Vibrant faster after removing lag fix? - Vibrant General

So I just removed Ryan's lag fix (in preparation for the latest firmware update released by Samsung - I am waiting for OTA). Odd thing is, the Vibrant feels faster now. Of course quadrant is down to 900ish and I have no scientific data to back it up, but the Vibrant does feel minorly faster. For example, coming out of sleep is more snappy than it was with the lag fix.
Anyone else experience this or is it just in my head?

I always felt that the lag fix slowed down my phone. And please people, stop using quadrant to prove how fast your phone is...that benchmark app is useless to tell how snappy or fast a phone is on everyday use.
Go over to the development section. JAC just released the voodoo lagfix which is 1000x better than any other lag fix.

I used Method 1 of this post to fix the lag
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=727279
And it worked. My lag was dramatically reduced.
Then I switched to Ryan's lag fix because of the 130MB limitation. I found it to be quite a bit laggier than my earlier fix, albeit faster than stock. So I switched back to first lag fix hoping that a real fix would be available before I ran out of the 130MB. So far I'm still within the 130 MB and I have very little lag. The phone is pretty snappy.

Updating to the leaked update is the true lag REMOVAL (no "fix" - it's been cured)

[Q] [Question] Why is Galaxy S lagging?

Hi, I've seen a couple of lag fixes out there and they seem to be working well. But why is it lagging? Slow rom/internal memory card? Bad FAT32 filesystem as one of the fix developers said in a thread?
I am curious about this because if it's hardware problem then I might wait for a bit longer before upgrading my phone and Samsung may be already working on it, but if it's just software then I like to get a new phone now (from my good old E71)
thanks a lot!

While the 16gb hardware is slower then the 1gb rom used it is not why it is lagging..what is causing the lag is Samsung decided to use their proprietary RFS file system which either does not work well with Android in general or has too big of a footprint aka inefficient thus causing a bottleneck of the I/O
cheers, then what about the leaked 2.2 ROM? Has Samsung done any improvement in the I/O performance at all?
I really like this phone but the laggy issue is annoying.
Well looks like not all galaxy s are lagging. You can find many people on forum without this problem. I'm one of them. 55 apps, adw, no task killers and no lags at all.

i'll disagree with the lag
i'm still using the stock ROM on mine, and i don't experience the lags some people are having.
i can browse fast, switch apps fast, play audio/video fast, launch GPS app fast, and get a lock fast even when the car is moving on the road already
i do leave stuff like Fring running in the backgroup for my IM and video calls, meanwhile the music player plays via Bluetooth to the car Deck or BT headphones, and using GPS to check my route for speed, traffic jam, etc.
email is constantly syncing, set to auto sync every hour
if i want to check the weather it loads up instantly

thanks a lot, you guys. But which Galaxy s are you using? Maybe there is a superior version or....I am in the UK so probably the international version?
i have the uk version, bought2 weeks ago. I noticed little lag, nothing major at all.
I decided to do the lag fix and the phone is now realllllyyyy fast with no lag
UK version from o2

yes UK unlocked version is the international version, the same one from HK, and Singapore and many other countries from the old continent.
Except Korea / Brazil / China / USA they have their own.
I'm finally getting 0 lag too now I flashed to JM6 (I got lag on every other firmware). My Compass works for the first time too. I haven't tried GPS testing yet but my hopes are up. You may want to give JM6 a try.
afaik recent firmwares (jh2 for ex) have a fixed RFS driver that doesnt lag up and fragments, whatever the real technical reason is why Rfs is slow on first generation firmwares, so the "not all get it" isn't really just "luck" stuff.
actually this regular "my phone dont do this ur just unlucky" is just some form of disinformation that is pretty much annoying.
you can check if you get 1500+ in quadrant, you don't have the issue (and IO tests go through quickly), otherwise, you do

The stock galaxy s only gets about 800 in quadrant, but that score is only bettered by the nexus running froyo. It scored better than nexus on 2.1, desire and a gamut of other phones. But I do not read about these phone owners gripping about lag or need to go above 1500 in quadrant. Why?
Frankly, I have done the lag fix and my quadrant score is now 2137. But I do not feel any significant difference than when it was only 800. In other words, I dun feel that the phone was slow before the fix.
thanks everyone, I've got to say this is the most helpful forum I've ever been to.
gonna call Three for a upgrade offer

