[Q] How can i fix my GPS problem? (HTC HD2 Android) - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello guys,
since i have Android on my phone (first i had SD solutions, now i got the NAND solution),
i can't access my GPS (phone finds no satelite).
I was wondering why this happens to my phone, since others have no problem.
But ok, i searched a bit in this forum and i found that the solution might be to edit the GPS settings to port com4 and 256000 rate.
I was also looking how i can change this, but i found nothing.
Can you help me?
Information about my phone:
HTC HD2 (Ger)
Radio 2.15.50.14
Android 2.3.1 (NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.0 NAND)
Maybe you know a better solution than changing GPS settings,
but thats what i want to try now, if i knew where i have to do this.
Thank you.

There is a whole thread for your case, really!
Go and read the last pages, someone found a fix that is working for Gingerbread devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900631
This is all i can do for you.

I Know this fix and it's already done, but no changes.
As I said, it was on ANY Android ROM (not only the Gingerbread)

My GPS is working, really, not just getting a fix from A-GPS. You can see what i am using in my sig.
My nav program is working - navigating, though i must say the program itself is much worse than in what i used in WinMo.
So, what is the problem?
I know at least 2 more builds with a working GPS that i've tested myself.

I just know that i had to edit my com Port and my baudrate at windows mobile also.
Maybe i have a strange version, i dont know. But i know the normal win mo hadnt a working gps for me too, so i had to edit it on my own.
Thats what i wanna do now on Android, but i can't find the settings.

I really doubt this will help, but why don't you check the settings of your nav program for this edit.
I don't know where to edit the system in android for these settings, sorry.
There is a fix with editing gps.conf file and it actualy worked for me, it downloads A-GPS data
why don't you try this and then move to the harder part?
1. Use file explorer capable of editing system files to edit the file /system/etc/gps.conf (I use Root Explorer but unfortunately this is paid software; not tried with free version of Astro or ES, and it is possible that they can work too.)
2. Make sure that the bit after "NTP_SERVER=" goes with your location. I believe that as provided, it's "north-america.pool.ntp.org". If you live outside North America, as I do, edit to the appropriate server--as listed at the NTP POOL PROJECT (google for that).
and get GPS Status to reset the GPS itself, this might help!?

Thank you,
but there are no changes.
GPS Status shows 0 for both and another Tool (GPS Fix) trys to locate me, but also can't do it.

I got same trouble.
May be it deal with hd2 version - I got tmobile tmous.
I try many roms (desire hd port, 2.3 and 2.2 other ver.) - same trouble, gps status program can not see satelites.

Hi IMS1407
what a hazzle that was.
I have an HTC HD2 / Leo that i purchased a year ago. I started playing with Android about a month ago and have successfully installed several nand from Froyo and Gingerbread. With all of them i had the GPS problem not being able to see any satelites. I purchased GPS Doctor and tried some other so called GPS Fixes, but NONE of them worked. I finally came accross your post and tried the editing of the gps.conf file. I got me Root Explorer and edited the gps.conf file by simply adding below the line
NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.asia.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.asia.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.asia.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.asia.pool.ntp.org
I saved the file and God and Behold I had a Fix within seconds verified by GPS Aids and GPS Status APP.
again thanks alot .....

I have a TMobile US version. Having trouble with the GPS as well. I leave the phone for few hours and found no satellite.
Running HyperDroid 2.1.0 NAND.

Simple, and works

try to update to newer gps libraries, might work.

I also have a gps problem with my hd2 t-mobile but it doesn't have anything to do with gingerbread. Specifically, if the phone get a little warm, gps stops responding. I don't get any errors like not finding the gps but no satellites. Problem exists in NexusHD 4.0.4 which I'm running from native sd and in windows mobile. if I reboot the phone and go straight to wm and run a gps test no satellites. If I shut down the phone and turn it on immediately no satellites. If I shutdown and let it cool down or force it to cool down (lay in on an Icepack) It works (until it warms up again) than nothing. If I cool it down without restarting (lay it on the icepack) it doesn't come back. I already suspect the worst but still asking. In any case I've got a globalsat external bluetooth gps which is far more accurate than the internal gps I was just hoping on avoiding using it in inconvinient situations. I currently have two hd2's one of which is a t-mobile and I don't think I'm going to go in the HTC direction again. Samsung seems to be looking good.

