System updates is not available. - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When going to do the KitKat update after freshly sbf'ing to stock I am greeted with a prompt(when I go to settings>about phone>system update) that says the following; "System updates is not available without a Motorola service account". It asks me if I want to set up an account and when I try it just has a spinning circle that never goes away. I am on 9.30.1. I have tried a factory reset multiple times with no success. Any ideas on a fix?

Perhaps someone will pull the official update from their cache and you could apply in the same manner as the soak test leak

I do! I even had the phone into the Verizon store today and they played with it for about an hour (near as I can tell, they didn't do anything I hadn't already tried). The consensus was that I needed a new phone, so they are going to overnight a new phone out to me.

Really?!?! That's a little excessive. I really think its just a problem on Motorola's end if everyone is suddenly getting this problem.

Okay I have bad news. I just got off the phone with a tech support agent at Motorola. They asked for my IMEI, I gave it to them and they told me they could tell i was rooted(which is funny because I'M ACTUALLY NOT ) and that the Motorola servers don't push updates to rooted phones. makes me question a lot because when i was actually rooted i got the update, but now that i'm not i don't? This is a mess. I just want my update.

You shouldnt have any problem with the OTA update when rooted. You will lose root though when you install this update that is coming.

If your deodexed it will interfere with the update. You need the .odex files for it to complete the check for the update to be approved.

Wrong, I have webtop mod. I still got the update notification two days ago (I volunteered for beta test). I didn't actually update so I don't know if the update will go through or fail after the webtop mod.
supposedly there is issues with the update and rooted users? can anyone confirm or deny this?

Sorry I wasn't clear when I said it stop the update I didn't mean it would stop it from downloading it stops it from installing. Webtop mod causes update to fail during install. A couple of posts up umm (sorry I don't know your name you've commented on my posts before) the poster with the new York name said that being deodexed would also cause the update to fail. I can't confirm or deny this but that might be true as its a major change just like the webtop mod is.

Wrong. This doesn't cause any major problems, you simply lose root. There is currently no method of rooting if you update, save flashing back to 1.2.6 or 1.5.2.
I assume this is consistant with all Atrix owners. I've just GladRoot my Bell Atrix, but only so I can use setcpu. I have not modded anything else.
So, hopefully (one day) Bell might update their version of the Atrix, although its not looking good right now

Just a curiosity considering you're from Aussie Land...why did you get the Bell Atrix vs. the AT&T one? Since modding or romming wise, the Bell doesn't have much going on for it due to no SBF

There were 2 reasons
1) I was in Canada at the time skiing around the day of release (17th March), needed a phone that worked on the right bands (my T-Mobile Nexus S didn't work at all) and happened to go past a Bell store while I was grocery shopping that had them in stock for $599. So I got it and had it unlocked in store.
2) Wanted one without the AT&T branding
All in all, I probably should have gone the AT&T version. I didnt know that Bell was so crap releasing updates. Modding wise, I wasn't fussed there was no SBF. I actually don't mind the phone because it has less bloatware on it from what I have seen.
I'm happy to just have root, and it plays the games that I use with absolute smooth operation. Overall, apart from the lack of updates, I'm stoked with it.
All I get is the android guy with the "!" When I attempt the update. Anyone else get this?

Well you did end up getting a nice phone. But just an FYI for the next time you're in Canada that the Nexus S(Tmo) will work on 2 carriers, Wind and Mobilicity, as both use the HSPA 1700 frequency. Only negative is that they are currently only have towers in major metro cities.

2.3.1

Just wondering have Google pulled all updates for the nexus s as I'm still on 2.3.1 ? and have yet to receive any updates, have just recently got my nexus from carphone warehouse on a orange contract .

