[POLL] Rooted 1.6 vs Unrooted 2.1 - XPERIA X8 General

Performance-wise, looks-wise, snappiness-wise, unbrand-factor, etc.
/vote and discuss

Perfomence wise, it is a HUGE improvement from 1.6. The phone runs amazingly smooth, and is a lot of fun to scroll through the menu's because it doens't feel like a struggle anymore.
Visually, it looks amazing. The best looking UI I have seen on a phone, so far (and I mean 'so far').
In terms of unbranding, not so good. I honsetly couldn't believe Sony Ericsson was responsible for all that crap-ware, I thought it was from my provider. But all my provider's stuff was wiped when I updated. So, uhh, what is SE doing? But that isn't much of an issue, when, with ADW.Launcher, you can just create a 'drawer' category and hide all the crap-ware. Pretend it doesn't exist.

As for the lack of root, I can live without it. There are alternatives to almost anything that requires root. But when/if (
) a root does come out, this phone is about to get 10 times better. ;D
Isn't it beutiful? :3

Unfortunatly on 1.6 there is a lack of many important apps. So I claim that newer soft is more important than root, but without root they spoiled our fun.
([email protected])

I voted for root. I really need wifi tethering. Plus i hate the crapware.

I like 2.1. when root is come, i do it. but nothing wrong with me on urooted phone

I vote for my unroot 2.1 X8, but i hope we get ROOT soon.

voted for rooted 1.6 except the unrooted 2.1, the reason is that without root I can not remove all that crappy apps, can not make the backup and tune the framework.. therefore I am staying with rooted 1.6 until root available for 2.1

Votet for 2.1 Unrooted
I like it now
At 1.6 it was just to crappy and i cant use some apps but now hehe
I dont need the Root so mucht but when it comes for 2.1 it's going to be better

Actually it is.
However, you should use LauncherPro, not ADW. LP is way smoother.

i voted for 2.1
but i love 1.6 rooted don't ask me how
but ofcours when 2.1 be rooted will be the top

It sure is, but I can't help feel that LP is just a propriety version of ADW, with a lot of features killed off.

I think 2.1 is better by far. I can live without rooting. After all its android theres an app for pretty much everything. They'll be a way to root it soon enough but theres no rush for now. just do a bit of searching and youll find an app for what you need

FCW
Could you help me out? i've been searching a lot for an app like Barnacle for non-rooted phones. Thanks!

Can you sacrafice the wi-fi tether for a USB tether?

AKTW
Unfortunately i tether my ipod touch. I do not have the luxury of usb.
But thanks anyway!

vote for my rooted 1.6 X8, and waiting for 2.1 root to upgrade~

votet for 2.1 unrooted. I like new things.

has anyone returned to stock with blur?

just wondering..i kinda like how blur looks, i was going to SBF, Root, and deodex but stay with stock moto rom...
anyone? reasons?
Personally, I just don't trust ROMs. No way of verifying security of my info, and seeing as I keep a lot of personal information on my phone, I just don't do it. Also, I use a lot of blue features (like the email...SO much better than Gmail! And K9 seems clunky to me). Not only that, I can theme my current ROM and have it look awesome without having to really mess with my phone a lot. It just isn't worth the hassle for me after I bricked my phone and had to SBF...when my nandroid failed.

What how did you deodex the stock rom? What themes have you used with stock rom?
I did a manual deodex on my system, installed a skinned HTC_IME (black), installed that dark gray status bar mod, and am looking forward to the black Talk app the guys are working on. I have Launcher Pro Plus with 3 widgets stacked on top of each other and the NexusKang live wallpaper.

If you are going to stay with the stock rom- why are you going to SBF? Or do you mean that you are just going to do a factory reset? Just a little confused because you are already on the factory rom- so I am not sure why you would go through all the trouble of using RSDLite and hooking up your phone to the computer and doing the SBF when you can just factory reset your phone and accomplish the very same thing.
I am using a custom rom- but there is nothing wrong with blur. blur is actually pretty high quality stuff in my opinion. Visually i thought it was a fail. But as far as utilizing the hardware and software of the phone- I think it is excellent. It does a lot of great stuff that the custom roms do not incorporate. For instance most custom roms do not incorporate DNLA or the HDMI out - which were both big selling points for the phone.
What you can do with blur- root it. Make yourself a good clean back up and store it a couple of places. then you can either rename the junk you don't like (i.e. NFSShift.apk.bak, vznavigator.apk.bak etc) so it no longer loads up. Or you can remove it all together since you have a back up.
You can theme it.
You can overclock it (I am running 1.3).
People with custom roms boast about how fast they are and then they bust out their quadrant scores. The numbers may look good- but for the vast majority of users- they will notice no difference between a custom rom and the stock blur rom. I can say that bumping up the cpu to 1.3 made a noticeable difference- but you can do that with rooted blur.
just my .02
cheers

Can I Reprogram my Epic 4G?

Can a Samsung Touchwiz phone be reprogrammed to HTC Sense?
Really don't like Touchwiz, and wanted to know if it was possible to reimage, or program the Epic to show up HTC Sense UI?
Kind of wish I kept my EVO 4G.........
There is an HTC Sense rom being worked on, I think.
Sent from my always stock, EC05 Epic 4G
There is a Sense port under way, but I'm not sure you understand the amount of work necessary for this kind of thing...as in it could be months before a functioning Rom is out.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the key issue here is that Sense is a proprietary piece of software unlike Android generally which is open source. So there is no code available for Sense which means someone needs to write this from scratch not just "port" it so it works on the Epic.
Have you tried launcher pro though? It is not as comprehensive an interface as Sense it but it is pretty cool and very flexible and will work on any android phone. Personally I find it does everything I need. I've also heard the Beautiful Widgets gives you a lot of very Sense-like widgets to use on home screens. I believe it is a paid app though, and I haven't tried it myself.
As far as I know, HTC releases the code for Sense with their source code, that's why every AOSP phone has a functional Sense port for it, the problem lies in Samsung's piss poor coding and basically having to rewrite everything.
Download launcherpro and then pay for the Launcher Pro Plus license in the settings. Comes with a bunch of HTC Sense-like widgets and is a great launcher. And you shouldn't have purchased the Epic and given up your evo if you are lamenting your decision over something like a launcher and ignoring or are unaware of the many things the Epic is so much better at.

