I was expecting Sense development to dwindle to nothing over the next year, with WM 7 on the horizon.
But with WM7 looking increasingly poo (from today's announcements: no removable storage card, no customisations, limited copy/paste, no file manager, DRM all over, and generally all the problems the iphone had 4 years afo), I'm hoping we may see a decent after-life from 6.5.
Not that I like 6.5: It's customisable, a sound operating system, and an open-platform, but it's also clunky and ugly as hell.
But I'm hoping we may now see Sense continue to evolve (new Facebook tab etc), when before I was expecting it to come to a halt, minus the odd patch here and there.
Anyways, I love Sense. It masks 6.5 very well and is a great interface for a mobile phone. Here's hoping it will become more extensible and feature-filled in the future.

Yup, for Android.
Hello, Desire.
Hi,
To be honest, from what I've seen of Windows Phone Series 7 I'd rather have Sense or a sense like interface on any operating system rather than use the "7" interface. HTC will continue to develop Sense, but will they be able to do so for "7"? Potentially they may be allowed to create a portal to Sense within the "7" Interface scheme (sorry, I can't remember what you call each of the tabs on "7", I found it too boring to remember when watching the various MWC videos. I wasn't "Super Excited" )but you probably wouldn't be able to have the phone boot up into that as a default interface for the full phone and you might not be able to use sense for certain functions (messaging dialer etc.). This is all speculation on my part of course).
HTC introduced a new version of Sense on Android at Mobile World Congress and stated that existing Sense users on Android will get a free upgrade. I expect HTC to keep developing it.
With a gtood enough interface, connectivity, function and features I really shoudn't care what the underlying operating system is.
My honest opinion.
Althougg i like the look of wp7s i think its not efficent in the sense you need to do too much scrolling to navigate. The best use of speedy navigation is icons in a grid format so you see more links per page and less scrolling. like the iphone. btw i love my hd2 and never owned an iphone.
I'm definitely choose "Sense" rather than "I-**** like WM7"...
Seems Android is the way to go..
I was pretty excited seeing the live launch thing. It looked pretty cool, fresh, original UI if you will. Right now I'm actually thinking about sticking with 6.5. That OS can do almost anything when compared to that non-multitasking protected and closed off bunch of tiles... I don't know right now, I'll need it on my device at least once.
That being said I'm too starting to hope on further development of Sense. As said above, it's a really great and fast UI to use and looks good too. And you can customize it, 'make it yours', right?
Grtz
Lukas
well
I agree. with what I have see and heard I am not interested in WM7. If 6.5X still gets developed I will stay otherwise I will move to Android.
However until WM7 is actually released I will sit on the fence. As previously seen a lot of facts seem to be unproven in the long run.

The title fonts are huge and it other font sizes could be smaller. I know that WP7s wants WVGA initially.. but all the screen I've seen seem to make me think they didn't use the space efficiently. It seems more like they designed it for HVGA.
I doubt HTC will continue Sense for WM considering WM7 you CANNOT have Sense UI at all so why even bother..
I also think HTC is moving more towards Android now..
I myself have been tempted to move to Andriod but i've been a WinMo user since dunno when and have gotten soooo used to it i can't imaging moving to a new OS altogether and i love the HD2...no way i'm going to have WinMo7 in it even if it does get supported..
No WVGA, No Cut & Paste, No File explorer, No Sense UI, no Flash, No installs from cab files, not backward compatible...with more to come each day...Why would i even want to use Winmo7? It sounds sooo primitive.
Who knows after the HD2, I just might move to Android, not because i want to but because ultimately i believe i have to...
You know, I used to be Apple sheep, and only recently (1 year) I started using windows and dabbled here and there on Linux, and realized how much freedom you have on these devices and not being told what programs are cool to use and all that.
iPhone was cool because I didn't know any better.
Now that I've started to see just what windows/mobile has to offer, I feel like Neo, waking up in the tank from the Matrix.
And here's Windows Phone 7 Series. Microsoft killed the little resistance group and the only salvation they offer is to go back to the tank and back to the Matrix.

