I found something funny
I've purchased myself a vibrant about 1 1/2 month ago
it was all nice, problems with gps as do many have, and besides it had few lags here and there..
I flashed bionix final along with upgraded rom of JAC
all is ok
still little lags here and there.
last week I purchased a vibrant for a friend...
took it to my hands to install him some apps, plus rooting the phone and etc...
his phone is with stock VJFD version (should be old by now, and that what also came on my phone)
his phone has totally no lags...
my score in quadrant for example is about 960
his score is about 880
his phone starts faster, reloads everything faster, shutsdown faster, and general feeling in the interface is that it is much faster.
is it possible by any way?
does it make sense that both phone act very differently?
my phone never felt as smooth as the newer phone does, even with updated rom+kernel
is it possible the hardware was changed along the way or something else is interfereing on my phone?

Some phones work better than others. I never had lag on the stock ROM and even though my GPS was slow to make an aquisition, it still worked.
If anything, JI6 broke my compass...which now goes haywire pointing in all sorts of directions when I am standing still

So, the wife decided to get an Android and we bought the HTC Wildfire S. This low-end (or mid-range?) device packs a 600MHz CPU, 512MB RAM and Android 2.3.3.
When we first turned it on, I noticed opening-closing apps was so fast that I was shocked, really shocked, compared to my SGS. This was the first time I was able to actually compare two Android phones. She has been using it for like a month now, and the phone is as fast as when we bought it.
On my SGS I am on stock XXJVO + Voodoo Lagfix, nothing else. Just standard apps installed and LauncherPro (paid). However, I feel that opening and closing apps is not as fast as the Wildfire S. It takes a few seconds to change interfaces, and what bothers me more is that it takes like 2 seconds to close an app and show the homescreen (pressing the back button several times, I don't use Home much).
On the Wildfire S you can browse through the interfaces extremely fast, everything opens and closes immediately. There is absolute no lag at all, really, no matter what app you're closing.
My question is, why is the SGS feels so laggy and slow compared to a low-end phone like the Wildfire S? Is it the ROM I'm using? Is it the launcher? I've tried rebooting it, battery pull and everything, but still, its slow.
I'd love to hear your input on this. Have you guys experienced some sort of laggyness when opening-closing apps as well? Or is it just my phone?

I've compared the Desire S with and without a custom ROM to my Galaxy S, and for some reason HTC Sense is just really fast and with custom ROM was about the same as my Galaxy S. So I guess it's just HTC Sense.
Install Cyanogenmod 7. Makes the SGS far faster than the wildfire s and makes the Samsung ROMs like JVO look prehistoric.

yes its true no matter what roms ive used but comparing to my motorola nd other low end spice i think sgs shld ave been much or twice fast but boldly its not...even my nokia touch is much better than it.but still sgs rules on screen,size,feel...so i wonder when a 2ghz dual core phone comes out,wat will sgs look like....

I have found that LPP is really laggy with gingerbread update. Maybe, even before. I had been using only launcher pro for more than 4-5 months, and was surprised by the speed, when I switched to another launcher. Some operations, like adding shortcut to applications or even adding widgets would take a long time in launcher pro.
Have you tried other home launchers?
FYI, I have tried some low-end phones (HTC wildfire, Dell XCD 35 aka ZTE Blade) and some decent ones (Nexus S,HTC Desire(not much),SE Arc,SE X10,SGS 2)..
And,I find a proper SGS (custom ROM based on stock+custom kernel ) to be perform similar to a Nexus S or SE Arc.
Since the i9000 launch there was some serious lag problems with the Galaxy S, otherwise lag fixes wouldn't be popular as they were (and probably still are).
Things got better with newer firmware versions but the fact is the problem never really got entirely solved.
Currently I have stock 2.3.4 JVP and after flashing and wiping the phone was really fast. My problem is that as time goes by, and you start installing apps, music, content, etc. the performance decreases noticeably and even benchmarks such as Quadrant start getting lower scores as time passes by.
I've never seen this behaviour in other systems like iOS or WP7, and even on other Androids I believe the problem does not exist or the user doesn't notice it as much as with the SGS.

