There have been a lot of posts about slow speeds and 4G issues. There's been speculation on PRI, radios and MAC addresses. My goal with this thread is to create a roll-call for everyone with problems and what they're running with. With this data, hopefully we can draw better conclusions to why we're having issues.
PLEASE POST YOUR DETAILS AS FOLLOWS IF YOU'RE REPORTING SLOW SPEEDS:

Welcome to Sprint, the NOT Network
or
Welcome to Sprint, The Now UNnetwork.
sprint and slow speeds/spotty service go hand in hand.
to be truthful, people have reported that an unrooted stock phone does better in the same location than a rooted phone.
but others have reported no difference.
for me its a mixed bag but the difference is minor, minor enough that you can chaulk it up to margin or error.
my speeds in my town are fracking all over the spectrum, and i mean that. it's never the same form hour to hour.
and worst of all at my work location and the surrounding 3/4 to 1 mile radius is in a Data Dead Zone, there is almost no data for some reason, but plenty of signal. and when i go into my building i start to roam, and i get faster speeds roaming than i do if i walk outside and get full bars.
That should be a new acronym, DDZ - Data Dead Zone.
now i have never taken the wife on a drive with me to test her unrooted phone at my work area, but plan to soon.
I know that I got a little bit better 3g speeds at home before rooted, and I don't know if it was because I moved to 2.2, but my 4G speeds have went down alot, and hardly work, though thats how it was before, but for a week or so it was perfect 5mb/s, but now I can't have consistant speeds, it gets down to like 1mb/s now, and doesn't even top 2mb/s.
I did a quick, unscientific, test the other day in my house comparing my 3G to 4G speeds. I sat in the exact same spot and ran the speedtest and my 4G speeds were 1.07mb and my 3G speeds were 1.03mb..........Pretty dissappointing.
I never gone past 140 kbs on download on 3g here in wisconsin with 3g.. it be nice if they come out with 4g support to cover most customers when they comeout with a phone made for 4g.. i tried the whole list of cities and at different times.. top speed of 140 kbs.

What I'm looking for is for anyone who's having similar issues to report their software details. With this info we can drill down what could be causing these issues.
I just posted my results. So I don't see an issue and it looks like your area.

It very well could be degregated performance in NYC. I know awhile back ATT was telling their customers to use wifi whenever possible because of the network congestion:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/05/25/att.free.wifi.nyc.cnet/index.html
I live in the chicago suburbs and around my house 4G and 3G speeds are terrible. However, if I venture about 5 minutes out, towards the elgin area specifically, I have seen speeds of up to 11mbs. Its just a little dissapointing that I appear to be on some crummy fringe area, but if I drive a couple miles out my speeds improve SO much.

Meh...I'm in Kentucky and in Louisville and Lexington I get an average of 1.0-1.5Mbps...it rairly ever drops under.

I have read all of the PRI threads and really don't know if that is a cause for slow speeds or not. The problem I have is that I can do a speed test 5 times in a row and get 5 completely different results. A couple of nights ago I did about 6 speed tests over a 1 hour period. they ranged from 296 kbps down to 2198 kbps down (all on 3g). I just think that Sprints network, at least where I live is pretty unreliable.
For the record my specs are.

Anyone else in Tempe/Phoenix have their 3g speeds die? My download speed has slowed to a crawl, just did speedtest a little bit ago and it actually showed -1kbps.

Im not to site if this is a sprint issue or just something with my phone but my data speeds have been really slow. I do the speed tests and I get 450 kb if im lucky while my friends evo does 850 kb in a bad area. Is there something I can do with my phone to fix this?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
i get horrible 3g data speeds. like...375KB. its ridiculous! when i had T-Mobile i would easily get 1.5MB's in a decent 3g area.
Is this just a sprint thing? Or is it an epic thing. A friend of mine has tmobile and he is getting awesome speeds.
I think its a little bit of both. Service on the epic is trash. On "4g" I'm pullin 1MB/s at MOST and that's rarely...its usually ~500-850. My hero had a wayyyyy better radio on it
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I was wondering if anyone knew if the radio from the vibrant 4g could be ported to the g2 or is the g2's hardware the limiting factor for it's capped 14.4 mbps?
It might be possible, but because of hardware differences it might take more work than its worth. Considering the Vibrant is by Samsung and the G2 is by HTC.
Man the day I consistently see 14 mpbs and want MORE I will **** my pants. I have never seen higher than 6 in my city.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
The current snapdragon cpu in the G2 can only accept data at 14.4 mbps. Nothing you do on the software side can increase that rate.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
well that just sucks
Why do you need faster then that? You do know you have faster internet on your phone then I do where I live in wyoming and idaho.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Keep in mind this is the THEORETICAL rate. You will almost never get above 8mbps anyway.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
exactly. I dont know why people are worried about moving from 14.4 to 21mpbs... No one can ever get consistent down/up speeds over 6, not to mention that extremely large areas and entire markets don't even have HSPA+ yet.
I guarantee by the time everyone is pushing 14mpbs consistently the G2 will be very, very old news.
Does anyone else experience this or have any solutions I can try. I'm getting about 0.12 kbps on "3G" and only 2mb on wifi sitting right next to my router with Bright house Road Runner Turbo. My PC gets about 20mbps. So what gives? Is this just a low data speed phone or is something not right? Here are the specs:
Android 2.2.3
Radio-2.22.27.08
Kernel-ezterry v1.5.1f
ROM-DREAMteam Froyo v2.0.0
try upateing radio to .25 in ezterrys 2708+ thread
also if you look for his ezgingerbread rom there is a file there you can flash in recovery to update gprs from 10 to 12 that helps some to get faster speeds.
also if you go into dialer and type
*#*#4636#*#*
you can run some tests and change how your radio