First off, I like the Epic, The reason why I feel in love with phone was cause of the keyboard. Its a nice phone. I just wish Touchwiz had more customization options. I just prefer the HTC Sense, better after really using both of them. Calm down no one is trying to bash the Epic here........ I will try the launch pro and see how it works........

What do you recommend for a new X5?

Hi guys!
I have an HTC P3451 that I love, but time has come to an upgrade!
I'll buy an Huawei U8800 shortly (hope that's a good deal ) and I'm looking for your expert recommendations for a new user!
What rom? what apps? what settings? what case?
I love my HTC ROM (see below) - is there a similar one for X5?

There is no roms that are even close to it. "What rom? what apps? what settings? what case?"
I would suggest miui or cm7, because they are easy to customize and they are fast. MIUI is more like eyecandy, but there is many miuis right now. Use ret4rds, but if it won't work, use stockwells old. I cant say much from apps, but overclock app most. What do you mean by setting? OC style setting or what? Just use normal powersaving methoids, like turn 3g and wifi off when you don't need them. For case, you should look from this thread in Modaco. and this subforum.
settings, I mean some setup that might be required for saving battery, for example.. nothing special
I'll read a bit about MUIUs
Well, juice defender or app like that, which manages your connections and keeping the clock in 800-1000mhz might be the best batter saver. Also calibrationg battery help. I have found calibration the bes methoid after changing rom.
Honestly DONT get the X5, Huawei dont support it anymore... we've been waiting for a 2.3 update that has never come.
Buy a phone thats actually supported by the company that makes it for more than a month or two after its manufacture.
My X5 is running OK with the Oxygene ROM, but i'd never buy another Huawei again after experiences with this and a previous budget one i got the girlfriend to get her into android (no updates ever came for that as well)
Dont get any Huawei phone...
so what do you suggest on similar prices?

Can we not start 1,000,001 threads about ICS please There is going to be alot of rumours in the comming months, most will prob not be true. I remember when i had a DHD and we was waiting for the GB update. DHD general was packed with threads and threads about every rumour
Sounds terrible, I'll probably stick with Gingerbread if there's no skinned version.
Yea I'm with Androhero why couldn't this just be posted in one of the many other ics threads? I personally could care less its all just rumours until its actually here it does nothing for me just reading about what it could be just let it die already enough is enough

Are you.... serious? I would have thought vanilla would have been everyone's flavour. Imagine, no bloatware off the bat. I would be tempted to go back to stock.
Ugh... the R800x hasn't even been upgrade to 2.3.4... I don't expect any miracles with 4.0 unless SE & VZW get their act straight with this newer release.
If I believed everything I read off twitter...............

All Android stock interfaces until Honeycomb are terribly bland. While Google has been improving their UI, other developers (both corporate and Indie) have not kept the same pace. While everyone was desperate to get the stock Froyo launcher out of their lives, now with ICS people want to have it instead of their stock one.
I'm just looking forward to the native hardware acceleration, so the UI runs more smoothly. Everything else is great about this device with 2.3.4 installed.

I second that. The only thing I'm looking forward to is hardware acceleration as Android little lags annoys the hell out of me and does not make for a nice user experience. I'm happy either way, if they release an unskinned version or put their UI (most likely) on top of it as I really like the SE launcher.
I honestly don't mind if they use their own UI as I love it or use Vanilla, I love Vanilla ICS, Bloatware is not a big issue for me I don't care I just Freeze it.

Does it really worth rooting?

I had s3 & s5 before and i really enjoyed these devices after rooting them
My question is does rooting note 5 worth tripping my knox
Does battery life become better or worse?
Please advice

Don't you ever do it , i've done it and i'm crying and i regret that i've done it
I used to root more to try to make my devices faster, and in the early days - to use certain apps - like screenshot apps which needed root. Nowadays the phones are plenty fast, and there are tons of apps, for all sorts of needs, which don't require root of course.
I'm busier than I used to be, so I don't flash as much as I used to, and the phones aren't the hobbies they used to be.
But if you are new to customizing, rooting, etc. and you like to tinker, especially when or if you don't care about anything going wrong, then rooting is good fun to try and do. It becomes addictive flashing all sorts of ROMs for free, too.
Just be sure to use the correct network settings so there are no complications with data fees.
It's harder to screw that up nowadays, but I learned the hard way back in about 2008.
Anyway, go on..
You know you want to..
depend on your needs.
I was nexus user before root is a must. to gain more battery life and performance. some customization is a bonus.
but when I have note5, I think this phone doesn't need root to achieve it.
also in mu country there is some feature called galaxy gift which gives lot of freebies everyday lol .
First device I've not rooted, now that we have Android Pay in the UK don't want to lose the functionalities. Use to root mainly to get rid of ads but AdGuard does a good job on non rooted devices. Enjoying the device without root using AdGuard and Package Disabler.
Sent from my SM-N920C using Tapatalk
Well for me? Yeah. It unlocks the very potential of android which is customization and how you want your phone to be. It actually depends on you if youre fine with stock or not. But i suggest go for it. There are allots of great roms and custom kernels for the note 5 go try them out.
I can not think of having Note 5 without root