I have no idea what you are moaning about. No issues with the phone. Compared to my Xperia X10a and HTC HD2, this one is very nice indeed.

exactly my thoughts.
I like samsung - i was also considering buying the second sgs, however decided to wait for a nice ice cream at the year end.
In any case, i am disappointed about the money i spent for the sgs.
I had higher expectations - i am talking about stock roms, now jvo, as when im
buying a product, i expect the support to be done by the manufacturer and not
myself, and at my own risk..
And something offtopic: the alarm bug hasnt even been officially fixed right?!!?

i must say I totally agree with OP ! my sgs is also laggy. I am on f1 sgs2 rom. with galaxian kernel, with ext 4 lagfix and oc to 1.2 Ghz. but still it takes way to long, to open apps of any kind... and it just lags randomly all the time. have reinstalled several times according to instructions so dont tell me to do factory reset
I think the best gingerbread I have tried was jvh. app launch was the nearest to instant I have seen.
but I think the most lagfree experience must be froyo jp6 or jpy with speedmod kernel.
and to be honest since jp6 the browser has been a joke... :-(
its said that jvq browser is better, but only on odexed roms...
sadly I think that the support for the sgs is nearly over... and I have lost faith that samsung will free my sgs of lag :-(

Still way slower than my old nexus one running gingerbread. It runs rings around cm7 even. Everything is instant and faultless.

If nexus one had samoled screen and better speakers I'd be like,

my bad, that is what i am using.
It was impressive at the beginning, however not anymore.
lag is back, the alarm bug is still on, and some recent random restarts started.
I know there are fixes etc - but its worth noting that the hardware will die unutilised at least when it comes to official roms from samsung.
The lag issue is a common theme with the SGS. Not sure how long you have owned your SGS but I believe the SGS still has better hardware but the lag develops over time.
So when I first got me SGS in June last year, it was great at the start. Then the lag came in and I tried OneClick Lagfix based on xda advice. That seemed to work for a bit but then slowed down again. In November, I flashed my first custom rom (Darky 8.5), the used the Speedmod Lag fix. Same thing, good at the start, then slows down. I kept trying a few others (Darky 9.2, 10.1, DebusRom, ExtraOrdinary, Chebon) and the longest I stayed on before noticing the lag was about 1 month.
One of the steps suggested before a flashing a rom is to undo lagfix and recommended to do a wipe as the freshest install. Doing this seems to refresh the speed as it was at the start (so constant flashing seems to make things quicker).
Something also to try if you don't want to try a new rom or firmware, is to undo and redo the lagfix. Almost like defragmenting but it seems to refresh the system (imho).
I have also heard some of the latest firmwares (JVQ) have better implementations of the filesystem and have heard some people not using lagifx at all. Given you have installed lagfix, you aren't that far from installing a new firmware/rom (just back up your files obviously). I haven't been on JVQ long enough to see if this truly fixes the issue though.

This shocking,i had the wildfire,and have to say that i experienced totally different things than you.It was laggy,slow.Then i rooted the phone,and changed the sense crap to a different rom,then there was no lag.phone worked smoothly.as for my SGS,the stock thing is laggy.It gets much better only changing the kernel to Galaxian.
I gotta try that Galaxian kernel. Changing to other phone constantly inhabits my mind, to something more reliable.

Manufacturer? It's not even that simple. A friend has a stock one and it works nicely (for stock). Another friend has another stock one and lags horribly, force closes, freezes, has trouble with dropped calls. The difference? They are on different operators so the crap that they bundle together is so different that it makes or breaks the phone.

You were right. LP was lagging the phone as hell, mostly when going back to the homescreen and closing apps. I gave TouchWiz a run for a straight hour, playing games, opening and closing emails, browsing G+, Maps and several other apps, it never lagged when going back to the homescreen, which is what worries me most. I still need to try it on everyday use though.
Time to find another launcher. Any recommendations?
I know this is going to sound very much like a first world problem, but this phone is frustratingly ****. It is easily the buggiest, slowest, most laggy phone I have ever had.
I have tried just about all the LG based ROMS, only to find that each one, although not buggy, are all laggy. The lag is so bad that it gives my old S2 on Gingerbread a run for its money. At least with Samsung phones, you could get rid of the lag by using a AOSP ROM and it would still be functional.
To solve the frustrating lag issue, I have installed a CM based ROM. At first I was delighted. The lag was gone. The phone was now comparable to my super fast Nexus 5. But after a few hours, I noticed the same bugs that every other CM based ROM user has. Today, I had to restart the phone six times FFS! It is a little more stable on 777 Kernel, but the same issues still persist.
Has anyone achieved bliss with this phone? Is there any ROMS, AOSP or LG based, that are fast, (Nexus 5 fast), and bug free?
Don't get me wrong, I love devs and the work they do. Without them, my old Galaxy phones, (S1, S2, S3, S4), would have been poo. My Nexus 5 would have been boring. (Stock android is meh). I just don't understand why this phone seems to have so many issues. Help me understand why it is so hard to develop a fast and reliable ROM for this phone. I know it isn't from a lack of trying. There is heaps of support and devs working on various ROMS in the G3 threads already and all of them are very talented.
Is it hardware based lag or is there something else inherently wrong with the phone?
Thanks for reading and offering any solutions. I don't want to list the ROMS I have tried, as it will seem like I am an ungrateful twat to those devs that worked so hard. Suffice to say, I have tried all the popular CM/AOSP and LG based ROMS.