Umm.. Don't take Quadrant for gospel. You could dump most of the OS on RAMdisk and you'll get awesome scores. We need a few test cases to ACCURATELY demonstrate the problem reliably, because quadrant only tests a few cases...
After installing the lag fix I noticed things were hanging more than normal. Un-installed it and things are fine again. Not sure if it was just something I had installed or what, but my phone still feels as 'fast' as after the fix.
yay!!!!!!!! i found my very first lag today
i had running media player over BT, GPS copilot, GPS mytracks, video Fring, and got the super mario running in the live wall paper
everything was able to funtion properly with some delay of course, with the exception of mytracks and media player
i'll try to reproduce the problem and see if i can pinpoint which of the 2 program is causing the lag (mytrack vs samsung media player)
Quadrant scores really have **** to do with everyday performance for the majority of people. You can post up 2300 in Quadrant and still experience lag during normal use. Think of it like 3DMark vs. Actual game performance on a PC.
Every phone is susceptible to the lag problem as every galaxy s uses Samsung's proprietary rfs format. Also, Crapwiz is part of the problem. The sooner Samsung and other manufacturers get their heads out of their asses and offer their products with stock android, the better. Give people the option of using Sense or Crapwiz but dont force it on them.
It speaks volumes to the quality of Samsung programmers when Launcher Pro is smoother while running on top of Crapwiz than Crapwiz by itself. The sooner the ASOP ROM is finished, the sooner the phone becomes more pleasant to use by those of us who dont need shiny things, facebook/twatter and iphone ui clones waved constantly in front of us.

Personally, i noticed slight lag.. very very slight lag or hanging when opening some apps for the first time.
However after upgrading to JM1, i haven't noticed that at all. Not saying it is solved. This has just been my experience.

We don't know thats the cause.. Someone said the reason RFS was slow is that "it doesn't buffer stuff" before.. But never seen confirmation. So anyone have actual proof its RFS?
I was on the stock firmware DJF4 and this has lots of lag. I have about 200+ apps installed and it usually takes a long time to boot up (esp Appdrawer). And after using awhile with it, even opening phone/messaging/contact lags 2-5 secs.
I upgraded to the official DJG4 yesterday and now the phone performs much better and battery life has improved (i.e. the standby time increased 30-50%) with the same apps/configuration of the old firmware.
After 36 hours with the new firmware, I daresay the lag issue is now gone. The DJG4 firmware also comes with handy task manager. Free RAM now seldom goes below 60MB. I tested by opening 20-30 apps over and over and there is still no lag. And I dont even have a auto-kill task manager running.

Still laggy even after lagfix hitting 2200 on quadrant.

Yes. Phone its some how better but it gets stock here and there. .lags make me sick. Any one knows a real fix for lag? I'm hitting 2200 plus on quadrant and all but I think that means ****. .. any one have a real solution. ...
Love for this to be like my evo running cm6. Snappy and fast. But I got to say I'm in love with galaxy. ..love the amoled. Can't ever go back to a regular screen LOL. I just want this to fly the way is suppose to man.

i have no idea, I read some things that said these lag fixes show higher numbers, but are not actually faster. that is just what I read, I have not applied any.
but do have a question kind of related so not trying to thread jack.
I am under the impression that the lag fixes make the phone use dalvic (which is faster then how ever samsung had it set up) (i obviously dont completely understand the technical details of the lag fixes). When we get 2.2, either from samsung or developers, will it be faster because 2.2 is more optimized and using jit AND will they use what ever these lag fixes implement?
in other words, 2.2 will make the phone faster and partly due to jit, but will we still have to do these fixes to make the phone use dalvic (instead of what ever samsung did) to make it as fast as it should be, or will 2.2 make that change also?
not trying to thread jack, if this needs its own thread, please let me know and I apoligize, just though i would post as its related.
Amen to that. Hit 2200 exactly just about an got ago but there are still lag issues. I believe the JIT compiler will make all the difference. So, uh, just be prepared to get a bunch of "be patient" "just wait" posts.

