I have heard that if your phone is hardware locked that this is considered a manufacturer defect and you can return you phone for a replacement for free.
Does anyone know if this is true? and if it is, who do i contact and what do i tell them?
I took mine back to the tmobile store. I showed them how mine wont boot to recovery. Or you could call customer service, but you have to wait longer.

i work in a tmo store and i have taken a few back and exchanged due to not getting into recovery. it shouldn't be an issue if you bought it recently and phone is in like-new condition, although it depends on the store you go to
Usually its only 14 days (30 if you live in CA) to exchange in store. You can always go through customer care and order a replacement.

After waiting for a whole damn hour in line to get a phone serviced
They said they will not service any phone without an invoice
Also Samsung has officially extended the warranty from 15/30 days to 60 days
So any phone that dies within those 60 days it'll basically be replaced, but for that to happen you will need an invoice.
They said they are NOT honouring the eBay purchases, so anyone who purchased through eBay... good luck.
oh, also the phone must be LOCKED, if it's UnLocked they will also not service it.
Any phone after the 61 days will be serviced regardless of where it was purchased, but... for that you will need an invoice, $45 submission fee, and whatever it cost for the repair when you pick it up.
I sure hope I get a new handset - I'll note the IMEI/production date # when I get my replacement back in a few weeks.
i'm pretty sure you will, most Bell stores and resellers are in back order due the low stock of the phone
mainly because of all the repairs and exchanges needed

What issue is this? Are you referring to the issue people are having with the phone turning off on it's own. Or do you mean the phone completely dies and your not able to turn it back on at all?
it's for any type of service you want to do with the phone

? What did you do with your phone? Mine's just fine. I'm confused and did I did not read much on here since the last few days.
my phone is fine, i was just doing a favour to the guys in USA having trouble with getting the phone serviced by Bell "because you don't have an account with us, we have no way to charge you"
*crosses fingers* Hopefully mine won't wig out.
It's my phone. Luckily the original owner still has the invoice so we should be able to get it repaired unless Bell comes out with another excuse.
Guess I better put those how to re-lock instructions somewhere safe...
Yeah, kinda jumped the gun buying itslick off ebay, make sure you print out the ebay invoice for records.
You can still get it serviced after the 60 days period

I bought mine at Best Buy. They WON'T honour it AT ALL! So they send me to a Bell store. The Bell store sends me back to BB. BB sends me back to Bell... this happens 4 more times in each store, which ends up with me really pissed off cause I have a receipt for the phone that I bought out right from BB. BB totally refuses to exchange my phone, and says you have to go to the manufacturer now, so the tech at the bell store said since I didn't buy the phone from a "Bell store" they can't replace it and they can only send it out for repair. EVEN THOUGH its been way LESS than 30 days. (18 to be exact) So, I had no other choice but to send it out to be repaired. Its been 2 weeks, and still "out for repair". They tell me to check back next week. I can't believe I couldn't even get an exchange since my phone definitely qualifies under Samsung's DOA (30 days) policy, and the bell tech even admitted it too. Who cares where I bought it from! I have a Best Buy recepit, and OBVIOUSLY BB gets their stock from BELL!
So the 60 day period for exchange is ONLY if you bought it from a BELL store. >.<

Is this standard operating procedure across the board for Canadian carriers? If so it is a total night and day difference from us in the States where the point of sale is responsible for 30 days, Carrier for the next 11 months, and the manufacturer stays out of it.
The only manufacturer I have ever had honor a warranty directly was HTC and that was after hours of arm wringing over the phone.
Brutal! The damn thing is locked to Bell's network, Best Buy is an authorized seller of Bell phones and plans. I got mine from Best Buy on launch day for the 99 buck sale with $75 gift card. The next day I went to a Bell store to swap numbers with my other phone and got the phone insurance while I waited. They have to give me a new phone even if I smash it on the counter right in front of them. Covers wear and tear also.

HTC and Palm were very straight forward if you purchased the phone unlocked from factory, they will not hesitate to give you a RMA number to send the phone back for repairs
Bell has always been a biatch to deal with, in ANYTHING.
Samsung has their hands tied due their Exclusive Deal with Bell, so... until that exclusive deals expires, Samsung wont be able to help you directly.
by late October when Rogers releases the Galaxy S (AT&T model) things should have settled down by then, and it should be a better experience dealing with Samsungs own Customer Service rather than Bell's well known nightmare CS, same crap from Rogers CS, that's why i switched to Fido, they are only CS that are more human
May i know what u mean about lock and unlock for hanfphone

But isn't Fido owned by Rogers? Odd that they run them independently with different policies like that.
SIM lock / unlock
originally this model i9000m was locked to Bell, no body else was supposed to use it outside of Bell
so if you send it your phone for service, other than Flash related problem, they will know your phone was unlocked
if the flashed is screwed up, they can't check it at all, and that will pass
but if the phone is bootable, and they can get into the OS, then they'll know if it was SIM unlocked or not
like if you are sending the phone for service because of a screen problem, or speaker problem, or some other thing that does not involved a dead phone
so either kill it good before you send it in, or wipe all traces of evidence

Next trip to Canada I am getting a Fido prepaid account then to support a decent company. Usually I just get a Rogers SIM if my prepaid account is inactive (Rogers keeps them active for 2-3 years without adding funds.)
How can I get a replacement from T-Mobile after the original 14 days? I'm off contact. Should I call customer loyalty? I've been a customer for 7 years.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
If you pre-ordered it over the phone you'll have to call, if you bought at the store just walk in and tell 'em what's going on.
If they refuse to send you a new one then choke someone.... Kiddin' aside though, I'm sure they'll replace it as long as you reason with them.
I just got a mytouch 4g on Friday, but stupid me, I bought it at a mall kiosk and not directly from T-Mobile. When I got home, I discovered that all 4 corners on the soft rubbery touch back have scratches/gouges, and the retailer REFUSES to exchange my phone for a non damaged one. Does anyone know if I can buy this part and just swap it out myself, without having to pay a $130 claim on my brand new phone I just spent $200 on?

