[Q] Warranty from Google Play store? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if the warranty for the Nexus 7 (if purchased in the USA direct from the Google Play store) is transferable to a new owner?
I pre-ordered my Nexus 7 16GB during the Google IO announcement, and this weekend something on it borked out. Screen shut off and I couldn't turn it back on, and when I plugged it in the screen had a weird snowy/static pattern (accompanied by static crackling sound from the speaker).
I called Google and they are sending a replacement (that I basically had to order through the google play store but they are not charging my credit card unless I don't return the defective one).
So the reason that I ask is that I might just sell the replacement one since I now have a Galaxy Note 2 and the N7 isn't all that useful to me anymore. Can I claim that it is still under warranty until July (1 year from the date when I received the first one)?

I believe you could, but the best thing to do would be to call Google and speak with them yourselves. Although, I am sure that warranty transfer is possible

Did the buyer then get the months that were left on the warranty?

Yes it is. I bought mine off of Ebay from some guy for 170$. The USB port was broken completely (wouldn't connect to any computer). I asked him about a return and he said I was S.O.L and to call Asus. So I just kept using it for another week or two until randomly it just shut down and wouldn't ever reboot again no matter what I tried. So I bit the bullet and called them. I gotta say they have OUTSTANDING customer support. All he asked for was the serial number and told me it was still under warranty period. I didn't even have to show a receipt or anything. They must be able to get purchase records by serial number or something. Anyways, he emailed me a FedEx pre-paid shipping label and less than an hour after getting off the phone with them I was shipping my Nexus at absolutely no cost to me. I sent it in to them Unlocked running a Rootbox nightly and a custom kernel. I recieved it today EXACTLY 10 days after shipping it out. It did get wiped ( I expected that) and it's running the stock 4.2.2. But it works great now and I can connect to my computer now.
In short, YES, it is transferable as long as it really is under the warranty period.
Asus, has EXCELLENT customer support in my experience and I would recommend them to anyone.

Where is the Best Place to Buy the Nexus 7? (UK)

I bought a Nexus 7 from Tesco Direct. They are only of the only retailers who have them in stock still.
They are able to to deliver to your nearest Tesco store, even a small Tesco Express store the very next day for you to pick up.
I had to issue of screen separation, I was able to return and get a refund very easily over the phone. They will come to collect the Nexus 7 and refund in 3 to 5 days.
I called Google, who said that they are aware of this issue which has been fixed by Asus, which means all the new Nexus 7 are fixed according to them.
I wish to know if this is true?
1) Are the new Nexus 7's fixed of this problem?
2) Are Google Play good and fast as taking goods returned and refunding?
3) Do they meet their delivery times?
4) Do you have to pay for any postage to return the item or anything?
Normally I only buy from retail stores, which means any time i have an issue i can go to the store and sort the problem out quickly.
However i am worried about buying from Tesco's even though they have very good service, I am worried i will get the older stock which still hast this screen separation problem, as they may have the older stock.
But i am also concerned about buying from Google Play because of the hassle of dealing with someone on the phone and posting the item back and waiting for delivery and so on. However i do not mind buying from them if it is true that all the new Nexus 7's being sold by Google Play are fixed of them problem.

Hard to say if they have indeed fixed all of the issues... They say that they have addressed the screen separation issue and I can attest to that. As for taking returns, refunds, and exchanges Deff call them if you have any problems. The Google rep that I spoke with was very pleasant and more than willing to send me a replacement unit for my tablet which had dead pixels and a bad digitizer. The tablets are shipped via UPS 2 business days and my first tab took 4 days to get to me, called Google Friday and ordered my replacement the same day and it shipped Saturday. And to answer ur final question should u need a replacement Google will put a temporary charge on ur card for the replacement unit and they will email u shipping labels and RMA forms so u can get the exchange and once u receive the replacement just box up the defective unit and ship it back and they will remove the charge from ur card. Overall my experience with Google has been excellent and I would highly recommend doing business with them

[Q] Google Play returns policy

Hi all
I have just bought my son a Nexus 7 for Christmas from Google play, it came on the 9th December. I have heard about the quality issues that can plague this little tablet, such as raised screen issues etc.
My question is, obviously when my son opens this up on Christmas day it will be past the 15 day returns policy that Google Play adopt, so should it be faulty where do we stand with getting a replacement? i would not want a refund just a brand new Nexus 7.
i know i know i should open it up and test it out now....but the wife simply refuses to let me (you dont have to live where her :laugh
Any help would be appreciated

If it is a manufacturer fault then they should either fix or replace it under warranty.

