Got a really strange wifi problem. I had android running for a couple days on my HD2, then my brother decided to load android on his HD2, now if we're both have wifi on in android it goes really slow and disconnects all the time.
But if we're in windows its fine.
I even changed all the roms on my phone (WM and Android) but the problem remains.
One phone is running Energy Rom and Clean Sense Android Rom
Second phone is running Artemis and Clean Sense Android Rom
Both phones have the latest Radio
Thanks
Most Android ROMs (if not all) use a hard-coded value for the MAC address for your wifi card, which is how your router identifies each device. Because you're using the same ROM, you're probably using the same MAC address. The problem won't occur if one or both of you are running Windows, since the card's real MAC address will be used.
You can check this by going to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Menu -> Advanced and comparing the MAC address of each device.
If you are using the same MAC address then this problem will always occur. Either use different Android builds, or find out how you can change the MAC address. I have seen one build, a while ago, that actually came with instructions on how to set the MAC address, but I think it was specific to that particular build. I don't know if you can do it on any other.
Hope this helps mate.
Thanks mate, Ill have a look.
What a coincidence, I live in Northampton also
As long as you're not trying to use my wifi lol
haha, I wont.
I just checked the MAC addresses were the same.
Ill load a different android build on mine and see if it works.
Thanks again
There's a couple of builds that let you change MAC address in the startup.txt as well.
And I'm just down the road from Northampton lol, small world!
Thanks,
Do you know which builds allow me to do that?
Ive just loaded a different version of android and I get the same MAC address.
Edit: Isit that part that says edit CMDline?
Edit 2: It was that CMDline part.
Thanks for all the help Northamptonshire ftw lol
Just done a (very) quick search and the only build I could find that appear to support it was NexusHD2-FRG83 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793924
But I'm sure I read a couple of others that do from a while ago.

I just got this phone (HTC Wizard/MDA VArio) as a free upgrade and I spent hours last night trying to hook them both up so I can simply transfer files from one to the other. I couldn't get them to link.
Are they compatable in terms of just transfering files? I was hoping to sync the address book, calender, etc
I have done a search on this forum for things relating to Macs but I'm a bit confused with some of the topics. As you can see I'm a total novice and not very technical so I was wandering if anyone can help me out in terms of easy straightforward answers?
I'm quite familiar with Macs but I've never used PC's/windows before so if I don't get any help I may need to return this phone
Cheers in advance
To my knowledge there is not presently a way to sync the MDA with a Mac, unless of course, you have an Intel-based Mac and Bootcamp installed with a copy of XP.
In time Pocket Mac or the Missing Sync will have a menas of syncing them.
Up to this point I've been transfering my phonebook via bluetooth a few contacts at a time. This is only a temporary measure and a poor one at that.

Don't panic. The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 5 is worth looking at. It is at alpha version 9 as of this message, and it will allow you to at least get the address book to your phone. That is a huge help.

You can use Bluetooth to send and receive files... it works like a champ... though I'm on the Cingular 8125, so ymmv.
You can send CAB files via Bluetooth to install software. Some silly developers distribute .exe files, and those require some special attention (Open them in VPC, the find the CABs and send the from the Mac via Bluetooth. )
Anyway, don't send it back just yet! We're close.

Have you used Missing Sync? I have not but have heard mixed reviews -- most leaning on the negative.
I've used PocketMac and early versions messed up my address book beyond repair. In all fairness that was the original release version. More recent versions have worked perfectly.
Regardless, neither PM or MS have Windows Mobile 5 support as a stable product at this point.

I'm using Missing Sync 2.5a9 now... the alpha version, with my Cingular 8125. I'm giving it some leeway, it is alpha after all. My address book, calendar data, and tasks are all in tact.
I have no experience with PocketMac, so I can't speak to your experience with it.
that sounds promising. do you need a copy of missing sync to get the alpha?

