I couldn't find this posted anywhere so forgive me if this is redundant. I saw a video on YouTube about a hack for the iPhone that allows them to video chat over 3G. I must say, it was a lot more laggy than the experience I had with my Evo over 3g. I know you can expect too much over 3g, but I thought it would have been a little better after all the fuss they made about that damn Facetime.
Oh well.... moving on

Some days I cant stream a youtube video. Some days I can. Full signal both times. Sprints network is very very shady. ATTs is faster but much spottier. Tradeoff.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I get excellent coverage on Sprint where I live and where I work.

It all about location, just like with all carriers. If the bandwith isnt there, the quality wont be there either.
My video chatting has been beautiful so far on 3g and wifi. Only issue is qik doesn't give sound for me, they can't hear me, I just use fring

What does this have to do with the Evo?
Just that everybody complains that Qik and Fring are so bad. Yes Facetime is much is better over WiFi, but its really no better over a normal 3G connection. At least in in my opinion.

3g compared to 4g is night and day, video chat was intended naturally to be ran over 4g and WiFi.

Just another fanboy. In NYC I get AT&T HSPA and downlinks of 3-4 Mbs. I haven't found a need to jail break my iPhone 4, but if I did, that'd be enough to make it look the same as over WiFi.
And since this was just another pointless bashing thread I'm going to throw some reality into it. Facetime video chats look and work infinitely better than any video chat app on Android whether over 3g, 4g, or WiFi. As a EVO user this is actually a legitimate complaint from me. The front cam on the EVO is 1.3 MP and still looks worse than the VGA front cam on the iPhone 4. It's time that HTC starts prioritizing quality over marketing numbers.

I cant really disagree with this.... plus the fact that we really dont have a dedicated video chat option because Qik is TERRIBLE. Quality on Fring is just as bad and the sound is all garbled over the speaker.
I used facetime with my iPhone tethered to my Evo on 3g today and it worked great with very little lag every now and then. So could be the area you are in.

don't forget - on qik if you see a "talk" icon on the screen, you have to hold that down to talk. it eliminates looping and feedback. only one party will have this, i forget which one...
gotta try Tango...people saying its much smoother than Qik and Fring

I call bull****. There is no way in hell you are pulling 3-4mbs in downtown nyc. Even at the apple conferences and crap (most of which is on youtube), it shows demonstrations of the **** not even receiving 1 bar. Not only that, but I have people in nyc as well who get **** signal let alone 3-4mbs.

I have no problem calling out where both the iPhone 4 and EVO fails. But you? I swear you're one of the biggest fanboys on here.

as far as your 3-4mbs goes, apparantly you're one of the only ones getting it. btw if your speed drops, remember to hold it in a different position.

3-4 Mbps if you're in a HSPA area IS NOT UNCOMMON.
As for being critical of the EVO, besides the 4.3" screen and WiMax, there' just a lot to be critical of. If you can't fail to see that other phones, and no I'm not talking about the iPhone 4, are making the EVO feel old, then you're just blind. Can I still enjoy my EVO? I do everyday. It's just a shame that HTC has a habit of including bad cameras and released a banner phone just before they refreshed their hardware.

I never said anything about HSPA or the speeds on at&t, I said that nyc doesn't get a good connection at all. 70-80% of nyc is a blackhole for iphone service, i've known multiple people who had to switch providers cause of constant drop calls and loss of service.
And who cares if the gpu is old? if you wanna play games then you should of taken your money and bought a xbox 360 or a ps3.
As far as bashing htc goes, there is no provider out there that doesn't have flaws, and considering phones like epic (software + hardware issues), and iphone which has the worst design when it comes to antenna placement, and not to mention the bw cap, evo is still 10000x better then both of those even with its outdated gpu.
I'd rather take a phone that connects to my service all the time, and has a great gui with decent update speeds then either of the problems that come with those two phones. I don't care about the camera, the camera on the phone is pointless. I don't use it and half the people out there probably wont either. Who cares if your screen is brighter and has a little apple logo on the back? Cause I certainly don't. Apple started a monopoly of smart phones (touch screen ones with good apps atleast), and with that head start they blinded everyone with their crap.
I'm not even going to go into their other products that have been rehashed and resold as if something "new" was added to it. Steve jobs is a great marketer to have convinced everyone that the new products have something "better" then the old ones. But considering the lack of education in the usa, that wasn't a hard task. In a couple of months he will go out on that stage again and tell the people about his iphone5 which still runs on 3g and has a brighter touch screen but they managed to fix the antenna issue, everything else is the same. the iphone and any of the apple products are just a marketing scheme that's it, he found a good niche and he made billions off of it, just by rehashing it over and over and over.
I really enjoyed when Fring had Skype capability. When I first got my EVO I was in a State Park in Virginia and my son was in Europe. Every day we would make a video connection. It worked just fine. I've been looking for a good alternative, as he will be heading to South American in the Spring.
So i need to find a good way to video connect over internet to his nettop from my EVO. Any ideas appreciated.