I am still on 2.3.1 also. Had the phone for almost a month.
My old one didn't update from 2.3.
Manually updated to CM7 now...
I've looked on the Google blog but not seen notification of a OTA update being blocked to 2.3.2,I'm aware of the issues regarding 2.3.3 can anyone further this topic.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I, too, have a slight problem with this. I bought the SNS a week ago, it came with 2.3. It found the update to 2.3.1, updated OTA. But that was all. Didn't find any 2.3.2, not to mention 2.3.3. So, I manually did an update from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2. I didn't want to continue with 2.3.3 because of the issues with the color corrections in that update. Plus, it doesn't really change anything else important. Nothing bad has happened after the manual install, but I am still curios, why is it that the OTA's weren't present on my device, as well as others here on the forum ?
I'm also on the 2.3.1 since I got the phone but I haven't had any reboot issues nor any other problems with it. One thing I wanted to ask everyone here who bought the phone from BestBuy is did you all get the phone in an open box?

what's new?
yeah within minutes of me activating the phone yesterday evening it was pushed to my phone OTA.
I bet it's the update that takes away free tethering.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I did the update when I first received the phone on Thursday and I still have tethering. This is a built in native Android feature. Eliminating that would defeat the purpose of a Nexus device.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Yeah I saw it as well, yesterday. I went ahead and installed it. The corporate Sprint store around here opened at 11AM and I saw it when my phone was activated at 11:30, so it must have been something they knew about before the launch.
The description said it fixes minor performance issues or something to that effect.
GRJ22 is the final OTA build sent to the rest of the Nexus S devices. The NS4G phones likely all shipped with GRJ06D and are just being brought in line with the latest release.
You can find a changelog for GRJ22 in the OTA threads (mostly bugfixes and Google Talk video chat) but it likely doesn't all apply coming from GRJ06D.

Not callin' BS, sorry if it came out as if I were. Just giving my $0.02 on the update.
I was pretty surprised tethering was still in there, too, given that they charge for it for the other phones.
I didn't think they would be able to charge for tethering on a pure Google phone, until I noticed they updated the features page at Google.com/Nexus. It now says under portable wifi hotspot that it is subject to carrier fees. :/

Sprint rep said tethering wouldn't work unless the account was already set up for the mobile hotspot $29.99/month plan. Tested to see, and you can set the phone to act as a mobile hot spot and make the connection, but it wouldn't actually give me internet access. The laptop showed the connection, but with local access only and an error about the IP address. Not surprised - it was the same way with the CDMA Hero, too.

A similar thing happened to me. Last night, I was told that there was definitely an update available and that it would come to my phone within the next few hours. It did, but I called AT&T this evening about Knox, and was told that the update has been pulled. According to the rep, they made a statement that "AT&T and Samsung have pulled the update and are looking into issue." They go on to mention Galaxy Gear support, call quality, but that is it. They mention nothing about Knox.

I just dialed 611 and got ahold of, I think her first name was Carol (she was American and spoke excellent English), just tell whoever answers that you want the firmware update that'll take your phone from 4.2.2 to 4.3. Whoever you talk to should understand that, if not, demand to talk to someone else or a supervisor.

It is odd that the site no longer has any firmware for our device. Just last week they still showed 4.3 as our stock firmware.

Just thought I would post that as this site claims that AT&T is rolling out the update soon. I haven't heard of this site though so I don't know if its credible. Just something I came across today that gives us some hope

"with the Galaxy Note 3 likely to receive the update ahead of the current Note 4 and Note Edge."
Translation:
Maybe they'll start rolling 5.0 out before the end of the summer. 5.1? Probably not in 2015. And by then a real bug-fixed newer version will be out. (That big pile out behind AT&T is the pile of "go backwards fast" pills they each take every morning.)
But for me? I hate Material Disgust, my phone works just fine with 4.4.2, Towel Root and SafeStrap, and I'm in no hurry to maybe update to 5 with no way to get back to 4 if I don't like 5. I'd rather someone fix the Note 4 port - that's a nice ROM.
I didn't say it was the worst against other devices, it's the worst out of all Note 3 variants.

just got the update myself downloading now.
Got the update this afternoon. Takes a while to download it but so far like the new update. Phone running smooth, no hiccups. Waiting to see what the battery life looks like.

Nothing major. You can go on YouTube and see the changes. Most of them are just design changes. Looks a little lighter if that makes sense? The way the active apps show up is new. More like a carousel. My battery drain seems to have gotten a little worse. Trying to determine if I have a rogue app or its the update. Like it overall.