It does seem like Microsoft is turning it's back on those loyal to Windows Mobile to appeal more to the iFashion brigade. I foresee this pushing a lot of us away from WPS7 towards Android.

Have a look at the little discussion about the WP7 emulator image, a lot of stuff in there is similar to WM6.5, so there's a lot of "openness" to hacks...

You have my word.
If HTC calls time on Sense for WM, I hope they will unlock some of the features so we can customise it (e.g. new/unlimited tabs)
Honestly!...
Why should I flash "googles" Android into my Bad Ass HD2???
No Joke! I need to know what all the fuss is about...
Why you ask? Well for a number of reasons. A search will tell you all of that as im sure this question has been asked over and over lol.
If you need to ask...
Seriously, why don't you just try it? You're not flashing anything. You won't lose any of your current information. I was enjoying the hacked versions of WinMo on my HD2, but now with Android I don't feel I need to ever go back.

Let's be nice. Android is pretty limitless many things can be added. Winmo is sorta outdated. Right now winmo has a lot of community support but that's just not enough. Try it . Dont expect anything and see what you get.
Biggest problem I see is winmo users go into android expecting the same experience.

Funny one
topic: some things are better with android, some arent. I think the interesting fact is to chose the operating system YOU want to use.
You can compare it with the operating system situation on your PC. Some people want to use Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, MacOSX,.....
I think it's a perfectly legitimate question: Not everyone has the love of digital adventures, tweaking or driving someone with more knowledge up the wall we do.
Why not just say what you like about Android? Unless you're not sure....well?
I enjoy reconfiguring my phone. I must have flashed custom WinMo ROM's a hundred times and radios tens of times. Configuring script to put my applications back the way they were, testing the build for smooth operation, stability and features had been a thrill of mine...my hobby, I guess you'd say, since the HD stemming from late 2008.
Android just kind of picks up where Winmo left off. I'm using Elegancia ROM and have been for months. It works great with the Android offerings.
Is Android better? If that's your question, then in my opinion, WinMo is better than Android on the HD2 as of this writing, by Android on this device is catching up incredibly fast.
Maybe you'll like it, maybe not. If your interested enough to chance getting flamed, then you are most likely a candidate to give it a go.
3 simple reasons
1. faster internet browsing
-android have simply a faster browsing experience for me, faster than opera on wm anyday
2. market
-the abundance of customization and application in the android market vs the wm store is like comparing a walmart to a gas convience store for choice of app and avaibility of apps
3. utility
-android simply utilize our screen and hardware much more efficently than windows. try the foursquare app on windows, and then try the foursquare app on android, it's like comparing a dirt road to a 5 lane highway in terms of usability and speed

To the OP: Exactly what everyone else said (apart from infiniteecho)
Try it and see. Nothing to lose except maybe half an hour of your time.
As said above its 'hoarses for coarses'. I wasnt expecting much from Android because Minmo did everything I needed +more, plus it looked ok visually IMHO using CHT etc.
But android just feels slicker somehow...plus I'm not yet missing any of the features that I thought I really loved in winmo. Just the fact of having a good Market is a BIG plus for some people (myself now included although I always thought I'd never care for thousands of mainly pointless apps )....Android is generally a LOT more finger friendly than any 6.5.x build..... the list goes on.
Personally I am becoming a convert FAST. I will almost deffinately switch soley to Android when a proper android rom is released.
Dual booting is great and its always nice to have the option of two O/S's, but I find myself wanting to see Winmo less and less everytime I wake my new Android phone from its beuty sleep I just dont love Winmo like I used too lol.
But the only way you will ever really know is if you try it for yourself go on you (probably) wont be dissapointed.
WinMo stock = sack of **** on the HD2, you have to hack and slash away until you eventually get something that works. Then, and only then can you continue to play around with it.
Android, out of the box it works, and your free to play around with it and make it your own. If it wasn't for Android my HD2 would have be sold.
The touch screen and general Windows Mobile performance just pissed me off, you could triple the power of the HD2 and you still wouldn't get a smooth, slick experience.