Yes, and I took the risk ;-) Just be sure to read the mailing list archives before you plunk down the cash... the process is much better with a9, but it still isn't perfect.
The bottom line though is that I have all of my data on my 8125... and that rocks.
hmmmmmm....
so, on your report, i purchased missing sync. the v.2 version installed without issue. i then upgraded to the alpha and now the app won't start up -- it pops up on my screen then disappears. did you have that problem?
i've been perusing the support pages but can't find a solution.
i should rephrase that...the app starts up then quits, as in dead.
looking through their site i must say they have the worst documentation i've seen in recent years.
i've tried dumping the plist files and that doesn't seem to help.

Interesting. I did not have that problem... and I don't remember that being an issue at all on the alpha mailing list. Here are the archives:

Hi
i am having a problem with browing any website on my PPC, the problem is that when i try to open any webpage it stalls on 1kb and it only opens the page partially.
I read another post and they managed to solve this by selecting the correct encoding which was Western European. is there any other possible reasons why this type of behaviour will be experienced on the device?
hope te hear from the superior knowledge of the forum members.

I had that problem when I used one of the custom roms. When I flashed the stock t-mobile ROM, it went away almost completely. Once in a great while it'll happen but I'm talking like twice since going with a stock rom. Couldn't tell you what the difference was as the stock rom performance was fine and I didn't really care enough to look into it further.

I'm pretty sure it's a connection issue (I've had similar problems with, say, non-CrEme 4.1 + Toonel pre .54 combinations - see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/ConfigureToonel45.asp for more info).
BTW, what ROM do you have?
MTU settings could it be the reason ??
Hi
Just to let you no, recently i travelled to another country and i decided to get a sim card and test my device in this country, surprisingly it worked fine i could browse with no problems.
only from in my country on my network do i get this strange behaviour.
Do u think its related to the MTU settings ? if i adjust this then mayb it will allow me to browse, judging from your response i noticed that this option that you suggested is to reduce bandwidth usage therefore allowing to view pages faster.
Thanks kindly
reo
Yeah, this seems to be a problem with your wireless operator. (You could still give a try to it in a, say, inexpensive, GPRS-capable "dumb" phone like the S-E t68i / t610 connected to your PDA / notebook)

You can surely give a try to Toonel (I've BTW linked in Toonel because, under WM5, the (old) Java version has exactly the same problems with old(er) Java environments - I've elaborated on this problem a lot in my articles. That is, the problem was similar to that of yours).
thanks for your help it is most informative, i am currently loading the toonel to test and i will post my results here.

setup using newer versions of the program, i hope it does not create an incorrect behviour.
setup toonel have just a quick query
Hi
i have managed to setup toonel version .50, using creme 4.21. i have pIE and this all on a WM5 OS.
i did not utilise the link i just executed directly from the toonel.jar file.
now it is running but i would like to just clearify that i done it correctly.
about the connections i used the method u suggested and created a new connection under the top selection which is used for programs to connect directly to the internet and named it toonel, and made all the adjustments on proxy, i also put the details of the modem which is the GPRS connection for my country.
now i am ready to use.
i have a question about the tab in Toonel called WEB, is there any setting that i should have setup in here, it has a an option called Parent Proxy address.
Regards
reo
HI
ok, i had to reset the device for things to start working properly.
now i hve to use the link, it doesnt set creme as the default JVM. so after i execute i get an error saying **cant find class client.WebUI
im sure there it is a path issue, but not sure about where is the web.ui
reo
Don't struggle with the Java version - use the new PPC-based one. See http://pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/ConfigureToonel54.asp .
(Sorry, I've linked in the older Java version because it produced exactly the same symptomps under WM5 as yoour case, not because it's the Toonel version I recommend for you.)
hi
ok, i see. the behaviour i am experincing you noticed it using Toonel java version.
have you get any ideas what could be causing my problem ?
Now we no that it is probably a problem at my network, however is there any way to over come this ?
i actually noticed 1 thing, Magician S100 QTEK works on my network properly!!
any ideas what could be the difference ?
what are the chances that it is related to the UAProfile ? if so how could it effect the browsing ?

