I've been looking for a successor to the Nexus One, and this seems to be it. I just have a simple question, would this work on AT&T? I know I would have to unlock it and it would only be on EDGE, but can I do that?
I'm sure there's a way to unlock it, but it seems pretty pointless to use it on AT&T. I think the real delight to the phone is the fact that it utilizes T-Mobile's new HSPA+ network.
you can unlock it but its useless since you won't be able to get 3G or HSPA+. wrong bands. Just go get a Captivate.
Aww, but it's so pretty. </3
I read yesterday that an AT&T version of the G2 just passed through the FCC.

i only tried it for a little while because i actually have tmobile but i unlocked just for the hell of it. but its really not THAT bad just like how most of the people with tmobile on iphones. but of course compared to the speed that this phone is capable of after HSPA+ is COMPLETELY up and running theres no sense in using it on at&t LOL

A senior moderator on XDA should merge "HTC Vision"/ "HTC Desire Z" and "Tmobile G2" into 1 category. What makes it more confusing is that originally the G2 is referred to the HTC hero.... lol
OP wait for Bell Canada to get the Desire Z and get one of those.

Will last as long as t-mobile has 4g
As soon as AT&T (or like 6-12month later) buys t-mobile, the life of G2 will be limitted. I know that 2g speed just won't do it for me.
I guess I wish that frequencies that the phone used were not in the hardware but in the software.

They probably will considering that at&t doesn't have anything in place for hspa+ and all at&t is doing is focusing on rolling out lte.
On the other hand, the second a dual core phone with a physical keyboard comes out, the g2 loses its place in my heart Preferably htc but the way they keep trying to lock down their bootloader is a complete turn-off and may be a deciding factor for me in the future if they keep it up lol
Dont get me wrong i love my G2 but im thinking about trading it for another phone... i just dont use the keyboard enough.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I am actually about to buy a G2 in the next week or so. I really love the keyboard (after the iPhone, I realized I really need a keyboard). I currently have a Cliq, so it will be a big step up for me.
I am slightly worried about losing T-Mo 3/4G once the Evil Empire buys them up. I have an awesome plan ($70/month (includes taxes/fees) for 400 min, unlimited text/data ) that they no longer give to new customers. Their new plans are ****e imho. I don't know how much longer after they buy T-Mo they will let me keep my plan. I already left AT&T once cause of their ridiculously high prices.
Anyway, I don't need the G2 to last forever, just for another year until I decide to get a new phone (the one with dual cores, 3D, and ion laser cannons). The last phone I had for more than a year was the original iPhone (3 yrs). My last two phones I only had for less than 6 months each (N900 and Cliq).
Sure the G2 can last forever....
If you give it Viagara, lol

u have any links to back up that they will start dropping the 3/4g? Why would ATT just stop using mhz bands when the towers are up and stable...? I seriously think att will start using the 4g towers...
tbh i dont think t-mobile will die. yes they will be taken over but i think they may let t-mobile to keep its name just to stop the confusion. maybe an * next to the name or maybe "T-Mobile, an AT&T company."

just wondering, and going off topic, which Galaxy S Variant besides the I9000, i mean like in the USA
would be the best there is?
Vibrant
Captivate
and the others i can't remember names right now...
which one would be the best? I think Samsung may go into THAT carrier with the original phone, maybe, just maybe.

Well, the Vibrant sold the most out of all the variants in the US (over 1 million) and the Vibrant was also the closest to the i9000 in terms of appearances and internals.

nice
Looks like a nice phone.
Really wish T-Mo would rethink this whole ATT merger thing...they could easily rise as the 3rd/2nd biggest US Carrier behind Verizon seeing all these phones that are going to/could be released for T-Mo.
Vibrant hands down. T Mobile removed the least amount of functions from stocl os and did not put to much bloatware in there. My wige has captivate and its junk compared to my vibrant

So since this tweet is from samsung canada, will the update only be available to candian carriers? And is the hardware same on tmoile us and canada? And will we get stable gps even if we dont get the update in us? I was just full of questions when i saw this. What do u think guys?
Im not sure if the Canada updates apply to us tho, if those are really for the US carriers then that would be great, tho we already have semi working/stable gps on several gingerbread roms including CM7, really all i would care about is the source drops, once we get source we can make gps work better than it ever will with stock gps. Not to mention improvements on existing gingerbread roms, and the potential for ICS support from the CM team when that drops.
The Canadian Vibrant is not the same device as the US version thus the ROM would be incompatible, but maybe this is a step towards it finally coming to US markets. We will see.

Especially if you consider how many G2 users might actually renew their 2-year contract for a free upgrade to a G3. (most of my family has already done this with their own phones, and I'm eligible to upgrade as well from my G2... if there was a comparable phone for it...)
IF this happens I hope they follow suit and also release it in Canada / Worldwide under the same bands as the DZ. That's the reason the G2/DZ has such a strong community, because it's worldwide.

One would hope, it would also be more profitable for HTC to be able to sell the same phone on a worldwide market with simply different branding like they did with the G2/DZ. It's just a matter of, is there a demand for it outside of say T-Mobile users. (I would say there is, but HTC would have a better idea of the numbers).
The name Era 42 makes sense for a keyboard phone as 42 would be the perfect number of keys for a 4 row qwerty phone. The G2 has 43 including though shortcut keys and search key I never use.
Omg i hope this is true. Im getting an S3 the beginning of next month so i better hear some more news SOON.

Sigh. I thought we were passed this. I'm having a hard time caring though this time around. Not sure why.

ATT comes standard 32gb, probably on T-Mobile too. No SD support on USA phone models from what i've read. Maybe T-Mobile offers a 16gb and 32gb model for some reason? Thought it ONLY came in 32gb?
Just remove these two files: found in /system/lib libiq_client.so and libiq_service.so
You need to be rooted one you remove these you can confirm whether the service is dining by downloading an iq checker in the play store. Remember it's the carriers not lg that included this.
Upon further testing phone FCS during a call if u remove these files...so will have to figure out whatelse needs to be done.

On T-Mobile, at least for the One and S4, it asks whether you want to opt-in for Carrier IQ. I really don't see this as a huge deal but I mean I'm not against removing it either though.