i like android because of the limitless apps, you'll never need for anything again for a phone. the market was the main reason for me because most apps are free, now google maps include free navigation! windows mobile who? lol plus even with android being ported to our hd2 it out performs windows mobile, less freezes and errors. programmed to work better! internet browsing, smoother and faster. once u learn all the features and how to use widgets u will like wmo less and less. i never seen myself becoming a fan of android when i was solely against it when i had touch pro 2
Me??? Because WinMo is Sh*t. If I couldn't have loaded Android on this HD2... it would have been on Craigslist an hour after I got it.
Unless of course bloated, clunky, slow, crashing, lack luster garbage is someone's thing... l would advice them to stay away from Android.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have tried my best to like wm7 but imho its lagging far behind Android and dare I say Apple, although it is faster.
I like the new look with the tiles and the rest of the ststem, but get past that to the functionality of it and it does seem lacking.
I can't use it on my pc as disc storage to transfer files, what were they thinking.
No navigation aid
Even putting your own ringtone on it is a bit of a chore, in this day and age of tech could they not have come up with something more user friendly, ie put mp3 on phone-select said mp3 and then choose "set as ringtone/notification."
If I'm honest I just don't see the point of this phone 7, I really feel they have missed the boat, Google and Apple must be killing themselves laughing.
I know I will probably get flamed for this but its just my opinion and I know I can go back to wm6.5 or Android (which I will), but just wanted to try it, glad I did as I'm due an upgrade soon and was seriously thinking of a windows 7 phone but will stick with Android or maybe try Blackberry
Anyway thanks for listening.

The USB storage is a little disappointing but not as disappointing as Android's failure to play movies without serious editing skills.
The overall experience is far superior to Apple and Android.MI
it's really a stunning OS, Zune and the social sites, is not unlike a high quality magazine...I've used and enjoyed many Android builds (Thank you XDA DEvs), owned every iPhone, a Galaxy Vibrant S too, but my favourite is the HD2 particularly now running Windows Phone7 flawlessly.
oh and Netflix too
I think its important to remember that Microsoft got seriously screwed over on WM. They provided the core OS that was very very open which was great of course, but 3rd party companies an carriers took advantage of that. HTC for example, there initial versions of touch Flo were terrible, there graphics driver support was non existing, carriers then filled the thing with crap an modded it some more then we all blame MS for it being slow and unstable.
I think as much as I like wm for its openness, I believe MS had little choice, back then MS let everyone else make the image of wm an that bckfired. This way might be a bit of a pain just now but I believe as MS gets more in tune with developing it will get better.
Tell me, MS released updates to wm all the time, how many legit updates did your carrier give you?
The carriers had MS by the balls on the WM model of operating and it was Ms that got the flack

I totally agree. I was a WM developer when it was was first introduced. I love WM's open architecture and the POTENTIAL it provided.
Now, I love WP revamped UI/UX and some of the development tooling around it. However, IMO, I think it is too far towards the Apple route in that it tried to lock down too much. I would have loved it if they moved towards Android's paradigm.
I have a couple of friends who refuses to move off WM because they loved the fact that WM is so powerful and you can pretty much do anything to it. We will see what hapens in the next few months. Hopefully MS will release some updates that makes WP more interesting.