I switched to note 4 whilst g3 was good I had a better experience with my note 3. So upgraded

I don't want to switch so soon. There has to be a solution. I love the screen and size of this phone. The only other phone I would consider is the droid turbo, but it's so bloody expensive!

Compared to what? Which other android phone have you used? In isolation, this phone is barely acceptable. Then, after you use a nexus, HTC or Sony phone, this phone is comparably slow. Almost unusable.
I can't bring myself to try stock again until someone who has other phones to base their claims on can confirm it is lag free.

Have you tried the usual tricks?
1. Swap out the stock launcher for something like Nova or Apex
2. Switch your keyboard to a 3rd party keyboard
While it does suffer from the random stutter, my phone is generally very zippy and does not lag.
Done all that. On stock based ROMS, stutter and lag is unbearable. My wife, nexus 5 user, even commented on how bad it is. I'm actually embarrassed to use the phone in front of people. I know it isn't a hardware issue, because AOSP ROMS are lag free, but not bug free.
Yeah, the phone is nowhere near as quick as a Nexus. The notification bar is also **** compared to stock Lollipop. There are a few tricks I use to improve performance on a stock rom:
1) Turn off throttling/thermal daemon via the service menu.
2) I use setCPU to set the phone to use the "performance" scheduler whenever the screen is on, locking it at 2.5Ghz.
Still isn't perfect, but it helps substantially. Obviously this is in addition to changing the launcher.
It's just one of those things. As you say, CM12 just isn't stable and worryingly seems to be going backwards, getting less and less stable with each passing nightly. The camera is also completely crap on AOSP roms. Nexus devices are great but the N5 is old and the N6 is too big and expensive. The S5 lags too, and while Note 4 is supposed to be good, but I simply won't believe that Touchwiz lag is gone without seeing it with my own eyes. Even if it has gone, Touchwiz remains the ugliest skin I've ever seen. Sony phones are nice, but they aren't packaged anywhere near as tightly as the G3, which is it's biggest strength: 22mm shorter than an iPhone 6+, with the same size screen. That's impressive. HTC's are just ridiculously large for a given screen size. The 1+1 is old now, and doesn't support all LTE bands used in the UK.
There is no perfect phone. Whichever you choose, there are compromises to be made. However IMHO the G3 strikes the best compromise available today, at least once running the latest Lollipop build and with the tweaks I mentioned above applied.
Had most 2014 flagships and G3 is deff fav so far, didnt have KK as updated to LP out the box had little lag after ota but common just needed a factory reset and all good since
Just a tip you can use on any android phone, go to settings, developer options, and set all the animations to 0.5x. This drastically reduces the time the animations take, and it gives a very snappy experience. It makes a LOT of difference, trust me.
No lag whatsoever here. Im running Chupachups newest rom with rin kernel. I've previously owned htc one, lg g2, xperia z1 and this phone definitely outperforms them all.
Ive owned the Xperia Z1, HTC One M7, and tbh id rate this better than both, i would like the battery life to be better my Z1 was amazing for that buh im custom stock rom and i dont get lag, everything is as it should be.

Because LL is still unstable and buggy? And so is any rom based on it?..
Stock firmware sucks because of LG's software - it's very badly written. Almost as bad as touchwiz is. (I used SGS3, trust me on that one...)
AOSP/CM based firmwares are better, but they still suffer due do LL newness. Wait till android 5.1, things may become better.
There is also a hardware issue: unbelievably bad heat management. They used 8974ac, but had not made any cooling system. No radiators, no heat spread throughout the case, and it's facing LCD panel - which is a very bad radiator. GG WP, throttling kick in, phone starts to lag, etc etc etc.
I think there may be problem with your unit... Try to send it back to get a replacement or have it serviced.