On the outside someone might be thinking the N1 is a terrible phone plauged with problems etc. But the more I look into these articles and reviews they seem to be 'complaining' about non issues.
You've all seen the engadget and gizmodo reviews, but take this article: 6 reasons not to like the nexus one!? This guy made up his mind before he even picked up the phone, and then wrote his article based on other bias reviews.
There was also an article featured on /. regarding the support backlash but all it cites are random 'customers' getting bounced around, and doesn't corrilate a common problem or state what these 'people' were having problem with. However there does seem to be a real problem with 3g/edge flapping. If the article had been written as well as this random forum poster I would be fine with it, but instead PCW took the angle of FUD, and it just angers me.
...and then it hit me, this phone might just be the iphone killer and fanboys are actually getting scared. Thoughts?
"6 reasons to hate" is a hands-off schoolboy attempt at bashing.
he's just pissed he isn't important enough (or hasn't budgeted his finances) enough to have one handed him.
the other non-reviews are a farce. when there is a real, hands on, weekly use review of the nexus, i'll listen up. for now it's all M$ generated (and other mobile OS venders) fud that proves the nexus is awesome hardware, running awesome software.
sure, there are some what-ifs about verizon/att/whoever, but they're just carriers. dumb pipes. really really dumb pipes. we all know it's the hardware and more importantly the SOFTWARE that matters. the dumb pipe carriers are just mad they finally have a real reason to fear phones that are not chained to their crappy services and contracts.
let them whine. the fud is easy to cut through with logic.
I got the Nexus One. Your are correct, the only problem is the 2G/3G connection switching. The computing power of this phone is amazing.
I never like professional reviews for anything, movies, games or tech because theyre all just some one paid to write their opinion, and you never know whos writing their check, or their companies check. I do however like user reviews from people that paid for and really use the product, and I think those have been strong. I think the most important part of the "6 reasons not to like" article is all the backlash at the bottom and users defending the phone, shows how much people really like theirs already. I am really lovin this phone, also I havent had the 3G issues some have been having, I have a mytouch, G1 and N1, all on TMob and they all have 3G all the time for me, I think it really depends on the market cause if it was a hardware or software issue I would think everyone would have that problem
am I the only one who IS NOT seeing this 2G-3G problem? I mean I do see the 3G connection sometimes going from 2 bars to 4 bars in the same area, and In some places around where I live I can't get 3G coverage, but this is the EXACT SAME behavior I saw on my MT3G
First off, I have to say that I absolutely love the N1...I don't remember the last time I was this obsessed with a gadget both before and after I got it.
That being said, I was starting to get a little nervous while waiting for FedEx because of all the bad press I was seeing. But then I noticed that a large chunk of this press was generated by sites like macworld.com or other apple, iphone, mac related sites. While the N1 has some minor glitches(what piece of technology doesn't), this is mostly a case of fanboys feeling threatened because people won't be oohing and aahing over there iphone as much.
P.S. I came from a G1 and am seeing absolutely no difference/problem with my 2g/3g service.
These network issues seem to be only in the US.
Never had any problems in the UK with my iPhone/3G, G1, Hero.
But then again pretty much all the UK is 3G anyway
Clearly people are writing this phone off without even seeing/using it!
Was in work and two are big WinMo and iPhone fans and they even said a few hours after it was officially announced that the iPhone is better without even knowing anything about it! I then told them about the Snapdragon / 512mb ram etc and then they shifted it saying yer but Android is rubbish!
But in work their are also a few Android users (G1, Tattoo and Hero) and they couldn't wait to see what Android does and if anything from the N1 will get ported etc!
Its just like the good old which console is the best? 360 or PS3! You can argue all day but you will never win the argument!

