Hey, the ROM for the Palm Pre is out.
http://palm.com/ROM
http://palm.cdnetworks.net/rom/pre_p100eww/webosdoctorp100ewwsprint.jar (source)
If someone gets the ROM, wouldn't it be kinda cool trying to get it on the HTC devices?
Since I have no skills in programming or porting, I want to say that I'm interested in the thought. So who else is with me?
http://forums.precentral.net/web-os-development/184378-ok-rom-comes-30.html
Seems interesting. i cannot help but i would be interested in seeing this ported too. The only issue is that it is limited to devices with a keyboard as webOS does not have a software keyboard.
yes, but since they have "cracked" the OS, some have managed to build a "hello world" app. So touch keyboard are probably not that hard for the developers on xda

i tried to boot it on my touch dual... placed all nessecary files in /lib put the files onto a microSD, changed the haret default.txt, and booted it... it worked fine, without GUI tho. it ran fsck, started alsa up and ended in runlevel 2 at a login prompt. kind of weird... might have got the wrong rootfs by mistake, im gonna check that.
edit: indeed it was at the beginning of the boot sequence ( i created the nessecary /dev nodes using mknod ) i keep getting an error from the lib ld.so, that libgoodabort cannot be loaded. it stops after that point....
webOS seems to be a very nice fingerfriendly OS...
How much is actually the chance that webOS could be able to port to WM devices? Is webOS based on *nix like Android?
hmm, is webos going to be the new android for our devices? we may never know...

dude, how did you extract the content from the .jar? Extracted nova-cust-image-castle.rootfs.tar.gz from webOS.tar only?
EDIT: yes.. that's it, I'll try to run it like a virtual machine, but I don't think it will be easy!

think so! although its not open source (but the kernel is), it shouldnt be too hard to get it to work.... maybe only on omap devices though...
and yep, its *nix... java based as well apparently
i would loove to see webos come to our devices
Since WM can already multitask, wouldnt it be easier for some developers here to make a Windows mobile version of Tealos? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-adhk9BDnw
Make it a little more stable & with much better icons.
We wouldnt get the universal search that webos have or the notifications area at the bottom but we would still have multitasking plus everything else WM has that WebOs lacks
this will be a treat whenever it happens...but multiple resolution and everything might take some time...goodluck guys
sounds wicked!
I would love to see this happin... as don't think I could leave tha WM OS having other OS's and UI's just just more braging power for us! lol plus No expendable memory on pre meen I probly won't buy one... don't know why they do that! smartphone should come with two SD card slots minimum! one mainly for programs and second for swopable file storage (needed to drop a post so I can find this thread again)
wow
Epic grammar skills.
Hum. This could be interesting to test this OS on a htc touch hd (palm pre is not sold in france...).
Does somebody or a team tries to really do it?

LMAO! yea sorry lotsa misstypes.. i do use xda 99% of tha time on my touch-vogue.. and mainly use tha standerd windows keyboard wit keys tha size of my stylus tip lol but my txt'n grammer is way more legable now, beleave me..(or jus google me)..lol
SORRY OFF TOPIC!!!!
WEB OS ON WM WOULD BE THA SH#T! PLEASE GET THIS WORKING I MEEN DAMN!!!!
Yea guys this would be stella!!! more bragging rights for us on why were better then the cryphone lol.... but in general the palm pre OS does like bad ass an I wouldnt mind running it/messing with it on my htc fuze!!! hope this gets done!
Awesome! I hope people get this working... It would be awesome to get it working on my Samsung i730, but I'm pretty sure the phone doesn't have much of a userbase anymore....
i'm kind of a junkie when it comes to phones, and i was contemplating getting a palm pre, but the hardware keyboard is terrible, so i wouldn't want it... but i really like the os. its just that the phone itself is crap.
here's a question though.. i read that the palm pre can do data, and phone at the same time... if it were at all possible to run the palm os rom on a cdma sprint tp, would we be able to actually use evdo rev a features, such as that?
Palm WebOS is opensource

Since June 18, 2009 Palm was make Palm WebOS to OpenSource software http://pdnblog.palm.com/2009/06/palms-open-source-portal-is-now-available/
There are Palm WebOS opensource versions landed at: http://opensource.palm.com
Go to http://opensource.palm.com/packages.html to download Palm WebOS by versions, there are 1.0.1-4 versions are available to download. The latest is: http://opensource.palm.com/1.0.4/index.html
so, is it enough to start work out to port Palm WebOS to another one?
I have a BlueAngel device and wanted to port the nice OS to my device, anyone want to do it?

just to do it
As far as I know there is no way to dual boot the two.

Erm, so you're going to emulate Windows mobile to emulate ubuntu. Doesn't sound like it will... work decently.
There isn't a way to get Windows Mobile on android; if you wanted windows mobile, you shouldn't of bought a android phone.

I was replying to someone else. Not sure why you quoted me on that one. I have no intention of ever running WinMo again, it even says so in my sig.
However if someone else wants to emulate WinMo on the hero I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to try. A lot of times people do things 'just to see if they'll work'....so lose the attitude.
yeah there isn't really a reason i want to just to see if there is a way and to see how it runs and such
how about throwing windows 98 up on that ***** and breaking out a nice bluetooth mouse and keyboard

From what I know, w7 will stripe data across internal storage and sdcard, so you would need another sdcard for android

Hi, I have no idea about programming and absolutely clueless about Android devolopement. I have been using x1 before the x10, and there somebody made Android 2.1 which starts off from the SD card. Even if we cannt get the phone rooted can do something like what they have done??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=622
If I sound like an idiot could the mods delete this thread please.
I believe that the X1 is WM6.5 ?
I don't think that Android and WM Devices have the same methods to root a phone...