can anyone comment on my question? will 2.2 be more speedy just because of the great things that make 2.2 fast (jit/optimized) or will it include what ever our current lag fixes do with an ext partition/dalvic?
so say we get 2.2 and its great, would it be even better if we do the lag fixes that we are currently doing it samsung does not already implement this change?
thanks

yes 2.2 it that big of a difference. Jit realy speeds up the phone. I can't wait. I still though have no lag without a lag fix. I got a n1 with froyo and the sgs is just as quick CPU wise without it.
Be patient and just wait........lol
That's because Quadrant score is biased by the "lag fix". If my understanding of the lag fix is correct, it creates and ext2 FS on top of the existing one, acting, in a sense, like a buffer. It may help you fool the quadrant score with writes and may improve a little if you are invoking the same app multiple times, but all that at the expense of losing journaling, a very important feature in a portable device.
I've noticed the same issues -- fast quadrant, still laggy -- and so I basically disregard all mentions of "quadrant" in the forums. That said, the One Click Lag Fix is still a huge improvement over stock, but not perfect.
For my phone, I've reverted back to the METHOD #1 fix mentioned in this thread -- basically moving the /data storage into RAM. While it's not perfect (mainly due to the small app storage space), it is *very* quick and remains quick. It's also relatively easy to apply using Busybox and a Terminal Emulator.
Hope that helps.

i realize that 2.2 is a big improvement (i had it running on mytouch). what I am asking is:
regarding the lag fixes that we do now, I am wondering if that issue will be addressed when we get 2.2? or if that it will be faster because of jit and other things, and the problems that are causing lag (not using dalvic) will still need to be addressed?
I believe Samsung need to address the lag issue with a seperate firmware update to change the file system. I just hope and pray they will do it I can only imagine how fast the phone would be with a more modern file system given its performance on RFS!

Well the differences for me is my 3G speed from 200K-400K has change to 2Mbps-4Mbps, and I am happy. Thanks to the hard work of RyanZA's One Click Lag Fix.

Wow. I was not aware that the lag fix would change data speeds THAT much. can anyone else confirm results like that?

Is it laggy?

So, now that you guys have had one a day or two, have you noticed lag? Black screens? Freezes? Sluggish behavior?
I see a couple of posts in the dev section about fixing lag (with OCLF - not the best choice in my opinion, but might be all you got for now), but no mention of actually having lag. Almost feels like people just assumed it had it, and were also tempted by higher Quadrant scores.
I've got an i9000 SGS, and would like to move to Verizon, but not if I have to f*ck around with all the bugs the other variants have had.
I haven't but of course the first thing I did was put LauncherPro on it.
But its plenty fast, i'm already loving it.
I'm using TouchWiz myself. I like the slight UI changes Samsung made. The phone is very quick. No lag at all.

something weird with 2 vibrants

hello all
I found something funny
I've purchased myself a vibrant about 1 1/2 month ago
it was all nice, problems with gps as do many have, and besides it had few lags here and there..
I flashed bionix final along with upgraded rom of JAC
all is ok
still little lags here and there.
last week I purchased a vibrant for a friend...
took it to my hands to install him some apps, plus rooting the phone and etc...
his phone is with stock VJFD version (should be old by now, and that what also came on my phone)
his phone has totally no lags...
my score in quadrant for example is about 960
his score is about 880
his phone starts faster, reloads everything faster, shutsdown faster, and general feeling in the interface is that it is much faster.
is it possible by any way?
does it make sense that both phone act very differently?
my phone never felt as smooth as the newer phone does, even with updated rom+kernel
is it possible the hardware was changed along the way or something else is interfereing on my phone?
Rami
Some phones work better than others. I never had lag on the stock ROM and even though my GPS was slow to make an aquisition, it still worked.
If anything, JI6 broke my compass...which now goes haywire pointing in all sorts of directions when I am standing still

HTC 10 Underpowered?

I just got my HTC 10 yesterday and I'm noticing some lag right away, I get quite a bit of stuttering when I scroll, the phone is very hard to use while apps are updating because of lag, gaming performance isn't better than my note 5 was even though the adreno 530 is supposed to be an upgrade, my antutu score was also lower than it was supposed to be and overall the UI just doesn't feel fluid/60fps. I've tried disabling some of the sprint bloat. I've also tried wiping everything and installing a custom ROM, but I still was getting the same bad performance. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like something is up with your phone. I came from an S6 and I felt everything was snappier on the HTC. I had one issue and doing a quick firmware update seemed to fix for me. you may want to run an RUU or fastboot the firmware and see if it fixes?
No problems here, even when the device was stock it was smooth.