no luck with toonnel with "unlimited internet tzones"
now that tzones offers "unlimited internet" ( http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2006/12/got_tmobile_tzo.html ) I tried to use toonel with my wizard to speed up the connexion but didn't have any chance ... I tried the 3 versions on http://toonel.net/downloads.html (I even installed the Creme JVM) though ... some ports must still be closed ...
any idea/comment anybody ?
PS :
the good thing with "tzones unlimited internet" is that I can now use opera mini, gmail java, google maps java, etc ...
i had the same problem with uk tmobile. i called them and they said it would be fixed soon-and a few days later it was!!
maybe call your network provider before messing with your phone settings

Hi,
I've used Juicy's ROMs (v1.08) and MSR 1.1 and both of them do not permit SSH input.
I've tried both pocketputty and Pragma VT, and nothing works. I can't pass any ls or any command after logging in (Pragma VT passes username and password through application, so that atleast let's me log in).
I think this is an underlying problem and not a ROM issue, can someone please help me figure this out?
Thanks!
---
Solution:
Thanks to jxent for pointing me in the right direction.
Basically, it's not the software's fault or any ROM's fault. What matters is the input type you use.
Full qwerty and compact qwerty just don't work on here. The trick is to use the "keyboard" input method and then you're golden.
Good luck, and thanks for everyone else who banged their head for me, including but not limited to Juicy, Mightymike, Juggalo_X and others.
I'm using the GFTC kitchen from ppcgeeks, and ssh with putty works fine. I'm using the stock kitchen with a couple apps added and some preset phone settings.

Weird, cuz both the ROMS I've used are off the GFTC kitchen.
I've again tried with pocketputty, to nogo. Currently using MSR 1.1.
Devileyez, can you try my 2.4.1 ROM when it goes up tonight?
I want to know if the issue is resolved.
Why do you need SSH input btw?

I'll try it out over the weekend and let you know.
I'm a telus diamond owner and have used pocketputty on the stock ROM, as well as several versions of Juicy (I'm currently on 2.2). It has always worked for me, using both password and private/public key authentication.
*However*, I've noticed that it typically takes over 90 seconds to reach the login prompt. For whatever reason, I can lower that time to about 15 seconds if I repeatedly bang on the enter key after pressing "Open".
In answer to Carty's question, I use it to securely tunnel remote desktop connections.

Ofcourse. You actually helped pitch in with the others who said it works on Juicy 2.4*. So, I've decided to wait for a 2.* version that has no data speed problems and battery drain issues (like everyone on 2.4.1 seems to complain about) and I will flash that one.

there are no battery drain issues or speed problems on 2.4.1
I mentioned I had some issues with speed, but I was playing around with PRL, and a hard reset fixed it.
Well, Juicy's 2.5 don't fix it and neither does MSR1.2. Gonna try GFTC Kitchen 1.04 now.
SSH using Pragma VT or PocketPutty doesn't work. I'm able to login via PragmaVT because, as stated before, it passes login credentials from the program itself.
Make that GFTC 1.05 ROM.
Ok, nope. Doesn't work anywhere.
The only place left to try is TELUS stock ROM. This is the weirdest thing ever.
Solution posted on first post.

Firstly, i have to ask why would you want to do something like that? it can't be for anything good.
Secondly, no you can't mac address' are individual to any one device, they are all registered and embedded on the controller chip. That is why mac address filtering is so effective and mac address spoofing would be th only way to circumvent it.
So stop being a naughty boy and go chase some girls or something!