The case is, some people can't root their phones and most of them will try searching why G3 stock rom is lagging... if I'm one of them and I happen to see this post, I would feel bad and feel stupid at the same time why I spend money buying a crappy phone.
Well anyways, try Crash Rom v2.0. It is a stock based ROM like chupachups. The animation is not as fluid as CM but I won't say that it's lagging. Compared to CM, I have not yet encountered any bugs and mostly the camera is better. If you're interested you can also downgrade the resolution to 1080p, this will enhance your g3, 3d and 2d graphics performance.
Hi im all so on lollipop 5.0 updated out of the box and its all good maybe some lag not much to notice. Still no root method yet for stock lollipop 5.0 and i dont want to downgrade to kk so il have patience and wait for new root method for me g3

Can't be an issue with the phone, as it is lag free with CM based ROMS.

Already done all that. Animations are turned off, launcher animations are set to lightning fast, CPU throttling is turned off. I've tried all the tricks in the book. Fact is, LG based software is crap, just like Samsung.
So far today, the lock-screen has only frozen on me four times, which is good.
I'm not sure if I'd rather put up with a laggy phone or a buggy phone.
My phone is currently on V20h. Apart from the occasional Home launcher crash, I've not had any lag that I notice of. The last time there was any lag was on V10i. My phone is rooted but is not running any mods.
Prior to this, I've had the Note 3 and Xperia S. Compared to the G3, I would say that the smoothness is at the very least, on par with the Note 3 running on stock.
I've seen people complaining about the G3 being laggy too. Is your phone by any chance the 2 GB RAM version?
My phone is the 2gb version, but I always have at least close to 300mb free. Sometimes I have over 1gb free. Not that it should matter though, as I have read on numerous places that the 3gb version lags too, and that both phones are very close on performance. The extra 1gb of RAM is negligible.
Just flashing Crash ROM now. I think I'm going to regret it though, as I much prefer the look of AOSP anyway.
Ah crap. Just as I flash the ROM, I read that the dev is stopping support for our device. Based on the comments, it looks like a promising ROM.
So, I brought this phone two months ago, and have been using it since. However, I find it not very fun to use as there's always frustrating amounts of lag. (Especially in the UI)
On stock 6.0, the UI is a tad bit laggy, but bearable. However, games stutter. On the other hand, running stock 7.0, the UI is horrendously laggy, while games run fine.
I've tried every custom ROM that I could, but this device still seems to be very laggy when it comes to using it, almost to the point of being completely unusable. I do not leave apps open, and clear the cache often, so I don't know what the issue is. It's too late to return it now, too.
Anything I could do to make my phone usable?
This is disappointing, as even my old Moto E ran faster than this phone.

On stock 6.0, the UI is a tad bit laggy, but bearable. However, games stutter. On the other hand, running stock 7.0, the UI is horrendously laggy, while games run fine.
I've tried every custom ROM that I could, but this device still seems to be very laggy when it comes to using it, almost to the point of being completely unusable. I do not leave apps open, and clear the cache often, so I don't know what the issue is. It's too late to return it now, too.
Anything I could do to make my phone usable?
This is disappointing, as even my old Moto E ran faster than this phone.

What defines lag in your book? Sure, there are a couple micro stutters when pulling the notification shade or switching apps, but lag is generally nonexistent. If you've come from a Pixel, S7, 6P, OP3, etc., then yeah, there's definitely a massive difference.
Also, it's definitely possible that your touchscreen may have issues as well.
Finally, I recommend the following ROMs (I've tried nearly all the ROMs here on XDA) for smoothness/battery:
- Beanstalk 7.1.2
- AOSP-CAF (discontinued but still very good)
- JX's Creampie (stock with mods)

The lag is mostly long UI stutters, but sometimes it gets really bad, especially on Lineage OS based roms. I have a feeling it's something related to single handed mode, though. I might try beanstalk soon.

I've recently installed Lineage on my brand new G4, and I honestly think the phone was better off on stock 7.0, as opposed to the custom rom. I'll agree i think the phone i just a bit stuttery/laggy at times.
I managed to make stock a lot faster by removing Greenify. Battery life seems to be better as well.
The problem does still stick around in Lineage-based roms, and I feel like One-handed mode causes this, since you can't turn it off.
EDIT: I prefer having root and all that.

