Super loose hinge and rebooting problems, how so I get a replacement - G2 and Desire Z General

How can I get a replacement from T-Mobile after the original 14 days? I'm off contact. Should I call customer loyalty? I've been a customer for 7 years.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

If you pre-ordered it over the phone you'll have to call, if you bought at the store just walk in and tell 'em what's going on.
If they refuse to send you a new one then choke someone.... Kiddin' aside though, I'm sure they'll replace it as long as you reason with them.

If your replacement phone comes without battery/sdcard/back cover... it's a REFURB

My original phone was broken (when I bought it). When they sent me a new one, it came in a cardboard box, no battery, no sdcard, no battery cover.
Called in to make sure it's new... "well to tell you the truth sir, it's reconditioned like-new.... no we can't replace it, because the phone that you sent to us was used, so we had to send you a used one.... I'm sorry sir, theres nothing we can do."
buyer beware...
thats usually how it works, especially with a phone in such high demand
except that Verizon policy states that if you're within your 30 period, you can replace your phone with a BRAND NEW one
I've decided that if customer support won't send me a new one, there's nothing stopping me from just going around them. Since I'm still within 30 days, I'm going to simply return my phone for a refund of my purchase price, and order a new one.

that would work but what will you do when you hit the 31st day and you have problems then you will have to take the refurb.
That is not necessarily true. O had to have my droid 1 replaced 3 times 2 of the 3 were brand new phone in return boxes according to the verizon rep I spoke to.

or I can get a phone that has no problems.... just because you say "what will you do when" doesn't mean its something that's going to happen
My point is that when you send your xbox 360 in for repair they either repair it or send you a refurb and i bet you plug it in and play it. This is the same with phones so why is it a big deal if it works?

I would agree after 30 days. But before it you should get a new replacement device not a like new device.
I'd just tell them that the phone they sent you was BROKEN so since you paid for a NEW phone you want a new phone.

TBH sometimes if you describe the loophole you described to the person you're talking to, they will help you out.
I've literally told customer service reps for various things I've owned that I can simply do that, and they usually oblige.
Very true; i started having issues with my droid and customer service informed me that i would have to put up money for the replacement device. After they received the failed device they would credit my account.

There are two type of replacements for the x only within 30 days. First would be a wfg which would come with charger etc. and would be back ordered. The second would be only the phone and for a doa which you had they are new searching the esn shows no other activation s. This one is only for the x atm.
I'm a vzw tech btw and have no reason to lie
I went round and round about this with them. You are getting new ones in the little white boxes without the battery (for now)
I'm not sure it's "refurb" providers send phones without the bact etc to help avoid people calling in pretending their phone broke and then selling one and keeping the other. I know you aren't doing that, but I'm sure that plays a part it why they do it like that.

yeah there are usually no refurbs around when a phone first comes out. so they set aside news ones to send out in the refurb cardboard box. saves them money of all the accessories w/ shipping, u keeping them, etc.\
i bet the phone is new.

addressing hinge issue

so after running around 7 stores and making 18 different calls to t-mobile, htc and radio shack, they all came with the same conclusion: htc told them that the loosey goosey hinge is not a defect, it is the way its supposed to be so that the phone can be opened with ease. all i could do was laugh because i knew t-mobile was full of ****. as pissed off as i was, i remembered "you get what u pay for". since i only have two days left on my buyers remorse from radio shack (149.99 price tag), i'm going to return the phone tomorrow, cancel the plan and go over to costco and buy it for $50 dollars. no need dealing with this for $150 when i can b dealing with it for $100 less i gotta say i still love this damn phone though
It's not an issue for me since I don't hold my phone upside down in a weird way.
I did the same, I visit 2 tmo stores, and they test 3 new boxes, and is not a problem, the phone came like this...
Be careful doing that. There was a post earlier about canceling and not being able to go to costco for the cheaper phone.

and who in the f*ck will tell me i can shop around since t-mobile stores blows enough * explicit* in order not to price match. i havent seen any legal documents stating that i cant do what is legal and fair. why pay 250 (mail-in-rebate) when u can pay $50. its ridiculous not to
Tmobile can reject you order for service since you canceled. They can make you wait alonger time before they allow yiu service. Its maily the system tho