That's a completely different thing. The OP is asking how to change it in Windows, and I agree with M3PH, that it's obviously for something naughty.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but I've never heard of it being done in Windows (not EVERYTHING is in the registry!) The only time I've heard of it is with Android builds. Maybe that would be an answer for the OP.
Hello guys,
since i have Android on my phone (first i had SD solutions, now i got the NAND solution),
i can't access my GPS (phone finds no satelite).
I was wondering why this happens to my phone, since others have no problem.
But ok, i searched a bit in this forum and i found that the solution might be to edit the GPS settings to port com4 and 256000 rate.
I was also looking how i can change this, but i found nothing.
Can you help me?
Information about my phone:
HTC HD2 (Ger)
Radio 2.15.50.14
Android 2.3.1 (NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.0 NAND)
Maybe you know a better solution than changing GPS settings,
but thats what i want to try now, if i knew where i have to do this.
Thank you.

My GPS is working, really, not just getting a fix from A-GPS. You can see what i am using in my sig.
My nav program is working - navigating, though i must say the program itself is much worse than in what i used in WinMo.
So, what is the problem?
I know at least 2 more builds with a working GPS that i've tested myself.
I just know that i had to edit my com Port and my baudrate at windows mobile also.
Maybe i have a strange version, i dont know. But i know the normal win mo hadnt a working gps for me too, so i had to edit it on my own.
Thats what i wanna do now on Android, but i can't find the settings.

I really doubt this will help, but why don't you check the settings of your nav program for this edit.
I don't know where to edit the system in android for these settings, sorry.
There is a fix with editing gps.conf file and it actualy worked for me, it downloads A-GPS data
why don't you try this and then move to the harder part?
1. Use file explorer capable of editing system files to edit the file /system/etc/gps.conf (I use Root Explorer but unfortunately this is paid software; not tried with free version of Astro or ES, and it is possible that they can work too.)
2. Make sure that the bit after "NTP_SERVER=" goes with your location. I believe that as provided, it's "north-america.pool.ntp.org". If you live outside North America, as I do, edit to the appropriate server--as listed at the NTP POOL PROJECT (google for that).
and get GPS Status to reset the GPS itself, this might help!?
Thank you,
but there are no changes.
GPS Status shows 0 for both and another Tool (GPS Fix) trys to locate me, but also can't do it.
I got same trouble.
May be it deal with hd2 version - I got tmobile tmous.
I try many roms (desire hd port, 2.3 and 2.2 other ver.) - same trouble, gps status program can not see satelites.

Hi IMS1407
what a hazzle that was.
I have an HTC HD2 / Leo that i purchased a year ago. I started playing with Android about a month ago and have successfully installed several nand from Froyo and Gingerbread. With all of them i had the GPS problem not being able to see any satelites. I purchased GPS Doctor and tried some other so called GPS Fixes, but NONE of them worked. I finally came accross your post and tried the editing of the gps.conf file. I got me Root Explorer and edited the gps.conf file by simply adding below the line
NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.asia.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.asia.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.asia.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.asia.pool.ntp.org
I saved the file and God and Behold I had a Fix within seconds verified by GPS Aids and GPS Status APP.

I also have a gps problem with my hd2 t-mobile but it doesn't have anything to do with gingerbread. Specifically, if the phone get a little warm, gps stops responding. I don't get any errors like not finding the gps but no satellites. Problem exists in NexusHD 4.0.4 which I'm running from native sd and in windows mobile. if I reboot the phone and go straight to wm and run a gps test no satellites. If I shut down the phone and turn it on immediately no satellites. If I shutdown and let it cool down or force it to cool down (lay in on an Icepack) It works (until it warms up again) than nothing. If I cool it down without restarting (lay it on the icepack) it doesn't come back. I already suspect the worst but still asking. In any case I've got a globalsat external bluetooth gps which is far more accurate than the internal gps I was just hoping on avoiding using it in inconvinient situations. I currently have two hd2's one of which is a t-mobile and I don't think I'm going to go in the HTC direction again. Samsung seems to be looking good.