Google was very prompt with a return e-mail about the polar clock also. im very sure Google has an update soon for up to fix the polar clock and the 3g/edge switch issue. i seem to remember alot of bad press about the iphone when it originally came out also, as i recall it had alot of bugs. i guess this is "bad press" is our hater-aid and we should just drink up while the ifanboys drink their Apple kool-aid.

REMOVABLE BATTERIES?! NON-SENSE! (sarcasm)
I don't really get why people are bashing the N1. In the end, it's the same as the 3gs in terms of app placement- the hardware's faster than the other two models and developers have to make a choice of whether or not to take advantage of it- Android's made tons of improvements and now there's even fewer restrictions on the hardware (sold unlocked, super easy root)
I've loved my G1 for awhile and while it's a tank, I eagerly await getting the N1 at the end of the month as I've been able to toy with one (boss ordered after CES) and it pretty much lives up to all the hype.
I'm eager to get my hands on the section of the SDK that will allow for programming of live wallpapers- i love theming, and I can't wait to get a few of my ideas for a live background.

The trackball comment sounded like it was pulled directly from the gizmodo review. The trackball does the same thing it has on every android phone, there's nothing to report here.
Those tech writer/review are dumb asses. Every new good potential phones that come out they write up a review or hand on and then compare it to the iphone and then they talk junk about it. Esp those engadget @sshole. For ex, when the N900 came out, they talk mad sh!t about it comparing to the iphone, well for once, if they were smart enough, iphone is up to 3.1 version, and maemo 5 is still not complete. And now the nexus, android os had about 1.5 yr to grow so far. Iphone os? Well maybe 3 now? Iphone didnt have mms til 3.0 comes out, those reviewer are a bunch of iphone fanboys who seriously cant stand the thought of a competing device that might have a chance to beat it. I rather read forums and base my buying decision than trusting some blog writing techy.

I had a discussion yesterday with one of my coworkers on that, because he's stuck on a family plan. But this is a t-mobile decision, and them doing what they've always done and screwing over existing customer in favor of new signups. I'd kinda like to see the churn numbers at tmo. In any event, its still cheaper to buy the phone outright and continue with my grandfathered plan, even further non-contract plans are still cheaper in the end, and tmo is the only provider currently offering this inside the United States.
I hate everything about my new super sleek, super fast N1. What I hate most is its speed. Actually, I think I hate its awesome screen the most. Or that it's too light and thin for the power it has. I also hate how easily my contacts, calendar and email sync seemlessly with my device. I hate the fact I have to use a top of the line browser when going online and I especially hate that all my music plays so well. Watching all those HD quality movies I've converted and watching high quality YouTube videos is so boring. I can't stand my desktop full of all those widgets that provide me with useful information and those folders keeping my apps sorted just get in the way. But--and here's the most important thing I hate about my N1--I hate that I can make phone calls wherever I am. I'd much rather my calls be dropped. And that's all before I even rooted it to get access to more stuff to make my N1 terrible.

Hi,
I am an executive for Engadget.com and I have taken an interest in your talent for reviewing new technology and writing reports. I would like to offer you a job on my staff for reviewing new phones on the market. I won't go into detail on public forums about the specifics of the job but I can tell you that we will supply you with a free Iphone3gs and free unlimited everything contract, compliments of our partnership with Apple and ATT. If you would like further details please private message me.
Thanks
just got my email from sprint saying that evo releases on june 4, for 199 with contract.
now, i'm not going to give up my N1, but i need to have a sprint device for going back to clinics, and i think that this will do quite nicely
awesome possum.
I would give up my nexus one for evo but then again, I hate sprint service.