Stupid corporates. I hope they dont.
I had my first G2 on pre order and received it from the very first batch, sent it back due to shutting itself off for no reason. They sent me a 2nd phone with a hinge so loose it was ridiculous In my opinion. I called and sent that one back as well. I talked with someone about this issue and said that if I could not receive a G2 with a tite hinge then cancel my order. He told me he was sending me a phone from the latest batch from htc that they had addressed this loose hinge problem and my new G2 should be perfect. Time will tell. I refuse to buy a phone with a loose hinge that will only get worse not better. Owning the Nexus One with no slide out keyboard I do not miss the G2. IMO there is no device that feels like the Nexus One in your hand. I should receive my new G2 in a few days and will let the forum know how this hinge problem worked out. I probably would have not returned my 2nd phone but my 1st phone the hinge was very tite and I know how it should feel. Not being fussy but just want a good phone.

how tight was the hinge on your first g2? were you able to turn the phone face down and have the top part of the screen not fall?
@vinnyjr: Could you please let us know how it works out when you get your new phone? I'm thinking of calling and asking for a G2 from the "new batch" if it really fixes the hinge issue.
honestly guys t-mobile just says sh*t to shut us up. like i said after numerous calls to different reps, they said its the way it should be. ell they even tell t-mobile stores and radio shack employers the same silly sh*t. they are honestly trying to push this issue aside to avoid numerous recalls.
btw i returned my g2 back to radio shack and just got a g2 for 50 bucks at costco so now my 14 day period just started over and im gonna go in the store every other day till i get a g2 with stiff hinge gotta love freedom of choice
I got my G2 September 30th. I'd say that it is "first batch" if there is such a thing. My hinge is tight. I have to really shake my phone hard while holding it upside down to get the phone to swing open.
My buddy just got his G2 2 days ago from a T-Mobile corporate store, and his hinge is very loose.
So from my very limited experience, I doesn't seem like there are "new batch" phones with better hinges.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I just received my fourth G2 from T Mobile yesterday. The first three all had very loose hinges and wildly fluctuating signals or no signals. The trio also had screen freezes, random reboots and turned them selves off from time to time, as well as dropped calls.. The one I received yesterday has very tight hinges and seems to stay connected to H or E much better. So far the only issue has been a dropped call. This last phone just seems smoother and faster and the keyboard does not come out in my pocket as the first three did, I dont know if this is a new batch or not but it definitely operates and has a much better feel and signal retention.
Could someone post a video of their strong hinge? Just to put things in perspective?
Thanks,
Trust me on this one. If you cancel your account then go to Costco; not a problem. T-Mobile may blow smoke because of system issues but in the end they're hemorraging customers so they can credit your account for up to 1/2 the price difference to keep the number of compelled accounts down. Don't believe ' Dateline', you don't wanna talk to a supervisor [you'll first go to a supervisor assistant called a "Senior Rep"...they're hourly also]. Ask for a manager!!! They're the real supervisor's SUPERVISOR! Those lazy a$$holes are not allowed to turn down your call and they hate taking calls so they are overly accommodating. Just be sure not to call on a weekend. There's only one on duty.

Find the Best shop
There are many shops selling duplicate products same as original you cant find the difference because duplicate seems like a xerox copy of original those products are mingled with original and sold over the shops. I think you may experienced such a product. I too had a T-Mobile few weeks back from onlinemobileworld.blogspot.com they are good and they got good collection as it is sold through online the price seem to be better. My suggestion is find the best online shops and compare the best price. I suggest for online shopping because online shopping is cheaper compare to retailer
I bought G2 2 hours ago. Hinge is really loose. I asked the rep that I wanna have the latest batch. I dunno he really did it.
Is there any way to know production date from serial #?
it's totally unfair some got not loose one for the same price.