TomTom 5 and POIs not working

@all,
like in the previous versions tomtom5.00 doesnt work with Pois (points of intrests) on. Navigation just seases and tomtom shuts itself off totally.
With POIs off everything works neatly.
Anybody knows why? And why hasnt tomtom fixed the problem by now?
Or is it just me, the most stupid assumeable user?
Well they've released versions 5.100 & 5.200. & it's very likely the number of poi's on which it crashes. Don't use them all, but a few & it should work.
Cheers, M
jupp,
set up only a couple of them and it works like a breeze.
Thanx
You're welcome
I've been running the maximum number of POIs since I installed TT and have never had a crash- this was of course after the 'POI Patch' was applied.
I also run Checkpoint on there- this only slows down the 'demo route'; live navigation has never been affected.
Hi,
can you give us the link to the poi patch cab? I heard before about it, though haven't tried it yet.
Poiplace is a fine piece of work & does its job great. I remenber reading somewhere that having a list of speed-cam's is illegal in Germany, not to scare you just a warning. Course I might be mistaken as well.
Regards, M
I remember uploading to FTP a while ago since I couldn't find the original one anywhere.
Look in this folder, there is a file called 'Patch POI TTN5.zip'.
ftp://xda-developers.com/Uploads/SatNav/Tomtom/
This was working fine in TTN V5.00 and now on 5.21 too.
Patch sounds great too.
Any ideas what it actually does?
Thanx
i also had the same problem. i just went to settings and disabled POIs from appearing and thats it. i drove from northampton to leeds without a problem. you can also try using the patch which was posted by sh500. unzip it and
copy all files to 2577 folder on youur PPC SD card
after installing TT5. then excecute the ttn.cab on
your SD card.
then thats it

On some devices TT would crash with the POIs on. Installing this patch seems to resolve this issue.
In my case, it was only the 'Cash Dispensers' POI that was causing the program to crash. But whatever the POI, this patch should overcome this issue.
There are already a few threads on the forum discussing this further.
Link does not seem to work
Hello everyone,
I am having a terrible time with my XDA IIs, I have installed TomTom 5 and no matter what I try I cannot get any POIs working (not even one). Anyway, I googled this problem and found this forum. I saw the link above in one of the posts but the link does not seem to work. If anyone has a copy of this patch I could really do with it. If anyone whose got it, could you please send it to [Email Removed] or post a working link to it! I would really appreciate it!
Thanks.
The link that i've posted is working...
You've got to (re)login using 'xda' for username and 'xda' for password from the 'File'> 'Login As' menu and type the credentials in there (this is if you are using Internet Explorer)
Or use ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/SatNav/Tomtom/
works very good as link. Not sure what the program does, as it installs TT5.0
M
Sorted!
Thanks sh500, I got it now and it is installed and, so far, appears to be working, at least in demo mode.

Really no more lag ?
Anybody knows, where can we can find this version ?
Thanks for this news man.
I just checked TomTom Home => but there are no updates for me.
I have Version7.910(9185) installed.
btw: I hope you know what GPS Lag means.
You make 90 degree Curve and on the Display it shows up in 2-3 sec.
Is it possible to have a cruise-ripped version of this build? Or is it warez related? :?
I'm using 7.910(9185) with almost zero lag. My true position is reflected by the tip of the arrow, not the centre but map response on tight corners is perfectly adequate for navigation and almost as good as the Navteq system fitted to my car.
what number/versions of maps do work with tomtom7.915.916?
Could you please share? If it's still a free soft.
Thats the Problem - your GPS position in TomTum shuld NOT be the top of the Arrow.
And be honest, how accurate is it in a curve or a Roundabout.
I use my Diamond while driving with an external bluetooth mouse and it is 5m accurate an zero lag.
The Problem is imho not the Software but the way qualcomm is pre-processing the NMEA Data.
Same experience for me
No more lags, fast fix. Before; I sometimes had to wait 20 min for a fix. Now 1-2 min. Must say I updated rom (_NLD_2.03.) and TomTom together.
here is a RS link for the new tomtom
MOD EDIT: No warez
Jut cant figure out how to install to internal memory. Link Include QVGA and VGA
for sure i know what a lag is, i use a smartphone since tomtom 5 on my first qtek...and diamnod is my 11th smartphone so if i say i have a lag i assume to know what i say
i also never post a link because of respect of rules in xda-dev ! google is the friends of all of us for testing purpose only
but i thought it was a good information to share because i really have no lags with this version and my diamond, where i am with my car is correct with the tomtom from NOW
maybe it could be the same for you, for me it's ok i can say
I'm using version 7.450.9028.
How can I upgrade to the lastest version?
Thanks
Installed on HD, the lag is minor than other versions, but still exists
Works great
hi devilmc,
for me nothing special to do, just installed over the old one, start it, internal gps correctly seen in my settings, fix very quick
br
Edit : between your message and your modification seems to be ok, that why i edit also