Couldn't agree more, maybe thats what I was trying to say but just ended up ramblingon on, it was 01:30 when I wrote it.
I agree to some extent, I am currently dual booting Android and WP7
I really enjoy the UI and fast slick appearance of the WP7, in fact its near on perfect until....you try to use more than one app at once and try to simple drag a file across to your phone.
Microsoft have got to sort out these few point NOW:
Enable the ability to run two or three applications at once, ie try playing Tunein Radio then send a text or do anything other than simply use tunein radio. this is just one example.
The only multi task available is music, this was how iOs started three years ago, I know you are working on it, but this update has to be released NOW...
Cut and paste yes this is hugely desirable, sort out the Marketplace stability and search functions, perhaps add folders all these things would be nice.
BUT the Multitasking issue is HUGE, take a look at Ebay or any other second hand phone sales forum, notice the increase of Windows Phones on there, I feel sorry for people who are restricted to just WP7, MS release a pathetic update that bricks a large percentage of phones and all the update is for is to pave the way for future updates, technology moves so fast, MS need to move fast on these updates, dual Tegra's, 3D phones, are nearly here and MS are floundering about with problematic updates and delays
It was a percentage but I wouldn't go as far as saying a large one, again multitasking brought wm to its knees sometimes, I agree it needs opened up a bit so I'm quite untreated in seeing what the new multitasking model allows. It will get there I'm sure but I think its important to let them build on what they have in a stable Manor, id rather that then them opening it up and some not so good developers release garbage that slows the system. Forinstance does your radio program stop all UI updates if screen is off or on another program... Dunno but just a thought
WP & HD2
HD2 is my first SmartPhone and my first go at customisng with ROMs etc.. Previously I've always had Sony Ericsson mobiles.
WM6.5 is a beast of an OS, true MS (infinitely hackable, proved by the existence of Xda) and made pretty and usable with HTC Sense.
As I use my phone for work as a PDA with 3rd Party CRM software I was concerned about the loss of function I was going to see with WP7. I need multi-tasking and touchscreen Signature capability, but I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade. I had some problems at first with the SD card, but since upgrading that the experience of WP7 has been hugely impressive. It looks good and does what it does very well. I've found it very stable, no awkward freezes or white screens (post SD Card change).
I've not tried the Maps app properly yet, but if it hooks with GPS, shows me a route and follows me as I drive (like Google Maps on WM6.5), I'm happy with that. I don't need or want the annoying turn by turn voice control of some over-paid celebrity or underpaid Google-geek.
I have lost the ability to use it for work, but I don't really like work that much anyway. And I have a spare HD2 to play with.
I've not used and have no plans to use Android or iOS, but from what I've seen of friends i-Phones, I'm not missing much apart from a huge library of catapult games and i-Gun apps (the Nuance Dragon Talk-2-Text(ish) app would be very nice to have though).
Thanks but no thanks, I'll wait til WP7 has been updated and the public finally get behind this awesome OS. An official ROM for HD2 would be lovely, but with the stablity, functionality and speed of the cooked ROMs I'm not too fussed.
Far from laughing, once MS gets this OS into gear and throw even a fraction of i-Apples marketing budget at it, Android & Apple are going to have a huge Windows shaped problem on their hands.
If what you want is an OS that you can tweak the hell out of then 6.5 is for you. If you just want to use your phone for phone calls, e-mails and music etc... then WP7 has got my vote.

