Quick z4root question... - Galaxy Tab General

Quick question -
z4root on the Galaxy Tab shows a Temporary Root and Permanent.
As I understand Temporary will be unrooted after a reboot.
Also it seems z4root will unroot a Permanent root.
So its the best to select anyhow, why have both?

Yes you can unroot a "permanent" root, i think the temporary is just for testing purposes.

[Q] Perm root / Visionary.sh

Is it as simple as clicking "perm root" like it was with Universal Androot? Do I need to temp root first?
If I want root access but don't need S-OFF at this point, will this program be enough? For now I just want to remap the genius button, maybe remove some bloatware, and eventually install a recovery so I can flash CM6 when it's ready.
Sorry for the newb quesitons, just don't want to brick my brand new device.
Temproot
You can do this with Temproot

What he said. And, as far as I know, there is no reason to have S=ON and full root access. You really couldn't do anything in that state that you wouldn't be able to do with temp root access, which allows for cached system changes.

[Q] mytouch 4g super user

OK I don't know this but when I temp root with visionary once and I automatically get a super user icon if it worked now when I did that and set the setting turn fastboot off and the usb thing once I did all that and now I can use any application that has root access on it now when I boot my phone and go to use my root apps it says super user granted and I can still use the root Apps and I don't even have to reroot my phone again so now I'm asking do i have root all the time now cuz I don't have to use visionary again to temp root or permanent root do any one have the same thing.
How much does it cost to use punctuation?
I've tried to decipher what you have asked.
I believe you wonder how a temporary root could be acting as if it were permanent. If that is what you wanted to know, the VISIONary application has a setting for "temp root on boot" -- this will give you temporary root every time you boot the phone. If you disable that setting, and reboot, you will not have root access.
Root access alone is not enough to install custom ROMs, but it is enough to use a number of applications that require root access.
Yea sorry not good in explaining things. okay i see now, I'm still new at this but thank you. for clearing that up for me.

[Q] Will using the old Visionary temp root interfere with the OTA?

Hey everyone,
Back when it first came out, I did the Visionary temp root. The only thing I did was disable a bunch of the packages that can't be uninstalled like Facebook and such.
I read the thread about doing permanent root with Visionary causing bricks. I'd like to get clarification as to whether or not my phone is potentially at risk.
I verified that I only did temporary root, as opening a terminal and typing 'su' just yields permission denied.
Thanks in advance!
Just did the manual update and everything is fine for what it's worth
I would love to know if you have any luck with Temp Root now that you have the OTA. I don't want to install the OTA until I know VISIONary can give me Temp Root so I can tether...
temp root with visionary doesnt brick your device so dont worry, its perm root that bricks it
But does it still work? I have Visionary r10 and I don't want to accept the OTA until I know I can still tether... (but of course, I can deal with getting a newer Visionary if it's confirmed to still work with the OTA)
r14 I haven't had luck with

Click to collapse
Temp root gives you all the benefits of rooting until you power off the system (I believe.) If you are not sure if you want to root, temp rooting is a good way to check out what it's like to be rooted.
Permanent rooting is exactly what it says. It roots the Fire and will stay that way until you decide to unroot it, or if Amazon pushes another update that breaks root.

Unrooting a system

I want to know the fastest and simpliest way for temporary unroot my phone?
I need that for some apps, that does not allow rooted phone.
Voodoo does your job!
