New to Android with G2. How do I know when I have rec'd update? Many Thanks!
I'm assuming you mean when you have gotten the recent OTA update. You should receive a notification on your phone prompting you to accept it.

That's what I meant. Thanks.

Devs are recommending not to install the ota as it might delay you into getting perm root. I guess they'll want to play around with it and let us know the coast is clear.

Who knows, nobody has the ota really. A few claimed but haven't heard anything from them

It shouldn't affect either temp root or the "full" root later on, but we don't know for sure. If you receive the notification, please follow the instructions on the wiki to capture the address of the update. That would help greatly in finding out what it exactly does and how much of an effect it has on rooting the phone.

Ok im see if I get the update will be sure to log it on the froms asap

Tmo tech is lost as to why some phones just aren't receiving the update. Is rooting the only way?

I just got a new replacement phone today from UPS. Got it this morning and still waiting for the update.
My first one update within hours of me turning it on.
I'll let ya know if I don't have it by tomorrow.
Amazing how quick my wife and I all if a sudden get the update when I tell them I am gonna return the phones and cancel the agreement! But I know why the update didn't come when it was suppose to. The imei was not correct in the system. The last rep got tech on the phone and said check the imei and sure enough it was not changed.

Just in case it was overlooked, have you tried the checkin?
open the phone app and type:

Tried the update using the phone, no go. Called ATT and the ATT woman ended up pushing the update via wifi to my wifes phone. Took about and hour from start of download to the reboot.

I called at&t and was told no such update exist..... still on 4.2.2.
Then that person lied to you. My wife's phone showed 4.3 after the reboot.

What did you have to say? I swear I talked to two of the "support" people and they were as dumb as a box of rocks... they think that 4.2.2 is the new update...

I told them that an update was released earlier that day and that when I checked using my phone, it said my phone was up to date. The woman checked and confirmed what I had told her so she did what she had to on her end and pushed it to my wife's phone. The woman actually called it a firmware update instead of just an update.

A similar thing happened to me. Last night, I was told that there was definitely an update available and that it would come to my phone within the next few hours. It did, but I called AT&T this evening about Knox, and was told that the update has been pulled. According to the rep, they made a statement that "AT&T and Samsung have pulled the update and are looking into issue." They go on to mention Galaxy Gear support, call quality, but that is it. They mention nothing about Knox.

It took me three times. Turns out that at&t update manager app was disabled and there isn't a way to enable it... I have to take it to Best Buy or factory reset to fix lol... Samsung has an excellent skilled support team.

If you change the date on your phone you can keep checking the servers for ota.

Can you please share how you did this. Who did you talk to. Their number and so on?
I just dialed 611 and got ahold of, I think her first name was Carol (she was American and spoke excellent English), just tell whoever answers that you want the firmware update that'll take your phone from 4.2.2 to 4.3. Whoever you talk to should understand that, if not, demand to talk to someone else or a supervisor.

Got a hold of ATT they said that they have stopped pushing it out because of too many issues it was causing on some GS4's. Said ATT wa working on a fix and it would be back on OTA as soon as possible so I guess its just sit tight and wait.

They had the same problem with the 4.3 S3 update. Maybe they will include the Profile creator (KNOX) app that they previously excluded when they restart the OTAs.
AT&T Update
I was right by an AT&T Store when reading this, and went in to ask for myself. (I have an S4.) And he said to be patient, and that he doesn't know when it will be available.

Classic "canned" response. It's a good bet the AT&T employee had no idea of what you were talking about.

There's a good chance that's the situation. Disappointing if so.

On the phone with Samsung now. I337 updates have stopped but he doesn't know why. At least I got the truth from Samsung instead of the fellow at AT&T who told me over and over that my phone is up to date and that my gs4 model doesn't get the 4.3 update. A$$clown.
When going to do the KitKat update after freshly sbf'ing to stock I am greeted with a prompt(when I go to settings>about phone>system update) that says the following; "System updates is not available without a Motorola service account". It asks me if I want to set up an account and when I try it just has a spinning circle that never goes away. I am on 9.30.1. I have tried a factory reset multiple times with no success. Any ideas on a fix?
Perhaps someone will pull the official update from their cache and you could apply in the same manner as the soak test leak

I do! I even had the phone into the Verizon store today and they played with it for about an hour (near as I can tell, they didn't do anything I hadn't already tried). The consensus was that I needed a new phone, so they are going to overnight a new phone out to me.

Really?!?! That's a little excessive. I really think its just a problem on Motorola's end if everyone is suddenly getting this problem.

Okay I have bad news. I just got off the phone with a tech support agent at Motorola. They asked for my IMEI, I gave it to them and they told me they could tell i was rooted(which is funny because I'M ACTUALLY NOT ) and that the Motorola servers don't push updates to rooted phones. makes me question a lot because when i was actually rooted i got the update, but now that i'm not i don't? This is a mess. I just want my update.

Turn off your phone > pull out Sprint sim card > turn your phone back on and connect to your wifi then it will prompt you the update about 5 minutes or so.
I took out my sim it's been 1hr still no update does this method actually work ?

It worked for me. Did you go to phone settings and tap on system update? Keep trying that.
Sigh... Just do a manual sideload.

I have 2 ph-1s and my unlocked one has the January update. Just have a prepaid sim in it and use wifi to update
On sprint also haven't gotten the latest update.
Sprint lags behind. But you can sideload if anyone gets the file.

unless you are my dad(who loves his essential BTW) and have no f's to give about the latest and greatest, I always recommend side-loading. Carrier OTA rollouts are a joke

I think 90% of the version is security updates.