You are allowed by law to return the handset for any reason within 14 days (30 days in California). Have a talk with your retailer.
Yeah I work at a corporate store.. You have to get the kiosk to exchange it otherwise you're stuck.. I would just go back and next time only deal with corporate

If you work at a corporate store, why on earth would you buy it at a kiosk? BTW, report that place and get off the TMO approved list, we don't want people like that selling out stuff.
Next, cnn.cn usually has parts for most phones but being this is a us only release it looks to not have them. I would keep checking back there, they may just end up with some parts. Also look for water damaged not operational parts only sales on ebay.
Please post questions in Q&A section.
I have already been dealing with both the kiosk and corporate - and neither one will budge, and the kiosk is telling me they won't take the phone back at all (not to exchange or cancel the account). Corporate wants me to get insurance on it, then pay $130 for a claim to get it replaced. I'd rather just buy the part and fix it myself, at this point, it's not like it's a hard thing to fix. I've been going back and forth for the last 3 days - I guess I just get to keep a banged up phone. At least is works.
(And yes, this morning the corporate rep I spoke to put my complaint into the system, they don't like the way I'm being treated either, but they told me they can't force the reseller to take the phone back).

What the f*** Tmobile? I just asked for a warranty replacement for my Samsung Vibrant (dead usb) port, and while it is second hand, the IMEI is on my account but Tmobile says it is not under warranty! They need a proof of purchase to verify the warranty!
yup. phone warranty isn't transferable. try contacting samsung.
So I have this second hand also but I buy the $6 insurance that doesn't work?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
But did TMobile change their policy? My previous second hand phones had no problems with warranty.
if you do not have insurance on the phone, than yes to use the warranty it has to be the phone that was purchased. Second hand phones will not be covered.
HOWEVER if you do have insurance, as long as it is a registered T-Mobile device (IE it says "T-Mobile" on it) than they WILL replace it. If the store that you go to gives you trouble with it, call T-Mobiles customer service number, and they will either tell the rep that it is okay to do it, OR ship you out a new phone, and you will have to mail your old one in. ( if you dont mail it in within a time frame, you will be charged full retail for the phone that was mailed to you )
If you call assurion which is the insurance company that does the claims they will help u I had the same priblem they helped me dont go thru t mobile they will give u a song n dance

Basically this.
Its the most detailed one here and explains all options.
I have gone through t mobile and have had no issues with warranty exchange as long as you have the insurance before you get the second hand phone!!! It may also depend on what state you are in??????
Follow jAvilon13 advice you are doing anything in a store yoiu are doing it via phone
Does anyone know if the warranty for the Nexus 7 (if purchased in the USA direct from the Google Play store) is transferable to a new owner?
I pre-ordered my Nexus 7 16GB during the Google IO announcement, and this weekend something on it borked out. Screen shut off and I couldn't turn it back on, and when I plugged it in the screen had a weird snowy/static pattern (accompanied by static crackling sound from the speaker).
I called Google and they are sending a replacement (that I basically had to order through the google play store but they are not charging my credit card unless I don't return the defective one).
So the reason that I ask is that I might just sell the replacement one since I now have a Galaxy Note 2 and the N7 isn't all that useful to me anymore. Can I claim that it is still under warranty until July (1 year from the date when I received the first one)?

I believe you could, but the best thing to do would be to call Google and speak with them yourselves. Although, I am sure that warranty transfer is possible

Yes. I called Google and they confirmed it and sent me an email I can provide to a future buyer that explains how they can get service.
Thanks!

Did the buyer then get the months that were left on the warranty?
Yes it is. I bought mine off of Ebay from some guy for 170$. The USB port was broken completely (wouldn't connect to any computer). I asked him about a return and he said I was S.O.L and to call Asus. So I just kept using it for another week or two until randomly it just shut down and wouldn't ever reboot again no matter what I tried. So I bit the bullet and called them. I gotta say they have OUTSTANDING customer support. All he asked for was the serial number and told me it was still under warranty period. I didn't even have to show a receipt or anything. They must be able to get purchase records by serial number or something. Anyways, he emailed me a FedEx pre-paid shipping label and less than an hour after getting off the phone with them I was shipping my Nexus at absolutely no cost to me. I sent it in to them Unlocked running a Rootbox nightly and a custom kernel. I recieved it today EXACTLY 10 days after shipping it out. It did get wiped ( I expected that) and it's running the stock 4.2.2. But it works great now and I can connect to my computer now.
In short, YES, it is transferable as long as it really is under the warranty period.
Asus, has EXCELLENT customer support in my experience and I would recommend them to anyone.