Did you have to reactivate your maps?
nothing about it just install and it's ok
Surely there must always be a lag of some size or other, otherwise Tomtom will have to predict where you are going? And I presume the lag time must increase with speed, as the processing time must be standard no matter how fast you are going?
Anyway I've been using version 7.450.9028 with 720.1802 maps for some time, and, on a straight road my car is more or less at the point of the arrow at 70mph, so I will try this new version and see how much better it is
yes sure you are right, but i can say than with some pna of my friends tested yesterday (one tomtom 920, one garmin) the diamond and this tomtom is the same, it's a normal software for gps now and no frustrations anymore.
What this version seems to never do :
the coffee
predict where you will be one minutes after in the future
br
Correct size of POI:s Icons
Hi!
First of all, TomTom for Diamond has been concidered NOT to be warez in the past. Why the change?
Second, in the 7.915.916 at last tha POI iocns does show up in the "normal" size as in the QVGA versions. Big thanks TomTom!
Third, I also wanted an installation on the interna storage. But since there was'nt any way to change during the installation, I simply moved all the files and maps, besides CurrenMap and UserPatch in Program/Navigator to the internal memory and created a Program/Navigator folder. Works nice, just the icon under programs now is wrongly linked and needs to be changed.

QuickGPS CAB File?

Hi there,
got a prob with QuickGPS and TomTom.
First TomTom says "no gps device" (or something like that - I use the german one). Tried everything, without success.
Then I tried to update QuickGPS. Download starts, but "crashes" before reaching 100%. Tried a lot, even via ActiveSync etc etc.
So I tried some QuickGPS Cab File from somewhere on the web. Installed it, tried to start it, without success, as it is not signatured digitally.
So deinstallation of this version, and now even the old one is lost.
My question:
1. Can anyone supply me with the official QuickGPS CAB of the latest official ROM (2.32...)
2. Can anyone supply me with the certain reg-info?
Thx in advance! About to face a hard reset - but not willing to...
I would advice you just to redo the last firmware.
You will be getting your Quickgps back.
There might be someone on here with a better idea, but most likelly you will be ending up with hard resetting anyway.
Doing it right now. Somehow this problem seems to be a pretty common one, but noone in all those forums ever placed a working solution. Bad luck, as I have had a lot of tools setup pretty well... But hey, thats windows!
What version of TomTom do you have? If tomtom says no device then you have to check your port(4) and baud(4800) settings and make sure you use the internal gps.
I had the same problem but
Mine is a HTC clone... I had the same problmes .

GPS issues

I am currently using [22 JAN] -=MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.6 [A2SD+][GRH78C][RMNET][Kernel: MDJ S10.4 OC] on my HD2 but the Rom's thread is chaotic!
Right now it's not working at all, the gps status cannot locate and none of my gps programs (sygic aura etc) can locate.
When i was using the MDJ revolution 2.2 nand rom my gps was working fine and with WM 6.5.
Can someone please guide me step to step how to make my gps work?
Also i'm a bit of a newbie in Android
Thanks in advance.
It works but...
it takes 2-3 min to lock on. I did change the gps.config located in system/etc for the phone to look for satellites in my region (us).
All this and even more has been done a thousand of times. IT DOES NOT WORKS!
No it doesnt locate any satelites even after 5 minutes of waiting. Both gps status and ndrive did not.