For what it's worth, Sprint has a larger 3G network than both AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as little to no issues with congestion, etc. They also have the ability to roam on Verizon for 2G services...this is useful when underground in NYC.
I don't think Sprint service is bad at all, honestly. At least not around here.
Don't count on Froyo and flash 10.1. The way carriers are putting out updates on their android HTC branded phones I wouldn't want it. Front facing cameras are a gimmick anyway.

If the phone is going to be rooted anyway, then who honestly cares? It should eventually get 2.2 froyo no matter what the carriers do. Same thing with Flash.

720p video capture using 8 megapixel camera
3G/4G compatible on 1900mhz dual band. EVDO/WiMax
4.3 inch display
FM Radio
Internal Memory 1GB
ROM 1GB ROM
that just put me to shame with my nexus one on t-mobile.

That's an invalid point. This is a HTC device, not the standard AOSP code.
Nexus is still better. 720p encoding will come soon. FM radio coming too. Better updates. Amoled. More dpi. Better support. Better trackball. Noise cancellation. Better battery. Its not hard to root. Don't expect evo root too soon. Gonna take time like Eris did. CDMA means give up ur phone to switch service. Immense lock down by HTC. BEST THING - CYANOGEN NATIVE SUPPORT , kmobs n other devs. Nexus has a better dev support too. Intelligent than other phones users (sorry had to say this. Saw users for other phones n think n1 has better users. N1 has a better form factor. There are countless more advantages
Evo.- just better multi touch n bigger LCD screen n less dpi. 4g=3g it doesn't increase speed but 4g is less congested as it handles traffic better than 3g. See the incredible. It will not get root anytime soon and its camera is worse than n1, more megapixels doesn't mean better photo

The "more dpi" argument is moot because of the way the nexus's screen is; I can very easily discern individual pixels without being very close to the screen; in contrast, i dont believe that problem will exist with the tft lcd.
"4g doesnt increase speed" Who told you that?? If it didnt increase speed then there would hardly be any point.
Haha, what's with the Evo hate guys?
This phone will bring a *HUGE* surge to the spread of Android. If marketed well and the device is issue-free, it'll be another shot of adrenaline like what Verizon did with the Droid Does campaign.
Evo is amazing. Nexus Two will be amazing just as well.
Enough with the Android-on-Android hate. The real enemy is the FRUIT!

Exactly! Once Android becomes the dominant mobile OS we will crush our real enemies... stupid apple phanboys!
Be happy for fellow android EVO users, were all in this together...
I'm not sure if it's just marketing or not, but Sprint has always seemed to me as the "big boys" smartphone ring. Like executive and top level type people that use sprint.
Nice hardware, but god damn it's ugly!
The only turn off about this phone is the extra $10 4G fee even if your city doesn't have 4G yet.

Once again the folks at the Forbidden Fruit company are a step ahead. I love my phone but with a company like HTC who is growing at such a fast pace, they should have stepped up and provided these features before the monopolized company did.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not *****ing about my Incredible because it is a fantastic phone but the war is waged and as always Apple is ahead of the game. (And all my stupid iPhone friends are gloating.. )

This would be the same Apple that just introduced multi-tasking and folders?
Oh yeah, they're way ahead of the game, if you're the kind of person to get duped into donating money to something called a 'Genius Bar' for that technology that's so intuitive you never need any help with it.
We will probably get 720p recording via a hack soon since the N1 just got it.

Point taken, I realize that HTC has technology that came out before Apple. Maybe its just a marketing thing and they already have these things for the next Gen but I figured it would be a hell of a smashing of Apple if those simple things were available, especially with how powerful this phone already is..

