just wondering..i kinda like how blur looks, i was going to SBF, Root, and deodex but stay with stock moto rom...
anyone? reasons?
Personally, I just don't trust ROMs. No way of verifying security of my info, and seeing as I keep a lot of personal information on my phone, I just don't do it. Also, I use a lot of blue features (like the email...SO much better than Gmail! And K9 seems clunky to me). Not only that, I can theme my current ROM and have it look awesome without having to really mess with my phone a lot. It just isn't worth the hassle for me after I bricked my phone and had to SBF...when my nandroid failed.

What how did you deodex the stock rom? What themes have you used with stock rom?
I did a manual deodex on my system, installed a skinned HTC_IME (black), installed that dark gray status bar mod, and am looking forward to the black Talk app the guys are working on. I have Launcher Pro Plus with 3 widgets stacked on top of each other and the NexusKang live wallpaper.

If you are going to stay with the stock rom- why are you going to SBF? Or do you mean that you are just going to do a factory reset? Just a little confused because you are already on the factory rom- so I am not sure why you would go through all the trouble of using RSDLite and hooking up your phone to the computer and doing the SBF when you can just factory reset your phone and accomplish the very same thing.
I am using a custom rom- but there is nothing wrong with blur. blur is actually pretty high quality stuff in my opinion. Visually i thought it was a fail. But as far as utilizing the hardware and software of the phone- I think it is excellent. It does a lot of great stuff that the custom roms do not incorporate. For instance most custom roms do not incorporate DNLA or the HDMI out - which were both big selling points for the phone.
What you can do with blur- root it. Make yourself a good clean back up and store it a couple of places. then you can either rename the junk you don't like (i.e. NFSShift.apk.bak, vznavigator.apk.bak etc) so it no longer loads up. Or you can remove it all together since you have a back up.
You can theme it.
You can overclock it (I am running 1.3).
People with custom roms boast about how fast they are and then they bust out their quadrant scores. The numbers may look good- but for the vast majority of users- they will notice no difference between a custom rom and the stock blur rom. I can say that bumping up the cpu to 1.3 made a noticeable difference- but you can do that with rooted blur.
just my .02

I posted this thread just because i am kinda disappointed with HD2 rom selection, as i am hardcore rom flasher. Don't get me wrong, i like all chefs and i'm not taking sides. If you don't like the thread don't flame me, but u can report it to be deleted if you wish. Otherwise read on
As comparison i took roms of my previous phone, Samsung Omnia. If you look at their thread http://www.modaco.com/category/368/i900-general-omnia-rom-discussion/ you can well enough see that after 2.5 years rom development is still kicking!
Every chef shows alot of dedication to rom, they build up their own interfaces, new looks etc. Every rom is unique, and i'm afraid we don't have this with HD2.
And yes, i know about dinik, but if there are more people using it then stock, it isn't as unique, don't u think...
In short summary, i'd just want to see some more young enthusiastic chefs (like sanjeev, maybe) so not every rom thread goes: ...sense 2016 CFC'd..GTX/Black..dinik iconset...
you can also post your experience or prove me wrong sorry to waste 3min of your life..
edit: will try to post some pictures to prove my point

Maybe you make your own ROM to share with us and give us a better choice?
Not sure i entireley agree with you.
Most chefs actually think about the user more than you probably think. So by providing a really fast, yet stock looking rom, you, the user, can add your own customisations that you deem necessary.
However, when you are talking about everybody using the same customisations, it's also down to the user. For example, im sure many of you use Dinik's icons/mods etc. So if it was built into the rom, it would be ready out of the box. No need to install all of the mods over and over again.
I dont think they're not being innovative, but infact providing what you need. I would be gutted if i spent a hell of a lot of time making a whole theme for my phone, only to realise people complain about it or just install other mods over it.

actually, i tried, but it turned out to be crap xD slow and laggy.
again, i'm not dissin' anyone, just saying! i like rom chefs a lot, and i know how much job gets into making a proper rom-as i said i tried and failed miserbly.
and i didn't mention i heavily customize almost every rom i try, unless it has something new to try. It's nice to build up your own config, but hey, sometimes it feels really nice to see someone stand out (as dinik did in beginning, and then GTX -and now mostly everyone likes these)
well i better shut up now i guess
As the subject reads, I would love miui with stock icons. I know some of you may not agree, but people say that my phone looks a lot like an iphone at work when I show it off running miui. That's not a bad thing, I personally don't like it though. Anyway, if someone could come out with a "stock" theme (or whatever your want to call it) then that would be amazing.

You could just use LauncherPro or a similar dock. The icons will still have the colored box around them, but they will be much smaller. Obviously the four big icons at the bottom will be gone as well.
That's the thing though, I like miui's launcher, but I don't the icons. I don't like their blocky-ness, if that makes much sense.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I agree. The icons blockiness and the fact the app icons can't go into a "drawer" are the only reasons I went back to Virtuous.
+1000000000
No app drawer
No android stock Icons
Despite the fact that this MIUI Rom is awesome, those 2 things made me going back to my old android stock ROM.
And what is the interest to put an alternative launcher since if you put a launcher (LauncherPro, Zeam,..) You lose the MIUI advantages...
They should considerate that app drawer (and putting app in that drawer) is (in a ergonomic point of view) is the best thing ... Since Day 1 there's a "menu" in every phone, and seeing all my apps on the homescreen is a little bit ... disappointing me !

