How to Convert ext-2 to ext-3 - Epic 4G General

Ok, I've searched on this and haven't found an answer. I have Clockwork Recovery installed. I partitioned my new 32GB sd card using clockwork. I have read that I'm supposed to convert from ext-2 to ext 3 and that is supposed to be a menu choice in recovery. I don't see it anywhere. What am I doing wrong?

upgrade_fs but the option should be in the menu of clockwork somewhere.

thanks for asking this. i'm both a newbie (or, as the kids would say, "noob") and an idiot, so i don't have the answer, but i would like to ask a follow-up or two:
1- what is the best size for the sd card partition? 512? 1024?
2- how about the "swap size"?
thanks in advance, and forgive my ignorance

thanks, but I've looked and looked in the menu structure. I think I've got a rather old clockwork (2.5.1) but I can't seem to get it updated to 2.5.5. I've tried everything including their uninstall script. Ugh.
I set the partition at 1024 MB.
I guess I just don't understand this stuff well enough.....

Please post questions in general section.

[Q][11Jan] Possibly silly question about Clockwork recovery..

Hi guys,
Ive been reading about Clockwork recovery (watched the videos etc.) but still have a question.
I am using this rom on my HD2: NexusHD2-Froyo V1.9b NAND
I have configured my phone with all my personal settings, app, etc. and I want to install clockwork recovery so that I can install Apps2SD (using the .zip installation file). My 8GB SDcard is already partitioned with 1GB ext4 partition following the 7GB fat32 partition.
The question is can I install clockwork recovery without having to flash a new rom afterwards thus loosing all my current configuration? Or installing clockwork (copy files to SD root, then flash etc) does not affect current installed NAND rom?
Sorry if I was supposed to get this info through the various threads - I just could not find a clear answer.
Regards,
F
copy over the 2 files it tells you to and follow the insteructions, it wont do anything tothe existing installtion, well it didnt to me anyways

Did you qlso install clockworkmod with the correct partition size? If your partition is to small for the rom image boot loops are caused.
Sent from my HTC HD2
Assuming you have the right partition size go to clockwork cleardata/factoryreset then clear cache the go to advanced and clear dalvic rhen reboot

you have partitioned your sd,not nand. i think your rom needs 5-150-5 nand partition. unrar attached file.connect phone to pc.in mgldr go to usb flasher- see usb flasher.....usb-right click on daf-run as administrator-after it finishes flash your rom using mgldr-ad recovery-install zip from sd-choose zip from sd-choose your rom.zip.after it finishes reboot.
(save this recovery folder in pc.when you need a different size of nand partition open flash.cfg with notepad and arrange it according to your needs.)

it s normal that nand boot fails, because you didnt flash your rom.zip from sd yet. nand partitioning arranges your phone's internal memory according to the need s of roms. if you use a rom with same nand partition size (e.g. miui roms or cm7 roms but not sense roms) you will not apply partition again, just wipe data/factory reset in ad recovery menu and flash the rom.

How about a fresh install?
That guy had bootloops, maybe the same error? anyway, Follow this post by me ,, it is a full & complete step by step on how to install the ROM you wanted (HyperGBX).
Most importantly, Swap Step 8 with your MAGLDR ROM from pongster's thread (HyperGBX)

i beatin the hell outta F5, come guys .....the longer i wait, im foneless
is there something im missing?
whats an how to nand pasrtion
^ the same for sd partionin
i stumped
NAND Partition 250MB - SD-EXT4 2GB what do these mean, an do i need em?
Where did you find these information? where did you find NAND partition 250 .... etc ?
Maybe you have bad blocks (which I hope not, because data cannot be written on them, resulting in some missing system files, thus giving you bootloops).
Check this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189544 and follow the instructions, then attach the log file.

[Q] Some general advice/help needed

Hey guys,
New to these forums so a big hello from me!
I just have a few questions I would like to ask. I got myself an EU HD2 that had MIUI installed - I didnt like this so flashed it back to windows 6.5
I would like to install the Energy rom with HTC Sense so here are my questions..
When it says "EU needs CWR 5/210/5 is the minimum requirement with a 1GB ext2/3/4 partition on sdcard." What does this mean and how do I do it? I mean like what tools do I use? I did this through Clockwork Mod for the 1GB thingy but I have a feeling I am doing it wrong. What steps am I missing?
I manage to install it but it just gets stuck at the bootscreen, this is the same for any rom I install so I am guessing I am doing something wrong which I believe is the 2/210/5 bit. I have no idea what this is - would someone be kind enough to explain it to me and teach me what to do?
I have looked about the forums for a solution but I cant seem to find any guide that details how to do that 2/210/5 part.
Any help would be appreciated!
5 Meg boot partition ( default, you can ignore this)
210 system partition
5meg cache partition. You set these during flashing of cwm,,, use the "nand toolkit", select 210 on the left, put 5 in the cache box, and click repartition.
Yes use cwm to set the SD ext 1gb.
I've written a guide, its about how to install cLk but thhe first few paragraphs are about the layouts like you just mentioned. It may help you some.
Here is the link.

CAN'T BOOT TO 4.0 but 2.3 is fine???

how come none of the ICS 4.0 works but all 2.3 works? did it flash the wrong MAGDLR and HSPL or something? all 2.3 takes 3 minutes to boot. but all ICS are passing 1 hour and it's still not booting 4.0
what size of system partition u using ?

not sure what you mean. maybe that's the problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860
check there
Installations:
Please use at least 165MB system partition and at least 2MB cache partition.
sigh... this is disheartening...
i don't get it. i go to 8. AD RECOVERY and partition SD to at least 200mb and least 2mb and still just loads and loads and loads on the colorful boot screen.
No, you don't partition your SD, you flash a new CWM partition layout. Download CWM, change the flash.cfg to whatever size is necessary then enter USB flasher mode on the phone and flash from the PC. On your SD card a 1gb EXT partiton is recommended which is probably what you had before changing it.

[Q] Fail at booting

Hello guys,
I installed this particular rom on my HD2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224469
The installation completes succesfully but when I reboot it stucks on a black screen. Using MAGLDR and CWM, in the installation I chose NAND installation type. Is there maybe anything I do wrong?
Thx in advance

You chose ONLY Nand? You must have enough system partition. What device do you have? (Eu or Tmo) and what is your partitioning?

You should use DataOnExt. Create an ext partition on your sdcard and reinstall the ROM with the installation option "Nand with DataOnExt" chosen. And you should be good to go.

Ok thx a lot.. huhmm, how am I gonna create the partition? And if my memory serves me right it must be FAT32 format right?
You can follow this great tutorial by mengfei up to the point where he says "Another method of creating an EXT4 partition". (don't forget to thank him)
Edit: Your memory failed you , it must be an ext2/3/4. (In addition to your original FAT32)

If I'm not mistaken it's almost exactly the same as in mengfei's guide. Just boot into AD Recovery from MAGLDR, select Advanced then partition SD card. Choose whatever size you like (if you're not sure then 1GB is always a good safe option) and usually you won't have need for a swap partition so select 0 here. This will delete all of the data on your SD card though so make sure to back anything important up first.

Ok, and as long as I do partition the sd card it will obviously need to copy the .zip of the ROM again onto the sd card correct?

Yeah, the best way to do it is using an SD card reader but since you don't have that using USB mass storage or the option in cwm should be fine.

That process is likely to format your sdcard, so MAKE SURE you have backed up everything. That means you'll also have to recopy the .zip file of the ROM.
Ok, so thx each one of u for the help, rly appreciate it Thx a lot guys