There's no maybe about it - 720p recording is limited by software, not HTC, and has already been done with the N1, likely a part of Froyo for the DI.
And video conferencing? Well, Apple can make it sound like it's leading the way there all they want. HTC and Android did it before the 4g with the Evo, and there have been other videoconferencing phones before that as well (Nokia stands out in my mind).
And would someone care to explain to me why videoconferencing only over WiFi is such a big deal? That's not a minor limitation - if they wanted to do something useful/groundbreaking, it'd be possible to videoconference over 3/4G. Of course, if that were the case, what's left of the AT&T network would collapse in the first day.

even voice over wifi takes up too much bandwidth, the man himself had to tell everybody to get off the wifi so his "revolutionary" POS can make a video call, I laughed when I read the specs and laughed even harder when his video calling didn't work, and the video calling is limited to IOS 4 users only, so no video calling g-ma like he wants because g-ma would need an iphone with IOS 4 on it but she is smart enough not to get an apple product. (well mine is anyway) even unrooted my DI is better than that thing.
I had a Motorola Razor x from europe that had a front camera back in 04 or 05. It did me no good when I came back to the states because no carriers supported video conferencing so it is not a new technology like they try to make it out to be....

To the OP, there will always be some things that one phone has that another doesn't, you just have to pick your poison. I could easily be using an EVO right now (I actually switched from Sprint to Verizon and I have 4G coverage in my area), but I decided I wanted to go with the Incredible. Something new will always be coming out that has features you wish you had on your phone (it doesn't help that iPhone fanboys will taunt you mercilessly on the web if they find out you don't have one and they do; it's even worse in real life).
Also when I say "fanboys", first it could apply to any sex and also I am not referring to the causal or even hardcore fans (fanboys are people that live for creating flamebait where it need not exist). I made enough money programming and then selling off several APIs for the iPhone OS 2.x/3.x (sorry I just think iOS looks weird) to pay back most of my student loans so sure I like the iPhone/iPod Touch (never got to work with an iPad); at the same time I would never have an iPhone as my primary mobile phone by choice.
Also I hadn't heard about the Incredible receiving an upgrade and/or hack for 720p recording, but I've always felt that it had that ability so that's nice to see.
A little biased opinions here as well, including myself. In many regards the incredible is better but let's face some facts that the iPhone has done some groundbreaking stuff in terms of hardware and software. They have proof in units they have pushed.
In the end I would still rather have the Inc rooted or unrooted vs iPhone jail broken or not. I've tried both and hardware wise Inc wins even though iPhone screen is better in response. Os wise android wins again. Hands down.
We incredible users have the exact same camera as the Evo 4g which is 720p supported.. so it has nothing to do with the hardware, but the software. It is inevitable that someone will make a hack and unlock the true potential of the incredible camera.

It's not just the camera that is needed for this, the chipset also needs to support it. Of course the incredible chipset is the same as the Evo, so you're good there.

New retina technology is impressive but Samsung already has an answer to that, Super AMOLED. its only a matter of time before HTC starts purchasing those screens, just like it buys AMOLED and putting them on their phones

Take a step back. I'm still using a K850i from Sony Ericsson when I'm out of the USA that was made at least 4 maybe 5 years ago. It had video conferencing on it using a 3G network. That is the Europe/Asia boys for you. This phone was not sold in the USA by any of the locally known carriers. Check the specs. That long ago with a xenon flash and 5 meg camera. The USA is still playing catch up. I am still looking for the phone running on an Android platform, can work on All USA, Asia, and European networks GSM & CDMA with a high quality camera. Don't get me wrong but the K850i photos run rings around the Incredible. That said, the Incredible is still my favorite.
I was on break with some coworkers and we were all adding each other on Facebook. They both had I phones and I had my EVO. One of them could not get a signal in the break room, the other had one bar and was on EDGE but it was super slow. I had 4 out of six bars and 3g. I turned on the hotspot and they all connected over wifi and was impressed with how fast their phones were going being connected to mine. They started asking me what else my phone can do and I gave them a nice demo of the EVO and the benefits of root. One is for sure is dumping Att because of the lousy EDGE coverage and the other was still trying to justify her iPhone, Maybe a few more hotspot sessions she might realize what she's missing out on.
I just thought I share this story with y'all.
Nice!