[Q] Warranty question for non T-Mobile Customer

Okay, so I have Family Mobile. Rebranded pre-pay service sold through Wal-Mart, powered by T-Mobile. Last week I bought a MT4G from a friend to use on my service. Today for some reason, suddenly the WIFI has been WEAK, like unless I literally sit right next to my router I'm out of range. No drops of the phone, nothing. I take VERY good care of it.
My question is, seeing as I'm not officially a T-Mobile customer, is there any way I can get a warranty replacement, and if so how? Would I have to deal directly with HTC? I have no clue what to do here...
Thanks in advance!
I'm wondering the same thing.. Mine broke
All phones come with a one year manufactures warranty on it. Although you may have to have your friend call it in, I'm not to sure about that part. Also if your rooted you will need to change everything back to stock to be processed under warranty.
Sent from MyTouch 4G: CM7 RC2 using XDA App
I emailed HTC and they said that I could get warranty work through them, I just wont have a phone until it's done. Now to begin the unrooting process!
If you had your friend who originally got the phone, call tmobile, they could do a warranty exchange, and that way you could keep your phone till the new one came in the mail...
Sent from MyTouch 4G: CM7 RC2 using XDA App
T-Mobile only warranties phones that are t-mobile branded and that were bought for your line (unless you have a sales receipt but that's tough even if you do)... Even if you have Insurance & Extended warranty they will only warranty a phone bought for your line bought from t-mobile directly (receipt required if from a 3rd party dealer)...
On a better note - I noticed lately that they have been forgetting to check if it was purchased for your line as they forgot with my HD2 which I got on CL from someone who got a warranty exchange and had never turned used it on t-mobile... so its worth a shot...

Ummm... I got a G2 through a trade for an AT&T phone, and I have it on an EM+ plan, with insurance. I then traded that phone for a MT4G, and it turned out the one I traded for has the bad display. 2 days after I got it, T-Mo is sending me a replacement through warranty exchange. They even asked where I got it from.
So yeah... Not sure why you think you need a receipt and proof of purchase. Or maybe I just got REALLY lucky, though I doubt it.

Samsung can be a pain to deal with...

I just wanted to get this out there because I'm curious how common this is. Having previously owned a Nexus One, HTC support was excellent and replaced the phone twice under warranty, no questions asked. Unfortunately, I've had a hard time dealing with Samsung.
I bought my Nexus S on the day of release in December 2010, and had no major problems with it until May of this year. It's the best phone I've ever owned. In May, the screen started becoming unresponsive so I called Samsung and they said I could ship the phone in for repair and they would pay UPS ground shipping each way. I live near San Francisco, so this would be 5 days each way to Plano, TX where the repair facility is located. No problem, I figured, as long as I get my screen fixed. For the meantime I purchased a new Nexus One on Amazon since I would be without a phone for at least a couple weeks. So I sent in the Nexus S, it took them a week to repair the phone after receiving it, so I was without my Nexus S for three weeks.
So I get the phone back and... bam... screen still doesn't work right. it's nearly completely unusable. Turns out they updated the software, tested it as working, then sent it back. I called Samsung again and after escalating to level three and being on the phone for an hour, they agree to do two day shipping each way and replace the screen components. This is fine with me, as long as the phone gets fixed. I sent the phone in again, and while they two day shipping helped, it was still two weeks that I didn't have my phone.
I get the phone back, and of course, the screen STILL didn't work right. It was so bad I couldn't even type out a text. So I call Samsung again, escalate to level three, and pressure to get the phone switched out. The support rep agrees, and says he has to put in an appeal to get the phone switched out. He said he'd call me back within the next few hours with the result of the appeal, which he did, and my request was approved. So I send the phone in again, two day shipping, and it takes about 5 days to be processed and for a refurbished phone to be sent back to me. Unfortunately, then sent it back ground, so it was 5 business days before I got the refurbished phone.
Once I got the refurbished phone, it did have a few nicks and dings, but it worked perfectly, just as my previous Nexus S had prior to May. The funny thing was the refurb was sent to me already running Cyanogen, which leads me to believe they don't QC their refurb phones very thoroughly, but it was okay since everything seemed to be working as it should. But then a couple days later I tried to use the headphone jack and it didn't work at all. It was completely dead. Go. F'in. Figure.
So I called Samsung again, the level one rep agreed to send the phone in for repair, but he couldn't do anything faster than ground shipping and I didn't feel like wasting more time on the phone. The repair facility received the phone yesterday, so we'll see how it goes. I assume a headphone jack will be easier to repair than the screen was.
I guess what irks me the most was I paid $570 (after taxes) to buy the phone outright, and here I really haven't had it since June when I first started to send it in for repair. I've had to waste my time and their time for a problem that should have been fixed on the first occurrence. Thank god I bought a new Nexus One for the meantime. I would also like to mention Best Buy was no help during any of this either. When the problem first started, they kept saying all they could do was work with Samsung to send it in to the repair center, except I would have to pay half of the shipping. That's just crazy to me, but not surprising.
One last thing I can say is everyone I have talked to at Samsung has been friendly. Level 1 and 2 are obviously offshore, while three are within the United States, but it didn't matter, all were equally friendly and seemed to do their best to help me. They just don't seem to have the power to do much other than send a shipping label for repair.
Sorry about the long rant, but I am obviously a bit frustrated by the whole situation. Fingers crossed when I get the phone back in 10 or so days (my estimate) it will be fixed and functioning properly.
I live in Brazil and here the Samsung support are even worse. But what can i do if they have the best phones?
I hope you get your phone back and fixed without any other delay.
Thx for sharing.