A thread about getting iOS ported to HD2.
Sorry if i've gone off topic but......
m$ missed the boat? NO! They are a NEW boat which is growing and gaining speed. Just wait.
..wp7 is a unique os and feels great. It's not perfect yet but that will come in time when the most wanted features will be added.
For me Android is nice..but I like wp7 better! Even with it's shortcomings at this time.
I have had WP7 in the past on my HD2, but came back to Android...
reason, WP7 is trying to following iOS model, which does not work (for me) as MS dont make their own hardware.
Also, am guessing they rushed out the OS release, just to avoid being forgotten,
but in my view they could have waited a bit longer and release a more fully featured OS.
Granted a compnay develops a new OS , its going to have few misses here and there, but MS has previous experience of Mobile OS and that should have been better used.
Having said all that, I dont see MS loosing the Mobile battle, they have huge R&D capability coupled with past experience and ofcourse money.
If I have to stick my neck out , I would say the following can do wonders..
1. MS changes the Metro UI to make it more appealing or provides an option to do so.
2. Makes the OS a bit more open
At any rate, if we can wait for atleast 2 major(not minor like nodo) updates, the OS should be lot more capable.
I do like certain aspects of Win7 but they need to catchup pretty fast.
I was on Android too, but after WP7 was installed on my phone I do not wish to go back. The main reason: SIMPLICITY!
There are other reasons as well, like speed, beauty, ease of typing, etc.
Just yesterday I was helping my newbie friend set up his HTC Desire, and while doing so I was reminded once again why I do not wish to go back to Android. Too many steps in setup, screens slow to load (yeah guys, lets not pretend we don't see 'loading' way too many times when switching between screens, i.e., People, Bookmarks, etc) and a score of other things which turns me off. This is not to say that Android is bad, by no means, it is a great system and some people may prefer it to anything else. A matter of personal choice, no problem, I understand.
But please, please, stop bashing WP7 for this or that. It is a new system and while it may be so it is still much better than both Android and iOS were in their incipient stages. Or are you pretending you have forgotten that?!
MS is a too big of a company to enter this race with a half product, they are here to kill.

Totally agree with you as I said the same in a different vein earlier...
but just wanted to point out that 'loading' screen on HTC Sense based devices you see is a sense thing not stock Android..
I don't think MS tried to follow iPhone OS or similar!Thats why they created a newly simple OS.. Android is trying to mimic iPhone as the OS is pretty similar with it! the reason i gave my HD2 for an official Wp7 device is for the originality of product! I loved my HD2 but when i flashed wp7 the whole senario changed instantly! It's the 2nd time i respect Microsoft for doing such a Big step (the 1st was windows 7 PC).
The Wp7 OS is simple, user friendly and really fast because no apps or sources are running in the Background and that's really cool! The features are really awesome.. i only agree that they didn't include more features such as copy-paste, Home wallpapers and more; but for sure they will come up! Before the official realease i said "what the fcuk Microsoft did to this OS??? I hate it!" But actually when i got it in my hands i said "this is pure awesomeness!!!!!!!!"
WP7 has great potentials and i really love it; and i am glad they forgot Windows 6.5!
I am also glad that they came up with updates in no time! I am rest assured that they will update the OS frequently!
I think MS hit it right on with wp7.... yeah, it's limited right now, but what OS isn't on their 1st release. WP7 is way better than android or iphone was with their 1st versions. And already MS is getting an update ready to include multitasking, which looks awesome the way they're doing it. I think WP7 is going to catch up to android and iphone fast, and possibly pass them up in the next year or 2... we'll just have to wait and see.

I really hope they do make it happen, and I hope the next few updates prove me wrong and produce a top notch phone.
Hi I wanted to buy a wp8 device but after reading this article I gave up buying a wp8 device. Because no custom roms is a deal-breaker for me. So looks like its not possible to unlock wp8 devices for now but I don't know is it gonna be in the future. I'm asking because I don't know how unlocking process works because I never used a wp device. I know how android system works but I have no idea about wp devices. So if you guys can explain if it can be done in the future or why we will never be able to unlock wp8 devices. :good:
Edit: Its no longer a deal-breaker for me I thought unlock was important as much as jailbreak on iphone and root on android. But thanks for helping me realise wp devices do not need unlock
Edit2: I bought a lumia 920. You guys were right wp is awesome. Only things I am missing from android is file explorer, rotation lock and notifications.
Yes you definitely dont know much about WP. You never used one, but you know that custom ROMs are dealbreaker for you. Nice.
Just to let you know, custom roms are not important at all in WP. They dont bring much improvement, far less than in android.

You can be right, custom roms means a lot on android and jailbreak means a lot for iphone. So I thought unlock is important like jailbreak/root. But if not, I'm definitely gonna buy a wp8 Thanks for the info about roms. I want to ask, can we install local apps like we can do at android without unlocking?
Windows Phones do not need custom ROMs, because all the mess that's happening on base ROMs for android is not present, which is why custom ROMs exist for android in the first place, and not because of customization or whatever else then less enlighten users use ROMs for.