There's a theme in the online theme section called Android2.3 that will give you the stock icons

Check miui.us for themes. I can't remember which one it is but the icons are called Normal Android.

Performance-wise, looks-wise, snappiness-wise, unbrand-factor, etc.
/vote and discuss
Perfomence wise, it is a HUGE improvement from 1.6. The phone runs amazingly smooth, and is a lot of fun to scroll through the menu's because it doens't feel like a struggle anymore.
Visually, it looks amazing. The best looking UI I have seen on a phone, so far (and I mean 'so far').
In terms of unbranding, not so good. I honsetly couldn't believe Sony Ericsson was responsible for all that crap-ware, I thought it was from my provider. But all my provider's stuff was wiped when I updated. So, uhh, what is SE doing? But that isn't much of an issue, when, with ADW.Launcher, you can just create a 'drawer' category and hide all the crap-ware. Pretend it doesn't exist.

As for the lack of root, I can live without it. There are alternatives to almost anything that requires root. But when/if (
) a root does come out, this phone is about to get 10 times better. ;D
Isn't it beutiful? :3
Unfortunatly on 1.6 there is a lack of many important apps. So I claim that newer soft is more important than root, but without root they spoiled our fun.
([email protected])
I voted for root. I really need wifi tethering. Plus i hate the crapware.
I like 2.1. when root is come, i do it. but nothing wrong with me on urooted phone
I vote for my unroot 2.1 X8, but i hope we get ROOT soon.
voted for rooted 1.6 except the unrooted 2.1, the reason is that without root I can not remove all that crappy apps, can not make the backup and tune the framework.. therefore I am staying with rooted 1.6 until root available for 2.1
Votet for 2.1 Unrooted
I like it now
At 1.6 it was just to crappy and i cant use some apps but now hehe
I dont need the Root so mucht but when it comes for 2.1 it's going to be better

Actually it is.
However, you should use LauncherPro, not ADW. LP is way smoother.
i voted for 2.1
but i love 1.6 rooted don't ask me how
but ofcours when 2.1 be rooted will be the top

It sure is, but I can't help feel that LP is just a propriety version of ADW, with a lot of features killed off.
I think 2.1 is better by far. I can live without rooting. After all its android theres an app for pretty much everything. They'll be a way to root it soon enough but theres no rush for now. just do a bit of searching and youll find an app for what you need
FCW
Could you help me out? i've been searching a lot for an app like Barnacle for non-rooted phones. Thanks!
Can you sacrafice the wi-fi tether for a USB tether?
AKTW
Unfortunately i tether my ipod touch. I do not have the luxury of usb.
But thanks anyway!
vote for my rooted 1.6 X8, and waiting for 2.1 root to upgrade~
votet for 2.1 unrooted. I like new things.
Hi guys!
I have an HTC P3451 that I love, but time has come to an upgrade!
I'll buy an Huawei U8800 shortly (hope that's a good deal ) and I'm looking for your expert recommendations for a new user!
What rom? what apps? what settings? what case?
I love my HTC ROM (see below) - is there a similar one for X5?

There is no roms that are even close to it. "What rom? what apps? what settings? what case?"
I would suggest miui or cm7, because they are easy to customize and they are fast. MIUI is more like eyecandy, but there is many miuis right now. Use ret4rds, but if it won't work, use stockwells old. I cant say much from apps, but overclock app most. What do you mean by setting? OC style setting or what? Just use normal powersaving methoids, like turn 3g and wifi off when you don't need them. For case, you should look from this thread in Modaco. and this subforum.
settings, I mean some setup that might be required for saving battery, for example.. nothing special
I'll read a bit about MUIUs
Well, juice defender or app like that, which manages your connections and keeping the clock in 800-1000mhz might be the best batter saver. Also calibrationg battery help. I have found calibration the bes methoid after changing rom.
Honestly DONT get the X5, Huawei dont support it anymore... we've been waiting for a 2.3 update that has never come.
Buy a phone thats actually supported by the company that makes it for more than a month or two after its manufacture.
My X5 is running OK with the Oxygene ROM, but i'd never buy another Huawei again after experiences with this and a previous budget one i got the girlfriend to get her into android (no updates ever came for that as well)
Dont get any Huawei phone...
so what do you suggest on similar prices?

u can try motorola defy ( not defy + bec defy defy plus charges extra bucks only for battery). my friend is using defy since 5-6 months and is quite satisfied . almost same to x5 but has gorilla glass and is water proof. also note that defy has really great support from devs ( i mean awsm support - lots n lots of roms )
Hello,
I am new to Evo 4G. Mine came with Android 2.3.5 which may be the latest official ROM for this phone. Before I start trying out different ROMS, I thought I'd ask for some recommendations.
I usually prefer the stock Android look and feel. But it seems like there isn't a CM10 release for this phone that is stable. For example the one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785498 appears to not support either of the cameras. This is not a huge deal breaker but a bit of a bummer.
Additionally I would love to save the screen real estate by keeping the capacitive buttons at the bottom of the phone functional. Is there a modern ROM that uses those buttons instead of giving up screen space to new virtual buttons? This one is kinda important to me.
Thanks.
Decks reloaded is an unbelivable rom, with all the sparks and whistles its cm based, but runs 10x better than any new phone could posibly I flashed every week until I found this rim its been my daily since may, thats saying a lot, and everytime I flash another rom, I just go back, no errors at all just follow directions, everything is perfect on flash, its under original development, happy flashing I'm sure you'll love it