I live in the United States too, but when you buy your phone in full, you don't get supported by a carrier. I would have thought Best Buy would assume the role of carrier in this situation, but that wasn't the case.

I live in India, My phone had a motherboard issue and they had to replace it. They told it would take 7 days. But i was without my phone for three weeks. If i had paid money for the new motherboard instead of claiming warranty i would have got it in 3 days.
Samsung service sucks.

It depends on the state, but most don't have rules on warranties. Samsung offers 1 year parts + labor, but Best Buy (who sold me the phone) only have a 30 day policy. So basically I have to live with Samsung's support.

This. I would never go through what you're going through if I can avoid it. Seven bucks a month is so worth it.
Sprint has been kick ass in this regard too. I once brought in my EVO to a repair center to get a hot spot screen replaced and they did it no questions. Another time I went in and asked for a replacement battery door and they just gave me one with no issues. I love Sprint man.

Glad to see im not the only poor soul in this boat. This has got to be one of the worst customer service fiascos i have ever had with Verizon.
We spend this kind of money on a new phone and pay for the insurance and now have to wait when Verzion has phones sitting in their stores.
I dropped mine 2 days after buying it earlier this week, cracked all the way across the screen and must have caused an issue with the digitizer, as its launching apps and other screens randomly. The phone is unusable and i had to reactivate my old Droid X that recently was dropped in a flooded basement at my house.
I have called Asurion and placed the claim same as everyone else and was told they are on back order, called Verizon and they couldnt help, called Motorola and they were of no help as well. I was told by Asurion that we are allowed only 2 claims in a 12 month period and then they will cancel the insurance.
I sent an email to the address in an earlier post and hope to have someone contact me.
On another note, i was told by Verizon that i could not return the phone and exchange for something else if it had been replaced by Asurion for any reason. Now a cash refund for the phone from Asurion would work as i could go get another Maxx or another phone.
Hopefully we all aren't waiting for another month before Motorola decides to release phones to anyone other than Verizon.

I dropped my maxx 14 inches. Screen crack on all four sides of screen.. Call Asurion's .They said backorder, no idea when it will be available. So I waited a week, call asurion back same answer. Then call Verizon still no help even when I told them that they sold me the 3 party insurance and thought they needed to send me a replacement at the same cost as insurance. Well that didn't work. Sent phone to Motorola for repair.still waiting on repair 7 days and still no phone and no idea what it going to cost ...

Asurion is great but their back order system is not great. You basically get put on a notification list not a waiting list. If you don't call seconds away you're in trouble.

im in the same boat. pressure crack. Verizon cant help. I ask the supervisor at Assurion if they can just reimburse Verizon directly. They said no.. that Id have to buy the phone at retail and they would reimburse me minus the 99.00 deductible.
Just emailed Assurion. Lets see what they can do LOL

Hi Dano: We know waiting is never fun. Like most businesses, we try out best to forecast our customer demand. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced as a result of the delay in the Droid Maxx. We are working quickly to get replacements. The purchase for reimbursement is the alternate option available at this time. We are here to help if you wish to exercise this option. Thanks!

What about potentially reimbursing an indirect Verizon agent?

The option available at this time requires that you purchase the phone upfront and a refund check would be sent to you once proof of purchase is received.