Since you already have FasterFix on board, you should change your NTP_SERVER to gr.pool.ntp.org. This way, the GPS with know you are in Greece to better lock onto the satellites faster. Also like others have said, use GPS Status and Toolbox found in the Market to load the AGPS information to help with GPS lock. Let GPS Status and Toolbox do the first initial lock (about one minute) then after that, GPS signal lock should be within 10-15 seconds. Hope this works for you.

I did what the first post was saying but still no gps. With winMO 6.5 i had a lock on satelites at 5-10 secs.
I think i'm going to revert back to winMO
For some reason I'm not able to use the GPS with nand releases. I've tried many but no luck at all. Right now I'm on cope's SD one and it is working, maybe you can give it a try.

[Q] Blackstone gps not working

hi all i have a blackstone that was originally branded to orange but was unlocked, so i flashed to a custom rom to debrand from orange and then flashed again to official 1.56 rom and radio now i can use the phone to make receive calls use internet on o2 no problem.
However the gps does not work, when i load google maps and select "use GPS" it just says "seeking gps satellites (o) for around 10 minunts then says "unable to find satellites".
and yes i am trying this outside and just to confirm i also have a p3470 on cordic (taxi dispatch system) that finds satellites within just a few seconds.
HTC
Rom version: 1.56.405.1 (43972) WWE
Rom date: 03/06/09
Radio version: 1.17.25.09
Protocol version: 52.69.25.37U
this is driving me up the wall i have searched high and low for 2 days to find a solution to the gps problem.
please please someone help. any ideas much appreciated.

the question was has anyone ever had this problem NOT has anyone got a blackstone.
does anyone know if there is a separate driver for the gps that i can download?
yeah but you are talking about WINDOWS MOBILE, it's not really a general problem -.- and if you think it is, post it on the General Forum, because surely no one will see it here
Well, I have seen it.
And I do use my Blackstone from time to time for other things than e-book reading...
Most probably there's one of possible problems:
- wrong radio (hardly, you have the latest)
- no ephemerides (use QuickGPS to download, otherwise you might wait forever for GPS lock)
- problem with GPS receiver. Well, that one is hard to crack without diagnostic GPS software.
- [EDIT] ah... what version of Rilphone do you have? It HAS to be latest one - see my sig... [/EDIT]
I'd recommend you to try using some other GPS software instead of Google Maps.
I know, it's hard to find WM 6.x software nowdays, but you could try to find WM version of... let's say, Waze on some software archives.
Search trough forums, there might be some software attached.

- wrong radio (hardly, you have the latest) agreed
- no ephemerides (use QuickGPS to download, otherwise you might wait forever for GPS lock) quickgps is up to date.
- problem with GPS receiver. Well, that one is hard to crack without diagnostic GPS software.
- [EDIT] ah... what version of Rilphone do you have? It HAS to be latest one - see my sig... [/EDIT] how do I know what rilphone I have?
I'd recommend you to try using some other GPS software instead of Google Maps. I Have tried tomtom and another nav program
I know, it's hard to find WM 6.x software nowdays, but you could try to find WM version of... let's say, Waze on some software archives.
Search trough forums, there might be some software attached. sorry what is waze?
How do you know what rilphone you have?
Try to find latest one (see my sig) here on forum and install it.
I can not check ATM correct procedure (my Blackstone is resting at home, 250 Km from here), but there must be thread dedicated to that. Most probably in stickies...
Waze? You should Google it...
But, it's called "social navigation". Uses all kinds of GPS positioning (GPS and A-GPS. At least Android version does) and shows current traffic and traffic conditions. More users = better info.

i cant find a rilphone for the blackstone can i use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=574127 it says for diamond?
No, please.
Alough I think you might not brick your phone, it can cause bigger trouble.
HTC Blackstone/Radio flashing has a link which says "All Blackstone Radios (6) can be found here :". It leads to sharing site which contains needed Rilphone version.
I think I have a copy of Rilphone.cab on my Blackstone's microSD if really needed, but now that phone is 180 Km away... yeah, I travel a lot...