Is there a list of these extra codes for the G! online somewhere?
maybe i never looked but im sure somewhere.
look up maybe "htc android phone dialer"
Thanks for the help. Did the gprs fix and the radio and still getting the exact same speeds. I called simple mobile and they refreshed the network blah blah. Same exact thing. I have 2 G1's on different accounts and they both top out at about 120kpbs. This sucks! I'm also getting full bars and 3G symbols.
well you may want to consider tmobile, not sure how awesome they are in your neck of the woods, but where i live i get reception where no one else does and i pay 170 after taxes for 4 plans unlimited. not too shabby out here

hey
im dont have my g1 anymore and when i did i never had a sim in it, but upon looking at simple mobile's web site under approved phones, it says this:
Important Note about 2G and 3G Phones
If your phone says it is a 3G phone but it does not support the 1700mhz band, it will operate at 2G (EDGE) speeds on our network.

does the g1 support 1700mhz?
Yes. A G1 is a T-Mobile phone, and runs 3G on the 1700 band. Simple Mobile is a T-Mobile sub.

well if you have the simple mobile $40 plan, it limits speeds to 128 kbps, if you have the $60 plan then you have a problem.

Are you serious? I have the $40 plan but it's supposed to be 3G. Why is it that way?
I never really saw speeds much above 120k. Might just be a phone / processor limitation.

G1 supports up to 7.2 mbps, so no its not a limitation there
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda app-developers app
Back when my G1 was new, it was much faster. It slowed (including bandwidth speeds) over time with each OTA it got. I imagine it is like a 486 PC which was super fast with Windows 3.1, then slower with 95, and even slower with 98. To prove this point, try flashing DREAMING.nbh and going back to Android 1.0 RC29 and see what the speed is. My wife still loves her G1, and with only a few apps on it, 1.6 crawls. My Nexus S has also slowed a lot since going from 2.3 to 4.0.x to 4.1.1.
The speedtest app was too unreliable for me. My Nexus S on 2.3 barely did 5 MB/s on wifi, while I got 15 MB/s in the browser using flash (same as my PC). I can confirm the 15 was correct from the bandwidth graphs on my router which has DD-WRT firmware.
I live in Australia and am on the Vodafone 3G/ HSPA network.
Just got this speed on my One X international version.
Anyone else getting speeds this high on 3G? Who needs 4G with almost 1MB/sec on 3G
Here's mine. It's supposed to be 2M/sec so I think thats good.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Well i've got mine set to Bytes not bits. In your units mine is 7.5 Mb/sec. I'm not complaining.....just thought it was pretty darn good.
Mine is 1 Mb/ sec
I changed the settings and got these results. 285,2kB/s down and 56kB/s up.

anyone else want to chime in?>
I download file on the speed 350kb/s in 3.5G
My sister on Talk Mobile which runs off Vodafone, fastest I've ever seen on mobile networks here in the UK. I get similar on my Vodafone sim but she's got unlimited data.
These speeds are at home most places in London you'd be lucky to even get half of that.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
The highest I've got was 3.61 up, and 1.1 down!
6640kbps downlink / 747kbps uplink
T-Mobile Hungary, Desire DHD, Absolution 3.7 ROM
Question
How do you get this values (downlink / uplink) ? Is there a good benchmark for mobile phones? My provider promised to me a maximum of 7,2 Mbit/s - I don't believe it!
Best regards