Just found your post after searching for stutter in connection with one-handed mode. I only recently bought the G4 Plus as a temporary replacement for my broken Pixel and was a bit frustrated. I felt the G4 was quite stuttery, even tried a standard G5 in a store yesterday and thought "wow, that is a lot smoother.. well it just seems the G4 is a bit more stuttery. Today i compared it to my sisters G4 Plus, which was a lot smoother. You could really see the difference in scrolling and i thought it must be the digitizer or something. So before repackaging to return it to Amazon i tried a factory reset, voila, stutter gone. I tried activating one-haded mode again -> stutter. Deactivate one-handed mode -> stutter gone. So i guess that's the cause.
Disable any night-light app/setting and UI will run fine

It was (reproducible if i activate/deactivate it) actually the one-handed mode, but thanks anyways!
Well, coming from an S7E, the major issue I have with the G6 is how slow it is when opening contacts, to apps, to camera. I still have my S7E and everything opens faster on it. I know the SD 821 is quite capable, so it must be the LG UI that's making it slow.
I have a couple of questions,
1) I have the 870DS and looking at the trend I may never be able to root. So can someone who has an US version with a custom rom tell me if it has made the phone any faster?
2) And also does anyone here know at all if the 870DS version has any hopes in future for unlocking the bootloader?

Unlocking the bootloader no, unless it gets cracked which I doubt. Has not happened since the G4.
Custom roms can make the phone faster because they remove a lot of features and run stock Android but almost always the Camera app will really be bad on custom roms (unless based on stock rom).
I have a Pixel and G6. Pixel is known to be probably the smoothest Android phone to this day.
The G6 does not really lag behind it at all. The animations are smoother on the Pixel but thats about it.
I had some intial lag the first day with the device but thats about it.
If yours is lagging consider a factory reset maybe.

Do a factory reset in the settings. This helped a lot of people who have lag issues. There is an extra thread for this.
Do a backup of your apps before doing it!

Have you tried possibly a different launcher?
As well as debloating what apps you can?
Also there's always the options in developer mode that IMO truly help with ram allocation and overall speed.
Yes the LG G6 should be lag free and smooth just like the Google Pixel or the One Plus 3T as they share the same powerful processor. I think atm most non Pixel phones are stuck with just Android 7.0 where as Pixel might be on 7.1.1 since 7.1.1 might be better on performance or smoother than 7.0. Once the amazing LG G6 gets 7.1.1 in the future I guess we should see some difference in smoothness or performance. As for unlocked bootloader or root for the LG G6 or any LG flagships, always get the international version single SIM like the LG H870 which already has custom ROMs and TWRP recovery. I don't think the dual SIM will get bootloader unlocked. LG did great optimization on it's LG UX 6.0 which is fast and smooth and is better than SD 835 or Exynos 8895 equipped Galaxy S8 and it's slow, laggy TouchWiz. Imagine the upcoming LG V30 running on Android 7.1.2 on top of LG UX 6.0 with SD 835 would make it the best favorite Android phone of all time! Go to Settings/Developer Options/tick on "Force GPU Rendering" should make the beast smoother or snappier. If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store.

This doesn't really make it faster, just makes animations move faster, which personally looks worse to me.
You must be kidding, the G6 is the smoothest running phone i bought to date. I have the 870DS with around 30 apps installed.
My previous Phones were the Note 2, S5 and Note 4. This is what i call laggdroid, horrible...

Okay, so i formatted my phone and set it as a new device instead of restoring apps from the previous device. This has over all made the device a tad bit faster and i am kind of happy about it now. Also, my main issue was, the dialer/contact app would always open almost a second late behind my S7E, after the reset it became a bit faster but i was still not happy, So just tried a third party dialer app and trust me it works like a charm!!! Now the dialer app opens as quick as it does on my S7E Since that's the thing i use my phone mostly for, it was so irritating that it lagged a second or half a second behind my S7E. Thankfully now it's all fine
Also, reducing the animation speed makes it more jerky and ugly and it doesn't really speed up the device at all. Hopefully as and when we get 7.1 update, the UI may be smoother
Android 8.0 will fix all lag and battery issues I'm super sure of it its only a matter of time
I honestly think G6 is pretty smooth, this is coming from S8. There ARE times that it stutter, but it's been the LG way unfortunately. If there's one lag I could remove, it's the camera launching lag.

I believe there's a fix for camera launch lag, you just have to look for it.
Also, Fulmics rom makes this phone faster and smooth as baby's butt, so if you're rooted and would like an amazing OEM-based rom, this is it

I agree, the G6 is already smooth as it is, without root and without a custom ROM but knowing me, I went ahead to install Fulmics ROM & boy oh boy it is smooth.

Hell yeah!
Had it on my G3 and since then i don't even miss stock android roms anymore.
I also find the G6 to be a nice smooth phone. But I also have issues with a slow and laggy dialer app. I don't think it's then phone in that case, I think it's the actual app that isn't properly coded/built. Just doesn't seem that good.
I use Google contacts instead, does the job fine, but i left the stock dialer. I rarely use it, usually make calls from contacts, so the occasional time i DO use it, isn't a big deal.