I understood that he thinks that it may be possible to put 2.1 on the X10 with the X1 SD card method. And I answered that those 2 phones ave different OS, so for me it's not possible... that's all...
Ask jerpelea. He is a master chef and I saw him on this forum recently. I'm gonna try his x1 eclair port tonight but I'm willing to bet its great (just like everything he's made that I've used)
I thought we might be able RUN Android 2.1 from SD card just like we did in X1. I know that would not be a ROM and probably we would waste RAM too, but we might have the 2.1 anyway. In X1 they had lot of problems with drivers and everything (stuffs I don't understand ) but this is already an ANdroid phone, so drivers shouldn't be the problem (also because we already have the X10 ROM). Moreover we don't even need to map any keyboard, like we had to do in X1, cuz it has no keyboard
Theres no haret on linux..though as root you could have your system or data partition on the sdcard with no problems, just modifying the initrd..
And run windows 95 emulated too

Who is Haret??
just kidding, so I guess the answer is no not possible.
(now is the time for someone to say WAIT THERE MIGHT BE A WAY).
Ok so nobody said "wait a minute ..... we can do this...". Fine I will say it myself.
Wait a minute I think this could be done. See if we put DOSbox (win 3.1) as an app then start the haret from SD. And then we can get even Android 2.2.
So who knows how to do it??

DosBox to run 2.2 is a BAD idea sorry...
You can maybe boot 2.2 but the performance on dosbox is realy crappy.
Another ting, will the camera work, sound, gps, 3G, mic? +++
And the last thing i think dosbox is only read-only.
Try it and give us feedback. Maybe we can use it GL
Just my 2 cent:
Dosbox would only be needed to START booting linux, so the linux image then shoud run natively. A performance problem should not exist.
On my X1 haret.exe was only used to pass over control to the booting process. afterwards WiMo 6.5 was not running in background, the full ram was handed over to Android/Linux.
So the question should be, if dosbox would prevent haret.exe from initiating the booting process (as the adresses needed are "shielded") ....
Bax
Makes alot of sense

To me this all seems to make alot of sense. Dosbox.apk on SD card, Run haret, Boot Android 2.X. No altering of scripts shoould be needed for native android phones correct?
So why would this not work? Should be safe to try atleast and also alot easier than rooting the phone at this point. Am I right?

Not to screw your hopes, but dosbox emulates msdos (x86) and therefore nothing compiled for arm is going to work (not winmo or haret)

Short answer, no there is not. Long answer, they have come surprisingly far in porting Android to the HD2 but there is still a lot of work to be done. The developers here are flat out amazing for making it as far as they have in as short a time as they have but as of right now no it's not a "pure" ROM if by pure you mean replaces WinMo. It currently only runs off of your SDcard and shuts down the Windows Kernel to boot the Linux Kernel... But like I said, it really seems like they're not far off from what you're inquiring about which I can only assume is a NAND version.

It has been stated several times now that it is NOT EMULATED. Haret shuts down the Windows Kernel and starts up the Linux kernel. There is no trace of Windows running. It's done this way for several reasons - No touching the internal memory of the phone whilst in beta to prevent bricking, easier to apply rapid updates and the main reason is that it's still needed to initialise hardware.
As for the screen color, that's a physical hardware limitation. The LCD Panel is a 65k Panel. You can't change that.

Hi, it is not a simulator or an emulator.
However, it is started from windows currently whilst development continues.
Once development is complete I assume it will be available to boot from the phones internal rom (nand).

Seconded, I've been Googling for a definitive answer for several days now, coming up with all sorts of conflicting information (such as the app at: androidforhd2.tk -- is that app just a hoax? Watching it in Process Explorer, it seems to do pretty much nothing but animate a progress bar using VB...).
This thread is by far the most recent/straightforward answer I could've hoped for.
hey everyone
This has been a long time coming. Thanks to the unshakable versatility of the HTC HD2 (what other phone runs Windows Mobile, Android, MeeGo, Windows 95, and Ubuntu?) we finally have a working port of Windows Phone 7. As you will see, the port works quite well: everything works

Indeed It does! Still prefer Android nonetheless, but will surely keep playing around with this for a day or so
I wonder if it will be possible to have an Android-WP7 dualboot option. I still think that WP7 is nowhere near as well developed as Android on the HD2, but I would love to try it when all the bugs and niggles have been sorted out.
Good news!! But where can download the wp7 system?

Sorry but what has this got to do with Android OS?
This should be in the HD2 ROM or General forum.
That is one ugly OS !!! I played with it for 1/2 day trying to force me to like it. No way.
I rather have Win 6.5.
W7 is really ugly, these large buttons on a white or black background, no menus, no choices, just few options.
I don't understand where's the hype
see the first post, anything is in the zip..
wowow!!
really great!!
It's REAL . I'm using it just right now it is very very fast very stable.
actually it is the fastest OS I've ever use.
It is even faster than android NAND more than like 10X.
I really recommend you to give it a shot.
I agree the OS itself needs a lot of improvement to be an interesting. but it has another advantages such as microsoft office.
Its definitely fast and stable, but the drawbacks are huge.
My first issue is that it wont connect to hidden wireless networks so it will eat up my data allowance as soon as I do anything.
Went back to Android.