Chris, there are at least several million n7s out there, most of which are fine. People tend to be far more vocal when something is not up to their expectations or has a fault. I have 2 tabs here, one I just bought for my son's crimbo. Both are in immaculate condition. Chances are your tablet will be good as well.

If you're in the UK you are well covered by SOGA, elsewhere I don't know.
In the US, Google Play purchasers have the best post-return period warranty coverage. It is direct through Google. All other retail purchases requiring going through Asus, which is a pain in the Assus. One caveat - Google Play WILL premptively ship you a replacement unit free of charge and let you return your defective one back after you receive it. BUT, they do put a purchase price hold on your card until they get the old unit back. I personally prefer this method, but some people have complained about it. With Asus, you ship your unit back, wait 2-3+ weeks, and then they ship you a replacement or 'fixed' one back.

I think you are confusing the return period (15 days) with the warranty period (1 year). Yes, after 15 days you can no longer return it for a refund, but you can still get it replaced for defects under the standard warranty. Twice that if you used a good credit card.

Nexus 4 warranty return question

So I bought mine from a guy on Craigslist that lives like 100 miles away (we met half way) well I been using it now for a good 2 weeks and I've noticed a wavy line (doesn't seem to actually move) but its a wavy line and it starts from the top left of the screen and just about goes to the bottom of screen. Well you can only see it when the screen is a light gray color.
Well decided I'd call Google play customer support as that's where he says he got it from on November 20th. So I call them and they'll only send the shipping label and the replacement nexus 4 to the guy I bought it from since he's the original owner. Well I then talked Google into another way, which from what she said was have me contact the guy I bought it from and have him put my address/info on his Google Wallet Google page and they'll then send me the replacement nexus and when that is accomplished he can take my info off.
I asked if his c-card or anything like that would be on there and she said no..but then it just hit me that I actually won't even know his Google Wallet log in info to see any of it.
But why Google Wallet? I'm sure he didn't purchase with that?
O and this is pure crap..never in my life has a company did this after me buying a used product.

they are correct in saying that it will be shipped to the guy who bought it only. they cannot directly ship it you, also they will place a hold of $349 for 16gb and $299 for 8gb on the credit card of the owner in Google wallet.
also, if you buy a n4 from the play store it has to purchased through Google wallet.

6P return time: better off with using huawei or google?

I have been following all the heart ack involved with 6p turning off and boot looping. i was lucky i purchased my 129 gig from a friend who purchased new on play store 11/16. june, 2016 i got a free replacement from google has i had a series of issues that could be fixed.
i have called both huawei and google--both will process return
huawei with a 5 day turn around time ie i have no use of a 6p for 5+ days. i have an old back-up which i don't like, but can survive if necessary
-i have read on this board that huawei replaces a mother board and provides a new battery
google will send me a 128 gig 6p, and i have a week to return my troubled 6p a no=brainer or maybe not??????????
-there have been postings here that memebers have received malfunctions replacement phones from google
-read postinga that 128gig phones did not sell well and frequenrly new 6p's are sent
-if google not repairing the mother board, is that a great reason to return through huawei???
any thoughts. i realize that many intelligent people have different opinions as to whether the issues are hard ware or software based?