What ARE the "first" eye-catching benefits you show off? When comparing your Evo to iPhone? What about to people about rooting?
I ask this because when I get in discussions like that, it's not like we need the tethering or anything at that time, and I feel dumb showing them the HTC Sense UI and all that when they just reply "Well my iPhone does the same sliding back and forth" blah blah..
So what apps/features do you think really makes an iPhone user go ".. wow.. damn that's cool." ??
I let two iphone users tether last week due to their lack of signal lol

I turned someone to the evo last night my self told him about the 8mp cam that shoots 720p video and the front facing camera that can do video calls without haveing to be on wifi, and the much larger screen with an awesome 480p display that although doesn't compare the the Iphone4 in color resoution it still kicks its ass with its bright wvga oled screen. thats a really good story OP. i got into an argument with a buddy about iphone vs android(it's never-ending). I started to gain the upper hand when i explained that i could customize my kernel, rom, menus, launchers, icons etc to my exact needs. then i lost ground when i showed him my layout(which is using iphone-esque icons) and he accused me of trying to imitate the best. i tried to explain that i simply liked the uniform look of similar icons and that iphone was NOT the first to use these, but it was too late.
point is, we're most like always gonna be "at war" with the iSheep. i love hearing a story where an EVO shows them up! nice work.

This.
<rant>
Just because I use icons that resemble an iPhone does not mean that I want an iPhone. It's simply that it is much more aesthetically pleasing to have your icons match in shape, size, design, etc. It also makes usability better by more easily identifying the icons based on color.
</rant>
Anyways, good story! Sorry to kind of thread-jack hah
I usually do the "widget" thing.....Iphone can't compare. I want to change my "style", I can change it via sense.....easy, I can add and remove whatever I want....Iphone can't compare. And as for signal, AT&T sucks where I am at, so that's an easy win
But if you really and to impress them, show them your monthly cell phone bill
I hate iPhone users..well not really. I love the people, but hate the attitude they develop when talking about their iDevice. It's ridiculous. Me being on Android they are so quick to talk about how the iPhone is killing Android...even though all evidence points to the opposite. Once I bring that up then they want to talk about interface and whatnot...which is dumb, what's more customizable than an Android phone?
Nobody wants to give credit to Android, a platform that started from nothing not to long ago, the iPhone came out a year before the first android device but the iPod and Mac lineup has been out for far longer and it's a pain in the ass that people don't want to give Google credit because they just came out with their first device 2 years ago and now they are kicking ass.
Now I just put the Android v Apple debate in a category along with debating Music and Politics. Everyone thinks they know everything about those subjects and that's why they argue...even if they dont know anything themselves, they'll just begin repeating waht they heard someone say a while ago and then the debate goes nowhere. I just find it easier to agree with the iPhone users when they bash Google and Android. Since they don't know much themselves they can only say a few things against Android and once you agree, argument over.
Most off these arguments are against AT&T and not the iPhone itself. Either way it's pretty much a given that Verizon is getting the iPhone now, what then?
One last thing, how many of you pay fort tethering? None of you? You all root? Guess what? You can jail break a iPhone and get free hotspot tethering too.

Just the fact that my phone provided them service where att failed them miserably was the main thing that caught their attention and of course the bigger screen. These were not techy people like us, and for the record, besides the typical stock apple apps they had the same 3rd party apps I did: angry birds, blackjack, Skype, Facebook App, aim, etc. I wowed them with music junk 3, ADW launcher, set CPU, swarm, Sprint hotspot, and adfree Android. I did mention that rooting the phone allowed me to remove all the sprint bloatware. Yea I know i was kinda giving them a sales pitch but I did make the iPhone look obsolete and limited IMO.

You can jailbreak a iPhone and get many of the things you just mentioned (widgets, ad blocking, torrent clients, over clocking, hotspot).
Usually a video call over 3g shuts them up... But if not i go to www.mobilespeedtest.com and show them how my 3g is 2-3 times faster than theyre's and 4g is 10 times faster, Custom launchers (launcherpro), ADW, Netfront, Soundhound finds songs in 2-3 seconds theyre app takes 20-30 seconds, change my camera setting, widgets there are many things the iPhone cannot do and the EVO or android period can do but alot of them like smaller phones so EVO is out or just the name "i have an iPhone"... AT&T's 3G network is 80% HSPA+ meaning that you can get 3-5 Mbps on the iPhone 4 like you can here where I live. Video calling over 3G? You can: 1) Jailbreak and use Facetime over 3G, or 2) Use Fring, Tango, or Yahoo video chat over 3G without jail breaking.