Er, custom ROMs aren't "needed" anywhere.* They exist because developers have an itch for some feature or bugfix not available in stock - in other words, they have something that improves over stock in some way. Perhaps you should read the feature lists of some WP custom ROMs.
No possible improvements over stock is not a good thing no matter how you spin it. That said, I think the OP is overreacting calling it a "deal-breaker". Well, it depends on what you're looking for in "jailbreaking". This jailbreak feature, for one, won't be available.
*Edit: You know this because the users of custom ROMs are always in the vast minority.
Something that needs improvement is messed up in my books sooo....
Yeh the Op is kinda exaggerating with the deal-breaker though.

As I've just pointed out, improvement is not needed. On the other hand, is improvement improvement? Why, yes.
thebobp said:

Bite your tongue, sir: custom roms are practically necessary for android. Stock ROMs have faulty GPS drivers, crapware, bloatware, SPYWARE even. I have a friend who bought a low end android phone from sprint. Two mistakes: being on sprint and going low end on android. It's getting better, but android is a huge resource hog, and having all the carrier crap on there makes it worse. My friend's phone is quite literally unusable; it locks up very often. Even after I hard reset it for him. On android, stock is [probably] ALWAYS bad.
WP8 however.... I have a custom ROM for my WP7 device, but everything I've done with the custom ROM is natively supported in WP8. So I guess I could live with a stock WP8 ROM. The only thing I'd be missing out on is free tethering.
Carriers, if you charge for tethering... **** you.
^ in your opinion.

Free tethering? My experience tells me that only the Dell Venue Pro is incapable of wi-fi tethering because of the chipset. The carriers have disabled the feature but a lot of phones can be interop unlocked and have the feature enabled. Heck, the Quantum requires little effort since it has an onboard reg edit tool. Google be thy friend.
Amazing! (And incredibly stupid!)
This will eventually flood this forum with unhappy users, wishing to mod their devices...after having seen their cool AOS counter parts.
Nothing to mod it works out of the box. I dont even see a point in current custom roms wp7.5..just few added apps & unlocked for piracy (ok "homebrew")
Hacking is by definition something that should be impossible.
Hacking is based on using some unpredicted exploit to workaround security.
If today we knew that Custom Roms would be going to be possible on WP8 then Microsoft could fix the exploit.
Don't blame Microsoft for this of course, you know most (I did not say every) people wants to unlock their phone to sideload pirated apps.
That's simply the truth. This is what happens all around me on iPhone and Android ecosystem.
Now the real question is : how much interesting (or clever) is speaking about the existence of exploits on something you don't even own/know ?
Articles like the linked one looks nothing more than a big flame to me, and this topic is no different.
P.S. It is really funny to find out some users are particularly attracted by this kind of topic, isn't it?
You realize that the place you're posting to caters to the small percentage of people who want / use any flexibility afforded them, right?
The elegance of a closed system (relatively speaking) is the stability you can accomplish. This is the apple model to a tee, and for most people it's fine.
BUT, flexibility is where windows the traditional OS, Android, and Linux shine. There are always optimizations that can be done, always tweaks, custom apps galore. Android ROMs have spoiled us, masses be dammed.

It has began.
I actually am for Custom ROMs. Sorry, but Devs sometimes just do a better job at things. A Interop Unlocking and Custom ROMs made my Trophy a heck of a lot more enjoyable to use.
And I disagree with all the lock downs MS has in place. Email, messaging clients, browsers, keyboards. We are all stuck with one version. No chance to use versions a Dev could provide that would give us more options and features. Sometimes, Devs just do things better. The MS locked apps I listed, among others, can all be improved upon. Rather than waiting or hoping MS does more to improve them, itd be a lot nicer to have options of 3rd party devs.