Hey Bob in Miami; I went with Huawei. I spoke to them on a Sat., they required pictures of all 6 sides of the phone. Then I called them, they checked the pics and told me within 24 hours they will send me via email a return postage label. That came on Monday morning. I formatted my phone, didn't want the slim possibility of anyone getting my data, wrapped it up and dropped it off at UPS on a Tuesday. Of course I got a receipt. My service center was in Texas. I got a notice they got it on Wednesday and received an email Monday telling me they are going to replace it. You have to be home to sign for it, UPS came Wednesday. Like I said elsewhere, mine was a 10/10 and this was about a 9/10. I did get back a 128gb instead of the 32gb I sent them. Time will tell the condition of the new/old phone, but I was OK with the process from Huawei.

Gang i am most concerned about the quality of the repair or replacement device.

G--seems to be shipping some quality replacements and some non-quality replacements.

shipping: google is far superior for me. they send me the replacemnt and i have a full week to return my old phone.
this means i am never without a nexus 6p. google pays all shipping expense
I spent the extra 80 on the replacement plan after three months I had to use it I did my claim and they sent me one before I had to send one. Looked brand new even had to do all the updates

Looking to return my device as it is having the battery issue and the screen is separating from bottom of the chassis. I have Nexus Protect, what do you guys think would be the best route? Also, have any of you had a hold put on their bank account while the return process is active?

Huawei replaced with my motherboard, and with 128GB one instead of 64GB I got originally.

My nexus 5x started boot looping last week. Luckily for me, I was still under warranty at least until the end of the month. I just got my replacement from google.

I don't know about you, but Google just replaced my phone ,out of warranty, for free. Great customer service, in my opinion.

Did you root the phone or did anything else to phone before you sent it to google to replace it. I am out of warranty but was rooted , I have taken phone apart and heated the samsung chip which stop the bootloop for a week, but know it is bootlooping again.

Where did you buy it? If from Google, they may replace it even if it was rooted and out of warranty.
Both Google and LG have been replacing devices outside of warranty for bootloops. If you tried earlier and they denied you try again, Google is your best chance if you bought it from the Google Store or Google Fi.

I was rooted, but I was able to boot it into the bootloader and fastboot the stock IMG on it. I told them I was rooted and unlocked over the phone, and they didn't seem to care at all.
I bought it from Amazon but Google is saying to contact LG and LG is wanting me to send it in for 2 weeks for a repair. They won't do a replacement or loaner.

Keep trying. I called Google yesterday and got a replacement phone. --- First time I called, the Google Rep told me that since I was out of warranty, it was LG's issue. Then, I was transferred to LG and they said they same thing and wanted me to send my phone for repair.
Frustrated, (especially after hearing of the lawsuit) I called Google again. I got another Rep, and she was so kind and helpful. She said "to be honest" a lot of other Nexus 5X owners are experiencing the same problem. She spoke to a "specialist" and said that I qualified for an extension of my warranty. I'm getting a replacement Nexus 5X in a couple days (I spent extra for priority shipping). She also mentioned that my new Nexus will have an extended warranty if I have the bootloop issue again.
I will say, I bought my phone from the Google Store. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Yes. I am being charged for the new Nexus (as a "hold") on my account until they receive my phone with the boot loop issue. They'll confirm that the old Nexus has the issue (supposedly), and then remove the charge from my credit card.
My guess is that LG will send you a brand new phone. So you may not be able to get the replacement from Google.

Buying from the Google store would be the reason you're​ dealing with Google store support. Everyone else must go through LG, though LG is currently repairing devices out of warranty at least.
Sent mine into LG and they replaced the motherboard on it and it's being sent back right now. Overall, from me putting it in the mail and getting it back, it will be a week.

Same here. Three months out of warranty, but LG replaced the mainboard, no questions asked. Only cost to me was shipping to Texas. Visit LG support website and get a return authorization number.

So far, so good. Still on 7.1.1. Kinda afraid of upgrading, 'cause the 7.1.2 beta is what seemed to kill the last one.

Just received my Nexus back from LG warranty repair after a week and a half without it and using a Droid 4 in the meantime(which sucks). Sent in a black Nexus 5x and received a white Nexus 5x with black scuff marks on it. Right now I'm trying to get them to send me a different one but they won't. Trying to work my way up to the supervisor. The only option they have for me is to send it in again and hope they put a black back on it that isn't in used condition.