In all honesty, no...
Don't get me wrong, the EVO is a great phone but it was by no means "revolutionary"
The only revolutionary phones android has had thus far were the G1 and nexus one, the next revolutionary phone will be the dual cores..
The evo didn't add anything vital to android, although HDMI and front camera were nice additions they are by no means revolutionary.
Ummm YEA! First american phone to have video chat. I think the first 1ghz processor. and what was that other thing oh ya 4G (unless you live where it ain't, then not so revolutionary)

I'm going to get flamed for this, but I feel as if the iPhone is the only phone (In the era of the touchscreen smartphone) that can be called revolutionary. There was nothing even remotely like it in existence. Without Apple's ingenuity in the first generation iPhone, we wouldn't even be talking about Android/WP7 in the same context as we are now.
PS. I love my Evo and I switched from 3 years of using the iPhone because of 4G and a front facing camera. Things that were not very common last year, but to me, these are more evolutionary changes as opposed to revolutionary.

Chinese "clones" all the way! First FM tuners, first analog TV tuners, first DTV tuners, first out of the box dual boot, penta-band, quad sim and so on. If it will fit in a phone they put it in or make the phone bigger. If you think I'm joking, look here:

How is it psuedo 4g? HSPA+ is psuedo 4g, Sprint is allowed to use the term 4g because there wasn't a standard when they started using it, but they ARE allowed to use it. I'll agree its not the fastest thing in the world or anything but still.
The iphone brought smartphones to the masses (even stupid people can use an iphone). The evo brought android to the masses.

I know that there was a change to what can be rightfully called 4g but Clear at its fastest still isn't faster than HSPA+ at its fastest. On top that, I was already pulling 4-5 Mbps on a non-HSPA+ phone on ATT HSPA during the summer before the EVO's launch. 4-10 Mbps really wasn't the giant leap I was expecting, especially since its use case was severely limited due to it's high power consumption and poor signal in buildings.
...and the EVO brought Android to the masses? Are you kidding? People still call my EVO a Droid.

Verizon made the public aware of Android by heavily commercializing the Droid line of phones. Therefore any Android you will have will be referred to as a Droid because the common public is dumb and believes anything that is hyped up.

Nothing like it? Symbian/Blackberry/WM6.5 were nothing like it?
Only thing Apple did was make it more accessible to the public and gloss the **** out of it.
Not revolutionary.

I agree and disagree, you see Apple/ mac is beyond great at marketing, but the only thing that Iphone did was put all those features in ONE device!!
I recall HP Ipaq (one with a rotating camera), and Motorola a1200 Ming for touch screen, Samsung had a motion sensor on a sprint flip phone, it was used to play a dice game. But there was no great marketing for the hp devices.
See Apple/Mac did creative marketing to make it feel like you HAVE to have one to be cool and trendy and if you own one you are part of the cool group, at least that is what I gather.
it's funny how Apple makes it seem like they are great, but industry wise Palm before the merger used to have along list of patents like no other. and some stuff is just great no matter how much or how little marketing is made.
take for example, during the auto bust when manufactures were loosing money one company grew by 18% it was an import and it was not Honda nor Toyota. it was Subaru, and the reason was that when a Subaru owner decides to buy another car, their next car is a Subaru.
Toyota has had a major recall/ car issue in the past few years, Honda i have not seen has not or has not had one that was in the media, Subaru has very few recalls. For me quality is very well at Subaru, and is the one manufacture that ALL their cars are on the iihs top safety picks for 2010, not just one.
Not saying that Honda, toyota and other imports make crap cars, and some may argue that Subaru style is lacking, and i may agree, i like functionality over form.
I am a minimalist but the Iphone is not for me.
Android is good, the Evo is my first introduction to android, and i agree with everyone it is a phone that has not me eyeballing other phone whatsoever. I am eagerly awaiting what Palm/HP has in store for mobile devices this year. and probably will jump back to webOS when 2.0 and the new device on spring comes out on sprint, if the specs are similar or better than Evo.