So WP8 has a file explorer?

Now that I have WP8 I no longer have custom ROMs, and here's a list of things I'm missing.
-Being able to back up and restore isolated storage (aka game saves and apps with braindamaged devs who don't export to skydrive)
-Setting goddamn custom notification sounds.
-Enabling internet sharing on AT&T
-Bluetooth file transfer for unsupported files
-USB Video out
And the biggest thing was updates to the latest build (7.8), because you either have to wait years to get the stupid thing, or you just never get it. WP8 seems to have solved that issue, but it's a big thing for 7.x
There is significantly more homebrew than apps that can be pirated too... So no, WP8 is not perfect out of the box yet.

IMHO there is stil need for custom roms with WP8. This system for many might need to be changed. For example (I had Lumia 920 but beeing annoyed I've sold it) People Hub. I had Facebook account and LinkedIIn configured and connected with Microsoft Account. Hopefully People Hub allows me to display only those people from my Outlook Account with photos of them from LinkedIn or Facebook. That's good. Where is the problem - mail app which seems not to use People Hub filtering and after I've started writing somebody's email it was trying to suggest me all of the people from my linkedin and facebook. Facebook is a toy for me, email is a tool for work. I dont's wanna havve facebook contacts in my email. What's more - I don't wan't to see non skype contacts on my skype list. How to solve it ? Only custom rom may help with modified People Hub service.

if you're not being sarcastic, and really asking- i'm taking no offense of malice either way, just answering
no, there is no file explorer. this is hotly debated over and over again as to wether its a needed feature or just a 'gimmie' app on other platforms. some even argue that a file explorer on wp8 makes it insecure. whatever.
i'm seeing fewer and fewer posts here on xda pertaining to wp. even the extremely optimistic wpcentral forum is turning a little more 'real' since MWC turned into a nokia-only festival for wp.
anyway, i'm getting sidetracked. hope i answered your question nicely
I've been enjoying Androids customization with flashing and modding for a couple years now, but WP8 has REALLY caught my attention with the amazing hardware and merge with desktops/tablets. But I still can't leave well enough alone, and know I will get the mod bug with a WP8 phone. With that in mind, which new flagship (920, 8X, Ativ S) will have the big development?
It seems like the 920 is the most anticipated, but could be limited by carrier choices. With WP7, it seems like the HTC's have the best dev support. What do you all think?
And as a more general question, what types of noteworthy things are people doing with development/roms on WP7? Is it anything like ROM dev's for Android?
First, wrong forum. Correct forum would be Windows Phone 8 and not Windows 8.
Second, unlike Android, there's no such a thing like "best developer support" in Windows Phone. Apps work on every phone exactly alike.
Third, compared to Android, WP modding/flashing is really pointless. People do it only to bring more features and to get exclusive Nokia apps. Please consider again. Coming from Android world, you would not like WP. It's as closed as iOS and perhaps even more.

Sorry about that...i actually realized i posted in the wrong forum once I backed out, and meant to post in here saying to have a mod close/move it. I joined another thread basically asking the same thing in that forum
Thanks for the rundown. To be honest, I'm actually growing tired of the flashing. Nothing against dev's, but the recent One X/GS3 dev seems to be fairly slow, and mostly consisting of CM10 or porting roms from other devices. It's nice, but nothing revolutionary. I've actually found that with my One X and GS3, i've been more tempted to find a stable rom and stick to it.
Thats why i'm considering WP8. It seems like a very reliable alternative to iOS, yet still some customization/uniqueness to keep things interesting. If what you say is true about development kind of pointless on WP, i will definitely be going with the Nokia.

as a current owner of the one x i'm currently on the same boat. When flashing custom rom i'm looking for something rather stable. Drift away to jelly bean roms and your battery is depleted in less than 2 hours. I will probably be selling my one x on time to buy the lumia 920. If i end up disappointed, well, i'll have to live with it
