Can a Samsung Touchwiz phone be reprogrammed to HTC Sense?
Really don't like Touchwiz, and wanted to know if it was possible to reimage, or program the Epic to show up HTC Sense UI?
Kind of wish I kept my EVO 4G.........
There is an HTC Sense rom being worked on, I think.

There is a Sense port under way, but I'm not sure you understand the amount of work necessary for this kind of thing...as in it could be months before a functioning Rom is out.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the key issue here is that Sense is a proprietary piece of software unlike Android generally which is open source. So there is no code available for Sense which means someone needs to write this from scratch not just "port" it so it works on the Epic.
Have you tried launcher pro though? It is not as comprehensive an interface as Sense it but it is pretty cool and very flexible and will work on any android phone. Personally I find it does everything I need. I've also heard the Beautiful Widgets gives you a lot of very Sense-like widgets to use on home screens. I believe it is a paid app though, and I haven't tried it myself.
As far as I know, HTC releases the code for Sense with their source code, that's why every AOSP phone has a functional Sense port for it, the problem lies in Samsung's piss poor coding and basically having to rewrite everything.
Download launcherpro and then pay for the Launcher Pro Plus license in the settings. Comes with a bunch of HTC Sense-like widgets and is a great launcher. And you shouldn't have purchased the Epic and given up your evo if you are lamenting your decision over something like a launcher and ignoring or are unaware of the many things the Epic is so much better at.

First off, I like the Epic, The reason why I feel in love with phone was cause of the keyboard. Its a nice phone. I just wish Touchwiz had more customization options. I just prefer the HTC Sense, better after really using both of them. Calm down no one is trying to bash the Epic here........ I will try the launch pro and see how it works........

As the subject reads, I would love miui with stock icons. I know some of you may not agree, but people say that my phone looks a lot like an iphone at work when I show it off running miui. That's not a bad thing, I personally don't like it though. Anyway, if someone could come out with a "stock" theme (or whatever your want to call it) then that would be amazing.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
You could just use LauncherPro or a similar dock. The icons will still have the colored box around them, but they will be much smaller. Obviously the four big icons at the bottom will be gone as well.
That's the thing though, I like miui's launcher, but I don't the icons. I don't like their blocky-ness, if that makes much sense.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I agree. The icons blockiness and the fact the app icons can't go into a "drawer" are the only reasons I went back to Virtuous.
+1000000000
No app drawer
No android stock Icons
Despite the fact that this MIUI Rom is awesome, those 2 things made me going back to my old android stock ROM.
And what is the interest to put an alternative launcher since if you put a launcher (LauncherPro, Zeam,..) You lose the MIUI advantages...
They should considerate that app drawer (and putting app in that drawer) is (in a ergonomic point of view) is the best thing ... Since Day 1 there's a "menu" in every phone, and seeing all my apps on the homescreen is a little bit ... disappointing me !

The closer and closer we get to the Unpacked event we get to see their sweets. Either way the UI is nice and I hope they changed the media player and Music
I found this about a half hour ago, saying that and Samsung are going to postpone http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...d-Google-cancel-Nexus-Prime-phone-launch.html unpacked.
Saw the video and I really really like the UI a lot!! Hopefully the prime will go to tmobile in December or even January, hope it does.... I prefer this because it will be the latest and the greatest smartphone with its non-capacitive button design and latest OS..
if that's real, it looks alright. though, i'm surprised at kernel 3.0.1. the switch to 3.0 was just over two months ago, so it would surprise me to see it on android already (considering Ubuntu is still on 2.6.38 and Fedora is using 2.6.40, i would think the full linux distros would be changing the kernel version to 3.0 before android).
Hopefully with Google improving Androids UI, less manufacturers would mess with it.
^^ the manufacturers will always have their own signature of android launcher to differentiate their devices from the rest.. I don't mind it at all as long as they make the UI better and add useful functionality into it..
Is ICS gonna be 2.4 or 4.0?
I just wish that manufacturers would make their launcher work like any other third party launcher instead of integrating it like they do.

If it's a straight Google phone, won't the launcher be ICS stock?
Just something I noticed. Where is the "battery use "in the settings?

I think the fonts are better than current Android versions, but I'm not that impressed.
It's still asking for OEMs to molest it, as well, which is unfortunate.
Not enthused.

Sounds terrible, I'll probably stick with Gingerbread if there's no skinned version.
Yea I'm with Androhero why couldn't this just be posted in one of the many other ics threads? I personally could care less its all just rumours until its actually here it does nothing for me just reading about what it could be just let it die already enough is enough

Are you.... serious? I would have thought vanilla would have been everyone's flavour. Imagine, no bloatware off the bat. I would be tempted to go back to stock.
Ugh... the R800x hasn't even been upgrade to 2.3.4... I don't expect any miracles with 4.0 unless SE & VZW get their act straight with this newer release.
If I believed everything I read off twitter...............

All Android stock interfaces until Honeycomb are terribly bland. While Google has been improving their UI, other developers (both corporate and Indie) have not kept the same pace. While everyone was desperate to get the stock Froyo launcher out of their lives, now with ICS people want to have it instead of their stock one.
I'm just looking forward to the native hardware acceleration, so the UI runs more smoothly. Everything else is great about this device with 2.3.4 installed.

I second that. The only thing I'm looking forward to is hardware acceleration as Android little lags annoys the hell out of me and does not make for a nice user experience. I'm happy either way, if they release an unskinned version or put their UI (most likely) on top of it as I really like the SE launcher.
I honestly don't mind if they use their own UI as I love it or use Vanilla, I love Vanilla ICS, Bloatware is not a big issue for me I don't care I just Freeze it.
Don't you think touchwiz for SGSIII looks like ugly as hell? It looks like pre-honeycomb, anyway my questions is; can I change the entire look of touchwiz, but keep it's functionality...? if so, how easy is it?
I've used an iPhone the past 3 years but have seen the light and preordered an S3 but the whole nature thing is bugging the hell out of me, it should look more like the Google Nexus (which has the "holo" theme I believe")
Just install a new launcher. Apex will make it look just like a Nexus.

On iOS Jailbreak you could install something called Winterboard which allowed for every aspect of the UI to be customised... is this possible on android while keeping functionality intact?

As far as every aspect (notification bar, text color, etc.) you will need a custom rom with framework modified. I'm betting there will be tons and you will be happy. With the launchers, all you will get is an overlay of the home screen ui basically. Icons and such will be able to be modified though with a different launcher. There are tons of launchers to replace touchwiz. I don't think you will be disappointed

The theming on ios (to me) just looks bad.. On android developers and themers make great themes that are easily flashed through cwm and most of them are awesome.. You wont be dissapointed
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Also as mentioned home replacement is another easy option.
There are many that aren't just stock ICS layout, but those such as SPB shell 3D which will change a lot of the layout, whereas others such as go launcher will actually have many different theming options available.
As always its entirely down to preference. No one can tell you what the best one is. Who knows, you may even like the be touchwiz!!
Personally I prefer the Touchwiz icons over stock Android icons. Google isn't very good at all at creating anything that is pleasing visually -- including stock ICS.
You know you can remove the widgets if you don't like them and use other launchers. I use Nova Launcher with Touchwiz icons. I am sure I will do the same on my GS III once it arrives.
