premium price for this device running android (the most open source phone OS) so i could get all the benefits of open source policy
the fact that HTC always slacks on sources is gross

everybody pays a premium for gadgets. not just a phone alone.
and it's already performing currently, there's no need to rush things.
good things come to those who wait.
if everything u paid for deserves to be updated quickly because "it costs like a premium item" , then you're wrong.
it's like saying i paid a premium for my ac router, i deserve faster firmware updates to speed the damn thing up
and they have no obligations to comply with the open source license. only google does that.
nowadays with all the patent ****storms, nobody really cared about open source anymore. they want everything to themselves

HTC generally is pretty fast, sometimes a few weeks slower than samsung, sometimes a few weeks faster with updates. I installed the 4.2.2 update but immediately I noticed my bottom speaker started popping and the animation in the pull down menu was jittery and when opening the app drawer I first saw a grid of 4x2 icons before showing my 5x4 grid. These were just the bugs I noticed in the first minutes of installing. HTC were right in pulling that update. JB 4.2 itself doesn' t offer a lot either for phones. The one thing I really want from 4.2 is the fix for the msm_hsic_host suspend bug, but most people seem to be unaffected by this wakelock anyway.

With 4.2.2 on the ONE 2013 Flagship phone, everything AWESOME. As Samsung S4 come preloaded. Just that the smartphone battle has becoming more tough. At least HTC can speed up a little bit :fingers-crossed:
Most importantly for me is the 3 dot black menu bar remove and pull down notification wireless etc toggle menu.

My wife owns the s4 and trust me, I wish they would have taken more time working out the bugs. She's Constantly complaining about little things not working, and I'm always having to clear cache on apps, rebooting her phone and what not to fix it.
My htc one runs 100x more stable than her s4 despite being rooted rommed and s off

Yeah I got rid of the s4 for this. That phone was laggy as hell. And I had custom kernels and roms on it. This was faster then that off the bat. And even with cpu powersave on it is still faster haha.
